I’ve been here many times and the food is always delicious! Friendly service to beat.
I grew up in Carmel and always loved going to the dinner for breakfast, lunch and even late night. Food always comes out fast and fresh. It's a dinner. It's always open. You can't go wrong and you can get whatever you're in the mood for.
My husband & I have been coming here for years. The service and food is very good and great value for the money. What a lot of people aren't aware of is that they have their own baker who bakes on the premises. Their desserts are delicious & reasonably priced. A few days ago I ordered a cake for my husband for his birthday and ordered the oreo cookie chocolate layered cake. The cake was made on time and I was given a call to let me know it was ready. We had a party for his birthday and the cake was a huge success! My husband and everyone else came back for seconds, including myself. I highly recommend this diner for their food and service. Next time you want to buy a cake for a special occassion, you might want to try them....you'll enjoy it.
This is one of the best diners in the area the food was excellent the service was excellent and they accommodated a nice section for 12 people when we went there we have been there before when we lived in this area and the food was great then just like now this is your Diner if you want to go to a diner
Service was friendly and quick. Food was delivered hot out of the kitchen. Would eat there again were I in the neighborhood. The atmosphere is what you would find in a classic diner of this type.
Went for dinner here for the first time and enjoyed our meal. I don't suggest you order drinks here but it is a diner so I'm not surprised. Waitresses are really nice!
Great food, great staff, clean and always have great service. I love this place
Great service and food as it always was when I was a teen. Consistency is key :)
The food is always fresh and fast! Great place to go for a delicious and affordable meal. Staff is always so kind and accommodating to the customers!
Very courteous and attentive wait staff. Best steak and eggs I ever had. Clean place, with very nice soft music. A very nice dining experience.
Very kind people and great customer service, my eggs were runny and they made me new eggs for free instantly without and question. Very quick service and good food!
A fantastic place to eat with a large selection of really great food. The staff is friendly very accommodating and very pleasant. I would highly recommend a visit there.
Staff always super friendly and competent. The food is GOOD! Never takes too long. And the place is always clean. Prices are also reasonable.
my friend took me here for lunch when I was visiting..... I was confused at first... when we pulled into the parking lot.. I saw the sign Carmel diner and resturant.. I didn't know if it was a diner or resturant.. if I was underdressed.... or over dressed... But the food ....service was outstanding... I hope the next time I'm visiting my friend brings me here again
Nice variety of foods. Very pleasant staff that worked as a team. Fun to see the photos and wall art that pay homage to local history.
Great food, amazing customer service with a robust menu! My go to for those family friendly meals when cooking is not an option.
I need to tell you first and foremost that they have a waitress there who worked for years there and left and they were somehow extremely lucky to get her to come back because she is Amazing !!!!!! This woman did not stop for a minute ..she knew exactly what to do at all times. She ran the entire counter and 4-5 rows more past it with complete ease and friendliness and kept everyone happy...I swear I was never more impressed !!!! The food??? If you're hungry and want to be served correctly this is the place to go !!!
One of the best diners in Putnam County. Look at the overall average reviews which are beyond 4 stars. No matter what you do with a few people, you cannot please them. The owners, the staff and the food are great.
I been coming to Carmel diner for 5years now and I never have to complain about anything the service is great and friendly. The food is always at my satisfaction. Great staff. I would let everyone no to come here for your desires of food.
Very busy dinner, decent service and great tasting food.
This is an updated review, after being a regular to this place for a long while now. Their menu is pretty wide, and the food is always consistently good. My favorites are their paninis, I love the monte cristo. The turkey burger was very moist and flavorful as well, which was a nice surprise for a turkey burger. The staff are great, it's always nice to chat with the owner Tony when my brother and I are in. I frequent this place all the time, and highly recommend you do too.
Excellent food service and atmosphere. Love this place and the amazing staff. Like being at home with family and friends.
Great place to go to eat. The food was very good, but the STAFF WAS EXCEPTIONAL!!! It was crowded, but they were above and beyond!!!
Had the Cajun burger. Was pleasantly surprised. It seemed like a hand made patty not a prepackaged hockey puck. If I'm ever in the area I would go again.
