I ordered Lacomida every Tuesday while my husband is bowling. I either order a tostada or their special taco Tuesday. I love Lacomida. I used to go to Lacomida every day when I was in school in paradise California. I will always support this business. And I love their food. I don’t care what anybody says. Thank you, Lacomida.

I have to give this place a five because I grew up eating La Comida. I always get the same thing... Bean tostada with Thousand Island dressing. I dream about their food. Excellent chips and salsa!!!

Great place to get a meal for a reasonable price

Another place that my family always ate at anytime we came into town to visit our grandparents for almost 40yrs. There's new owners and we are so happy they have kept the same foods. Always amazing!!!!

I love La Comida! I have been going to this restaurant for the past 40 years. It is the perfect blending of American and Mexican food. All of the flavors are top-notch! I especially love the chicken tostada, with extra Ranch. A bowl of guacamole for the Fantastic chips, and the cheese enchilada meal for later! I've been visiting La Comida for years (25+). It's always good. What I enjoy most about it is the consistency of the dishes served. I usually get the 2 item lunch with a chicken burrito. I have them add lettuce, tomato and enchilada sauce to it. Always yummy😊. The service is prompt and courteous and the staff on the floor keep the place tidy during the busy lunch hours. Oh and...the salsa there is some of the best in town.

The food is very good. It is mostly self service. They take your order and call your name. You get your drink and find a table. Very relaxed atmosphere. No frills, but the food is good.

They have been a family favorite since I was a child. It extends all the way to when my mother was a child. They've been around for many years. Cheap food,delicious, nice friendly atmosphere and their chips and salsa are to die for. If you stop in to pick up some food make sure you pick up some chips and salsa, you will not regret it.

I've been eating at La Comida since I was a child,(which is a REALLY long time!!). I loved it then, I love it now. 😀 I've introduced many friends and family members to La Comida who then have become just as addicted to their food and their chips and salsa as I am. We moved away for several years, however, every visit we had to at least get a bucket of chips and a gallon of salsa to take home with us, usually we had to have dinner there as well. Love, love, love them!!!

People always ask why I like La Comida. And it's actually a long answer that very simple. First, I have known the family now for over 20 years. I started working there in 1998 and worked there for a couple years. Growing up in Chico, La Comida was definitely a staple in every family's menu. Back when I was growing up, going out to dinner was more of a treat than an expectation. And I remember going and standing in line and always hoping we would get the tables near the back because I thought those were the coolest. So once I got a job there I was ecstatic. Back then the old man was still alive and my junior was running the floor like a madman and he was amazing at it. And every single person in this town, multi-generational groups of people, all know Jr very well. I'm sure you could hear the stories of how many people he has watched grow up and have kids of their own and even kids of Their Own. So today when I went in there during this quarantine to pick up my to-go order with my mask on and saw an empty a part of me was sad. But again, a familiar face. Is I walk in the manager, bill, is still there. La Comida is and always will be family-oriented. Their food is amazing. Especially for the price you pay. They are giving you good food at a great affordable price. These days when you cannot get a meal for one on a food delivery service for less than $20, I went to La Comida and I got a meal for 3 for $21.32 out the door. And in this world today, that's amazing in my book. I love La Comida, I love the entire family that owns it, and if you haven't eaten there you should. Always five star restaurant in my

La Comida is still one of my favorite home town places to eat. The place hasn't changed much at all since I was a kid. The menue is simple and great. I recommend this place to anyone who hasn't been there to check it out. The salsa and chips are some of the best in town.

absolutely loved it. our local la comidas closed 15 years ago and I miss it. so visiting the last one was such a treat. the restaurant was clean and the staff was fantastic. I had the super burrito and it was just as good as always. we drove 14hrs to watch the seahawks play the 49ers. and eat at la comidas. really the restaurant was full of great young people and friendly.

I’m so happy that this still exists. Even though it’s in another town I feel the same nostalgic way that I did as a child whenever I come here. The chairs, the cups, the salsa same as it ever was… 100 stars la comida please come back to my town.

This place deserves a high rating. But because the food is amazing, but because the food is an amazing value and the restaurant is a local go to for supper basic, cheap eats. I get the bean tostada meal every time, and it's mostly lettuce. 😂 But the house dressing slaps, and the free chips and salsa are great, and I get two meals out of it for $12.

Having grown up in Chico, CA, where La Comida is located, ate here whenever I could. Moved out of Chico for 17 years and came back for a visit, and the food is just the same. Very good. It's still a mom and pop restaurant, but different owners who kept everything original.

