Had a fantastic visit here tonight. I ordered the bangers and mash, a true British classic, and it did not disappoint. I loved reading all the historical items and documents displayed on the walls. It really adds to the experience and makes the visit feel unique. You’ve got to try the Ostrich Gin made from local honey!! A wonderful mix of great food, character, and history. Highly recommend!
We had an 8 hour layover at Heathrow so we decided to discover the nearby historic ostrich Inn for a proper British meal and we weren’t disappointed. A charming old building. Fresh lagers and ales. And a beautiful menu. I thoroughly enjoyed my jarmans pie! Great experience.
Place was fantastic. Great history, food was pub style and what I wanted. Very close to Heathrow and would absolutely stay here again. Apparently haunted but whatever.
In my line of work I stay in many different types of overnight accommodation, the majority are mid range brand hotels. Mainly because I arrive fairly late and leave early and it helps as they are a known commodity. I just really need a quite room, a comfortable bed and a warm shower. I chose the Ostrich Inn as I didn't need to leave at 0400 and could stay later so fancied something a little different. I arrived, parked in the large car park without issue. I wasn't quite sure whether reception was at the front or back but it turned out that its in the bar and the entrance is in the tunnel in the middle of the building which is quite normal in an old coaching house. Asked at the bar and I was shown a little desk to the left and booked in there by a female who I think was also bar staff. A little curt but she booked me in and gave me the key (room1). I wasn't asked to book my car in though and it was only when I was getting ready for bed I found a notice in the room telling me it was important to check the car in. My room fronted onto the road and I wondered whether it would be noisy but the traffic was very light and with the double glazing it wasn't noisy at all. The room was quaint, well furnished, clean and tidy with a separate shower, which is separate to the toilet/basin. The colour scheme was really nice and suited the room and furniture well, and the curtains were thick and blocked out almost all light, which will be a great help in summer. I loved the King John and Magna carter pictures, which were local history virtually. Not sure what happened to the second hook o the door but as I've only one jacket which I would have put in the wardrobe but there's an odd smell in there, just a bit musty probably. It does have a wash basin in the room with a mirror which the toilet did not, which was surprising. All electrics worked and there were some lovely bedside lamps that added to the look although the internet socket was quite loose and the shaver socket, recently renewed hadn't been finished very well and did stand out in an otherwise high end room. The bed was nice and I slept well, awaking refreshed. Made myself tea with the supplied bags and milk. I then went for a shower but nearly had to give up as after 4-5 minutes the water was still freezing. I eventually came out and ran the sink hot water tap, which eventually ran lukewarm. Well, the show must go on I thought and went for the shower. No shelf to put shampoo on so I had to put the soap on the floor and yes I've seen the film. Luckily all went lukewarmly until suddenly it became very, very hot, so as I was almost finished I turned it off. I managed to do the parking computer entry when I left my key so hopefully we wont get a fine. Did I enjoy the stay?.....Yes Will I stay again?..........Yes, if the props don't take offence at a balanced review. Could it have been better? not much, maybe a shelf, and more obvious control markings on the shower, and attention to sockets.
Excellent in every way, went with the intention of staying in motorhome over night after Thorpe park, as this pub was online allowing motorhome park up, but after having a few drinks etc, ended up getting a room, very impressed and Richard was very professional and friendly. Staff where amazing, breakfast beautiful, I’m hard to please, but this place ticked all the boxes, will be back a and only £11 in taxi from Heathrow. Recommend 👍
Only 15 mins taxi ride to Heathrow T3, is this gem. You can stay in this Olde Worlde coaching in for around £100 per night (a quarter of the price of some of the airport hotels). A traditional bar with draught beers including hand-pulled ales, a good wine selection and excellent food, we were in heaven. The rooms have been tastefully modernised although still retaining their charm. Our dinner was excellent (bangers and mash and meat pie) and the breakfasts were also tasty and wholesome. You can leave your car in the car park while you venture abroad for £9 per night. Thanks in particular to the lovely Charlotte for looking after us so well. This will be our go-to place to stay when we go to Heathrow airport.
This was an excellent choice for my overnight stop in London. Close to the airport and delightful food and drink. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!
