This is a go to favorite when I'm in town visiting friends. The service is always attentive. I have never had a bad dish. The fajitas are full of flavor. The lengua dish is my favorite. Don't get me started on the margaritas! Excellent balance of tequila, sweet & tart flavor.
Always has great food and so many choices. Thank you Maria for your consistent great customer service.
Los Vaqueros is a great place, the staff is friendly, the food is great, tastes really good, big portions 😅 I always needed to bring home my leftover. Prices are friendly and a good number of cocktails you can choose from.
Stopped by here for lunch today. We were greeted as we entered. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. We were seated right away. Our server was attentive and friendly. When our order arrived, it was hot and super delicious. The rice was my favorite. This is authentic Mexican food. They even had complimentary pastries and hot chocolate. We will definitely be going back. This is the hidden gem of Kyle!
This place is very UNDERRATED! Fantastic Mexican food equivalent or better to the Valley, and that HOT SAUCE IS FIRE. You have to request it but it’s delicious me and the family had a great breakfast we are grateful.
Went en route to Driftwood and grabbed breakfast tacos. 2 bacon eggs and cheese on flour & 1 chorizo and egg. Definitely something to write home about. Finished field job pushed through lunch and had dinner on ride back to Elgin. Spicy green enchiladas 2 chicken and 1 cheese with charro beans. Definitely hit the spot...homemade corn fried just right. Will definitely tell my friends and family about this place. Been open 8 years so far the cashier said.
Food was good. Chile relleno was delicious. Service was quick and very polite. Fairly priced. We'll be back!.
Have been for breakfast with husband and even breakfast dates with friends. Food is always so fresh and delicious. Dinner plates are delicious as well as there margaritas. Highly recommend
Overall the place is really good, food is amazingly good. Service was over the roof and atmosphere is awesome!! Overall would recommend it!
We've gone twice now. The food didn't disappoint either service and the margs (my fav is the Cucumber marg). The wait staff is so attentive. It's tex mex definitely done right. Our food was flavorful.
Had not been in several years after a couple of bad experiences. Recently went back for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Food was really good. Flour tortillas were some of the best I've had, and service was quick and gracious. Will come back.
Great food, great drinks, great service. Our go to spot for happy hour pretty much every Friday.
Great atmosphere. Great food. Exceptional service. This is my third time coming. I will keep coming back for sure.
Great service and drinks were excellent!
Great little Tex-Mex place. Chips and queso are outstanding.
Just yes. Wow!!! What a pleasant surprise. We have had not the best dining experiences in Kyle so our expectations were low.. but we were so satisfied. From the tasty fresh and spirit forward drinks to the best enchiladas!!! We will definitely be back and have found our go to spot for Mexican food.
Love this place! They greet you like a regular, and have awesome food, drinks, and service. Along with choices of indoor or patio seating and good music.
Service was phenomenal! My coffee was refilled several times. We were remembered by the staff during our stay, and they were quick to get our food out even with a lot of big tables. Environment was great, only one tv is great (we're not a fan of multiple screens). Bonus that they could serve us faster than IHOP on mothers day.
We went here for dinner on a Wednesday evening during Spring Break. Even though it was busy, we were seated and served quickly. Food was fresh and fast. We ordered guacamole and chips as a starter and the guac was amazing and fresh. The salsa and tortilla chips were delicious as well. Pictured is the burrito and Gordita plates.
This place was great for lunch time during the week . The fajita nachos were great
From the outside, this restaurant doesn’t exactly scream “fine dining”—it’s unassuming, maybe even a little rough around the edges. But the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the warm sounds of Selena, a cozy and inviting atmosphere, and a space that just feels like home. The patio has plenty of seating, perfect for a laid-back meal, and the bar looks like the ideal weekend hangout spot. I brought my mom here, and she absolutely adored it. The real star of the experience? Marisol, a staff member who radiated pure sunshine. She was incredibly sweet to both my mom and my toddler, making us feel genuinely welcome. And the food? Incredible. If you’re on the hunt for authentic Mexican cuisine—especially a morning barbacoa taco that hits just right—this is the place to be!
Great food and great service! If you’re craving Mexican food, THIS IS THE PLACE!
