Matthew is the best bartender I’ve ever had. Such a fun spirit every time I get to go. Great personality and service
I love this place . I have a little weiner dog, Duke Daniel's. He's the luv of my life but every now and again a mom needs a break so when i do we stroll on over to the patio at JRs . I get a great frozen margarita while Duke gets loved on by a great group of guys. Gotta luv a frozen margarita while your weiner gets some good side loving.
Love coming seeing my regular bartenders!!! Uri and angel will give you the best service
Wednesday steak night is great! They have multiple rooms to sit and have drinks! Plus pool tables and a big open patio with couches.
JRs is a really great place to hang out and chill, whether to start the evening, end the evening, or spend the whole evening. There's different spaces and multiple bars within the establishment each with its own vibe. Matt is my favorite bartender. He's personable and pours a good drink. The back bar and the patio are both really chill areas to hang out and the karaoke bar is soo much fun. Bathroom stalls, however, could use some TLC.
OMG the food here is great!!! Had street tacos and elotes. Everything was sooooo good! Found out about this place through word of mouth and ubered to it. Was well worth it! Late night taco truck. Expect a little bit of a wait, because there will be a line. Will definitely be going here again!
Been coming to this bar for a while now and lately it has been so difficult to get a drink. I understand when it can get busy and the bartenders can be overwhelmed with a crowd, but i won’t be able to get any service because the bartender would be occupied on their phone. So happy that there is more than one bar. Went to the back bar and was immediately greeted by Matthew. My friends and I were able to have a drink in hand and great service. Will be coming back with more friends as long as Matthew is there to serve us.
My favorite bar in Montrose. Totally chill
Would define recommend to anyone looking for a bar! The bartender Mary is amazing!
What a night! Met up with some friends here and the mood was lively and festive. I little wait in drinks but that’s to be expected on a busy Saturday night. All in all a cool spot.
This has been a go-to spot for me and my friends for years now. I love JRs! the drinks are affordable, well made and the music is a vibe. Karaoke is always fun too!
Great service and great music. Bartender Mary is the best, love her!!
Milo, you're a gem. Thank you for always making us feel welcomed.
JR’s is my place to come after a long work day. Brian is such a sweetheart. I love how he always remembers my drink order. My friends really enjoy the SKKY special on Tuesday . I wish he was always here. Definitely check out JRs for a cute and tasty drink.
Im straight and I frequent this place. Lots of fun, good vibes, good karaoke, and strong drinks
Great time. Strong drinks. Shout out to Matt. I can always count on a quick drinks and a fun conversation
Great time for NYE! Had a lot of fun party stuff to pass out that def increased the vibes of the whole area
The bar is small but its entertaining and has a good vibe
We had a GREAT first time experience on a Sunday night. Our bartender was welcoming and on point (I do forget his name but he was working the first bar as soon as you walk in) his hospitality was exceptional. Thank you indeed!! The space itself was killer and varied, different rooms offering different experiences, Karaoke, Drag Show et al......
I did not get any food while visiting this establishment, but I was loving the atmosphere. The staff was friendly and everyone in attendance was just there to have a good time. No drama, no crazy arguments, or dangerously drunk people ruining it for others. I would certainly recommend this location for the vibes and wonderful Pride Community. The karaoke was also a wonderful touch. Very much enjoyed my evening.
Mary is super attentive and makes me feel welcomed with her service. She doesn’t just serve drinks, she gives battening an elite experience
We didn’t try their food but the drinks and the vibe are A+++. Our bartender Joshua was truly a rockstar! He was so personable, friendly, and attentive. It’s so rare to have a bartender that meet all the expectations! We’ll definitely come back.
Matthew Murphy goes out of his way to make sure I am safe and taken care of. I honestly have never felt more safe with someone than him. He is fun and witty, yet also knows how to be sarcastic in a cute way with the best of them. My honest favorite bartender in montrose.
