My favorite restaurant in Town! I always love to come here, the atmosphere is great! The food is delicious!!! The staff very caring and friendly! You feel very welcome here as their guest they really appreciate you! :)) my favorite dish is Chicken Paprikash, makes me come here 2-3 times a week! Love it!
Went for lunch as I was craving some Eastern European food and it didn't disappoint. I tried the Hungarian tarragon soup, the stuffed cabbage and their desert, and it was exceptional. The wine too! Portions were big, and the service very friendly and welcoming. The setting is also very nice. I'll definitely be back!
Located at a small strip mall, this wonderful little restaurant serves very good Hungarian dishes (we didn’t try its Italian offerings) and excellent service. We had some of its traditional Hungarian dishes as in Chicken Liver pate, burrada salad, Somloi trifle, Hungarian walnut seed noodles, chicken paprikas, and stuffed cabbage. The walnut noodles were interesting as they were dusted with crushed walnuts and powder sugar (yes, that is correct). The noodles had a good texture, and the sweetness of the powder sugar was a bit different, but tasted fine. The burrada salad was something new to us and it was very good paired with some bread for the creamy cheese. The other dishes all tasted good. The desserts were good as well, including its tiramisu. I only had one small gripe. The chicken paprikas had a few bone chips (two, to be exact) and I wound up having a tooth ache for the rest of the night after I chomped on one of them. The chef probably needs a new knife to cut the chicken bones. The wine selection wasn’t extensive, but sufficient. The nice server offered my wife to taste some of its whites since she normally doesn’t drink and had no idea what the wines tasted like at this place. The sitting area was cozy and comfortable. The noise level wasn’t bad and we can easily converse during the dinner. The parking was extremely easy, which was right out front with plenty of spaces since most other tenants at this mall had already closed for the day when we arrived for dinner.
No wonder it has such a high review on Google: fantastic food with great service, what more do you expect! All the entries are flavorful yet not salty. The meats are very tender. The only place to get the Hungarian dessert Somlol Trifle outsides of Hungary. Decorated with arts made by Hungarian artists living locally. Highly recommended!
Definitely will be back. This was an amazing experience. It was a last-minute lunch and my husband and I couldn’t have been more thrilled. We ate purely the Hungarian food and were absolutely delighted. The service was impeccable and everything was perfect. We will definitely be back.
Highly recommend to try this restaurant. I mean these days you don’t get an authentic food with the owner being present and tell you the details. Peter ( the owner ) has done a great job bringing Hungarian food to La. The food is very tasty, the wine choice is wonderful and the dessert is to die for! The restaurant is clean and staff is very friendly 🫶
A super cute restaurant, especially for fun date night. Loved what we got. We started with the beet salad, and then shared a few dishes. We also ordered this dessert covered in whipped cream. Everything was delicious.
I decided to check this place out because it was close to my hotel, well rated, and participating in aadvantage dining while I was trying to hit a points goal 😊 I went in planning to order Italian, but the owner/waiter was really selling the hungarian food. So I got the beet salad and the stuffed cabbage. The beet salad is *Enormous*, and great, but the real standout was the stuffed cabbage. It was so good. I had leftovers, and I'm not kidding when I say I woke up thinking about it first thing the next morning, and even just ate the leftovers cold out of my hotel fridge. Definitely recommend! My only suggestion would be to add a smaller version of the beet salad to the menu bc it doesn't keep well and if you're dining alone or with someone who doesn't like beets, $23 is a lot for something you can't/don't want to finish. But flavors were great.
I absolutely love this restaurant! We have visited several times for lunch and always order from the Hungarian Menu. The food is delicious and the service is great!
Can't say enough good things! The service was outstanding and the beef stew was just like my Hungarian grandmother used to make. It brought back many fond memories. We will definitely be back!
The NICEST staff (plus great sense of humor, I almost laughed all the calories away), and incredible food. Never been blown away by a beet salad before. The chicken paprikash is heavenly. Try the Hungarian wine. Very homey. Will absolutely be back!