Great Mexican food! Never have had a bad meal or bad service. It gets busy, but if it's busy then it has to be good. The best times I've found are early in the morning before the afternoon lunch rush or a late dinner if you'd like to not wait.
Food was good. Service 4 of 5. Need faster drink refills
I love going to Los Vaqueros. Typically I do a Kyle special with some additional meat but I've had their tacos and chicken fried steak and it has always been great. It can get busy at times but we have never had issues going for brunch on the weekend and sitting outside. Overall, a nice local business to support.
What a gem! We tried it out and had to go back two days later because we loved it so much. Both times, we were impressed by the food and the friendly service. Definitely worth checking out! My wife loves the corn tortillas since she’s gluten sensitive — they taste homemade. Not sure if they’re truly gluten free, but definitely worth it!
We have been looking for a good Tex Mex since are fairly new to San Marcos and I had chicken enchiladas and my total overall experience was excellent and my wife loved it also.
The food and service is always great here. We moved away earlier this year, but were able to go when we visited family in the area.
This is our third visit back … We are not locals but when we come to Kyle we have eaten here each time. We have always had a positive experience. We have been greeted at the door and had the option to sit inside or out on the covered patio. Our waitress this time was Isis. She was helpful, with a happy heart. She checked on us often, to see if we needed anything. The food once again was delivered while still warm, large portions, delicious and I feel homemade. (We have ordered something different each time and never disappointed) I had the grilled chicken with fresh grilled onion, tomatoes, jalapeños covered in Monterey Jack cheese.m… with broccoli and rice. (See pic) My mom enjoyed the breaded chili relleno with shredded chicken, rice and beans and some extra guacamole. My husband had a taco, an enchilada, and a chalupa with rice and beans. It was hard to eat it all especially after the wonderful chips and salsa served. You know it is good when we plan on going again!
I had gotten the green chicken enchiladas. When I say I have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant. I never knew I'd find it today. Amazing food quick and quality controlled Temps on point. Servers fast and persistent always checking up on you. By far best Mexican restaurant I've been to in 50 mi radius! Great portion sizes!!! I will be comming back and bringing lots of people
It was a great time with amazing food! One of the highlights of visiting Texas and the best food place I tried.
Really good food. Had the pastor plate recently, which had a lot of flavor and looked great as well! However, all of their tacos are really good. There were even 3 salsas to choose from, if you ask. I know people say it takes a while for service, but the workers seemed to be on top of things considering. They are even fluently bilingual, so that helps me to bring friends of both languages! The place itself was really clean and well decorated, had a nice feel to it. Now side note, I also had a piña colada. It didn't seem to be blended completely, so you had some sips being super sweet and others being super alcoholic, and the straw kept on getting stuck with ice chunks. Really only thing that was iffy. Highly suggest eating here!
I recently tried the pastor plate, and it delivered big on both flavor and presentation. That said, you really can’t go wrong with any of their tacos. If you ask, they’ll bring out three different salsas, which is a nice bonus. While some mention the wait, the staff seemed organized and hardworking, and it’s great that they’re fully bilingual—it makes coming here with mixed-language groups easy. The space itself was spotless, thoughtfully decorated, and had a welcoming, comfortable vibe.
Huge shout out to Beatriz, she was amazing on a Saturday night, handling several tables! The food was delicious as well but her service was welcoming.
Probably the most authentic mexican food ive had in a while. Real barbacoa, delicious horchata. Such friendly staff and this place is NEVER empty.
My daughter and I love going to Los Vaqueros. They always treat us well and the food is always delicious. Kathya was our waiter recently. She did an amazing job checking in on us despite it being a busy evening! 11/10
Favorite Mexican spot in town. The barbacoa is the best I've had. Great prices, strong drinks and friendly staff
I probably eat at vaquero’s 3-4 times a week. Marisol is a gem as well as the entire staff. This place welcomes you like family. I’ll be there for breakfast! Fred
Los Vaqueros in Kyle absolutely delivered. We ordered the enchiladas with chili sauce, the sour cream enchiladas, and the fajitas — and every single dish was spot-on. The chili-sauce enchiladas had that perfect kick without being overpowering, the sour cream enchiladas were rich and comforting, and the fajitas came out sizzling with tons of flavor. Classic, top-notch Tex-Mex done right. Definitely a place we’ll be coming back to.