Mary is the sweetest bartender I've ever met. She's awesome..! She's the reason I come to Jr's
Great environment, good drinks, and Matt M is a fantastic bartender!
JR has always been the place to go in Montrose. It hasn’t vibe atmosphere of the lounge but yet karaoke and dance night. It is an average place for the average Joe goes for a drink on a Tuesday or date night on a Saturday. I suggest the back bar as it’s outside and very peaceful during the summer months, but can be very cold during the winter months so be careful. It is open every day 18 hours a day.
This is my go to bar in Houston for drinks and always have a good time. The prices, the bartenders, the atmosphere, I really cannot complain. We have been going to this bar for quite sometime but we have our go to bartender, Matthew, that is a MUST that we order from. He always makes us laugh and makes sure we are having a good time anytime we come! We will definitely keep returning!
I love JR'S! Sterling is one of the most modest and caring person there. He checked on me consistently to make sure I was okay. Gave great customer service. Definitely would recommend anyone to get a drink from him. Thank you guys for hiring the best bartenders at JRs.
Another favorite of mine next door and next on the list to Southbeach. It has something for every kind of patron and love going there. If you want an excitement, entertainment and still be able to relax with a drink in a fun atmosphere all at the same club JR’s is your place!
Soany sexy men. The bartenders are so awesome. The male scenery is eye candy 😋! Love coming when I escape my Austin office and being in Washington DC. Will always come back for more man action!!
It’s a very good Bar with amazing Karaoke , great cocktails, very good Service.. Bartender Luis and awesome atmosphere.
Live this bar. They have some of the best bartenders. Sterling is one of them. He makes great drinks and is a joy to chat with. He and the other bartenders are some of the reasons to come out. They have great kareoke and drag nights too.
Oh wow!!! Had a blast tonight with Matt Murphy!! This bar still has all of its glory!! Great vibe. And strong drinks!! Love all the service.
JR’s is hands down the best spot for drinks in Montrose. Spacious bar with great cocktails and good vibes. The bar staff was incredible too, and Matt took excellent care of us. We’ll definitely be back!
JR’s is one of my favorite bars to stop at for some drinks from my favorite bartender Mary. Mary service is amazing and she always has a smile on her face.
Ruben and Milo best team at the bar. Ruben needs to be a bartender asap. They are the only reason we came back.
Experienced JR’s for the first time last weekend and I was missing out. Would always go to South Beach but pre-gaming at JR’s is a game changer. The spacious, NOLA style courtyard had plenty of tables, cabanas and a nearby bar for seating. Inside they had kareoke, pool, arcade games and more bar seating. Drinks were delicious, great prices on vodka shots and super friendly staff. Bathrooms are clean and staff are always clearing tables of trash and glasses which makes it more inviting for new guests. Will definitely start our nights out at JR’s then walk over to South Beach to finish it. Best gay bar in Houston! If you’re hungry-Nearby taco truck sells affordable & delicious food for as low as $2/taco.
Great gay bar! Don’t know a lot of folks there yet but the DJs & bar staff are all super nice folks! On that note, shout out to El, Phoebe and Kara! ❤️
great bar. cheap beers and Milo the bartender was great. spent 2.5 hours chatting with him. The people were pretty friendly and I enjoyed the company. Will definitely come back.
Amazing experience due to Ruben . He went out of his way to help us . Great service and amazing atmosphere. Ruben needs to be a bartender .
I thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of this bar. The architecture was equally impressive. The staff was friendly, and the liquid marijuana cocktail was excellent.
Great place to grab a drink and unwind. The many different rooms to suit your comfort. My fave is the karaoke and of course the patio. Staff is all very friendly and makes you feel welcomed. I recently learned of steak night so I will definitely be by to try this out
I come here regularly and the only reason is one name Matthew he is the best bartender here in my opinion. He is what I love in a bartender, personable and a really beautiful man. You can’t help but love him. The best of the bar
Loveeee the different vibes in this bar! This was the first bar i visited in Montrose and I loved every bit from the patio, to the karaoke, to the pool hall and dancers upstairs! Music was great when I went and everyone here is so fun and friendly.