Stayed for the night after being let down by a flight. The room was big and cosy, bed was very comfy and large. I didn't eat because I was too late but the beers are very good, and the coffee is nice. Staff are all brilliant, and the beer garden is amazing. It is a bit loud at night under the flight path, but I guess everywhere is around here.
Staying at Heathrow and wanted to check out some local pubs. This place was everything i expected from an old English pub and more. Great old building with so much character. Our server was lovely and helpful explaining the menu items. I of course had the fish n chips. Fried in clean oil, nice n crispy served with mushy peas. Very good!! The beef pot pie and wings were also tasty. All washed down with some good local pilsner. Happy we came here. Nice bartender n friendly people.
Been coming here over the years with customers for lunch mainly. This time I booked a room for the night. Really great room, clean welcoming and good wifi. Breakfast is first class and staff really friendly.
Cute pub full of haunted history... beautiful decorated for Christmas and tge food was absolutely delicious 10 out of 10 ❤️
The Ostrich Inn is a wonderful place to stay especially if you're on your way out to Heathrow. The staff are cheerful and welcoming. The food was outstanding! The Jarman's Pie is so flavorful... do not miss out on ordering that delightful dish! Cheers!
Stayed here 2 nights while waiting for a flight out of LHR airport. Very convenient from LHR Terminal 5 on the 703 bus (10 minutes & £1.50). The staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms are very cute and are currently being upgraded. The pub is wonderful and food very good.
Stopped in for dinner last night after our flight home was canceled. The food was delicious. After sharing a starter we could barely finish the generous portions. Staff was friendly and atmosphere was delightful. I highly recommend fellow Americans stop at this little piece of London history (and try fish and chips. The homemade tartar sauce is to die for)
I have no personally stayed at the hotel myself. But the pub element, I can vouch for. I have visited the pub a couple times during the weekend and also enjoyed amazing Sunday roast there. The atmosphere inside is calming and the aesthetic is beautiful. It has a very welcoming and homely ambiance. The place is very clean and smells very fresh. Everything is very well laid out and set. The location is very accesible with a car park at the back. Also, nice area for walks especially seeing when the sun sets. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming.
Incredibly convenient airport location. 10/10 recommend it to you. Old historical building, which we loved. Some of the doorways are a bit short because the building is so old, I am 5’7 and in our suite my head touched one of the doorways, my brother is 6’3 and had to duck and dip to get into 3 of the doorways. It was a marvelous adventure. We had a great time with it. Modern updated furnishings in the family suite, full kitchen and washer/dryer. Staff was incredible and waited Three extra hours after closing for us to check in late. Breakfast, lunch and dinner all delicious Hearty and flavorful. Dinner was especially popular I recommend you make reservations
We stopped here for dinner on the last night of a business trip. The food was extremely good and had we very good service. There is a nice ambiance in the restaurant which made me feel really comfortable. The main pub area seemed very pleasant and the entrance blended a great modern touch to such an historical building. I cannot comment on the rooms as we did stay here but judging from the pictures and the price point that I would, without question, stay at the Inn rather than one of the nearby hotels as I did this time.
We stayed here for a night after flying in from Heathrow. The Ostrich is a great place to stay, location ideal for Heathrow and other transport links to central London. Rooms were very comfortable, clean and spacious. Staff were great and really helpful.
We loved our stay at The Ostrich. It was our last night in England and the best food we'd had the whole trip. The service was great. The room as clean. And, the atmosphere, history, and lore of the place were fantastic! Plus, the proximity to Heathrow was ideal for dropping off our rental car and having affordable, convenient accommodations before our flight home to the US. We'll definitely be back.
Ostrich Inn, such a great place to stay for the night and such great quality home cooked proper pub food. Turned up late after getting back to the airport and saw it was in a good location and well priced. Had one room left and it was perfect. If you’re looking for a nice bit of food or a nice place to stay near Heathrow airport this would be the spot for you.
My daughter has moved to the area, today we took her to the Ostrich; we had our dog they reserved us a dog friendly table. The young ladies in there were so polite & nice, service was lovely as was the food. Our daughter has a little gem on tap.
Great atmosphere in a traditional British pub with a great choice of culinary food.
Just came back here from a roast dinner. Was super excited as they had a new Sunday menu! The sharing board. What can only be described as a mountain of food , served on a platter and cooked perfectly
Great place to eat/drink if you're staying near to Heathrow for a stop over or the night before an early flight. Menu's good and you can eat inside or out.
