We were a party of 3 and one take out order. The stuffed mushrooms were excellent. Two of us had the broiled sole, it was very tender and tasty. There was plenty of butter on the fish. The garden salads were 100% fresh, no wilted lettuce seen. Jenn is very pleasant and well liked as evidenced by some of the "usuals". The spaghetti and meatballs were ok. The meatballs were only lukewarm, the sauce was very dark. Appearances that the order "sat" for awhile. No free refills for beverages. Soda/Lemonade.
My friends and I have been eating here for awhile now and the food is always perfect but that's only the half of it. I recently hosted a large party at Aloy's (80+ people) and I can not say enough great things about the experience I had with Jen and her team. The food was fresh and kept full during the entire dinner portion of our party. It was delicious and of the exact quality we get on a regular night out. Drinks- which included a great selection of beer and wine- were always full and replenished throughout the entire day and the whole event space was kept spotless throughout the entire party by the staff. The entire party was fairly priced and exceeded expectations in every way as is the case every time I have gone here. All of our guests raved about the food and service provided by Jen and her staff and some of them have already made reservations to come back soon which speaks volumes to how they do things. I would recommend Aloy's for any occasion and party size and I can not thank them enough for making our special day great!
Nice decor and family atmosphere, and our waitress, Jennifer, was very friendly and attentive. I had various things on the specials menu: asiago fries, a strawberry and feta cheese salad, and the shrimp and spinach cannelloni; all of it was very good, no complaints with the food. The complimentary bread was good as well, and it seemed to be fresh out of the oven when it got to the table. It looks like they have a room in the back that they open up for peak periods and parties, and there's a nice mural on the wall in there.
Old school Italian. The pizza is the thinnest and has a great flavor. Always great paired with the antipasto salad to start. Don't sleep on this place!
Fabulous place to eat. Food is delicious. Service is great.
There aren't enough stars in this universe plus the infinite parallel universes to rate this restaurant. It was quite simply the best Italian dinner I've ever had in my life (I've been to actual Italy several times). With the possible exception of an all-you-can-eat lobster tail dinner on a nuclear submarine somewhere in the North Atlantic, it may just be the best dinner period. It certainly was one of the best dining EXPERIENCES ever. From the Old World charm and welcoming comfortable ambience of a bygone era (open since the late 1920's) to the friendly and fun staff (many from the same family) to the incomparably delicious food and cocktails, this place is a true gem. My date and I shared warm fresh baked bread, a house salad, and minestrone. She had the chicken francese entrée, I had the shrimp pomodoro. Dessert was out of the question (we'll definitely leave room next time). We also had several hand-crafted cocktails. Everything was heavenly delicious, especially the red sauce with the shrimp. Bonus: We were on our way to the Walkway Over the Hudson for an after-dark stroll under the stars. The restaurant staff encouraged us to leave our car in their parking lot, which is a short walk to the bridge entrance. Just a magical evening at a wonderful historic authentic Italian restaurant. We will definitely return as often as possible.
Had a celebration of life for my mother who had her first date with my father at this exact place The food was excellent The atmosphere was fantastic The event room was better than we could have expected great place would recommend it for any event Great staff used to take my grandmother there as well when we visited iconic place in Poughkeepsie If you've never been there you should visit the pizza's fantastic it hasn't changed in 50 years The food is fantastic The staff are fantastic five-star review all the way.
This place is the Best!!! The waitress acts like you are family. The pizza is unique and delicious. The meatballs melt in your mouth.
I loved this place and can't wait to go back one day soon. The special lobster ravioili was delicious. Very good homemade bread and pasta fagiole soup. I'm glad to have this place nearby as a possible go-to spot for future Italian dinners. Cozy atmosphere and a nice-looking bar area and booths.
My husband and I went here for our anniversary. The waitress’s there were so sweet and helpful. The food was absolutely amazing 🤩. We will for sure be back.
My family believes Alloys to be a Poughkeepsie staple Italian restaurant. The flavors of each meal bring you the sense of Grandma's Sunday cooking. It's delicious, and every bite will make you happier than the last. The atmosphere is romantic and cozy, and perfect for dates, family gatherings and/or single dining. The staff are lovely, and very courteous and helpful. The drinks taste great too whether it's a cocktail, beer, coffee, tea, or regular drink you won't be disappointed. I highly recommend you stop in and enjoy an incredible meal. The desserts are especially divine!
