By far my favorite Japanese in NYC. Food and Service🙌🏾
The simply prepared sushi here is outstanding. Totally minimalistic and delicious, nothing in the dishes that doesn't need to be
More expensive than your average sushi place, but great food and impeccable service.
Amazing value for money, sitting at the counter talking to the chef was the best!
Amazing service, food and ambiance. A wonderful sushi place and a great place to eat.
Super tasty and fresh. Excellent Japanese experience. The stuff was so kind.
Excellent sushi, good busy vibe on a Tuesday night. Will be back
Great, traditional sushi. Please sit at the counter and let chef Sakai rock your boat
The best Japanese food in town and the best staff.Don't forget to try the Black Cod.
Excellent food and service, Traditional high quality Sushi & Sashimi.
Increíble experience for the taste buds really clean and simple. And wonderful service.
Excellent Quality Fish, friendly staff, delicious Sake,
Excellent sushi, good value of order the lunch sets
High quality sushi and a nice selection of sakes
One of the best sushi places I know in New York.
Very nice ambiance, great service and deliciously food
High quality, fresh sushi and great experience! I always have something new at Sushi Ann and never disappointed!
Love coming here. The staff is very friendly and service is great. The food is delicious and just the right potion for me.
Great sushi. Sit at the bar and let the chef create for you. If you are lucky they may give you some candied burdock root for desert
Amazing sushi and sashimi, great service. Definitely recommend over other options in the area I've visited.
Went here for dinner, Sushi was Excellent! Extremely Pleasant staff and overall a fantastic experience. 10/10 Would recommend.
The food was fresh and delicious and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Not overly crowded. Very attentive to customers needs. Great food, good feeling and very accommodating.
The staff at Sushi Ann were very warm and inviting, atmosphere relaxing and sushi very fresh. In fact, it was some of the best sushi we have had!
The sushi sashimi omakase is so fine and delicious. A marvellous crescendo of different, perfectly balanced tastes
Great food. Sashimi and sushi was extremely fresh and the wait staff were perfectly attentive. Thanks SushiAnn for a great lunch
Superb service and delectable selection. A true gem. Some of the best sushi I’ve had and definitely the best service.
The food, atmosphere and service is clean, minimal, Japanese. Very Expensive (minimum 200 pp ) but if you care about price this place not for you.
Had a wonderful dinner here the other night. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. I ordered the Sushi Chef special, the waitress warned me about some not so usual pieces that came with that, mostly being the sea urchin. I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm sure if you have a taste for that it would be great... me, not so much. All the rest of the sushi was fresh and delicious. My date and I had a wonderful dinner and plan on returning.
Impeccable service with a smile (masked of course 😀). The sushi was great and well executed. Be warned if going Omakase, the chef will take you out to the deep end fast! So if you are put off by strong flavors and erm....interesting textures, you may want to order for yourself. Definitely worth a visit!
It's expensive but if you want a high-end sushi experience for a special occasion you won't go wrong at Sushi Ann. I'm a big fan of making "lists" of all the places I eat and as far as taste goes, Sushi Ann belongs in the top tier with Daigo Sushi (San Francisco) and Sushi Kashiba (Seattle) The service was awesome, the Omakase fish selections had a nice variety and the fish was perfectly paired together with each dish.
We did the Omakase experience and it was outstanding. The price is reasonable for the fresh fish and phenomenal service. Every recommendation was perfect. We will be back!
Without a doubt one of Midtown's best. I've dined here for dinner and lunch several times over the years, and they never disappoint. Beautiful nigiri presented with the elegant simplicity Japanese cuisine this good deserves.
Great experience, sushi was good, didn’t like the baby squid even though that was kinda special seasonal dish. Staff was super nice and friendly, really good services, and the kiddo liked this place and only loving ikura. We also asked for miso soup and rice( Sushi rice) even though that was not on the menu.
Authentic sushi from Japan, prepared by traditional Japanese chefs. Dine at the sushi bar for full experience. It is busy at lunch (they will accept pre-orders if you want faster service) and dinner is a more intimate experience for couples and families. Offers corporate delivery to midtown as well for convenience.
The quality of the fish was excellent. Our picky nine year old ate the akami and asked for seconds. A five-star endorsement from him for sure! The wait staff was very friendly as wel.
Wonderful experience. There is a choice to sit at a table or the bar (next to the sushi chefs), for individuals still learning, table is good and for the aces i think the bar should be appealing.