The staff here go above and beyond and the rooms and hotel in general are immaculate
Great, characterful pub in Colnbrook village. The beer selection is superb & the food is great too. Bearing in mind it's just a stone's throw from Heathrow airport, room prices are surprisingly low.
Brilliant food and service - Charlotte, our hostess, was fantastic, had a lovely personality and surely is destined for a great career in hospitality! If you are using Heathrow and staying overnight , make sure you reserve a table here…. Five Stars 🌟
I can't say anything about the rooms as we were only there for dinner. We came there as a family of four with two 6-year-olds. The waitresses were really nice, especially the young lady was really nice to us and especially the kids. The food was great and fairly priced. This is a real gem that we highly recommend.
Unique experience for this Texan; cozy, comfortable setting with obliging service & excellent food. Do NOT MISS the baked Camembert with fig jam. Nice selection of cider, lager & stout. Will be back Insha’Allah.
This little gem is superb! - a little hard to find, being so incredibly close to LHR but that's also what's great about it! It's proximity is such a boon - takes all the stress out of travelling from wherever, to the airport. It is clean, well-appointed and, this time at least, the food was excellent. The staff are a little variable - some are wonderful, some not so much..
Stopped off for dinner, mid journey from Wales to Kent. Easy access from motorway, warming welcome, polite and friendly staff. Food was amazing, all cooked fresh. Brilliant experience in a fascinating, extremely historical pub.
A very quant hotel establishing in 1106, the rooms were very clean and very well appointed, rooms are very clean and the bed is lovely. Staff are great too.
My parents have always lived in colnbrook, what a beautiful place! With exceptional thanks to Keeley and Charlotte for a lovely lunch!
I loved staying here. It’s clean, cozy, and convenient to the airport and to public transportation. The people who work here are kind, friendly, helpful, and they do a great job keeping a beautiful old inn comfortable and up-to-date. Breakfast was very good, but I want to make some time to go back for dinner here. Also important, it’s pet-friendly. Now - if you don’t want to stay near a neighborhood pub or an airport, and you need total silence, it may not be for you. I found a nice balance between some peaceful pub goers and a few takeoffs and an otherwise quiet street, so it was perfect for me. Many thanks to the staff!
Excellent, polite and courteous service from Keeley and Keeley. Delicious food as well. We shall return. Thank you.
My family recently stayed at The Ostrich Inn in Colnbrook. The location is excellent, conveniently located next to the airport, Windsor castle and Legoland. The ambiance of the inn itself is cozy, charming, and full of character. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The food is outstanding. We really enjoyed the fish and chips, and English breakfast. While staying at the Ostrich, my daughter celebrated her birthday. Every member of the team, Cherry (server), Keta (chef) and Karolina (housekeeper), went above and beyond to make sure my daughter felt incredibly special on her big day. They surprised her with thoughtful touches, including singing her happy birthday, decorating the room, and a heartfelt card. It’s rare to find such genuine hospitality, and it made all the difference. The customer service is excellent and they are so welcoming. Thank you, Ostrich Inn, for creating such a special birthday for my daughter.
The food was divine! Really fresh and well put together, super tasty!! Everything was a fair price for a lovely classic countryside pub (just off the M4 🤭) Service wasn't the warmest but who wants to be at work the weekend before Christmas 😋
Great stop near Heathrow airport. Arrived at 8 pm. Car at Maple parking. Easy to get from Heathrow and then to Maple car park via bus. Bar meals tasty. Lovely atmosphere. Great pub with interesting history too.
Historically known as the 3rd oldest Pub. I just stopped over to visit it. But for a Thursday morning, it was busy. History is everywhere inside the Pub. There are some dining rooms that it might be available for bigger groups to meet up. Lovely atmosphere. I haven't eaten , so I can not mention about the food. Some car bays available at the back. Is located in the small village of Colnbrook near LHR. I did not stay at the hotel, so i can't comment on the rooms.