My vegetable wrap meal was delicious! My two friends who ordered the same meal were also very pleased with it. The service staff was very personable and helpful.
Excellent food and service. Large menu lots of delicious food to choose from.
The staff was knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations. Their suggestions were spot on.
Everything is so delicious. Sometimes the meals look like they can be served in a $$$$ restaurant. Especially the seafood specials..They wait staff are so friendly. Especially Ashey. She is amazing with the customers..cant do enough, always willing to do more...Thank you Carmel Diner for feeding me very often..
We went there for the 1st time the other day with 4 people. It was a very nice clean place inside but we chose to get take out . We each ordered a different item and each meal that we got was excellent, well prepared and tasty. The portions were so big that we each got another meal the next day and it tasted just as good! We also ordered their chocolate mousse cake for dessert and it was so incredibly light that it could've floated away! Delicious! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. This was one of the best diners I've been to in a long time .
Service and food were great. Stopped by after 5 hours of driving to meet up with family. Food came out quickly and was delicious. I stopped by two days later to thank the staff for their patience and effort in helping me locate my bag which I lost the night I was there at a different location. If you stop by definitely try one of their cookies. They're humongous and so so good!
Good old world dinner! Friendly staff!
Stopped at this diner first time after new doctor in Mahopac. The best crabmeat stuffed mushrooms over portabella mushrooms in my life !!! Friend had a perfect large Reuben the best and I had a western egg sandwich and a delicious biscotti treat for the way home! Loved the excellent wait staff and other employees, very clean diner and enjoyed all the happy fish in the tank ! We will return 💗
Amazing food!!! After hiking the nearby fire tower the food was well deserved! Highly recommend going. It is a very laid back type of place where you will not be rushed!! You can enjoy a lovely peaceful meal with family and friends here. They give you a great sized amount of food for the price! The desserts are also supper cute! They had a cake with a bunny on top. I can't wait to go back again!!
Definitely what I would call a hidden gem. Food was excellent only rivaled by the service. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.
Nice little place. Good food and large servings. We wished we had ordered an entree or two fewer and left room for the delicious looking desserts! The staff was friendly and helpful, but forgot to offer our drinks with lunch specials. When we ordered coffee to go they provided that free as our set drinks.
The food was great, my friend had chicken cacciatore and I had peanut butter stuffed French toast and all was delicious. We also had wonderful vanilla cappachinos. Thanks, we will be back!!!
This place is very nostalgic for me. The staff of amazingly friendly attentive and fast. The food was excellent . I've been here twice with my wife and we will definitely come again..
Another soon to be hidden gem of the Hudson Valley. The Carmel Diner is located on RT 52 at the intersection of Fair Street in the village of Carmel NY. It is a family owned diner , and the owner's daughter waited on us. She was very welcoming and friendly. The food was really good and as always, generous in portion! The chicken soup was a meal in itself. The broiled salmon was done perfectly, as was the Pastrami panini I ordered.
A long time favorite! Yes, it had a dip for a while, but food is great, service as always, excellent.
The food is gourmet. I ordered the seafood bisque which was the best I've ever had anywhere. For an Entree I had the seafood sampler which was superb. I highly recommend both. The carmel diner gives you Manhattan quality and tasting food at diner prices. I will definitely be back when I am in the area.
Classic diner. Great food and experience.
The menu offers a wonderful variety of options for all tastes. The presentation was elegant and appetizing.
The flavors blended beautifully in every dish. It was a true culinary delight
The restaurant offers a perfect blend of traditional and contemporary dishes. The staff made us feel like valued guests.
I had a chef salad with ranch dressing, and my wife had the Belgian waffle. My chef salad was more than enough for one person and was extremely fresh. The deli meats looked as if they had been freshly sliced and rolled. There was more than enough meats in the salad to make a sandwich with. As you can see from the photo my wife had already finished 1/4 of her waffle by the time I took the photo of my chef salad. She said the waffle was extremely tasteful and filing. She literally destroyed it in no time. The waiter kept the coffee flowing and very pleasant and professional.