Stopped by JR’s Bar on Friday night and Mary absolutely crushed it behind the bar. The place was buzzing, but she kept up with the rush like a pro—fast, friendly, and always paying attention to details. Her energy set the tone for the night, and the cocktails she made were some of the best I’ve had there. Mary isn’t just pouring drinks; she’s creating a great atmosphere. If you want top-notch service on a busy night, she’s the one to look for. 🍹
I came into JR’s Bar on Friday night and Mary was the bartender—she made the whole experience top notch. Even with the place packed, she was quick, super friendly, and mixed some of the best drinks I’ve had there. She really kept the vibe fun and made sure everyone was taken care of. If you’re heading to JR’s on a busy night, ask for Mary—you’ll be in good hands! 🍹✨
I love coming to this bar. It’s always such a fun time! We come for karaoke with Pheobe! She’s so nice and extremely talented. I ALSO adore Mary behind the bar, she really cares about people and I love chatting with her!
Awesome place to drink and have a great time either by yourself or with friends. The drinks are strong and affordable. The frozen house margaritas are amazing. The pitchers are great to share or just drink it on your own. There is karaoke as well. Definitely recommend if you wanna drink on a budget and have a great time.
The most fun time I’ve ever had at a bar!! The music was the best. Our bartender Matthew took such good care of us w all of our difficult requests and was so nice about it. Will be back!
✨ Five stars for JR’s Bar & Grill—and a bonus star for Sterling! ✨ My friends and I (a group of six) had the absolute best time here! The atmosphere at JR’s is effortlessly inviting—super warm, energetic, and just fun all around. If you love the chill, social vibe of places like Axelrad, you’ll definitely love JR’s—it’s a similar energy but with its own unique flavor. No cover to get in (huge plus!) and plenty of seating inside and out—which we quickly realized is so key when you’re out with friends. The next spot we went to had no seating and we stood for over an hour, so JR’s earned our loyalty right there. And let me just say—Sterling, our bartender, was phenomenal. I ordered a non-frozen piña colada (first time trying it that way!) and it was incredible. Not only did I love it, but every single one of my friends tried it and agreed—it was next-level delicious. Sterling made us feel taken care of without ever being overbearing. Just great energy and service all around. We even met some sweet folks—shoutout to Mauricio and the group we vibed with! The crowd JR’s attracts is social, kind, and fun—zero pretension, all good vibes. Safe to say… we’ll definitely be back. 💃🏽🍹
I haven't been back to JR'S in so long! Brings back old memories. Decided to come check it out last minute with my spouse & another couple for fun. Took a long time to get our drink ordered. Had a great time watching people go up and sing their favorite songs.
Bartenders are horrible. They’re slow with their job. They don’t pay you attention. You’ll stand there staring at them while they’re on the phone. They have attitude when you order drinks. The bar can be full of people waiting and the bartenders will get up and do karaoke while people are waiting for their drinks Very unprofessional. service needs a huge improvement or new bartenders who are about their money it is very true that bartenders will stand there and have full-blown conversations while you’re waiting to order. Sometimes they ignore you while you’re standing there. Don’t even acknowledge that you’re there. Don’t Tell you one minute one second they just glance at you and walk away this has happened to me many times at this bar. It’s unfortunate because if service was better. I’m sure they would make better money. They really need a overhaul or a serious chat with their bartenders. I cannot tell you how many times I have to go bar to bar inside the place and each bartender isn’t doing their job. They’re either on their phone having a conversation or glance at you and don’t even come over to acknowledge you very very poor service. I would recommend a complete overhaul new bartenders who are about their money just being honest other than that great atmosphere people are cool as hell and I do like the bar just the service sucks.