My 4th grade girlfriend's grandfather, Mike Pavis Sr., started this business in 1969. He created the proprietary spice blends that they still use to this day. The reins were passed to his son, Mike Pavis Jr., who continued to run it very well until he sold this Chico icon in 2024. The new owners seem to be following tradition, as the menu has not changed, nor has the quality of the food. They still have all of your favorites at a decent price. I hope to be able to enjoy their food for years to come.

We have been going to La Comida for the last 35+ years. While the ownership has changed, the food still tastes the same. And you have to love their ranch dressing! Such a tradition for our family to eat there.

When you bring up La Comida as a place to eat, people either love it or make a face like you just slapped a kitten. But you know what? It doesn't deserve any of the hate it gets. I've been eating here for 30 years, and I enjoy my Super Burrito at 45 just as much as I enjoyed it as a teenager. You'll hear, "Its not real/authentic Mexican food..." Yeah, no shit. No one is claiming it is. If you want something like that, there's 100 other places in Chico to eat. You eat here because you want La Comida. The staff is always friendly. The restaurant looks the same as it did decades ago, and that's not a bad thing. At this point it long ago surpassed being a Chico tradition, one my parents took me to, and one I enjoy taking my kids to.

This was a favorite and first Mexican place for my husband as a child. He still loves the fresh salsa and his Tostada was HUGE! My chicken taco wasn't very good only in that the chicken was just cooked and I tasted no seasoning. The beef on his tostada was great though so next time I'll get beef.

Simple and easy and reasonably priced Mexican food. Look you're not going to get straight out of Mexico City tacos but this place has been a staple for a while and serves quick, cheap, well tasting Mexican fare. Always my go-to.

It's LaCa. Prices are great, portions are good. Is it the highest quality Mexican food? No. But it's also not the worst. You're not here for authenticity. You're here because you have a few bucks and it's been a minute since you had a super burrito. Got a following for a reason!

La Comida is a bonafide Chico treasure or is that a historical monument? After decades I feel I should know most of the people with gray hair I see here, but again too many decades to discern a high school alum. La Comida is a low to mid-priced Americanized Mexican food establishment. Hard to tell anymore what is authentic. I know what is, and authentic is not in Chico, but that does not mean La Comida is out of the question. I have tried a few things on the menu, and always migrate back to the taco salad or tostada with meat and beans. It is all you can eat, especially when you add in all the free chips and salsa. The awesome chips and salsa haven't changed in 50 years. This feature alone puts La Comida into an upper bracket for affordable Mexican treats. No mariachi bands.

La Comida is pretty much Americanized Mexican food. Good, filling food, but if you're looking for authentic Hispanic choices, this is not your best choice. However, La Comida is a local favorite, with tacos, burritos, nachos, a great beverage selection, beer and margaritas and free chips and salsa. You order at the counter, and your name is called when your food is ready. The staff is always polite, friendly and responsive!

Went here since we were in Chico and I hadn't had this place since they left Redding CA in the 90's I think it was???? Anyway I remember the chips and salsa being grab as you go but looks like times have changed since a server brought us a squeeze salsa bottle and small serving of chips.. The food was ok, you could tell it was premade and just microwaved back to hot again. It was ok and the price was right.. was less than 25 bucks for the wife and I.. Would I go back? Probably not but it wasn't horrible by any means just not quite what I remembered when I was a young growing boy in Redding CA... I almost feel like giving it 2 stars but my childhood memories won't let me go that low.. 3stars is what it gets.

Used to be one of my solid go-to places to eat. Sadly, upon visiting Chico and in turn, La Comida, it is sad to see that like most other establishments, prices have risen dramatically. The value I felt and once got when dining there is gone. Even sadder, I suspect the states governor and commander of all states to ultimately be to blame. What a shame.

I'm not sure I can give this place an unbiased review because I have been coming to La Comida since I was young. It was our lunch destination after church most Sundays and definitely the.only perk about that day. My Nana enjoyed a friendship with Mr. Pavis the founder of this establishment. Now La Comida became the place to go during our high school ( broke as a joke) years and sometimes a friend would be lucky enough to be hired . When closing the restaurant, sometimes we'd stay,loiter around ( help out????) and eventually someone would sing into the microphone. Yes, there's memories that have nothing to do with reviewing the food ( Paradise Senior High class of 1989). 2022- finally, as I've recently gone in for some " comfort" food, I was reminded that there's been a change of ownership and other things as well. The point of sale had a suggestion tip value which I added my own custom tip, in surprise. Also, the cold tostada I ordered was paired with warm beans and rice. Typically this is in box #2 so that my lettuce doesn't get warm, wilty. I haven't decided if this error matters. I can always correct it by requesting my order be boxed differently.

