I’ve been eating soup lots of places recently and they have the best. Even better it’s fairly priced. This place may be my neighborhood mvp. The service is friendly, they play good music, and the food is great. Highly recommend.
When for Saturday brunch. Had chicken and waffles. I enjoyed it. The breading was mustard but the mustard flavor was very mild so it was ok. The chicken was moist and tender. The bananas and berries were plenty. The waffle was light but had good density with a course texture that absorbed syrup well. Wait staff was great, super friendly and prompt. Place was cute but small and a little cramped. Patons were all friendly and curious so cramped was not a problem.
Came to Zaca Cafe after a long travel day and it was so good!! The staff were so nice and attentive, especially our waitress, Vanessa. We also got to meet the owner who was so kind. Will definitely be coming again whenever I’m back in New York and will recommend to anyone who will listen!!!
I'm visiting from Philly (I lived here for 15 yrs but scooted south recently) and am staying in Bed Stuy and came in here for brunch this morning. The food is outrageously good actually, and really big portions. The waitress was one of those people who is just a walking good vibes dispenser, like super super nice. It's like a neighborhood cafe type place but was consistently busy in the 90 min or so I was in there, but not hectic. It was a great way to spend a morning.
All of our dishes were delicious! My Shrimp & Grits was so flavorful and filling. The Kale Caesar Salad was fresh with the perfect ratio of parm cheese, crotons and dressing. The veggie burger was great — the curry mayo was a great touch. Service was wonderful. So happy to discover this place!
Really nicely decorated. If you identify as a black woman, you will feel celebrated seeing all of the vibrant art on their cushions, paintings and other decorative pieces. Service was great, the server was so attentive the owner stepped out to let me know where the best spot was for my office work. I ordered a latte w/ almond milk, the Zaca Platter and their pancakes. The grits in the Zaca platter was too good; well seasoned and the salsa verde is something I’m going to add to my scrambled eggs going forward. The pancakes were fluffy and crispy on the edges. Such a great spot and the prices are so reasonable for the quality of food you enjoy.
Okay the food was very tasty. I ordered pancakes, fried chicken breast and cheese grits. Everything was wonderful including this spicy sauce served on the side of the chicken. I washed it down with herbal mint tea with some honey and oatmilk. The place was cozy and inviting. It felt like old Bedstuy in the 90's. I loved all the decor and I also had laptop to work and they have outlets at every table. Unfortunately it was freezing in there. And I'm always hot. Like I drink everything on ice daily. I ordered the tea because of the weather. I almost put my coat back on.
I really liked the atmosphere. It is cozy and active. They seem to do good business. I only got a Latte and a croissant. The latte was a little lukewarm but had a good foam and I enjoyed it. I am not sure if the croissants are made in house, but it was served cold and it tasted a little underbaked. They were very busy, so I didn't want to be *that person*, demanding hot food. The actual flavor of the croissant was good, if a little doughey. My friend ordered grits, turkey bacon and eggs, and it looked very good. My friend was pleased with it as well. I was also glad I wasn't *that person* because a delivery guy came barging in cursing up a storm because he was told to wait outside for his order. Granted, it was cold outside, but the space is small and why didn't he have a coat and hat on? He looked like he stepped out of his car to pick up the order and got mad he had to wait. Anyway, the owner and staff handled his foolishness very well. The prices were fair and their menu looked good, overall. Also, even though they were very busy, they didn't try and rush us from our table, and I greatly appreciate that. I will go check them out again for sure.
I loved my time at Zaca. I wasn’t sure if the grits would be good, but they were exceptionally delicious! Yum 😋🥹! Shoutout to the chef!!! I’m not necessarily the biggest fan of tomato jam & verde, so I could’ve done without it, but everything else + my sides and hot cider, chefs kiss! The servers were kind and friendly. Polite as well. I can tell that it’s a community gem + fav based on the various walks of life who came in and out. I’ll definitely be back and will bring loved ones. (I’m only giving 4/5 stars, because all of the bottles to serve guest were filled with sink/tap water. 🥴🥴🥴🥴 I’d rather pay for glass bottled water over tap. NYC’s tap water is *not* drinkable anymore and hasn’t been for sometime. I wish cafes & restaurants would stop serving this. 😭 Or at least put a filter onto their faucets. I truly understand having a business in NYC is difficult and costly and being a business owner overall, but we must find suitable ways to service customers without causing any potential health concerns. Unfortunately, only tap water was available & led to me ordering the hot cider. Still a great choice. Just ditch the tap 😭)
We sat outside, nothing to call home about. A nice server, ordered with ease and food came out in a good amount of time. Temperature of food wasn’t hot. Great value for prices. Enjoyed everything except the Brussels. The flavor was odd in a not good way, my immediate instinct was to spit it out. There’s really no other way to describe nasty. They were overcooked and mushy as well. Steak panini was on point with flavor. My favorite was the strawberry lemonade.