Very good sushi at the bar. The price was super reasonable and low. Super yummy and would try again. I also met the owner and he’s really nice.
The best sashimi ever! (I spent three weeks in Japan.) We set at the bar, the cook prepared and selected first different sashimi, then sushi and finally a few rolls. He very kindly explained us many things.
Chef Warare is a beast! Worth every penny for his Omakase. If you want traditional sushi as good as what you can get in Japan, make sure to sit at his sushi bar. I’ve been to many of the best sushi Omakase bars in NYC and Japan. He set the standard for me in the US. It’s pricey but in comparison to some of the trendier sushi spots like Nakazawa or 15 East you’ll find the cost to be fair.
Everything, from the service, the decor and the food, reflects an understated brilliance and pride in delivering the best experience in every aspect of a dining there. Worth pointing out that they would offer an approx 3% discount if you paid cash Sushi Ann is also one of the few sushi restaurants in NY offering both a la carte sushi and omakase
The attention to detail here is what was most impressive here. Nitrogen taps for the draft beer. Perfectly sized nigiri, not too big, not too small. Great quality fish. Accommodated my request for a spicy scallop hand roll that wasn't on the menu. Great service. Quality ingredients. Worth your time
Amazing sushi, great service, and authentic atmosphere!
Very good authentic sushi at a reasonable price point. Perfect for a business lunch
I asked my friend for a restaurant recommendation with this criteria: extremely high quality sushi, has an a la carte option (omakase can be too much food for some people in our party), and not stuffy. Sushi Ann really delivered on this! Their sushi was perfect—very traditional, delicious, ridiculously fantastic sushi. The staff was so polite, welcoming, and friendly. Very impressed and exactly what I was looking for!
Some of the best sushi in manhattan beautifully served in a lovely setting. Consistent quality over the dozen years that we’ve been dining there.
Service was lovely and attentive. I was very pleased with the sushi selections. I really enjoyed the quiet, immaculate atmosphere.
Sushi Ann is one of my favorite higher end Japanese restaurants in New York City. I have dined here on two occasions both times during lunch and had fantastic experiences each visit. While the restaurant has a very minimalist decor on the inside, the sushi and service are both absolutely fantastic.
Wow wow! This place is wonderful! The service is exceptional and clearly catering to both a business but also Japanese business man audience. Every table was taken by 12:30 and the sushi bar was jumping. We ordered the sushi set which came with tuna, salmon, hamachi and several other fish all that were super fresh. There was also unagi on the plate. There were a number of sake’s which we did partake. I was being hosted and so I was not able to table many photos. But I will be back and will add more. Here is my desert, it was delicious.
Very sophisticated and traditional Japanese restaurant. The interior is well-decorated, a little dim, and quiet. The atmosphere is suitable for a date, meetings, or a lunch with friends. Servers were friendly, attentive, and prompt. I had omakase and the fish was freshhh. It was uni season when I visited, and they had several kinds on hand imported directly from Japan. The octopus was also extremely delicious. They also have a nice selection of wine and drinks! I sat by the sushi bar and the chef was very knowledgeable and friendly. While the price is on the higher end, the quality and service lives up to it. Overall, everything from the people to the food is wonderful. Will definitely come back!
Sushi rolls 6 x 6 pcs + 2 beers for 80 dollar
Amazing quality at super good price, fresh, delicious sushi and sashimi. Very nice staff.
Everything was delicious - miso soup, avocado salad, and the sushi. Wait staff was attentive. Definitely recommend.
I've been here many times and it's always delicious. A little crowded, but fair pricing and friendly, attentive service.
The Derek Jeter of sushi places, a little past its prime but still capable of coming up with an outstanding performance when you need it -- as long as you sit at the bar.
Traditional sushi place . Their portion of the sushi is perfect. Their lunch special sushi is great .
Very good service! Also very professional ...they are user to customize food out of the card
If you like sushi, come to Sushi Ann for reliable, delicious, fresh-tasting food. The rolls are always right on the mark, and the people who work there are very friendly.
Portions minuscule, but the quality is very good. Flavors you never tasted before, just wish there was a bit more. Still, very good.
Wonderful sushi and sashimi. Very delicate and subtle. I just wish the restaurant had a better decor and atmosphere. It doesn't match the quality of the food
Freshest sushi I’ve had. Did not read minimum order 50. However to their credit did not charge me minimum.