It has fast service, they give you big portions, can always find a table. All their food is really salty tasting to me. My boyfriend loves it and it's always busy. Maybe it's just me. It's also reasonable. I personally do not care for their food .

If you want authentic Mexican food, this is not the place. The worker who took our order was rude, and looked like she didn't want to be there. My husband and I needed a bite to eat while we waited for our car to get fixed, so we picked this place. The portions are huge, but it doesn't look very appealing, and the taste is just okay. The only bright side was the busboy who went above and beyond to help all the customers.

I wish I could give this place more stars. The staff is great, and it it has a very family friendly vibe. But the food is just bland. It's semi-fast food. Compared to places like Taco Bell it is clearly superior. Compared to sit-down restaurants it is rather inferior. Bottom line: while I want to like the place, I just don't crave the food. My brain might agree to go there, but my stomach won't suggest it.

Free chips and salsa were probably the best part. I've been here twice now only to wait in a line that's out the door to order food that's seems rushed and taste ok. The girl who took our order was nice along with the bus boys. I wish they had a little more of a selection than chicken or ground beef. I mean I'd pay for some steak. It's more like MEXICAN FAST FOOD. U order at the counter and your receipt has your order number on it that u display at your table. The chips and salsa has its own area where u go and get yourself, and of course there's a self serve drink area. The food was inexpensive nothing to complain about hut also nothing to brag about. The bathroom was clean and easily accessible for a wheelchair, and the decor thru out the whole place DESPERATLEY needs to b updated, BUT it's also what gives the place it's CHARM. I mean it's LA COMIDA for GAWDS SAKE! it a part of alot of people's childhood history!!

Today I am saddened to write that our family tradition is no longer. I've been taking my children to this family establishment for over 35 years. Things have really changed after the new ownership with service and the food. It's not hard to just stick to what you're already doing but they have definitely ruined it. My favorite used to be the Texas Taco. Simple flour tortillas seemed healthy yummy and healthy choice. Not sure how it was ruined but it's not the same anymore. Taco Tuesday was not.

This is like a version of Taco Bell, but more personalized, they offer diner which means a full plate or combo, rice beans, taco/ enchinada and salad. Fountain sodas and coffee. Very young staff. You need to try it to get an opinion. 👍

This is an insult to Mexican food, and the only reasoning I can gather for reviewers giving it the score that it has is because it's cheap and strangely nostalgic for them. The taco shells are just like the pre-made crunchy shells you buy from the store and the meat is like microwaved ground beef, topped with pre-chopped lettuce and pre-shredded cheese, and all other customers plates had that same type of food. Dry, flavorless, hearltess, cheap, and pre-bought. If you like this place, I couldn't trust that you actually enjoy Mexican food, just the idea of it. Service was ok, and everything came out to their own standard, but being cheap doesn't make it good, and neither does growing up with it. Go to Taco Bell instead because at least they have some inspiration behind their food.

Been coming here since diapers... Brought my family in today after the CSUC tour and was so looking forward to my family having a memorable experience. Unfortunately, they'll not soon forget that the silverware had old foos stuck on it and the tamale had a strange flavor. My husband's reaction, "we're never coming here again." Major disappointment as I felt responsible since it was recommended by me and my nostalgia. After everything... We realized nobody ever brought us chips and salsa. Please work on consistency.

I've put this off for too long. There's a BIG reason this establishment has won the "Cheap Eats" award year after year... and the word is "CHEAP". The meat is bland with very little flavor, and offered with little to no consistency inside the shells or burritos. The dishes are more than not plated sloppily depending on who's working, and the textures of the taco shells tend to fall apart at the mere touch. Bagged lettuce and cheese overwhelm anything they're on. I'm not trying to rain on any parade... I'm well aware of the following this place has. I just cannot in good faith recommend this place, nor patronage this restaurant until the consistency picks-up. I had assumed that with the closing of the Paradise store, the food and service would be better...unfortunately it didn't. The only reason to go in now would be to purchase the salsa to use on your own prepared meals at home... which would probably be made cheaper than eating here.

They have room to improve. The iceberg lettuce salad has no nutritional value and the taco meat was very salty. It is very much cafeteria style if that is what you are looking for. It's a great hangout for groups.

Im new to the place. My 1st red flag was when I walked in it was full and only yt people.. still gave it the benefit of the doubt. I ordered a 24oz drink but got a 12 Oz. Thats not important the Food taste BAD! The beans are dry the rice just aint it. I got 2 enchiladas one chicken and one beef they both came with red sauce which chicken should come with green. So the beef one wasn't bad but huge regret on the chicken. I couldnt even take a bite out of the beans. Its the food okay! If you know your mexican food and flavors this place isn't it. Its not worth even if it was cheap. And it wasn't.

