Wren, Elena, and another tall gentleman (I forgot his name) were AMAZING. The epitome of hospitality.
Whole team is wonderful but Crystal is exceptional, such a joyful presence and adds a lot to the experience :)
Let me start by saying this review is to speak about the FANTASTIC experience I had with the night manager on 12/30/2025: I placed an order through UberEats and of course the app didn’t have it where you could pick a bread bowl for the soup I wanted- so I called Panera and spoke with the night Manager (who is probably the nicest person I’ve ever spoken to), she immediately set aside the last bread bowl for me and told me to place my order and she would make sure I got my bread bowl. I also wanted a couple sides of their amazing balsamic vinaigrette, so she said she’d add those in your my order as well, since there was no way to do that on the app. Before we hung up she told me that she had everything set aside for me and would tell her line staff to be on the look out for my order. She was the most accommodating, genuinely kind, thoughtful person I’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I can’t thank her enough for her kindness and how she went above and beyond to make sure I was able to satisfy my cravings, lol!!
"Wow what is this Karen doing wasting her time posting a review about a single corporate chain in Chapel Hill?" they asked. I could stress the quality and care the obviously competent team put into the facility. You could reference attached images and see the care put into some of the most flawless pastries that look practically generated. What really gives this place something special and worth the time to go out of your way to drop in for is the imacculate coffee shop vibes. Genius Loci, "the essence of a place". Walking into the quant shop from any of the doors you feel like the search is over: you're walking into exactly what you came for, whatever that may be. The depth of the building surprises you with every little nook to grind and unblock that project you've been stuck on. You might find yourself reading in a dim corner but with enhanced focus and concentration. Sipping a perfectly crafted macha latte on the pleasant patio and watching the adorable birds might bring you to an epiphany to a problem or long train of thought. Or perhaps you'll get a simple drip coffee and a bagel on your office commute thinking nothing of the unremarkable establishment but hours later you realize you can't get the scent of fresh bread & hot coffee of your head, or the way the glowing light shone brightly through the windows. I mean it when I say you can hunt all over the country but you won't find many corporate places with this feel.
We recently ordered catering from the Panera Bread on Franklin Street for the UNC School of Pharmacy, and I truly cannot say enough good things about our experience, especially because of Alana. From the very beginning, Alana was incredibly kind, patient, and helpful. I spoke with her on multiple consecutive days while organizing a large catering order (over 100 bagels plus cookies and cream cheese), and she always had an answer ready for every single question we had. She made the entire process smooth and stress-free, which is not easy when coordinating a large school event. Even though she is not the catering manager, she stepped up and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. When we arrived for pickup, everything was fresh, organized, and beautifully prepared. The bagels were sliced and ready to go, cream cheeses were packed perfectly, and they provided plates and utensils... truly everything we needed. The petite chocolate chip cookies were a huge favorite among our class. You could tell the entire team put care into the order. Alana’s professionalism, responsiveness, and genuine kindness made this catering experience exceptional. She went above and beyond both on the phone and in person when we came in to pay and pick everything up. Because of her, we will 100% be ordering from this Panera location again. Thank you to Alana and the whole Franklin Street Panera team for making our event such a success!
Service is always friendly here and service is quick. Today on my visit Alana went out of her way to give me superb service🥰
Good price/quality relation. I like this place, the people working there are really nice and you feel it when you are there. Bread soups are excellent. Coffee is good and monthly subscriptions are a real deal. I recommend this place with no doubt. The thing to improve is the cleanliness. It seems that as the place has a lot of movement of people, it's common to see tables not very clean.
My you pick 2 was delicious French onion soup and 1/2 barbecue chicken sandwich! We also tried toasted mac & cheese sandwich. Our first time trying this sandwich, It was good needed a little salt. We placed an order on the kiosk. No one ever came to the front counter to see if we wanted to buy anything desserts or bread. There weren't any cups for cold drinks so we had to use coffee cups
Panera has some delicious and healthy options, but I always feel like I'm paying just a little more than I should for what I get. Most Panera dining rooms are elaborate with armchairs and fireplaces. This one is much more simple and plain. They do have a covered patio which is a nice feature. I found the customer service to be fine.
Looked forward to the experience this morning but a tad disappointed. I got a bacon and egg breakfast sandwich on everything bagel. For $6+ I could have used more than one or two broken pieces of soggy bacon. The other downer is that the dining area seemed like an overnight resting spot for patrons needing to study and nap. I would not dine in. However, the bright side was the very friendly staff...not everyone is made for the breakfast shift.
It was busy this night but they were really quick with getting everything together. However the food wasn't really what we paid for. It was mostly bread and there was a little chicken and avacado which as the main ingredients of the "Chipotle chicken avacado melt" there wasnt much. Usually it's good which is why it gets 3 stars but this night was honestly dissapointing.