Just had the best turkey and mashed potatoes. Made me think of going to my Grandmothers when I was school age. Beyond delicious.
Thank you for a great meal and great service. Is this new ownership? Seems so different in a good way. All the best of luck. Mike
Food was freshly prepared by chef with fresh ingredients. I ordered a vegetarian omelet with Swiss cheese and home fries. Also, the coffee was excellent. I'll probably come back again! Great service!
Went in for a sandwich, and I decided on a gyro. I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of all the ingredients. Service was spot on. I thought I’d have some room for desert but was full from my order. My server was very attentive. Great job.
This diner delivers a delicious meal. Their gyro and souvalki combo was prepared well and plentiful. The Chicken was moist and taziki sauce nice and tangy. The grilled salmon was cooked to optimal temperature and Brussel sprouts were sautéed and tender. Our meals came with soup or salad. The seafood bisque had plenty of shrimp. If you have an opportunity to be in Carmel, this diner will be happy to serve you a delicious meal. The attention and service by wait staff is above average! Thank you!
The Carmel Diner was easy to find (we were coming from Danbury) and there was ample parking. Our server Jimmy was friendly, attentive, and patient with our special requests. The four of us were very happy with our food. My Carmel Salad was delicious, and my sister's Taco Salad with steak was just great. The wait was a bit longer than expected, but the meal was worth it. Give it a try!
I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was here. It tasted better than just your typical diner. Pancakes were large, buttery and soft, same goes for the french toast. County fried chicken was delicious with the sausage gravy and chicken and waffle was great with a perfectly fried piece of boneless chicken breast paired with a buttery waffle. Would come back.
Nice sized place and the food was delicious, staff was very friendly and attentive. Will go back
Convenient location. Food was typical. Prices were a little high but nowadays what food isn't. Everything else was in order. Thanks
We had 15 people And were accommodated quickly and with great service. A very good menu all of which was good. I had the Ruben and the corner beef was excellent. Try this comfortable place if you get a chance
This is another of my super family friendly home spots. So CD is not the best spot for breakfast IMHO..but they are for pretty much everything else! MUST haves include outstanding homemade Matzoball soup. (This is the one to beat..nothing in Westchester or Putnam is close) Truly yummy bakery sweets and their hot chocolate is also rather special. Nice people..good service. They have a rather large fish tank right in front which is cool.
It was a nice brunch for Mother's day. The wait was reasonable, considering the importance of the day. The staff and servers were great. Only four stars cause Nannie ordered blueberry waffles and was disappointed. I think she expected that other waffle/pancake house's ton-o-blueberres waffles. You know with the blueberry syrup too. But it's the service and staff that make me come back again to the Carmel Dinner.
A very laid back town and diner. Went there on a Saturday for brunch. We tried the hungry man and the Mexican omelette. The Mexican omellete was super tasty, loved every bit of it. Staff is very friendly, always around to refill your coffee. A great place to relax and enjoy your coffee, breakfast and conversations. Definitely going back!
The food was good, the service was very good, our waitress was friendly fast and accurate. The prices are very reasonable, but the interior could use an update. Overall we were very happy and will go again
Great food good service, I go there all the time. The corned beef hash isnt cooked enough sometimes though, burgers are great, fries are great. And when the corned beef hash is cooked right it's fantastic. Definitely something I would recommend.
I had a great experience here. Lots of different options to choose from at the Carmel Diner. I ordered a bowl of soup and for just 45 cents I got a huge bread basket! The nachos are amazing as well. They come with cheese, chili, shredded lettuce, red onions, tomatoes, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, and jalapenos. Their cheesecake is fantastic too. You should consider coming here with families, for their portions on appetizers would feed all your relatives, for example one plate of nachos feeds about 4-5 people. It's truly a great diner.
Staff are great, the food overall is good but there are always those dishes that either come out to greesy or overcooked.. I enjoy it there. Cakes and pies!
I love the walnut chicken salad. It is very filling and big. They fry the chicken breaded with the walnuts and it’s so tasty and delicious. My husband likes their breakfast. It’s usually hit or miss here with what you get but it’s always very reasonably priced. I also like the chicken and waffles and their chicken soup is very good. The decor could use some Updating but it’s an old place I am glad it’s still around after all these years.