But apparently they have changed their ways and jumped on the bandwagon of charging as much as possible, without upgrading the food! I won't spend money here anymore.. It's definitely not worth it

We ordered food from here today, and it was very tasteless. We were VERY disappointed! My husband got 2 Taco burgers, and I got 2 crunchy tacos. The meat in both the taco burgers and the tacos was flavorless, NO spices in the meat whatsoever!! No chili powder, no cumin, no pepper, or salt, nothing just plain hamburger meat!! Just terrible. We will never be back here again!

Don't think I'll be going here anymore. Went to lunch today and not a single employee had on a mask, people are all on top of each other with nobody asking them to do otherwise, the owner is just walking through the dining room with no mask and chatting up tables like it's business as usual, and the busboys clear dishes from tables then just wipe it down with a damp towel. No cleaner or anything. I'm honestly surprised the health department allows them to stay open right now. Used to be one of my favorite places in town. The food is obviously microwaved but still tastes good and has good portions for the price. Just wish they cared enough to keep the clean/safety protocols in place. This spot is an outbreak waiting to happen. 🤷

Bro, idk how this place is so popular. My visit tonight: go in, bunch of kids standing around talking behind counter. No greeting or anything, place my order, pick it up n drove home (maybe 3 minutes away). Food has solidified grease all up in it. Colder than room temp, the items themselves might've been alright fresh but it definitely wasn't. Hate to hate on a local business but this was disgusting man. Bummer

Taco meat today 11/19/2024 had zero spices,smelled and tasted like ground beef i cook and feed to my dog with allergies. Had to way over use the salsa so the tacos would be edible. Notice a alcohol beverage sign in the window so maybe a new owner.

Went here for dinner, got carry out. Placed the order in the restaurant and drove home, less than 5 minutes away and the food wasn't even room temperature. The Texas Taco had solidified greese and the cheese on everything was melted BUT it was hard and cold like it had all been melted a while ago. The side of refried beans had a weird taste to them also.

I really wanted to like this place. 1k reviews and 4.3? How? Why? The food is disgusting. It tasted old. Not by a couple hours, but many days. After I left I thought please do not get me sick. MRE's taste better. Who are the people reviewing this place? Why are they lying? Why were there so many people there? What am I missing? I read the reviews before ordering so I felt confident that I would get exactly what was on the menu. I ordered my dinner to go. My first item was 2 item dinner. I ordered 1 cheese enchilada, 1 chicken tamale with the rice and beans, and salad. The cheese enchilada and Tamale were tough. The rice and beans were great. The salad was taco lettuce and dressing. When I was at the end of my meal there was paper on the bottom of the container which I didn't know about. I ate half of it because it was in the sauce. I ordered the super burrito with chicken. All the items that were suppose to be inside were missing. I don't think I'll be ordering from here again.

I've eaten here before, every now and then over the years. The only reason I'm leaving this review is in hopes that the owner will fix it. I had the chilly relleno dinner plate. I instantly felt unwell after taking a few bites. I didn't want to eat any more so I left the restaurant. While I was driving back to the hotel, my bowels hurt. I made a mad dash to my hotel room where I sat on the pot and had my head in the can. If you'd ever like to know how it feels shooting out both ends, please eat here. You won't be disappointed.

I usually like La Comida, I have eaten there for years. However the last time I ate there, I got a bad attitude from the front staff. I ordered a chicken burrito, and it was disgusting! I literally couldn't eat it. It smelled bad, it was slimy and it tasted like rotten garbage. I will never eat there ever again.

Actually no that would be being too nice. This place is like the Chum Bucket to the Crusty Crab 🤣🤣🤣 In all honesty I’m sure it’s a local favorite and a lot of people grew up eating this stuff but really? Please please please don’t go here if you’re expecting authentic Mexican food.

If I could give no stars I would. They just don't care anymore. The food is flavorless and cheap. I mean it's always been cheap quality food but at least it used to taste decent. Maybe its time to hire competent employees again instead of just struggling college students more concerned about the next kegger coming up. Prices aren't exactly inexpensive either. Got dinner for my wife and I the other day and it was almost 40 dollars and barely felt like any food. The Paige burrito made my wife very sick too so just an all around great experience 😒

Really bad experience. Never called out order name. I sat there for 20 mins while every other order called out came and went. 15 mins my order sat and my name was never called. ( which the person that took my phone order got wrong!!!)I was also missing an item. Had to go back in and ask for it. I spent $60 on Mexican food for 3 people. Each dinner had only about 2 bites of rice. Not worth it, will never return!
