We ordered -Angus Beef Sliders 2 -Fish&Chips -Guacamole&Chips -Mai-Tai -Virgin Mango Margarita All the food was good and Mai Tai was the best. Must try!! Came here for lunch with a view of the beach. The food and drinks were so cute and delicious. The Angus beef sliders were small but rich flavor. I visited on a Wednesday afternoon and there were not many people and it was very quiet. The atmosphere was peaceful and my server was friendly.
Our server was a delight. Me and three of my coworkers were in town for work and came without a reservation around 6:00pm. It was a 30 minute wait on a Monday night so I’d say were pretty lucky. The food was delicious! The place was clean. We sat outside and watched a row class and people paddle boarding.
Harpoon Henry’s will be officially closing January 25. We will miss this place which has a lot of memories for many people for decades. Children, friends, and travelers from all around have come visit and enjoyed a delicious meals, drinks and entertainment. We truly relate to say thank you to Bob Mardian Jr. And the Management team along with the terrific employees through all these years. To come down and say goodbye and have a toast to one of Dana Points restaurants. Cheers and Thank You 😊
We had the pleasure of having our last meal here, as we found out that the restaurant will close sometime later this Summer 2025. Apparently, this historic restaurant will be replaced with a more updated shopping arena. A local historic site will be gone...what a shame! We really enjoyed the harbor view. For starters, we had the jumbo shrimp cocktail...nice crunch due to the diced celery at the bottom of the glass with very tasty shrimp cocktail sauce. I had the Endless Summer cocktail to enjoy. For dinner, I had the Seafood Combination (coconut shrimp, mahi-mahi macadamia, & pan-seared scallops) with asparagus & rice pilaf. The clam chowder soup was good with lots of clams. My significant other had the mahi-mahi macadamia dinner. The food was quite tasty. Our server was very amicable and attentive. We will miss this place.
My wife decided on the Cioppino, which was delightfully tasteful, and very fulfilling days the wife. I myself went with Seafood Combination which was SOO good let me tell you! For starters the Macadamia Mahi-Mahi was perfectly crusted, and so savory, the coconut shrimp was buttery and presented a tropical like coconut taste, the seared scallops were exceptional.. aswell as the asparagus and the creamy well textures mashed potato’s. We will in fact live to come back and would recommend this place for a very romantic evening.
This place is a true 10! My waitress was very helpful. The area is beautiful! The food was delicious and pretty quick to come out. I had a yummy bowl of clam chowder, a shrimp cocktail, and a mint tea. For the kids they had a really tasty fish and chips that came with slices of watermelon. The fish was fresh and crispy and super moist inside! The shrimp cocktail was delicious as well and really big shrimps too! Not rubbery at all! They were perfect 👌 We sat outside right on the harbor. Was a beautiful view while we ate. Definitely a must if your near by or even if your not 😋 i live about 2hrs in traffic and 1hr and 10 mins no traffic away but I will definitely make a trip again sometime soon to eat here again. I really want to try many more items on the menu. Oh and you can make reservations online on their website. But it was not packed at all it was perfect!
5 stars on food, service and ambiance. Truly a must-visit when you are in Dana Point. Drinks are reasonably priced. You get to sit steps from the boats watching people go by on the dog friendly patio. I had the calamari strips appetizer - easily enough of a meal for one and so delish soft inside and crispy on the outside. With a large IPA, the tab was under $30. Reasonable for the locating and quality. Will go there again!
Great location at Dana Point Harbor overlooking the marina. Had the wonderful tuna stack and it was awesome. The Tuna was seared perfectly the way itbshould be. My buddy had sliders, and he said they were great. The server was a young college kid and he was very on point and didn't miss anything. Have nice outdoor dining area too.
This restaurant was overall an amazing experience. The view of the harbor was beautiful and all of the staff was so friendly. I have multiple food allergies and the wait staff and head chef were working together to alter a meal while keeping in mind the flavor profile as well. I had a few wait staff on the case and they all seemed to genuinely care. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!
