Ordinarily I don't eat tomatoes, today I tried their Greek Salad and Gyro, accidentally ate the Tom thinking it was a pepper. EVERYTHING ABOUT THE LUNCH WAS EXCELLENT.. Will be returning soon!!
Love this place run by a great family I’ve been coming here since child hood and I’ve been bringing my children here since infants (now grown) we always partake of the deli and my daughters always crave their roasted chicken, rice and hummas. We live in San Antonio but try to make it at least once a year.
Droubi's is the oldest Mediterranean place in houston from the 70's. I've been a customer since middle school & I am 42 today. It's Delicious, Authentic, & ALWAYS Affordable! Over 50 years and the same gentleman that owns Droubi's still runs it with his wife. Hats off & respect to both of them.
Walking into this place was like finding another little gem of the southwest area. The owner greeted us, and he made our shwarma fresh! It was delicious, authentic, and the whole place feels like such a local vibe.
iconic. I grew up with their foods growing up on Braeswood in 80s and 90s. now live in new braunfels but when I come in to town, I'll always grab their tabouli, hummus and cheese bread to take home.
Was so excited to see that you were still open after living out of town for 10 yrs. I picked up some Kibby, grape leaves, spinach pies, meat pie, pita bread, and baklava..🥰❤️❤️❤️
The OG Middle Eastern restaurant in Houston! Fresh quality food and grocery goods. Most affordable Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food in town.
I highly recommend this store/ cafe Droubi’s 7333 Hillcroft St, Houston, TX 77081 Lamb is sooo soft and tender Gyro is the best in Houston Clean clean kitchen and small dine area Family business with very friendly couple and young girl. Support local business and let those old good local food be seen …
This was one of the original Middle Eastern grocery/Café in Houston. The older couple there today were very warm, welcoming, and personable. The food was great and they had everything we needed to eat during Lent. ! Hadn’t been here in Years! It was so nice to be back!
This place is an absolute gem! You can get a Gyro for just $5.99, and I’d argue it’s the best Gyro in Texas—maybe even in all of America. Mr. and Mrs. Droubi are wonderful, kind-hearted people who truly make this place special. It’s shocking that there isn’t a line out the door every single day for lunch. Don’t leave without grabbing some baklava and a package of their fresh bread. Baked daily, it’s still warm on the shelves by noon, and the quality is unbeatable for the price. If you haven’t been here yet, you’re missing out!
I love Droubi's! I've been shopping here for years. I love their selections of Feta cheeses. I also love the variety of Extra Virgin Olive Oil , they sell in 3 Liter tin with pour spout on top! Sure beats the small bottles at the grocery stores and what great prices! They sell nuts, dried fruits, olives, pickles and pepperoncini peppers! Freshly baked pita, white or wheat, big and small. Family owned, husband and wife are there all the time, wonderful folks!! Don't leave without getting a couple of pieces of freshly made baklava. Conveniently located at the checkout !!😉
I've been coming here for 40 years. The first time was with my Grandfather who wanted a taste of home. (Get the Shwarma!) The owner is warm, friendly, and will never point you in the wrong direction. Even though I don't live anywhere near Droubis anymore, anytime I'm in town I always stop. Their freshly baked pita is perfection and although I've tried, I just can't duplicate the za'atar bread, cheese bread, or the spinach pies. Thier ma'amoul and pistachio baklava are must haves as well. Also, don't forget to pick up some of thier house made tahini.
I found this place on Google Maps when searching for Baklava. I stopped by and my, oh my! I found a good variety of Baklava but what's best, is that it tastes amazing! I have a new favorite place!!! I should have taken more pictures!!! Oh, and my husband bought a leg of lamb and it was tenderly delicious! 🤤🤤🤤🤤
When I was a kid there was one place my mom would take me to get Mediterranean food - Droubis. I was looking for another restaurant when I saw this and quickly pulled in to the parking lot. Droubis used to have 5 locations around Houston, and many of the popular local Mediterranean restaurants were started by ex-employees. This location has seen better days, they're in the middle of an extended remodel. That said, the food was beyond delicious. When I ordered Falafel A.J. (Droubi) cooked some fresh. This was the best Falafel I've ever had, and the hummus, taboull, bread and even garlic sauce was amazingly fresh. Don't be put off by the run-down appearance, this is fantastic food served by incredibly sweet people. It's also a bakery and carry other imported items. This is a historic icon I'm glad I rediscovered.
My wife and son and I paid our "first" visit to Droubi's last remaining location. The people we met were super helpful and friendly. This place has been in business for over 40 years and after tasting the best spicy chicken shwarma wrap i've ever had, and some amazing baked goods...I can see why they've been around so long. My wife got the meatball plate with 2 sides, we all tried them...really tasty and tender. The only thing we tried that wasn't quite 5 stars was the tabouleh. Definitely get the coconut cookies and the cookie with dates in the middle...you'll thank me later. Now I need to go back and try everything else. This is a bakery, deli and grocery store. They're in the process of enlarging the space allocated for the deli. The lady working at the bakery counter said they used to have 4 locations. We will be back for more goodies.
Droubis!!!! First of all it’s been around for more than 40 yrs a Mederitarian sea inspired store its has a Deli/bakery/convenience store all in one place.. they have this delish pastries, dried fruit/nuts, spices, turkish coffee, Turkish tea, I saw fresh cheeses.. My kids perfect excuse to try fine foreign chocolate goodies!!!!! I buy my fresh home made hummus here.. I believe Its Family own and operated!!
Okay, here's a review draft based on your experience at Droubi's, aiming for a balanced but honest tone: **Droubi's Bakery & Deli: Delicious Food, Uncomfortable Atmosphere** I had mixed feelings about my visit to Droubi's. On the positive side, I was immediately greeted upon entering, which was a nice touch. I also appreciated being able to browse their selection of spices and lentils while waiting for my order, and I ended up purchasing a few items to take home. The food itself was the highlight. Both the gyro and chicken shawarma sandwiches were incredibly flavorful – the taste was truly on point. However, the experience was unfortunately overshadowed by other factors. The restaurant's cleanliness and organization left much to be desired. More concerning was the tense atmosphere. The owner seemed to be engaged in a verbal dispute with his wife, which was quite evident and made me feel uneasy. Additionally, his comment about another employee – "she has to do it or she can go home" – was unprofessional and added to the discomfort. When I requested garlic sauce, I was told the sandwiches already contained it, which was frustrating as I was willing to pay extra for more. While I understand streamlining orders, the dismissive response wasn't ideal. Overall, while the food was undeniably delicious, the lack of cleanliness and the uncomfortable atmosphere created by the owner's behavior made for a negative experience. Sadly, I won't be returning.