Every time I go to Panera I always order a small caramel latte and always get the cup half empty. They put too much whip cream to make it look like it’s full but once the whip cream melts you can see that you only get half the cup. I am paying for a cup of latte not a cup of whip cream. Very disappointing as this happens every single time!!
As a longtime Panera customer, I am very sad to say this may be my last visit to this Panera in particular and maybe all Paneras in general. It is so obvious that corners are being cut everywhere: staffing; amenities such as eating utensils, plastic glasses, napkins!, bags; and, worst of all, freshness of the food. Why would bakery be stale early in the morning? Why would focaccia not even look like focaccia?
Worst dine in experience of all time . I came here to eat not knowing what to expect because I’m not from here . It took 5+ minutes for us to even get someone up to the register to take our order , so we just went and ordered through the quick order . The food came out lukewarm , everything tasted unoriginal to what it tasted like at any other location , etc. We then went outside to find our vehicle towed because the person driving our vehicle went to a resteraunt right around the corner and they claimed they could do it despite the rest of the vehicle containing Panera bread customers . The guy working there told us it’s all through the towing service and that they didn’t call it , yet most tow service people I’ve talked to have told me Panera had to authorize it . Long story short , my family also did not digest the food well. I don’t know what went wrong up from the vehicle irregularities to the food delivery , etc . But for my reccomendation , take your buisness elsewhere
THEY WILL TOW YOU!!! Panera is bitter that no one wants their crappy dry food and will tow you if you use their parking lot to go off property. The next door Chipotle has way less parking and way more customers. So, when I went to pick up a to go order the other day, I parked at Panera. I was gone “FOREVER” (maybe 5 minutes), but when I came back my car was hooked up to the tow. The guy pointed to a sign THAT WAS BLOCKED BY ANOTHER CAR. I couldnt even see it from my parking space!!! There was one more sign but it was hung over a parking space in a way that made it seem like it only applied to that one space. Yet, I still had to pay $200 in cash to get my car back. That tow guy told me that Panera has cameras and if you step ONE foot off property they WILL tow you. I was telling my friend about this when she told me that she had also gotten towed earlier that week at Panera. She had to pay $460 in cash. Please please please do NOT support Panera and their predatory towing scheme!!!
Managers are horrible. I saw a lady on night shift hitting a weed pen and she was very disrespectful. Another manager named Joey I believe was also very unprofessional and just seemed like he hated working there. I definitely don’t recommend this location at all.
This Panera has contracted with a predatory towing company, Barnes Towing, to seize customer cars, tow them and exhort them for $360 cash or $450 by credit card, minutes after they park in the Panera lot. I have contacted Panera Corporate and they said it is out of their juridiction and yet this Panera has an arrangement with a towing company that snatches cars within minutes of parking. I parked to patronize both Panera and its neighbor and never even got to go in Panera because my car was towed within 5 minutes of being there. I had to take a Lyft for $34 and then pay $360 to get my car and belongings back (including my medication). This was theft and ransom!! Horrible owner and towing company. I will never patronize Panera again.
Ordered catering from there for three people. Food had to have been made hours before the actual delivery because the melted cheese was hard again and cold. The breads were stale. The cold salad was lukewarm and had wilted greens. One of the orders was wrong. UPDATE: Lowering to 1 star. Had catering again for 20+ people. Both the steak & cheese and chicken & ranch sandwiches had barely any "middle" part.
Went inside order my food to go watched four other customers that ordered after me that was eating in, get their order, filled and sit down before mine. Then, when I looked in the bag for my order, the soup cup was turned up on its side because it was put on top of the other food, and the bread was not wrapped. It was just tossed in the bag.. I gave the bread back to him and asked them to wrap it. They said they don’t and so I told them to throw it away.. I didn’t see paying as much as you have to pay to eat there to receive dirty food. When I told the front counter, they shrugged their shoulders and acted as if they would go back and talk to the people that prepared the food, but no one offered to correct the problem or make it right.
To be frank, I don’t think the main revenue the owner gets from this location is even from food sales so it hardly deserves to be labeled a restaurant. The main revenue source is from a predatory towing scheme which takes advantage of having the much more popular Chipotle across the street that doesn’t have enough street parking. I can verify that they have a full time employee whose only job is to watch the lot for towing opportunities. That way they’re able to quickly get a tow truck over within 5 minutes of you parking and secure the tow fee. The math is quite simple, they get less than 100 actual customers a day generously spending 10$ each netting ~1000$ total. They through having a dedicated lot watcher tow at least 5 cars a day for a minimum of 1500$ in profit. The only way this scheme remains profitable to them is being in a college town where every year a new bunch of students come in unaware of their scheme. Sure they’ve carefully studied the law on towing to make their actions are legal but predatory is predatory so I feel obligated to state so in a review.