If it weren't for the bar staff this place would be awesome. The level of arrogance is stunning and I assume based on the rest of the comments management seems unable to insist on a base level of respect for customers. The outside barman was either high drunk or both. The middle barman was rude to me when I asked if I could put my drink on my tab as I have an open account at the main bar. Apparently each bar is a separate entity. Bar staff seem very important in their own estime. See dictionary definition of prig. People are here to enjoy themselves not tap dance around the current mood of a barman. Bar service aside it is a really nice bar and well worth a visit.
Alright, I have very conflicting emotions regarding this bar because my friends and I came here for my birthday and the atmosphere was amazing but the service was quite possibly the most atrocious service I have ever had in my life. Watching the karaoke was so much fun and the patrons, for the most part, were very lovely. I saw for the most part because a heavily inebriated man grabbed me several times, would not let me leave the situation and in general was making me feel uncomfortable and unsafe. I point blank asked one of the workers behind the bar (not sure if he was a bartender or a bouncer) in the outside area for his assistance and he stared at me, said something along the lines of “I don’t know what you’re saying” and walked away. The irony of being caught in an uncomfortable situation with an extremely intoxicated man is that prior to this altercation, I had been denied (very rudely) a drink by one of the bartenders inside after only having one angry orchard and a green tea shot. Mind you, this was the first bar we went to and if I had known that it was gonna be hard to get a drink, I probably would have pregamed. Now, I don’t know about you but I don’t think that’s enough to get a flea drunk, let alone inebriated to the point of getting cut off. Just seems like that would just make the bar lose money. But after reading a few reviews, apparently that seems to be a common theme with this particular bartender. Kinda wish the guy that assaulted me had been going to that bartender instead, cause at least then it never would have happened. Security was great and prompt once notified of the altercation and the manager was very kind and proactive regarding the situation and banned the guy. Overall, I would come here again because the vibes were great and I was having a very good time up until that. Next time I just won’t go to that bartender, I believe his name is Matt but I could be wrong, and stick close to my friends so I don’t get singled out by overly handsy drunk men. Or maybe just pregame and go for the karaoke. I took a screenshot of another individual’s review regarding the bartender and have attached it.
It was good the first time I went. Giving it a lower rating because they wouldn’t take my friends temporary paper id the dmv gave him. Which was crazy. If the airport accepts it why can’t they
I used to love JRs and most of the staff is great all but one bartender that works in the karaoke room and cannot handle his job... We watched him repeatedly get into it with customers and make racial remarks at my member of my party after he ignored serving them multiple times.
I love JR’s and I hate to do this but one of the bartenders on Friday night near the inside entrance bar had a very nasty/ugly personality. He was a brown latino looking guy, me and my friend noticed that he was working on some receipts so we were waiting for him to let us know when we could order. He started making sassy faces at us and we asked him if we could order. My friend asked him if she could have something sweet with rum and this man straight up told her that he wasn’t a mixologist and only knew how to make two drinks. Mind you we know how to take a joke but he said it with a straight face and an ugly tone, as if we were asking for free drinks or something. Plus isn’t your job to know how to make more than 2 drinks? Idk but giving unnecessary extra energy for nothing!! So we just went to the next bartender who was in the same bar station as the other guy and now, his customer service was so much better 🫶🏼
I wasn't told about the automatic 20% gratuity because there was 7 of us and when I got the bill it was asking or optioning 3% 5% or 7% gratuity which was confusing. I opted for 7% and learned when I got home of the other 20% so basically I left them a 27% tip on a $200 tab. The food was very forgettable and the service was average. Decent place to watch the football games but probably would have been better off going to Buffalo Wild Wings which would have cost much less. Pizza was salty and flavorless.. Not sure how that happens.