The food is absolutely delicious. We had breakfast one day , lunch another day and dinner our last night here in Kyle , TX. I didn’t want to try any other restaurants . They have the BEST and I mean the BEST guacamole and salsa.
Wow! My recent visit to Los Vaqueros Cafe & Grill was an absolute revelation. This place serves up some of the most authentic and delicious Tex-Mex I've had in a long time. The moment you walk in, you know you're in for a treat. I had to try a little bit of everything. The menudo was a standout—rich, spicy, and loaded with tender tripe and hominy. It's the kind of dish that makes you feel at home. The carne guisada was another highlight; the meat was fork-tender and the gravy had a depth of flavor that can only come from a well-loved family recipe. And don't sleep on the breakfast plates! My huevos rancheros were cooked to perfection, with a savory ranchero sauce that was simply divine. If you're tired of generic chain restaurants and want to experience true, authentic flavors, put Los Vaqueros at the top of your list. This is the real deal.
This was our second time visiting and the food is always great. It looks like they have a great ambiance at night with live music so would have to come try. We had the vaqueros breakfast plate and the chilaquiles. We enjoyed it and more with their home made corn tortillas. Well recommended
Great food, great service! It really is a hidden gem! We live in Buda and were looking for a local Mexican food spot close by that has liquor. Gambling and made the drive here and surely didn’t disappoint! The queso, and our entrees were delicious. The margarita flight is to die for, great flavor! The cocktail price was very reasonable, and overall price tag is representing what Kyle is supposed to be. So many chains and restaurants around putting Austin price and this ain’t it. I found out they are doing breakfast as well so might go back for different vibes. This is the best Mexican restaurant in the south that we have tried so far! My only suggestion to the owner is to open this restaurant abit later than 9 pm on a Saturday. Would love to stay for a watch game or something with friends, honestly so muchhh potential with plenty seats, good music and giant parking lot in Kyle suburb. We will be back for sure!
Parking in front is small and may fill fast. Additional parking arround side in rear. Easy entry, quick seating. Friendly and helpful servers. Drink orders were taken and delivered quickly. Food order was taken and delivered in a timely fashion. Everything was excellent. Food was awesome. Drink refills were quickly delivered from attentive servers. We will return.
Top notch staff. Very friendly. Delicious food and fast service. Will return. P.S. Returned a few weeks later to try the Asada taco, Migas taco, and house guacamole. Amazing on all counts. As someone from San Antonio with great grandparents that cooked me amazing Mexican food, this is one of the best Asada's I've ever had. On top of that the service is still great all around.
Migas and chicarone breakfast tacos were good. Service was great, prompt and checked on us a few times. Will go back and try for lunch or dinner.
Update- I took a star away. Last three visits were not the same. Waiter had an attitude, food was late and cold, Dinner hours are probably not the best time to come. On this particular evening they seemed understaffed. My best experience would be breakfast or brunch and having Maria as my waitress. Pay at the counter. Mexican-American food. $20-30/per person including tip.
Food was great service was awesome super friendly and nice definitely coming back soon.
The free chips and salsa were amazing, spicy with a nice roasted flavor; The spiciness made me drink my drink too fast, but there was no wait staff around to give me a refill until later on when my food arrived. Probably wouldn't have needed a refill so quickly if the whole cup wasn't 95% filled with ice, so ask for light ice. I got the beef enchiladas; The sauce had a subtle taste like it was pre-made, but they must have added something to it or changed it to vastly improve the flavor. Overall it was very filling and good. Bonus: It was the lunch special, so good deal! I had a nice time there. Staff were friendly.
The food was great and our waitress was wonderful. The only downfall is that there is one bathroom. And while I was waiting with 3 other women in front of me. Someone was in the bathroom taking a very long time. The ladies that were in front of me. Said they have been waiting for a while. They knocked a couple of times no response . So the men's restroom was available so they decided to go to the men's. I waited until one became available. Then the women's door opened. And it was an employee of the restaurant. Upset and aggravated that ppl were knocking and talking about someone being in the bathroom. She claimed she was cleaning it. But decided to take longer because she was pissed. That she isn't one to be messed with and that she was previously in the army/military. I told her she needs to calm down. It's not that big of a deal. Her attitude and responses where very unprofessional. Other than that. Everything was great
Great atmosphere and margaritas. We had the parillada mixed with chicken, beef, sausage and shrimp for 2. Large portions. Lots of choices on the menu. Nice bar.