This is a lovely chilled out restaurant with a great menu, that lives up to expectations and beyond. Beautiful location on the marina, and all lot of space in the indoor restaurant too. Superb service. Had a really lovely long lunch. Saddened to hear they may not be there for very long, and glad we caught it in time. All the best good people.
Amazing views, great food and service. It’s one of the few gems of a restaurant left in California. It has such a comfortable, relaxing feel which makes one welcomed. We had a party at seven reservation and they gave us a fabulous table with a view of the harbor. Our server was amazing and the food was delicious. The dishes range from $20-$40. Our family favorite is the calamari steak strips $18 (some ppl get this as their entree. The salads are fresh and big enough to share. Highly recommend harpoon Henry’s would give it more stars if I could. This restaurant has been there since I can remember but the Dana Point harbor is changing all the shops around it are closing. I really hope they are not selling out and going corporate like other harbors. They build a huge ugly parking structure, which is really out of place.
The restaurant has lovely views over the marina and the staff were very helpful. Our waiter, Michael, was really good. The food was great. We had the California Halibut and the Hawaian chicken. Both were delicious. Another restaurant to add to our list of restaurants to return to when in the area.
Have enjoyed great food and service at Harpoon Henry's since our first time in 1979. Michael, however, is our favorite server. Sorry to see the end of a Legacy as they close for the last time on August 10th.
Delicious as always! We were pleasantly surprised to discover Dana Point was not too busy today. We were seated right away and the service was fantastic. Brittany was great!! Very very attentive. Which after being to two restaurants in San Juan where they could not get it together (both of which we gave up and walked out after ten minutes without so much as a "hello")... we were so happy to have such great service. Seafood was fresh. Friend had fish n chips. I had the seafood salad, and got some food to-go. As per usual a great meal from Harpoon Henry's. Thank you!
I have had the pleasure of dining here 4 times and each time I leave with a smile and a very satisfied palate. The calamari steak I would recommend for lunch and dinner. The potions are perfect, you can fill up and not walk away miserable. Perfectly cooked every time and fresh! I would also recommend the fish and chips.
This place has really good food and atmosphere! The views of the harbour are gorgeous and the staff are very accommodating. Highly recommend. We ordered the glazed Atlantic Salmon, Calamari steak and fish n chips, all were absolutely delicious. A little pricey but for the atmosphere, views and food it becomes self-explanatory!
We had a wonderful time here - such a great location looking over the harbor and the food was delicious! Our favorite dish was the filet mignon sliders! Our server was also extremely attentive and even brought dog bowl for water right away which was thoughtful. We were a group of four people but we also had three dogs with us - we loved that they had a patio area with tables nicely spread out to comfortably accommodate groups with dogs 😊
The service was wonderful. I should have listened to the server when he suggested the coconut shrimp appetizer, I opted for the dinner and it was way too much. The sauce was great! The shrimp was crunchy and way too much food. The highlight of the dinner was the fresh warm sourdough rolls. Oh yeah the drinks were also tummy! Great place will be coming back... And will listen to the server's suggestions!
Tonight was date night with my wife (she's smoking 🔥). We went to Harpoon Henry's for dinner. Our server was Lauren, she was amazing. We had the calamari strips for our appetizer, the calamari steak along with the fish and chips. All three were awesome!!! If you ever have a chance to go there I highly recommend one and or all for your meal. All in all 5 stars are an under statement I'd give more stars if it was possible. I highly recommend Harpoon Henry's for your next night out. If you are lucky enough to get Lauren as your server she'll definitely take care of you. We WILL definitely be back as they have our business.
Sat at the outside bar, and had the pleasure of being served by Casey who can make me a Espresso Martini anytime. Crazy good and impressive presentation, one of my top 5!! Coconut shrimp appetizer was fresh and hot. Had the 4oz filet with coconut shrim with asparagus. Will definitely go back.
