This was an amazing experience for the traveler. I would recommend you download the app and order ahead. You can even schedule when you will be there to pick it up. Exceptionally convenient and some of the best BBQ you’ll eat! My son said the pulled pork sandwich was the best he’d ever eaten. The Tri-tip sandwhich was excellent. There’s also a mini butcher counter, you can order your Harris Ranch beef to take with you.
Surprisingly good! We had the tri tip and brisket sandwiches and were pleasantly surprised at how good they both were. The meat was tender and delicious. Well, I guess it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, considering how close to the source they are, but still. Super flavorful, too. We will be making this a regular stop when road tripping up the 5.
Happened to pass by and saw this bbq spot and wanted to try. It was amazing! In total we had the Tri tip sandwich, a pulled pork sandwich, potato salad and Mac & Cheese. All were delicious! It’s a grab and go thing and the seating they had outside was clean. Hope to come here again some other time.
Harris Ranch has been one of our stops along the 5 for decades, this was our first time stopping at their To-Go restaurant. Food looked amazing and the setup was perfect, when you don't have time to sit down at their more formal restaurant, their To-Go is perfect. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of what we purchased, I will next time. Here's what we did get, I ordered the Vegetarian chili, which was absolutely delicious, full of flavor, my youngest daughter had the Cheesey Potatoes, which were also very flavorful, and my hubby had the Tri Tip with Mac & Cheese. Portions were perfect, they offer different sizes for most items, which is nice, so we were all able to get exactly what we wanted!!! We will definitely be coming back for more.
Next to tens of Tesla super charger so quite convenient. It's a bbq stall inside the shell convenient stall, but the bbqs are sooo good, better than normal formal restaurant. The line could be long (20 ppl before us) but the service is super fast and I got my food in 10 minutes. We ordered tri-tip and brisket, the brisket is tender and juicy, but I love the tri-tip more for its more intense smoke flavor.
On our way back from our trip we have made it into a pitstop to have lunch! This last time we got half rack of baby back ribs and a tri tip sanwhich! And I must say it did not disappoint me! I do suggest to order ahead 40min ahead of the time you will pick up so you can get there and pick up and enjoy!
This place has been on my places to visit for 6 years. A turned over tractor trailer had me pull off on the exit for Harris Ranch. I grabbed the cheese and brisket sandwich which jalapeño corn bread. Everything was delicious. Harris BBQ did not disappoint. I am tempted to add the RV Park to my list as I travel across California.
Harris Ranch BBQ – A Hidden Gem on I-5 for American BBQ lovers Located inside the convenience store of a Shell gas station, Harris Ranch BBQ truly feels like a hidden gem for BBQ lovers. It’s a perfect quick stop when driving between Northern and Southern California — a place to stretch, refuel, and grab some genuinely good BBQ. They serve classics like tri-tip, brisket, pulled pork, and grilled chicken, which can be ordered as sandwiches or paired with salad. The meats come directly from Harris Ranch nearby, so they’re fresh and high-quality. You can also choose from different breads, like buttered bread or French toast, which makes the sandwiches extra satisfying. I even noticed the staff carefully weighing the meat for each burger — if it fell short, they’d slice extra pieces to make sure it was spot on. For meat lovers, you can add extra portions of tri-tip, brisket, pulled pork, or chicken to your meal, which is a big plus. The BBQ itself is cooked outdoors on three massive stoves, filling the air with smoky aroma — a real sign of traditional American BBQ. Once you order, the meat is sliced fresh inside. Flavor-wise, the BBQ leans a little light on seasoning, so I’d recommend making use of their sauces. They offer three kinds — original, sweet, and spicy — kept warm in heated dispensers that make the BBQ taste even better. You can also add your own black pepper and salt for extra kick. One downside: the desert heat. Eating outside on the rooftop can be tough in summer, even with the fans and misting system they’ve set up — I still felt like I was melting. On the bright side, I spotted a few kittens around the property, which added a bit of charm to the stop. Overall, Harris Ranch BBQ is a surprisingly great roadside find — fresh meats, generous portions, and a true BBQ atmosphere. Definitely worth pulling off I-5 for if you’re craving something hearty on the road.