Usually hit or miss. Last visit, order came out incorrectly, but waitress quickly resolved. Wait staff are great. Salsa is fantastic
I've been wanting to try this place for awhile, every time I pass by it when I'm in town. My review is a little mixed - I got two breakfast tacos to go. Service was great. The hostess who took my order was really friendly and my order came out quickly. Breakfast taco #1 was a potato and egg and it was perfect. The tortilla was great and the ingredients were nice, hot, and flavorful. I loved the red salsa - it had a nice kick to it. Breakfast taco #2 was a bit of a let down. It was a bean and cheese taco. The beans and cheese were cold. The cheese wasn't even melted. I would go back, but likely not get bean and cheese again.
My plate was an inspiration from New Mexico. Anytime you see the eggs on them. That's what that is, she loved hers. The salsa was a little hotter than most people's. We loved it, but just to warn you. The queso was good, just could have used a fancier better cheese, our meals were excellent. The rest of the items were great. Waitress was sweet in and attentive. The building was just super cool and all you gotta do is drive through downtown Kyle, and at the end of it... it's right there on the corner on the right ...
Would been 5 stars but waitress would not check on me and my wife. We are very generous with our tips when service is good, but when it is bad forget it. The food was excellent, very tasteful and presented well. We will try it again maybe just a bad day.
The building is very old. As we walked in, we caught a hint of old home smell. Once we proceeded to our seating, we were fine. We got that scent again when we headed out. So, it’s only in that small entrance room, where you get that smell… they have indoor and outdoor seating. The food was good. The Gorditas and the shredded chicken in the gorditas lacked Mexican flavor. The menudo had good flavor but lacked panistas and hominy. The place size was large enough to share food. The Mexican martini lacked flavor. They served us well considering we were a large party. I think we will come back to try the lunch menu.
An early dinner at 5:30 PM. Seated immediately order taken quickly . I ordered the beef fajita burrito plate. The salsa was pretty spicy. Had me drinking my beer faster than I normally would. Very colorful inside. Have both inside and outside seating for dinner. My meal came out quickly and was very good. There was no shortage of meat inside the burrito and the outside was covered with melted cheese. I could barely finish it. A good value for dinner at $15. I will be back. Highly recommend.
Chips are hard, no flavor. One type of salsa, spicy. My siblings enjoyed it. Beans in the bean & cheese had no flavor. Single piece of thin bacon in the bacon taco. Torta was soggy with flavorless meat, no salt, nothing. Service dragged. Lots of old folks & kids; they seemed happy enough. Prolly wont revisit.
I was meeting my husband for dinner and was surprised the waitress wouldn't seat me until my husband arrived. There were plenty of seats available because it was 5pm, and I wanted to order an appetizer and drink while I waited for my husband. It didn't make any sense for me to wait, especially when I told the waitress I expected him at any moment.
Food is good some somewhat authentic Mexican. The waitress messed up my taco order 2 times other than that it was fine.
I had high hopes for this place after reading all the good reviews. I ordered a barbacoa on corn, no pales on corn, 2 al pastor flour, 2 lingua flour, and a potato and egg flour. The tortillas were halfway cooked and by then sitting in the food juice, they turned RAW. And the tacos that were supposed to be on corn ended up being put on flour. I was very disappointed and we had to end up heating our tortillas up t home which that barely helped. The kids quesadilla had a butter pancake taste to them as I’m assuming they cooked it right frrr cooking pancakes on a griddle (cross contamination to be expected). The horchata didn’t taste homemade but it wasn’t bad 4/5. The lime aqua Fresca was pretty good 5/5 with a strong lime after taste. I specifically requested lime, salsa and queso fresco but was only given the lime and salsa and not queso fresco.. maybe they don’t have my which kind of sucks. I’m hoping and thinking that this place would be better if it was dine in and not take out; willing to give them another try as the food itself was good just not the tortillas.