They got two guys a man the door to check IDs when you go to this bar. a short young looking black guy and overweight heavy set white guy that are extremely rude towards transgender and drag queens... Of course the ones that are not doing the show... 😂 The heavy said white guy told me I was banned from the bar but I haven't been there in over 5 years cuz I've been out of town for work I told him he was mistaking and to get the manager. The manager says I wasn't barred and he didn't know what the bouncer was talking about.... This was clearly discrimination towards a transgender person in the community. I usually have problems getting into this bar depending on who is at the front door checking IDs. The crazy part of body is they do drag shows and make money off us transgender and drag queens but when you show up to be a customer the door people treat you very rude. As far as the bartenders they have always been very nice and professional and friendly.... So that's kind of strange. The bar is beautiful with the outside New Orleans look and the drinks are reasonable and you can't have a good time there you just have to get through the front security first. They need to hire some better door people because I've seen a lot of people walk away because of that short young black kid and that heavy set older guy.
Inattentive bartenders. More interested in their devices than customers
The staff is nice. I suppose that one nice thing about this place is that you can take your mom there. She will worry about your gay social life much less. It is as straight-friendly a bar as one could ever find. If you choose to visit, stop by Macy's for some cruise wear. The boat kind of cruise, not the gay kind. This isn't a place to meet bohemians or artists. There's nothing wrong with that, but it isn't my style.
The overwhelming stench of weed from the minute you walk in the door . Not the old Jrs crowd anymore. Customer service is horrible. The crowd is not very diverse.
Service from the Bartenders outside and near the Karaoke stand are horrible. You've got a full house and a line of people waiting and the bartender is up on stage doing Karaoke. Like they need to be serving customers, not standing away from the bar. It doesn't help they are rude and can't keep track of who has what tab. Like I ask for a drink and the guy says okay and then proceeds to make me wait 10 minutes for a bottle beer and the cooler was RIGHT by him. And he looked at me and kept making drinks for other people. And the Karaoke is not so great either. The list of songs is very limited, and when you go up to sing? The music is too low so you're singing louder than the song or the music is louder than your voice. There's other issues I could list but to cut to the chase? I don't recommend coming here. Find another bar.
Been coming here for over 10 years. The bar used to be more well managed before the pandemic, as soon as we were able to go back into bars I jumped out of my comfy couch and got back to JRs to support my local businesses and entertainers. Based on how dirty and grimy it’s gotten lately it seems as if management has let it go downhill. It never used to smell now I smell the dirty bathrooms in the karaoke bar and the back bar, the only place that it might not smell is the first bar. There used to not be napkins all over the bar floor now it’s inevitable to walk anywhere and see napkins all over the floors. This bar used to be my starting bar to bar hop and my restroom break bar because the restrooms were always nicely kept, now that is long gone, like I said they always smell and the soaps are never filled up. On a positive note drinks are reasonably priced compared to other bars but it makes me wonder if my cup is properly clean. Even on its busiest weekend (Halloween weekend) the bar was never that dirty and grimy.
The bartender in the outside bar the Christmas Eve was really rude, Looking with a bad face and ironic or sarcastic attitude. He shouldn't serve the public, the rest of the staff is 5 star.
I enjoy the atmosphere at this bar. Great drinks and people. However, I’ve had several negative interactions with the Latino bartender who wears an earring. On multiple occasions, he has made snarky comments toward my friends and me. I completely understand that everyone can have an off day, but this has happened often enough to feel like a pattern rather than a one time issue. Each time, we’ve approached him respectfully. As a woman, some of these interactions have come across with an undertone that feels dismissive and lowkey misogynistic. I do enjoy the bar overall, and I’d love to continue coming in besides this.
I love jrs and it’s always a good place to go for karaoke and a good time with friends. The bartenders are usually pretty good. They also have dancers too if you’re into that. And male dancers on mondays but be warned they aren’t very friendly unless you’re Latino/hispanic. If you want proof just come there and see for yourself they only mingle with a certain crowd all night long. But other than that it’s a great bar!