The food was good the service was good can't say much better that's what you're looking for in a diner
This is my go to diner in the nabe. They are consistently very good with occasional brushes of excellence. Hey, it's a diner! My lady and I go here for breakfast when the mood urges and we are already going out for the day. The coffee is very good and the staff come by for frequent refills. Good burger and the fries also very good. In you are in the area you can't go wrong. At least I haven't. And I am not the easiest of reviewers. :)
Generally good food for a diner. Wait staff could be a little more friendly. Prices are reasonable. Usually no wait for seating except at busiest times like Sunday brunch. Parking can be an uphill climb for senior patrons. Seating can be a little cramped at the tables with staff and patrons moving about. Clean relaxing atmosphere. I've been coming here for 20+ years. I would recommend you visit The Carmel Diner.
Classic hometown feeling Diner in the middle of the Carmel Hamlet with great food, service & comfy booths. Ample parking on the side and rear of the Diner which is located less than 2 minutes walk to scenic Lake Gleneida.
Well stocked fish tank, could have used some live plants. Food and service very good.
Food was decent and service was quick and super nice
Had the hearty seafood bisque which was delicious and had plenty of chunky seafood. Had the stuffed peppers with Greek potatoes - shocked at how perfectly prepared it was. Also the New Orleans chicken salad, tea and warm apple pie which smelled as scrumptious as it tasted. To top it off, our server was soooooooo attentive. What a pleasure. Didn’t have to ask for anything twice, brought the food out in a timely manner and always with such a warm smile.
Place was very clean, and service was good. I concluded that prices for breakfast were reasonable compare to others I visited. One or two more waitress will make the waiting time more pleasant.
This Diner is good. The service is good. Nothing really jumps out at me when I eat here. I do like the generous portions, etc. but really to me it's just another diner. Chicken parm is good, was not a fan of the penne alla vodka.
It seemed they were understaffed. There was one hostess and one waitress. The chowder tasted more of chicken stock than clams, my Reuben tasted like that corned beef had gone bad, my sister in law ordered a sirloin steak and got chopped sirloin instead. It also took a very long time for the food to come out as I assume the kitchen was also understaffed.
Straight-up old school, no frills diner, and that's a good thing. Food and service are about what you expect: nothing to cheer about but also not much to complain about. It's a solid diner. You can always get a decent meal here. I really wish I could give it four stars… but I can't. It doesn't excel at anything specific and your experience definitely depends on what time you get there to eat and who is serving you. When your toast is covered in butter that hasn’t melted, you know that toast was buttered cold. Little things like that keeps this place at three stars for me. Also, I avoid this place when it’s super-busy as wait times seem much longer than they should be compared to non-busy days. If you're not in a rush and don't mind waiting a while for your food, you probably have more patience than I do, so sit tight. But when I see a full parking lot… I go somewhere else. Note: Updated 8/29/22 based on owner feedback.
It's a diner nothing else. $60 breakfast for 2
Very busy spot my husband and I went there for dinner and had two or hot turkey sandwiches The turkey tasted like it sat in water The coleslaw had no taste very disappointed with the meal
Went on Valentine's day. It wasn't too busy, it took an hour to bring our food out (soup, kids mac and cheese, burger and peanutbutter jelly sandwich). And it happened after we made a complain. Food wasn't good at all today. Wont go over there again any time soon
Usually a great place. Mat have been having an off day but we waited about 45 minutes for breakfast and when it finally came. It was not hot but pancakes and French toast were burnt on one side (that's side was turned down). Wait staff are friendly and attentive. Just probably an off day. Gave me a $3 discount
Our waitress never even offered us a 2nd cup of coffee. We asked our waitress for more coffee and Nevr received any. We asked again from the guy behind the counter on the other side of the restaurant and he gave us some received just b4 we were leaving. We had to look around for 15 minutes to get someone's attention to give us our check. On a Sunday early afternoon they weren't all that busy so no excuse for poor service. We only ordered eggs and french toast. The food was fine, the service was not.