First time at Harpoon Henry's, I must admit it was pretty good, from the ambiance to food and drinks. Thought the prices were a little high but it is in a prime location and the food was better than I thought. I'm not a big seafood guy but my wife loves seafood. My wife ordered appetizers for dinner, a bowl of clam chowder and a jumbo shrimp cocktail. She loved both of them. The chowder had plenty of clams and even I had a bite and thought it was pretty good. I decided to play it safe, since I'm not a seafood guy and I ordered the hamburger with french fries. That hamburger was above average and was better than most Burger restaurants. The meat was so tender and juicy and it was the best restaurant burger I've had in a long time. The fries were very good too. The waiter, Colin, was very friendly and helpful with the menu and questions we had. The prices are a little high but the food and ambiance was the reason.
Great food, awesome staff and clean restaurant. A man came to our table with our crab cakes and as he reached over the table with the plate, both crab cakes slipped off the plate, landing on the table. No one in our party of 5 was upset rather, we laughed it off and told the man “no worries.” He apologized and said he felt embarrassed but we assured him all was fine. It was an innocent mistake that couldn’t possibly make us upset or angry. He brought out another batch of the crab cakes and they were the best I’ve ever had!!!!! We loved eating lunch here, with a great view of the harbor. Parking was kind of far, but understandable, as it’s right on the harbor.
The food was good except for Clam Chowder (which my MIL found it a bit sandy). Mai Tai was yum. So were the veggie burgers. The staff were friendly, our waitress was more than happy to replace our clam chowder. Ambience was cozy. Loved the guacamole and salsa with chips, it was very fresh and yummy.
Beautiful restaurant on the harbor. Got there at sunset and was seated right away. The food was good to me and very good to my husband. He said it might have been the oil, it was a little strong but I'm sure it was just my taste buds from traveling, so that's why the minus 1, only in case it was the oil. The crabcakes also had tasted if they cooked it, where they cooked a hamburger and forgot to scrap the grill. That actually was a pleasant surprise. The server Jake and his helper were very nice and prompt with service.
We came here during the week and it was pretty busy, a good sign! We tried the Mai Thai and it was really good. Fruit juices and multiple runs. For food we ordered the fish and chips. Their coleslaw was quite different ut really good, not your traditional coleslaw. The fish was cooked to perfection and the fries was amazing. The staff was friendly, and waters were ways topped off, which is a plus for me.
The views are fantastic. It's a great way to start an evening in Dana Point. Stop in here and have drinks in the bar and either have appetizers during happy hour or order full meals. Either way, you'll find a full restaurant and bar. It is a popular place. The food is good. The prices are in line with this type of restaurant with a view. I wouldn't call it the best food or the cheapest price, but it's ok for what you get. Fish and Chips is good. Sometimes the beer specials are great!
The photo is a bit after I demolished one. The shrimp tacos are better than the mahi-mahi but they did a great job on both. The chipotle mayo was great but not over powering. Great scenery but a bit pricey. Great spot to kill some time with good chill music selection and I could feel their Long Island iced tea after one…and I’m unfortunately not a light weight (miss those days).
Good food and great service . One thing to add would be to keep the traditional menu and not make too many changes . Happy hours & brunch hours are not clear to lot of my colleagues so it would be better for the restaurant to make it clear and post it on their site. Staff were great and cheerful & helpful .
I really liked the service and the location of the restaurant. The view was so pretty! The food was good, but I honestly expected it to be better for the price. I did really enjoy the scalps, coconut shrimp, and the claim chowder! Highly recommend those! I personally thought the red sauce covered up the flavor of the seafood without enhancing it, however my sister enjoyed it.