I will give you 5 stars when you switch DJs. DJ Zitro was great last weekend. Today is kinda boring and repetitive. Some Bartenders are just not very customer service friendly
This Bartender at JRS was serving his friends. By the time he got to me he was acting like he couldn’t serve me. I def noticed the difference. Wack gay bar !!!
Tonight is our first time there and it was Crazy to say the least! I went to bartender named Matt and ordered a Mango margarita. He tells me I heard you, with an attitude ,so I said ok. He proceeded to ask my husband what he wants to drink and he said no I’m ok. So he started to make drink and gives it to my husband. I ask him hey is this the mango margarita, he kept talking to my husband so I ask him again and he immediately says you’re cut off. I look at my husband he says he must be drunk let’s just go. So we leave. He follows us ask us to leave and went outside to make scene, he was loud and disrespectful. At this point even the security guard was like “Matt go inside”. He was definitely on something or drunk at 10pm so we left. Definitely would not recommend this place let alone this bartender named Matt!
I absolutely love this place but last night I went and encountered a bartender a short Hispanic male that had tattoos that caused a whole scene in the bar that was not necessary . I didn’t have any drinks at all and was acting accordingly he made it weird trying to force me to drink water then he threw my drink out and proceeded to yell at me about being over served when I had be been there for 10 minutes. This truly made me uncomfortable to where I had to leave . This left a bad taste in my mouth about this place .
I called several times and asked what time karaoke stops. I was told 2am. I pulled up at 12:30 and was told they were not taking anymore signups. Also asked if it was ok for a straight individual to come in and was told yassss. Drove from Burke rd and beltway 8 to come here and to be told I could not sign up. Which was the whole point of me calling before I drove that far. I love karaoke and it doesn’t matter where I sing. Will not waste my time or gas again. Being that I’m not in the community my comment won’t mean anything. I honestly thing that because I’m straight is the reason I was not able to sing 🤷🏽♀️
Bartender Christina should be fired. She was quite honestly the worst bartender I’ve ever come across. Not only was she extremely slow, she was rude. Sat patiently at the bar waiting for her to take my order. Watched her and her friends take two rounds of shots, made her friend a drink, got them water bottles everything with a PACKED BAR in front of her. She would take one order then go back to them. Every time someone complained she yelled there’s other bartenders. Do your job first, entertain your friends later. If bartending is too overwhelming, pick something else 🙃
One of the bartenders is so RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL. Me and my brother and a friend were waiting to get served at the bar, as we were waiting he was having a full blown conversation with two other guys and the bartender didn’t even acknowledge that we were standing there, it seems like he don’t have no life and using his time at the bar to vent to customers when he should be serving drinks and move along to the next customers, it was no reason he should be venting and taking out his cell phone to show pictures to customers when you have line of people. I waited for 3 min after he got done making drinks he still was going on and on with the guys and I just politely said, excuse me I like to order a drink and boom he just went off and got the cops and they told us to leave. He came from behind the bar and got in me and my brother face and called us out our names, he was saying all kinds of rude stuff to us. He was a white guy with dark hair, and his bar is located by the side door close the patio in the inside. Don’t go here it’s a rude establishment!!!! I hate to say, but it was giving racist vibes the White cops were on his side and everything we told them they didn’t believe, they were on his side.
The bartenders outside do terrible service. I waited for 30 minutes being respectful of the bartender to let them pick the clientele as I know a lot of good bartenders keep track of their line. My bartender was not good, he asked me for my drink order 3 times over the 30 minutes I was there and never got me the drinks. It seems important to note that he served everyone but me and the others who were POCs. Then he took my drinks away at the end. Anyways, terrible service.