Excellent experience! Been looking for traditional Hungarian cuisine for a while and it did not disappoint! Peter was very friendly and knowledgeable of the cuisine world. Will definitely come back again to try other foods on the menu!
First time having Hungarian food. Good stuff! Went for dinner with friends on a Thursday night. Place wasn't crowded but still recommend making a reservation - there were maybe 2 tables free when we were there. Parking on site is valet and costs $8. Street parking is cheaper / free, depending on where you find a spot. The service was very friendly and nice, but a little slow. They gave us free Hungarian crepes on the house, which was nice (and yum!). I tried the beef stew, chicken paprikas, and pork cubes. Approve all of them - pork cubes were probably my favorite. The steak cut fries were great too. Overall would recommend!
Being half Magyar, and having been raised on my mother's Hungarian cooking, it's not easy to impress me. The food is 100% legit authentic. We had the stuffed cabbage, chicken paprika and stew. All staples of a true Hungarian home, and all tasted like Gabi made it. I cannot recommend this place highly enough if you are wanting serious authentic Hungarian comfort food. Our waiter was superb, very attentive, gave great suggestions on wine, made sure we were comfortable the whole time and speaks the Magyar tongue, just adding to the awesome Hungarian experience. Just off the hook delish!

My friend found this place as a good meeting spot between LA and Northridge. So glad she found this gem. They have excellent service and the food was fantastic! We had never tried Hungarian food, the waiter was very attentive and offered great recommendations (almost all of which we got). We loved it!
Oh my goodness, if you’re considering this restaurant, just go!!! I went with a big group of my family (8 of us) the experience was incredible, the food absolutely delectable, and the whole experience wonderful!!! The owner, Pietro, was wonderful, so incredibly hospitable. He shared a lot about Hungarian culture and food. It was many of our first experiences with Hungarian food and it was absolutely delicious—we will definitely be back!!!
Over all it was a great meal, great service, the owner is superrrrrrr sweet!! We eat and ordered a lot!! The bill was not bad at all. It was nice to chat the music wasn't loud. Very familiar oriented very Europen. The schnitzel was The best, and also the Hungarian dessert (if it had home made whipped cream it would have been the best dessert I've tried Definitely will come back with my parents
Soooooo good! What a wonderful meal in a beautiful space with amazing staff. The owner told us all about the dishes and his recipes and recommended great food and wine options. The tarragon soup was absolutely amazing. That was my favorite part of the meal. We also had the pate appetizer and the white pizza. Both great options too. For the main I had the terragon chicken on home made egg noodles (like spaetzle). Great dish. Chicken was super tender and I could have licked the sauce off my plate. Fantastic meal and highly recommend it!

What a great local eatery! Excellent service, everyone was very knowledgeable about the menu. And the authentic Hungarian food options are excellent! We had a wonderful wine tasting as well. All in all, a great experience.
Came to Posto 896 with my wife and I’ll be honest, I’m pretty inexperienced with this style of Italian/Hungarian food. We asked for their signature dishes and it was the perfect move. Everything tasted like it was made with real care and not just thrown together. My wife is picky (like, genuinely hard to impress) and even she loved it. The surprise hit for both of us was the chicken liver, which I never thought I’d be saying. It was really well prepared and packed with flavor, not weird or heavy at all.
Nice small restaurant, where you can eat tasty Hungarian and Italian food. Our personal choice was Hungarian, because we wanted something unique. And it didn't disappoint. We were also told about some history of these dishes. It was entertaining. I highly recommend to try
Posto 896 hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner and we couldn't have asked for a better experience! Peter, the manager and co-owner, was a pleasure to deal with and made sure our guests had a thorough tasting tour of Hungarian cuisine. All the dishes were delicious, perfectly executed, and tasted like I remember from my childhood - brought back memories. Thank you Peter & team for an amazing evening then, and for the wonderful service and experience every time we dine here. We wish you many years of success! Cheers!