Avoid the feature room right above the bar. I booked it but I could hear the bar noise and I changed to the Ostrich Nest. The reception isn't well marked; it's at the end of the bar. Service was helpful and attentive. I enjoyed the bangers and mash, although the portion was smaller than expected. Recommend for early flights as cab was about 12 min/28 pounds. Convenient to a small grocery. I would stay again in a double room. The dining room and bar were cozy and convivial. Recommend if you are seeking an old inn with character rather than bland chain.
We drop on here for a hot drink before going to the airport. Perfect place to wait.
Went for dinner here. The pub ambiance is great. Staff friendly. We had Pie and dessert. The pie was good, but we did not expect an Indian flavour like a Curry/Korma. The description was more into a steak, carrot and red wine pie. Nice fusion, but not our preferred taste. The cheesecake for dessert was good.
Rooms shabby need spring clean. Service in the bar hit and miss. Served cold mushy peas with meal. Location good for airport.
So, the place was great. The staff was pleasant, rooms were nice and food was good. I do have an issue though.. I do not think I have ever stayed in a hotel before were there wasn't at least a nightwatchman. Even the most run down, ratty establishments had this... I think it's the height of irresponsible management to not have at least that. What if there was a fire or some sort of emergency? At least give guests the run down with a phone number., procedures etc of what to do in the event of something going wrong. It could even be something as simple as leaving your room in the middle of the night and locking yourself out. I think it behooves the place to do something about this. As I said, everything else was amazing, this factor was too glaring to ignore however..
Stayed here before flying home after a stay in London. The Inn came recommended as a great location with easy access to Heathrow. The atmosphere is great- a very historic inn in a quiet area, perfect wrap up to our trip. The food was great- highly recommend the Strawberry Gin. Chris and Piper were so helpful and fantastic. Will be coming here again!
We stayed at this hotel for one night very nice rooms. We booked an evening meal. They said they served roasts on Sunday but I could choose of pub menu as I don’t eat meat. But, come the evening they said they would not let me eat of said menu. So ordered roast and have the meat to my friend. When I complained they said they would have cooked fish for me too late. Also had scrambled eggs for breakfast on bread. They did toast it for me but then eggs were cold. Not a good experience. Would not return.
A very disappointing stay in this historic, haunted pub. Whilst the staff were all lovely, the room felt tired and very dated. Perhaps the most uncomfortable (spring!!) mattress I've had in a hotel for decades (or ever) combined with zero hot water in the room. My pancake breakfast was passable, whilst a local (regular) complained how poor this particular chef was and his whole meal was cold. We only stayed as was passing through - when we arrived at our destination we had a shower and sleep -which says it all really.
We have been travelling throughout the world for many years and this is by far the worst experience we have ever had . The manager and receptionist refuses to answer our emails regarding a matter and the owners who I've been told are Bev and Davinda will also not return any emails. Beware and we don't recommend this place in any way. Awful experience . If the owners read this and you are unaware of the situation make contact
Dined only. Interior very run-down and looking tired and uncared for. Service abysmal, had to request condiments and sauces. No check back done and one meal wasn’t great. Plates remained on our table for over 20 minutes while three staff chatted at the bar. It wasn’t at all busy either. Unfortunately, as customers, we seemed to be an inconvenience to their evening! Food ok but some odd flavours and combinations on our plates. Wouldn’t return I’m afraid. Plenty of other restaurants and eateries around.
When arrived needed to wait for the table which we booked in advance, it was ok, but the waiters were ignorant of us, and we needed to ask for it twice. Ordered drinks and food, the drinks didn't come fast, after around 30 min one waiter approached us and asked if we ordered drinks by showing us an order which they misplaced and didn't know who ordered it. We confirmed it was ours. For food waited quite long, and there wasn't that many people dinning. Food was ok, a bit cold when arrived. During dinner we weren't approached by waiters to check on us at all. When we got tired of waiting, went to the bar to ask to pay for the dinner, Simona said I can do it there. Went to take my card, got back and paid for it, she just said thank you and run off to serve another customer without even offering the receipt. I waited a bit longer till one boy noticed me and asked for receipt. It was our New Year's eve dinner, which was not so pleasant. The next day we noticed that we were overcharged by additional meal, which we didn't order or received! It was unacceptable and disappointing! We had a fantastic time at Ostrich before, but after yesterday I don't think we will be coming back or recommend it to any of our friends! Felt ignored by waiters and disappointed about overcharged on food!