First and foremost, the food here is GREAT! Incredibly tasty and honestly the only grits I’ve ever had in NYC that were even remotely reminiscent of good southern grits. The matcha drink was great but the coffee was really watery and stale. Also, the service is a little wonky. We came in on a Saturday brunch service and were told that we’d need to wait for a table to open up. That was totally fine and we waited until we were finally sat, then our server asked our order. No less than two minutes later, before we received waters or anything, the server came back and said “hey folks, we have some reservations so we will need the table back as soon as possible. I hope you’ve had a great time!” When we said, “oh, we just ordered,” she was bewildered and had totally forgotten that she had just taken our order. Another few minutes later she came back and asked what our order was again. All in all, it was an incredibly strange experience and I’d be down to try it again, just be aware that you’ll have an adventure during busy brunch services!
Every time I place an order for pickup with their app, my food is ready more than 15 minutes after the provided pickup time. Today for instance, I ordered three paninis at 1:06pm and received an email confirmation indicating that my order would be ready by 1:21pm. I showed up at 1:25pm and they had not started to work on my order. They eventually handed me my food at 1:47pm, which is not acceptable. It is probably the 3rd or 4th time I mentioned that timing issue and no change has been made to the app. Don’t bother to show up before calling to find out whether your food is ready.
Before anything. They should mention having other ingredients in things that don’t normally have them. My wife has a severe allergy to nuts and they use Nutella in the hot chocolate. When I tasted hers and we told the waitress/bartender. She didn’t evenapologize. She said oh “I’ll take that. But all chocolate has some nuts in it.” Didn’t make any sense to say that as opposed to just “I’m sorry”. The other waitress was very apologetic and made sure to even clean the steam wand when making her a new drink to prevent cross contamination, Then took the drinks off the tab. The food was okay. Pancakes were a bit over cooked but still good. My wife’s French toast was very hard toward one end and My coffee was decent. It was also cold in there. But the music great and vibe was friendly. Personally, we will not go back. But anyone else may have a great experience. I just have a long list of places before I suggest this establishment.
Great food and nice Restaraunt . I came here 1/2/26 and had the worst service but had great service just 2 days prior. The waitress spent a lot of time conversing with another table and there was a delay in greeting and taking our order. No worries , in the name of good customer service to that one table I suppose , so I let it go . She forgot simple things like spoons when serving tea. And forgot one of the teas completely and had to be reminded. Still no big deal. Then I noticed a table who came in AFTER we Placed our order got their food before us. Being optimistic I said maybe ours is coming right behind . A few mins later , still no food for us. I then mentioned to another waitress ( since ours was completely acting like we weren’t there) that I noticed our food is taking a while and other customers were served some of the same items we ordered (Grits, waffles) before us… she checked and confirmed that the other waitress who took our order did not put it in at all. Luckily I said something which I am usually shy about doing because we would still would be there waiting !This waitress in question NEVER came back to check on us , apologize or say anything. She completely IGNORED us the whole time that we were now waiting for our food to be prepared for real this time and even began being talkative and friendly with a table Right beside us who she also knew. She walked passed us over 7 times avoiding contact. Noticing our EMPTY table 40 mins after ordering and still never saying anything . A completely different waitress was the one who faced us and comped our $3 teas and explained that she told the cooks to put out orders in first but somehow two other tables still received food while we were waiting an additional 20+ mins 😒 . I will not return knowing the inconsistency in service, lack of basic decency , and how a human error( which can be forgiven of course) is handled in an unprofessional manner. Something is clearly wrong . I wish I could give -1 stars for service . *update , there was a further discount applied so they 3 stars total out of 5 instead of 2
This was my first time coming here. I saw it on a YouTube series Sunday stroll. I had the breakfast combo which was okay. I also had the cheese grits and it was a bit salty for me. Overall the food, place and service was okay! I had to ask for untensils. Next time I come here I'll try the lunch.
The atmosphere is great but the service is lacking. Waiting forever for our food, sitting at the table with no water or utensils while the waitress was showing another waitress something on her phone. The scallion waffles came with wilted blueberries and bananas on top but little scallions. When I asked the waitress about it, she said I see the scallions, look and proceeded to point her finger into my plate. GROSS! I had to ask her, maam please get your finger out of my plate. I will not be returning, it was not worth it for a mediocre meal. There are so many options in Bklyn, I wish this cafe would do better.