Came for the lights and ended up enjoying the meal at Harpoon Henry's! The restaurant itself is beautiful, it's spacious and good for the views. Speaking of the food, we opted for a cioppino and filet mignon sliders (add $3 for the fries) to share. I've gotta say, I enjoyed them both! Cioppino was so flavorful, and it had a good amount of seafood in the bowl. What surprised me the most was their mussels! Size-wise, it was probably the biggest I've ever had, and it was so super fresh. So good! Filet mignon sliders were really good too, we asked for medium rare and they made it just right. It was really tender, juicy and full of flavor. The only downside would be their cocktail, Mai Tai wasn't good at all. But, service was good! Luc was our server that night, he constantly came and checked if we were satisfied our meal and asked if we needed anything. Very attentive and polite. All in all, good food good service good view. Honestly, at first I thought this place would be a bit touristy, but the food was actually pretty good. At least, I enjoyed both dishes we had that night. Bonus points, it's also doggie friendly!
I was looking forward to trying a new restaurant that I hadn’t been to, especially because I like Dana Point. We were sat timely and although the restaurant was somewhat full, I would’ve expected it to be packed since it was Mother’s Day. Perhaps we missed the rush(?). Anyway, our waiter was a nice young man, and we ordered drinks. Unfortunately the champagne was warm, although the OJ was cold… except that I didn’t order a mimosa. I let it go. When we ordered juice it was brought out in small carafe glassware as if for a side of juice for champagne or something. No glass. We requested a glass of juice to drink as a non-alcoholic option. We ordered an appetizer and our entrees, and I asked if he could hold off on submitting our entree order so that we had time to eat the appetizer first and keep things hot. Appetizer came out, then about 60 seconds later, our entrees. The young guy who dropped off the food asked if we need anything else, but was literally walking away as he said it. We actually thought it was funny because it was so odd. Guess it’s good that we didn’t need anything else. We wanted to have time to eat the appetizer and then, when ready, get our entrees (hot). Didn’t happen. It was obvious that the entrees were sitting because the sauces with the fish dishes were not even warm. $40 an entree, or frankly any amount, should warrant hot food being served hot. I didn’t say anything because it was clear to me that management had not properly trained the young man. He was kind and well-meaning though. Bottomless champagne was the lowest level quality, and I had to politely request a refill, although the young man did accommodate and I sense he was doing what he could at that point. I have patience and compassion, especially when it’s a young person trying to figure things out, but it stressed me out. Mother’s Day should be a day of relief and relaxation and not having to guide the experience. I don’t want to feel guilt for lapses in service that the management is ultimately responsible for. I hoped for stellar service and being treated like a queen for one day of the year. 😛🤷🏼♀️
Over time, I've been to Harpoon Henry's approximately 70 times. In the past, it was a nice venue, and they had live bands play on the weekend which was nice. Now, the restaurant is slowing down, and it won't be long before it is gone. It still serves decent food, but the place has lost its mojo. We stopped by on a Sunday night to check things out, and it wasn't very busy. We had the market salad, a plate of fish and chips and a few cocktails. The food we ordered was good, and the service at the counter bar (rendered by bartender Casey, a transplant from KY) was very good. This restaurant will be gone forever in a few months and replaced by a fancy new reimagined marina. You might want to pop in for a cocktail(s) and happy hour food before the restaurant is RIP.
Decent food. Has the seafood omelette. Can't fault it but nothing special. You're definitely there for the weather and views. Service is good. Nice place to relax for brunch but my company told me the burgers were inadequate if you're the type to eat more. Fries are extra and we're a bit against the concept. I don't know if I'd return specifically for this place but if I'm already in the area, I won't say no.
Harpoon Henry's is a casual no frills seafood restaurant found right off the marina. The food is good, but conventional and a bit plain. For instance, the shrimp salad arrived with a good amount of plain boiled/steamed shrimp, but had those shrimp been grilled and seasoned a bit more, that salad would have easily gained another star. On the other hand, the cocktails are fantastic and the hype surrounding the Mai Tai's is no joke. It was a well balanced combo of sweet and sour, yet remained stiff. Staff was super friendly and helpful, atmosphere was relaxed.
Experience was not great. Good lighting. Good people. Bad service. Our food got given to the wrong kitchen and we were told after 45min it was being transferred to the correct kitchen. Then it took another 45min to get to the table. No French fries were given, and the meat was extremely rare when asked for it to be well done.
