Extremely satisfied with Leilani’s on the Beach! All our food was exceptional and the drinks were amazing. The seafood platter is a bit pricey, but everything was fresh. The Garlic Shrimp Pasta was my favorite, but everything else was a close second. I would highly recommend visiting Leilani’s on the Beach at least once during your trip to Maui.
The prime rib and parmesan encrusted fish were quite good as was the hula pie. Views of the sunset were also incredible. A great restaurant all around
My parents had been here back in 2001 and my mom kept telling us that they had the best fish and chips she had ever had here. To say I came in with high expectations was an understatement. How good can fish and chips be, anyway? Well let me tell you, these did not disappoint. I would recommend ordering the onion rings as well or at least a side of the malt vinegar aioli to dip in. I have the luxury of eating at a lot of nice restaurants for work and this was a unique and delicious sauce that I had never tasted. It was exceptional. The mai tais were also quite good - I would say ditch the pineapple cup for the extra $10. While fit for social media, it doesn’t really add anything to the actual drink. Tables for lunch are first come first serve and in our experience it is not terribly difficult to get a table.
Absolute Perfection on the Beach! If you are looking for the ultimate Maui dining experience, look no further. Leilani’s on the Beach is doing everything right, from the atmosphere to the plate. The Food The Fish Tacos: These are hands down the best fish tacos I have ever had. The fish was incredibly fresh, perfectly seasoned, and held together by a tortilla that actually knows its job. Every bite was a 10/10. The Poke Bowl: Freshness is the name of the game here. The poke was buttery, vibrant, and seasoned to perfection. It’s exactly what you want to be eating while looking at the Pacific. The Drinks & Service Let’s talk about the strong pour. It is so rare to find a place that doesn't skimp on the spirits, but the bartenders here have a heavy hand in the best way possible. The cocktails are balanced but definitely pack a punch—exactly what you need for a vacation sundowner. The staff truly put the experience over the top. They were attentive, fast, and radiating that genuine aloha spirit. Even when the place was buzzing, we felt like the only table there. Mahalo, Leilani’s! We will be back—probably tomorrow.
We visited Leilani’s on the Beach during a recent trip to Maui in January, and it was one of those meals that just felt like Hawaii in the best possible way. Right away, the drinks set the tone — tropical, well-balanced, and clearly made by people who know what they’re doing. Not overly sweet, not watered down… just dangerously good. We also ordered a few appetizers, and everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Perfect beachside food that doesn’t feel like a tourist trap. But the real star of the show was dessert. The Hula Pie absolutely lived up to the hype. Huge, rich, and indulgent — and what really set it apart was the drizzle of real local honey, which added a depth and warmth you don’t usually get with desserts like this. Easily one of the best desserts we had on the entire trip. Between the oceanfront setting, great service, excellent food, and that unforgettable dessert, Leilani’s was a standout. It’s the kind of place you leave already talking about when you’ll come back next time you’re on the island.
Best giant Cheeseburger on a brioche bun plus they recommended & added /bacon & avocado! They had a steak special with wedge blue cheese bacon salad. (The guys said the burger was better than the steak).. But the wedge salad was delicious that I ate from my husband's plate! Also they have the Best Hula Pie Slice (icecream layers with chocolate cookie crust, whipcream & fudge syrup drizzle) it was huge, so 6 of us split one giant slice after we were full from our meals.. They still have it made fresh even after the Maui fire destroyed the main bldg where the pie used to come from! Soo good!
Super fun bar area overlooking the water. Poke bowl was great. Drinks average price for Hawaii. Happy hour 3-5 Mon, Thu - Sun Live music when we were here at 3:45pm Thu Service was all very good. Nice, friendly.
Enjoyed an incredible meal on the ocean! From the moment we walked in, to the moment we left the staff was on point and so kind. Jake the manager of the restaurant was so attentive and went above and beyond to make sure our visit was amazing. We both enjoyed the crab cakes as our appetizer, fresh fish for our dinner and hula pie for dessert. Good quality food and good portion size. I would highly recommend this to anyone!
A wonderful location on the seaside and the food largely delivers too. My favorite is the hot pot with a whiff of saffron that gives the seafood stew extra taste. The setting is just wonderful but you will not be disappointed. The service was excellent too on our visit.
We ate at the beach bar and enjoyed the live music on the patio. The food was good (on par with others in Whalers Village) and was comparably priced to the other places as well. We got the fish tacos and the bento box and would recommend either one. Our server Liz was fantastic! The Hula Pie was amazing and worth the trip on its own.