The first time I ate at Vaqueros the food was very good, and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. However, my 2nd visit was not good at all. I ordered a simple enchilada plate, and the enchiladas had little to no meat in them, not to mention my meal was cold and the cheese on top of the enchiladas was burned. I was very disappointed and do not plan on returning. I'm not willing to take a chance on whether my food will be good or not.
I order from this place all the time. I guess you can say I’m a regular. Well today is not different than any other time I order. I order the same thing each and every time. This time the got it all wrong! Not only was the order that I placed over the phone wrong. The young lady was so rude because I walked up to the register to inquire about my order. I guess she assumed I should have waited until everyone was sited on better yet when everyone who dined in check out. I waited my turn just like everyone else and there was no need for the attitude or rudeness. I was blocking people in because the lot was full and like others times a phone order pick up should be in and out
No waiting. I have to amit. The food is delicious. Fresh tortillas, even the Tea is really good. But trying to get lemons, a refill on salsa or chips seems to be a struggle or a bother. Then we had problems checking out. Make sure to read your receipt carefully before payment. Unfortunatly this is going to be our last visit.
I really had high hopes for this place based on many of the other reviews I read. All in all, my lunch time visit was very disappointing. I ordered the mixed plate #2, and while my cheese enchiladas and crispy taco were good, I only got 1 tortilla. I had to wait a ridiculously long time just for this one tortilla (after they brought me my plate, it was about another 10 minutes before I got my tortilla). I should have been given two for the inconvenience. These people really need to work on their service. I will not come here again.
Small but warm place. Always busy on Fridays and the weekends so I figured the food must be good. I ordered the enchilada plate. One beef, one chicken and one cheese. Food lacked flavor that is associated good Tex Mex. It was very bland. I figured the crowds must be there for the booze....
Very good restaurant with good service! I was super disappointed after ordering a platter with 2 chalupas and a chicken enchilada. 1. Never had chicken enchiladas with chili cheese sauce, didn’t think to mention it and it didn’t specify the chili cheese sauce on the menu. 2. The hot sauce is REALLY REALLY spicy!!!!!!!!!!! 3. The restaurant and I had different versions of a chalupa. I was brought what I have always considered a tostada. Also, I guess I didn’t read the menu right because I was under the impression they both had meat and 1 had guacamole and the other had queso. They were brought with no meat, instead I got 2 small flat crispie corn tortillas with lettuce, tomatoes and then 1 with queso the other a teaspoon of guacamole. The waitress was super sweet when she saw my disappointment, she brought me out some meat and some AMAZING green sauce. Unfortunately I don’t like the chili queso ever, so. I just didn’t eat the enchilada (she most likely would have replaced it but I just let it go). I think there should be something that defines exactly what they are serving when it differs from the norm! I googled chalupa and the pic that pulled up was exactly what I was expecting. I’m attaching a picture of what I got that was called a chalupa.
The service was pretty good, as our waitress was attentive and pleasant. I ordered the migas plate, which consists of eggs, chips, bell peppers....and cheese? The eggs were undercooked to the point of being liquid, and the tortillas seemed to be store bought and on cheaper side. I now have a film on my teeth that I can't wait to scrub off when I get home. We won't be returning.
My family has been coming here for years, sometimes a couple times per week! Always had great service, great food and great prices! Lately that has changed... food quality has gone down... crunchy undercooked rice, wrong orders, longer wait times, etc. They now charge you for a refill of chips and salsa! We had a party of 4 and went through the first chips and salsa quickly and we sat for a ridiculously long time waiting for our waitress to come over so we could ask for more, and when the kitchen staff brought our food out we asked him for more and he got the waitress... thats when we were told there's a charge for more chips and salsa! What?! My rice was crunchy, my order was wrong and we waited forever for service. They also won't seat you unless your whole group is there... even if you want to sit and order appetizers and drinks while you wait for the last of your group. They are losing out on money with that policy. I guess its time to find another favorite Mexican restaurant to go to, which is a shame because nobody has salsa quite like vaqueros. Truly disappointed.