I used to really like this place and visit every night I went out, but I’ll no longer be coming back. First of all, the bartender said my friend didn’t tip him, event though he tipped $10.00 on a $50.00 tab. So then when two of us from the group asked for water, he said “Your friend didn’t tip me so that’s $2.25 for water.” My friend was really drunk and needed to sober up, so we bought it for him anyway. Then, they removed my name from the karaoke list after I waited in the queue for thirty minutes. When I asked the hostess what happened, she was dismissive and accused me of telling her that she didn’t know what she was doing, when I absolutely never said that. But she had plenty of time to put herself and the other hostess on the list and get on stage to sing. Overall, just a really upsetting experience.
Bleh, I don't even care to go in to detail but waited at the bar for a solid 15 minutes, was never even acknowledged or waved at. Place was busy but that's no excuse to ignore your patrons completely. 1 of us headed to a back bar area to try their luck while myself and other amigo waited at the main bar... he returned with drink... we still had yet to be helped in anyway so we left. I also did not see any food around for a place advertising to be a Bar & GRILL. 🤷♂️
We’re regulars at this place for many years. Today the bartender controlling the music, thought that we were in a nightclub. Impossible to talk, even with the other bartender. I went and asked the guy to lower the volume and he just laughed at me. His name is Chad, horrible bartender, don’t know why this guy is working there. We can’t talk, so we just go somewhere else.
No backpacks allowed. Too bad. It was the bartender that told me this. If they had an issue with my bag/backpack, the doorman could have stopped me from entering. That's what he's there for. But in any case, it's a pretty annoying rule. They could at least provide a coat/bag check if they want to be fancy about it. I just went around the other friendlier gay spots. In London and other parts of the world, some bars who have doormen look into bags for "illegal" items like drinks and weapons. If you alienate people with bags, it just means you don't welcome tourists who don't have cars to leave their stuff in. That's fine, it looks like it's just a local bar.
A group of us came in for a drink last night around 1:30 AM. We went to the bar in the back by the karaoke. My friend recognized the bartender we were waiting to order from and told me, "This guy wouldn't serve me the last 4 times I came in." I figured my friend must have been too inebriated those 4 times and the bartender rightly decided he shouldn't be served any more drinks. But when my girlfriend tried to order drinks, the bartender refused to serve her. He said we could order from another bartender. We were all very confused by his rudeness and his refusal to serve us. We weren't falling over ourselves stumbling and swaying, being messy or loud, or anything like that; we walked in like every other patron in the bar who had had a few drinks that night. Anyway, it soon became clear why we were refused service. The bartender's friend was sitting at the bar; as soon as the bartender refused to serve us, he walked around the bar to go sit and chat with his friend. All good if you'd rather visit with your friend rather than work. I get it; work can suck sometimes. But respect should be the default way you treat people, customers included. The bartender is a short guy with short dark hair; he was wearing a sleeveless black shirt and working the back bar by the karaoke, on the side of the bar closest to the front door. We went next door and got served with no problem.
Asked the Patio Bartender for a "bottled water" got served a "gin & tonic". I wasn't the only person this Bartender messed up drink orders on. Lesson learned. Disappointed in JRs Mgmt.
One of the bouncers was very disrespectful and ableist to my partner who has GBS. He was wearing his leg braces and clearly struggles with using his hands but the bouncer kept on asking if he was drunk and what was wrong with him. This is very inappropriate and we will be telling all our friends not to go here ever again.
Sterling the bartender is horrible . Horrible client experience, horrible at making drinks. When speaking to the manager the stated they wanted him out and I hopes that happens soon because the place would be better In my opinion without a person like that .
The bartenders were decent but the one on the left side of the bar in front of the kareoke bar on Friday night with a black cap was so rude, mad, and horrible energy. He was not even busy. When ordering the bartender was pretty impatient and short with us—barely gave us a chance to order before moving on. The staff should focus on being more respectful and professional with guests.
Unfriendly bartenders in a dark, dusty, oversized space. Drinks were strong but served with an air of boredom and contempt.