something not right with the meat - had a hamburger , the meat smelled . ice tea? god knows what it was - sent it back they use to have good food…seems the place looks nicer- but the food? much to be desired . hadn’t been there in about a year . so this was very disappointing-
I ordered a fruit bowl,, thinking that it would be a refreshing dish of fresh fruit.. it was not given an accurate description on the menu. It was actually a dish of some fresh cut melon,, and canned pineapple with red overly sweet jello and cottage cheese. .🤢
Came in from out of state to visit my parents it was close and we love diner food so decided on Carmel diner. It was dingy but small town so I looked past that. Waiter was kind but when my moms salad came the chicken was not fully cooked through, we HATE sending food back lol but undone chicken is not something you can look past. We showed the waiter and apologized for any inconvenience and asked for it to be sent back, my mom was grossed out so decided on a waffle instead. He said it wasn’t an issue and took it back. When it was time to go my dad paid the bill and left a tip as we were leaving he realized they charged for the untouched undercooked chicken salad so he went in and spoke to the manager/owner (the older women with glasses) she refused to refund the cost of the salad and was not nice about it at all (which I expected here in NY ) my dad came out upset feeling totally shocked with how he was treated when asked about the nasty raw chicken salad… If you can look past raw chicken and like being treated less than, this your place to dine! *****Edit to respond she did not say her stomach was bothering her and that’s why she “changed” her mind she said if she ate the chicken her stomach would not be okay! A misunderstanding is one thing, being charged for a meal she didn’t touch; fine whatever, however the treatment my stepfather received was DISGUSTING just like the RAW yes RAW chicken. Kindness would have solved this the day of service but kindness was not something that was offered by you.
Maybe I was unlucky and just ordered the wrong item, but it's deterred me from wanting to try anything else here again. I have unironcally had tv dinners of better quality (and about $17 cheaper). Ordered the meatloaf with corn and mashed potatoes, everything tasted very mid but I highly recommend NOT getting the corn. I don't know HOW you mess up corn to a point where it's.. chewy??
It was the worst service we have ever received. The waitress was so confused, and asked over and over the same questions. She brought 1 thing out at a time, for each item that went with each meal, with long time spans in between. She got 2 of the 3 orders completely wrong. 1 order was editable although wrong, I asked for a salad platter with balsamic dressing, and I got a sandwich. The other order had the wrong bread, which the person does not like. We were not offered any kind of credit. That food went in the garbage. Even after the food came out, we still didn't have utensils, so I had to flag someone down to get them. We were offered another meal with the correct bread ,but at this point, being there so long with a toddler, we simply had to leave. Would NEVER go back. Waste of time and money and oh so agrravating! We still left a 20% tip, even though we didn't get a goodbye or thank you when given the bill.
An hour wait and the old man begged a 14 and complained when I tipped 5 bucks for a 69dollar check
The only reason i give 1 star its bcz this diner as well as others around has lost its charm its tradition the fun of having to go at any hour afterhours to dine at any one of these establishments after an outing or a movie night, after the pandemic they started closing early at midnight totally understandable; but now 4yrs later they closing even earlier 9pm? Seriously? Totally sucks!! Bring back the tradition of the good old days where at 2am the diner was the place2go!…. So Sad the only thing available after 12 are the limited fast food places nearby…
Been coming to the Carmel diner for almost a year, it all depends who's working. Two weeks ago we brought our grandchildren for dinner and from the time we walked in, to the time we finished, it was as I call a management disaster. We walked in at 6:10pm and finally walked out at 8:15pm. An hour and a half to get our food and of course they forgot my food and had to wait. And to add to this mess, the place may have had only ten to twelve tables. The place is usually slow with the kitchen staff preparing the food. But when the bosses son is running this place, you would think that he would worry about the kitchen instead of watching his servers and how to run the front. And not he first time with this guy, Just doesn't get it.
Review edit after second chance: it took almost 50 mins to receive food and we never recieved water or coffee refills even after asking twice. The servers were however very kind and the atmosphere was wonderful. The food however leaves much to be desired. Both times i ate here i was very disappointed and when i ordered thick cut bacon with my eggs i recieved what appeared to be pan fried spam.