An absolute gem!!! We wandered in yesterday with no reservation and a rather large party, fully expecting a wait — instead, we were welcomed with open arms. To say they accommodated us would be an understatement. Within minutes, we were shown to a private room where the atmosphere was as inviting as the staff themselves. The service was impeccable, brimming with charm and genuine hospitality. We ordered family-style, which turned out to be the best decision — it gave us the chance to sample a variety of dishes, each one better than the last. The flavors were rich, authentic, and prepared with such care that every bite felt like a celebration. Honestly, we should have ordered even more, because not a crumb was left behind. From start to finish, the experience was unforgettable. We’ll definitely be back — not only for the outstanding Hungarian cuisine but also for the kind of service that makes you feel like family.
January 2025: Came here for dinner and tried the Hungarian food. My wife had the stuffed cabbage 🥬 and I tried the beef stew. Overall, we enjoyed the Hungarian food. My first time eating Hungarian food so it was recommended that I get the traditional beef stew. My dish was beef over the egg noodles. I would have liked for some vegetables in the stew... But it was only beef. We actually started with a salad that was lightly dressed with a vinaigrette. Was a nice combo of vegetables and we enjoyed the salad. My wife enjoyed the stuffed cabbage - it had ground beef stuffed inside. It was good. My wife said use the sour cream to balance the tang. Service was friendly. We had a nice time.

We went for Valentine’s day & they were very slammed for being such a small establishment. The owner seemed drunk & forgot to call us. Many people left because they were simply taking to long to even get their orders. In fact, it wasn’t until after those people left that they were able to get our order. Took an entire hour to get our food and, while it was good, I just don’t think Hungarian food is the type of food that needs to be made to seem “fancy” because it’s not. It’s humble comfort food. I don’t think I would be back, personally, and you’re better off making Hungarian food at home.
I recently dined at Posto 896 Italian & Hungarian Cuisine, and it offered a unique culinary experience by blending two distinct traditions: Italian and Hungarian cuisine. Located along Ventura Boulevard in Encino, the restaurant has an inviting neighborhood atmosphere that balances casual comfort with the polish of a sit-down dining experience. The interior feels warm and welcoming, making it a comfortable setting for both relaxed dinners and small gatherings. The concept of combining Italian and Hungarian flavors is unusual, but the menu manages the fusion thoughtfully by maintaining recognizable elements from both cuisines. Italian dishes on the menu emphasize fresh pasta, tomato-based sauces, and Mediterranean herbs, delivering the familiar comfort of traditional Italian cooking. The pasta preparations were well balanced, with sauces that complemented the dishes without overwhelming the ingredients. The Hungarian influence introduces richer, paprika-forward dishes that reflect Central European culinary traditions. Hungarian cuisine often relies on slow-cooked meats, aromatic spices, and hearty textures. These elements appear throughout the menu in dishes that showcase the warmth and depth typical of Hungarian home-style cooking. The use of paprika and savory sauces adds a distinctive flavor profile that contrasts nicely with the lighter Mediterranean notes of the Italian dishes. One of the strengths of the restaurant is how these two culinary traditions coexist on the menu without feeling forced. Diners can explore either cuisine individually or combine dishes across both traditions, which creates an interesting and flexible dining experience. Service during the visit was attentive and welcoming. Staff members were knowledgeable about the menu and comfortable explaining dishes for guests unfamiliar with Hungarian cuisine. The pacing of the meal felt smooth and unhurried, which allowed time to enjoy the different flavors. The atmosphere contributes positively to the overall experience. Posto 896 maintains the feel of a neighborhood restaurant where guests can return regularly for dependable food while still enjoying dishes that are somewhat uncommon in the Los Angeles dining scene. Overall, Posto 896 Italian & Hungarian Cuisine offers a distinctive and well-executed dining experience that combines Mediterranean and Central European traditions. The restaurant stands out for its balanced menu, comforting flavors, and welcoming service.