Sitting at the bar is worth the premium price. Get the Omakase and be schooled on everything you’re eating by the amazing chefs. Make sure you visit the Bathroom.
As long as you're prepared to pay the price, sit at the sushi bar and let one of the chefs do their thing for you. You will not regret it. Very spartan decor and atmosphere, but the quality of the fish and the attentiveness and expertise of the sushi chefs makes this a worthwhile experience.
Reasonably good but not sure I’d call it a $$ place. Haven’t had sushi out in a while but I’ve had bigger portions in the past. It was all good but clearly oriented toward expense account clientele.
This was a take out meal. The total wait was 10 minutes from order to walking out the door. The sushi was good, not remarkable. The staff was friendly. The cost was fair. Would be a good place in rotation.
2 adult 4 kids (include one baby) total amt aprox $800 for a la carte. Sushi and Sashimi is ok. It should be real Japanese Sushi quality I felt a little bit expensive compare with quality but if we consider about location, it might be reasonable price. Good for tourist who don't care price but be tired stake and bread.
Good sushi overall, but whats up with $50 per person min at the bar?... it is empty anyway.
Great sushi. Two reasons for 3 stars instead of 5. 1. Always being rushed by staff. Every time I'm here it's the same experience. 2. Why am I paying separately for soup or salad?
My husand and I used to love this place but were badly disappointed at our last visit in august 2023. First let me say that the quality and freshness of the food is still at it's best, it's impecable. Greatest comliments to chef Noriyuki Takahashi. The price and the service were seriously questionable. We had booked seats at the counter to have Omakase. Upon arriving at the restaurant - which was half empty - we decided to have some hot food after all and asked if we could move to a table. The host was clearly very unhappy about that stating "You make me lose business". Are you serious? How unpolite can you be? We overlooked his remark in favor of chef Takahashi's wonderful food and sat down - and waited then for 15 minutes to be served. The service was unengaging and sloppy. Since we have been to Sushi Ann last time prices have increased by almost double. We got presented with a bill of 700 $ for 4, 5 beers, 4 sakes, 2 menus and 3 extra orders of sushi. We are absolutely willing to pay a certain amount for a fantastic meal, but this felt seriously overpriced. We would have overlooked this circumstance if it weren't for the impertinent remark of the host at the beginnig of the evening, which quite frankly ruined the experiene a bit for us. I guess what makes you lose business it not your lack of seats at the counter but your lack of manners. This was clearly not the japanese approach to hospitality for which Sushi Ann was once known for.
This is a highly overpriced sushi omakase that doesn't stand out amongst others. Basic fish is exotic only by name. Its not worth the price.
Maybe I had too high expectations. I was not impressed with the quality of sushi. It’s just mediocre. It’s overrated perhaps because of its good location, nice interior design or just convenience by the business people nearby. I won’t go back again.
Decent experience but not the best. Out of all omakase probably the one I liked the least. You seat on table and the omakase experience is kind of ruined. You are charged 180 pp for 3 plates of sushi where maybe 3/4 bites are worth it.
Had sushi, which was good, but the pieces of fish were very, very small.
The food is good, the price was surprising for how simple the food was, but the sushi was tasty. I wasn't sure what I was getting when I ordered since the menu lacks an explanation of the plate you get. The service was fantastic. Fast, courteous and very grateful to serve. I say 3 stars because the sushi, although fresh, was simplistic and bland for the price. There is a $50 minimum food purchase if you want to sit at the bar, but that won't be difficult if you get an app and a dish. There's no minimum for sitting at a table though.
Went there for lunch. For the price it charged for sushi, the quality and quantity were unimpressive.
"F" this place. When I walked in the maitre d actually said "our average dinner is $xx.xx" are you sure you want to eat hear?" After that I figured I have to see how good this place is. It wasn't. Very plain, incredibly overpriced sushi served to pretender self-absorbed out-of-town businessmen who think they're cool by emptying their entire wallets for basic sushi in a stark and sterile environment. DON'T GO HERE.
5 stars for the service 4 stars for the ambient But the food is overpriced. For the sushi omakase which cost $125, the quality is very average and the sushi is too tiny.
Overpriced, under served. My $38 entree left me so hungry, I visited a street vendor on the way home. Very limited selection of sushi, rolls, and and almost no cooked food for a companion who might not be into sushi.