I was driving on I-5 from San Francisco to Los Angeles, I stopped at this place called Harrison Ranch BBQ. It’s inside a gas station convenience store, and I had never seen something like this in the U.S. before — it was crazy crowded, which usually means the food must be good. So we got in line, and honestly, the service was incredibly efficient. We got our food within 2 to 3 minutes after 20 mins waiting in line. (Scan QR code for App ordering!) The staff worked with such high efficiency — all of them were wearing gloves and weighing each portion of meat (whether it’s brisket or tripe) right in front of you using a small digital scale. That level of transparency and precision is something I rarely see in the U.S. — usually everything happens in the back kitchen, but here, everything is done right in front of you. They also serve beer, wine from Harris vinery, on top of the fountain drinks. I tried two of their most popular items: the brisket and the tri-tip sandwiches, both were great in their own way. I did a bit of research afterward — turns out this BBQ Express opened in 2017, and the owners also run fine dining restaurants and a hotel nearby. The whole area is actually a large travel plaza, and there’s even a Tesla Supercharger station next door. I seriously hope this place gets some investment like In-n-Out burger and can scale nationwide, because we really need places like this to disrupt America’s fast food desert. With high-quality protein at such a fair price, this place offers something exciting for carnivore diet. Great food, quick service, clean bathrooms, tons of parking, and you can grab some drinks and snacks for the road.
Absolutely blown away by how good the barbecue is here!!! I genuinely don’t understand how this place only has a 4.1 rating — the meat is outstanding. Juicy, flavorful, perfectly smoked… every bite was a hit. If you’re coming here, do yourself a favor and stick to the meats, that’s clearly where the magic happens. I did try the dessert and cornbread as well, and those didn’t quite live up to the same standard. They were just okay, nothing I’d order again and they are maybe a 3/5 at best. But honestly, the meat alone is enough reason to come back.
I used to love eat here. This time around I was disappointed. Brisket was a bit dry and there were just a few slices. Even with the side of beans (which were very plain and not tasty) it wasn’t enough food for lunch. It was more like a snack. Sandwiches were ok but nothing special. I hope this place comes back to the quality it used to be.
Tri tip and chicken r flavorful and juicy. Cole slaw and sides r average, acceptable. Portion size of the chicken was outrageously small. Drink fountain offer flavor shot add-in eg vanilla, cherry, strawberry and lemon. No free refill, can pay for refill alone.
It is "famous" Our first visit. So we ordered: The brisket 4.5 stars It was soft and not dry. Probably because of higher fat content but it did not taste fatty. Tri tip 3 stars. Very dry. Needed to chew more thoroughly. Definitely healthier less fat content. Regular salad was ok 3 stars. Nothing special. Thus us the take out window with lots of patio sitting. Line was very long
I went to this place twice every month, the brisket and tri-tip are great. Normally it was one of the two guys cut the meat. Today 01/15/26 when I got there it was a lady who cut the meat. I ordered half pound brisket and half pound tri-rip. Somehow I felt the meat was less than what I usually got. When I arrived home, I put them on my scale, both only weigh 7.4 oz. This was very disappointed!
I love the main Harris Ranch Restaurant and had high expectations of their bbq take out. But I was extremely disappointed in the brisket and the beans. They were completely devoid of ANY seasoning or flavor. Thank god for the bbq sauce and table salt!! Maybe I’m just very spoiled as I regularly get to eat THE best brisket at Heritage BBQ in San Juan Capistrano !!
After half an hour wait in the line, I got my half pound of beef brisket which are all corner pieces in triangle shape, a tri tip taco salad without avocado (no warning when I order and no substitute offers when they prepare the food either), and a decent garden salad. Does the food taste ok? Yeah! Worth the wait? No!
A few years back, we used to stop here all the time on long trips for diesel and a great bite to eat. Stopped in again after a long time hoping to enjoy this place once again just to see all of the diesel fuel islands and truck parking gone. Replaced by POS electric car charging stations. Ya'll can kiss my rear. Never coming back here ever again.