Was hungry for barbacoa and a friend recommended this place so we tried it. We got seated pretty fast, and were impressed with the menu. My wife ordered the chorizo con huevo plate and I ordered the barbacoa plate. The dishes came out super fast, which worried me a little. As I suspected the food was warm enough not to be cold, but the eggs were cooked well. I saw the barbacoa and it looked really mushy and greasy. The tortillas were also just warm enough to be soft. My wife enjoyed her chorizo con huevo but it was just standard according to her. We both agreed that the potatoes are just ok, and at least they were cooked thru, but they were slightly warm, and not crispy at all. The beans were her favorite part of the plate. Well seasoned and good flavor. My barbacoa has a huge chunk of either fat or cow tongue skin. It was enough for me to ask for a little more, but only after I waved down someone to ask. They looked confused but said ok. When the barbacoa was delivered, it was on a coffee dish and 1/3 of that was mushy fat. When the bill came they added a side of barbacoa for 3.99. so a coffee dish of barbacoa with 1/3 fat is 3.99. I paid the bill but did not tip. No one ever asked how our food was, and when I asked for a little more barbacoa I was charged 4 bucks for two forks worth of meat with 1/3 of that being straight up fat. Disappointed is the only way to describe our time at Vaqueros.
Wish I could give 5 stars. The food was delicious!! But the service was horrible! We order guacamole for an appetizer, when the waitress-Teresa took our drink order. When Teresa brought our drinks we ordered our food. Had eaten a whole bowl of chips when Teresa came and told me they didn't have any Chile Relleno, and would need to order something else. I ordered and asked when we were going to get the Guacamole appetizer. Finally got the Guacamole and our food, then she never came back to our table. (Teresa did walk by with dirty plates, but never look at us) A person came to pick up our empty plates and we asked her if we could get some sopapillas. She brought them to us and then we sat there waiting for our ticket. We gave her the cc and I notice that we were charged for the chili Relleno plate, not the one I got. Went to register and the lady that took our cc had misplaced it and went to look for it.
Use to come here two or three times a week. We loved this place. Never had a problem sitting down and enjoying a good meal with company. Last couple of times we’ve been there, they will not sit you down unless the whole party is there. Went yesterday and only a few tables were taken, No one in the back where we were going to have to sit anyways with 8 of us. Myself, my wife, my mom and dad walked in and were going to wait on my daughter and my daughter in law with their two kids. We were told that we had to have at least half of us there to sit us down. Well I guess they couldn’t count cause half of 8 is 4. We weren’t going to wait the 20 minutes or so that it was going to take my grandkids and daughters to get there. They could have sat us down so we could drink coffee and visit with my parents while waiting. I’m just baffled why such a strict rule when the place was more than half empty. We use to walk in and just sit and enjoy ourselves. We went elsewhere down the road and were sat down immediately. As a business owner myself, I understand how you do business is important and understand your strict sitting rules when busy. But when you have 12 people eating in your restaurant and can’t accommodate to sit a few more down, “come on” you can do better Vaqueros.
Dine in with a group of 6 people last Friday. The service was horrible and slow. Waitress barely checked on us. I got the vaquero burger and it didn’t taste fresh. Very disappointed.
Please check your receipt. You will be charged for something that you didn't get and will get different food to what you ordered. When you complain, they don't care, you will not get a refund. If they don't like you for any reason, they will give you less food. Just be careful.
The food used to be great here. Service and cleanliness too. Today it was horrible, and I do not use that word lightly. Picture attached. To start, when we walked in, unless you wanted to sit on the patio in 27 degree weather, there was one table cleaned. The other tables stayed dirty til our food arrived. Imagine sitting next to old food your entire meal. We never once recieved a visit back from our server until after our food was gone and our drinks were empty. She didn't drop off our food so she had no idea how the quality was, and let me tell you, it was mediocre at best. My food came out Luke warm, and my room mates food came out way worse. His potatoes had no seasoning. The country fried steak was all gristle. The eggs had no seasoning. We never recieved a drink refill, so when she FINALLY made it out of her super important conversation with the other server 20 feet away from us ( pic attached) We asked for teas to go. All in all this restaurant has gone so far downhill from where it was, it needs a new zipcode.