My family and I hosted a baby shower here recently. Jennifer and the crew were very attentive and on top of everything. We had a buffet and the food was delicious!! Everyone left happy!
My daughter and I, with my grandchildren, from upstate met my sister from Orange County with her family at the Children's Museum and after our visit, my daughter and I were looking for a family oriented place to take my grandchildren to dinner before we started back home. We found this restaurant and were very pleased. The staff was excellent, very family friendly (We had a 13 year old, 7 year old and 4 year old). The food was excellent. The prices very good. I am looking forward to going back again.
***Update #2*** Although I'm not a big fan of Aloy's pizza (see below), I ordered one of their other menu items, Chicken Francais, and it was very good. The chicken was tender and the sauce had a nice lemony taste. It came with a salad, which I ordered with with their house dressing with crumbly blue cheese, and pasta in marinara sauce - both of which were very good. We also ordered Tartufo for dessert which was also delicious. I've raised my overall rating from 3 to 4 and now recommend Aloy's. ***Update*** I've had Aloy's pizza a few times now and the taste is really starting to grow on me. Unfortunately they are extremely inconsistent with respect to the crust. The crust is always thin but not always crunchy. More often 'floppy'. Again, interesting/ good taste just very inconsistent when it comes to the crust. *** Original review Despite living in/around Poughkeepsie for 50+ years, I've never been to Aloys. I've heard their pizza is legendary, and the food is fantastic, unfortunately that was not my experience but I'm going to go back and give it another try. For now, all I can give it is 3 stars. On the plus side the staff is friendly and attentive. Although the atmosphere is nothing special and somewhat dated, there's still something appealing about it. As you come in there's a bar to the right and the dining area is to the left. Past the dining area is a large room for parties. As far as the food goes, we had their pizza. It took a VERY long time to arrive. My dining partner has had their pizza many times before and loves it. Me, not so much. It's thin crust (which I do like) and we had half cheese and half pepperoni. The cheese only pie was better as it was much less oily with a crispy crust. I could easily pick it up and eat it. The pepperoni was very oily. It also had a thin crust but was far too 'floppy' to pick up. The taste for both was just ok. There are a lot of reviews that speak highly of the pizza, so perhaps it's just me because I'm just not tasting it. The next time I go back I will try something other than the pizza and hopefully be able to rate it higher.
Updated review- It wasn't busy when we arrived. We were immediately greeted and seated. Our drinks were Sloop Juice bomb for my husband and coffee for me. There was no coffee ☕ so our server Holly made me a fresh pot, this was very much appreciated. We chose the fried zucchini sticks as appetizer, they arrived super hot with a nice portion. Main course my husband chose the chicken parm with side of pasta and minestrone to start. I chose a salad 🥗 along with eggplant rollatini and side of pasta 🍝. Everything tasted great. We brought home out dessert which consisted of Tiramisu and some chocolate pudding cake. I can't say enough good things about Holly. She always had a smile 😁 which I could tell even when she was wearing a mask. We were checked on several times during our meal. This experience was perfect. I'm glad we have this place another chance. I have it another star ⭐ as a result. Thank you Holly. Hopefully we will see you soon! The food was very good 👌 I had sausage & kale lasagne from the daily specials menu. My husband opted for chicken parmesan. Their portions looked average but we both had a hard time finishing, in this case our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. We were greeted & seated quickly and ordered just as quick. Our service was a bit disappointing. We were taken care of by two people and after finishing was asked if I would like coffee or and I did order a coffee. After waiting about 10 minutes one of our servers asked if we would like coffee or dessert and I simply said no as I had lost my patience.
This restaurant has an old time Italian feel. Our server was very friendly, but did not listen! My friend requested her pasta al dente, it wasn't. I asked for plain water with lime and was served seltzer water, two others at our table ordered seltzer but I didn't. I requested the dressing on the side of my antipasta salad but instead my salad was drenched in dressing. I didn't enjoy my meal but the others I was with said their meals were tasty.
Ordered the stuffed "jumbo" shrimp, stuffing 95% bread. Side if pasta included in $26 price. Asked if I could have a bolognes sauce and was told it would be a little extra charge. It was a whopping $7.00 extra! And if you want plain old garlic and oil, that's extra $'s also. Outrageous!!!