I showed up at 12:10pm on a Wednesday, 90% of the tables were empty, and El (the host) was not too courteous and refused to seat me even at the sushi bar claiming “all these seats are reserved” which is hard to believe. As no one was coming in. I’ve been coming here for years. Disappointed.
Do not recommend for sushi omakase experience. We paid $330 per person and left hungry. Compared to other sushiya, extremely small portion. Very disappointed
Please BE CAREFUL what you order because they might serve more expensive menu and charge it. I ordered Sushi Omakase in Dinner counter, but they served Sushi & Sashimi Omakase which is more expensive than what we ordered. We did not check the order because of OMAKASE, but the final price was way higher than we were supposed to pay because they served different food for us. They said we should have mentioned if we had different menu from what we ordered. I agreed we should also have checked each food but STRONGLY RECOMMEND that all of customers keep in mind that every food is correctly served according to your order.
A cautionary tale... The people are friendly, and the sushi and sushi chef we great. One acid test for me is the uni, the sea urchin. If it's bad, it's horrible, and I it's good, I find it fantastic. Sushi Ann had uni from three places, CA, ME, and JP. I had the CA, and it was good, and then I asked for a recommendation, and the chef said JP, and it was fantastic. So the sushi/sashimi is good, but then there was the bill, which didn't line up with what the menu said. The menu said a serving of sushi/sashimi is two pieces, but for three of my ala cart items I was double charged. When I inquired, the waitress said the menu prices were suggestions. I am fine with being charge a little extra for the best items, however, we're talking about $30 extra. Maybe I don't understand sushi house protocol, so I give you the good and bad.
Just had lunch here. And It was so over priced over charge,. For the amount of food they serviced for the Lunch Specail. Fish is fair. Would never go back unless you just want to throw money away. Shame on them. Rip off
Not a great selection and pricey. I went for lunch and we were rushed to order and get out, although it was busy at all. Our waitress was not very nice.
I did not dine at Sushi Ann, so my review is not on the caliber of cuisine which I'm sure is amazing. However, I booked a reservation for my boss the same day, and later found out (no more than 1 hour after I reserved) that his guest had covid and could not attend dinner. I called the restaurant to see if they could waive the 25$ per person fee for cancelling, since I only held the time for no more than hour. The person who answered was very rude and told me "I should have been sure before booking" and to reach out to the manager, which I did cordially. No response. In this day and age of covid and flu etc, would they have preferred we kept the reservation and got everyone sick? It is ridiculous to hold people to reservations when they are sick especially ones that were not on the books for more than an hour. My boss dines in the city frequently we will not be giving our business to Sushi Ann in the future.
Unfortunately I have dietary restrictions out of my control. The sushi chef was rude and not accommodating at all. We left and went to the Lobster Club and they were amazing! Everyone is so friendly and they were happy to make a special dish for me.
Quality is mid. Server didn’t explain the types of sushi. Lunch crowd is a busy midtown vibe.
The worst omakase sashimi I have ever had in my life. The toro tasted like cheap tuna. I would never come back here.
Food: great, but over-priced. Service... average. I was forced to pay tip. Funny behavior 🤬 Atmosphere: boring. Personally, I won't go again to this place
My husband booked this reservation for us for Valentine's Day and we had to cancel it a few days beforehand due to emergency health issues. We then received a charge of $200 and the restaurant is refusing to refund it because of the 72-hour cancellation policy, which was only specified on the confirmation email and not on the initial Resy page. When trying to dispute this issue with the restaurant, my husband was not met with understanding or help even though our reservation was rebooked by another party. I'm really disappointed in the service and lack of accommodation and I just want to forewarn other guests in case they run into this issue as well. They are not only profiting from the people who booked our cancelled slot, but also from us who did not get to dine with them.
Very pricey for the quality of fish. $172 for fifteen pieces was not worth it when most was sea bass and red snappers. Empty restaurant is a big red flag
Not recommended, Disappointing, more than overpriced. Lack of good communication and transparency by not providing a decent description of the different Omasake experiences and price schedule. Surprise bill of $260 per person for Omasake and water. The excessive price was not appropriate to the amount of food served, the culinary experience or the ambiance of the restaurant. We left stunned, hungry and wondering the many things we would have been able to do in NYC with that money. My favorite restaurant was Manhatta, a 60th floor impecable restaurant. I could have gone to Manhatta 3 times for the price of 1 night at boring Sushi Ann.