Had a horrible experience with a bartender at the smaller bar near the outside doors the other night. He made fun of my appearance several times, to my face, as well as my drink when I ordered it. He seemed inebriated and only tried to apologize after he handed the payment slip, and only because he realized how much he stepped out of line. Truly never experienced such disrespect at a bar. I don't know if he was just under the influence, but he was slow, rude and truly so unpleasant. I love the karaoke, but the bartending service was so poor it makes the whole experience bad. He would talk to the other gay men near us, but kept giving my friends and I looks, we were the only POC near the bar at the time. I have read other reviews mentioning potentially racist bartenders, which is a shame. Edit: after I emailed them, the establishment told me they had "looked into and took action against the bartender", this place has said that to basically every negative review, yet nothing seems to change. We ended up with he same bartender last weekend, luckily he didn't openly insult us, but he was still acting like he was on some drug, erratic, rude, and eyes is like he's never seen a human in his life. I don't know what they feed the bartenders here but it's toxic apparently.
I never leave negative reviews, but I feel this is important for the owners to be aware of. I’ve always enjoyed this bar and have never had an issue until last night. Unfortunately, my experience with one of the bartenders was extremely unpleasant. His behavior was unprofessional and disrespectful, including the use of profanity directed at me. More concerning, some of his remarks were racially inappropriate. This conduct was completely unacceptable. I regret that I did not get his name, but I feel compelled to speak up and consider taking further action. I can’t help but wonder how many other individuals may have experienced similar treatment. I won’t be returning. In addition, threatened to use physical force towards me, my friends nearby witnessed the encounter.
... my first visit to the city in my first drink at the bar the bartende. it was very rude to use words very out of place I have barios witness of his bad behavior a drag that was next to me and two vaillaries that could also see his bad behavior for the simple fact of changing bars. the take more than 20 minutes preparing a drink. and we changed waiter and he went to the other place or offended us. it was a very very very bad experience since it was my first time in this place and of visit in Housto The guy in the picture is the one who had the bad attitude all the rest this excellent very good drink a very good show
The bartender was rude to my lesbian friend and I was not having it. Hoping management will take care of the issue and also I will not be “blacklisted” in the end of it as the day was this was very unexpected from a welcoming community.
BARTENDER INSULTED ME After being straight up ignored at the bar in-front of the karaoke my partner and I went to the other bar before the patio. Not only did he come onto my partner WHOM I WAS CLEARLY WITH he also insulted me and said in confidence to my partner. Im never coming back here, which is such a shame because i thought as a woman of color this would be the one place i would be treated with respect by the staff.
My husband and I have been visiting this landmark establishment for many years and have seen many bartenders come and go. In this time never have we had such a disgusting and disrespectful experience with any staff but that all changed this past Friday. The poor excuse of a bartender named Angel (we were told) serving in the karaoke bar was so rude and disrespectful and should not be allowed to represent this iconic and respected staple in our community. This individual has no sense of customer service nor the capacity to work in such a fast pace environment based on his behavior. When we brought this to the attention of management it seemed that they knew who we were speaking of already giving me the conclusion that this is not the first complaint on Angel. I only hope that this person gets the needed attitude adjustment and training to help his career in this customer service industry.
i’ve been coming here for almost 15 years and this is the first time I’m absolutely disgusted by JR’s handling of an aggressive and drugged out patron. The whole experience was disappointing to say the least. This man was “saving” a chair for 15+ mins and I wanted to sit down. When I grabbed it, he snatched it with his leg and began a barrage of insults, called me out my name, called me the b word, you name it. I had a friend get security and security failed to remove the patron, even after he threatened to hurt me. This is disappointing as a queer woman. This is supposed to be a safe space for gay and lesbian patrons and here was a man threatening me for trying to sit in his “wife’s seat.” JR’s is supposed to be a fun space but I don’t know if it’s safe for women anymore. This situation was extremely blown out of proportion and security failed to protect the people JR claims to serve. What a shame. I don’t know if I’ll be back for a while. Definitely not on a night where security prioritizes a man’s feelings over a woman who simply wanted to sit down.