The atmosphere is hard to beat and the food is still awesome. Fish tacos are just as good as 20yrs ago! Jason and Carlos made the experience top notch, they live the aloha spirit and have passion and enthusiasm for their guests. Nicola was a blast from the past and I was happy to see her.
Great location in the Whalers shopping mall on the beach walk. We had coconut shrimp to start with a couple foo-foo drinks. So good. The main course was fabulous. The mahi was accompanied with garlic mashed. The ahi was seared but mostly raw. Sushi grade.
A reliable choice for sunset views, whale watching, and an easygoing dinner. Upstairs dining opens at 4:30 pm, while the downstairs bar is open more hours and is more casual. A 5:30 pm reservation works perfectly for sunset and dusk. The menu isn’t overly adventurous, but it’s versatile and works well for groups and kids, with a few good fish options.
First time in Maui even first time in Hawaii. Decided to go to the Whalers Village as my only meal had been a Musubi Roll so wanted to experience the full Maui experience. Absolutely loved my time at Leilani's on the Beach, casual dining area (there's two different sections). My bento box of all things nice was delicious and the beer I had was the perfect brew to match it with. Had a coffee as well as the glorious sun began to set. The waitress I had, was an absolute star as well, friendly and charming. 100% satisfaction!
overall a great place to eat! my husband had the prime rib. they dry rubbed the prime rib then seared it, and my husband says it’s the best prime rib he’s ever had! we sat overlooking the beach right at sunset. obviously get the hula pie, it was incredible!!
We loved our experience at Leilani’s! We went to celebrate our recent engagement & made a reservation before we showed up. The staff made us feel welcome and appreciated as patrons. Everyone we encountered congratulated us on our engagement and they gave us some delicious macadamia nut ice cream cake on the house for dessert. We both ordered the filet steak with bacon mashed potato’s. I ordered my steak medium rare and when it showed up it was cooked well done. When our server came over to check how the meals came out she noticed right away it wasn’t cooked right and promptly put in a new order for me. A supervisor came over to check on us and apologize for the mix up. A new steak was delivered that was cooked perfectly and both the server snd the supervisor came back to check to make sure the new one was cooked as ordered. We understand mistakes happen and weren’t upset, and we really appreciated the care they took to make us feel that they truly did care about their guests experience. I’d absolutely recommend this place and will return when we come back to Maui!
Had dinner here last night. Food, service and atmosphere were wonderful. Don't be fooled with some of these wacky Google reviews. Prices and food are on par with most higher end restaurants in larger cities, which not everyone has had the opportunity to experience. So take those complaints with a grain of salt.
Day time is a nice time, dusk is even better, and night time is the right to enjoy Leilani's on the Beach! Ask for Sean, he will ensure you have a memorable visit and dining experience! Beware Sean may convince you that one 😉 pie 🥧 dessert is not enough!
If you are visiting this coast, come for the dinner to Leilani’s. Their ceviche and coconut shrimps for appetizer were perfect. My bf has a dairy allergy, so all stuff took care of every single drink and food, so he wouldn’t feel bad. Also we ordered tuna and I’ve asked to adjust salad for me and add extra protein, waitress recommended what will fit better! For sure our number 1 spot for dinner! Live music, fantastic ocean view, delicious food and tasty cocktails! Highly recommend
We had the poke to start and then chicken/ribs and prime rib, finishing with Kimo's Hula Pie. Food was good but overpriced for what it was. The prime rib was tasty but 35% inedibly fatty even though it looked pretty lean at first. Highly recommend the Hula Pie though. You're paying for the location and vibes.
It was great! We enjoy all our dishes. From Burger to fish to the Bento box (in my picture). Only downside was that the fish tacos only had sauce containing cilantro and my SIL is allergic so it was bit too dry for her.
Excellent attentive friendly service! Multiple servers and a manager checked on us. The pulled pork BBQ sandwich with the pineapple slaw was amazing. Will go back for the service alone.
We made a reservation in advance so they sat us upstairs, very nice view! Very quick, everything was very nice especially our server lady forgot her name but she was awesome! This place is good as it can be here!! We had a Maui fresh salad, Cesar salad, hummus, steaks, calamari, sea food pot and some fish dish and a pie! Very good!
Amazing food, service great. Eating right next to the ocean?? You can't get it better than that
Went here for my 23rd birthday! I made a reservation same day and requested nicely if we could get a view of the beach and they did not disappoint! It felt so nice and special being on the 2nd floor and looking at the sunset. Food was fresh and delicious! Would definitely recommend, but would also say if you can, get a reservation ahead of time! Not too difficult and it guarantees you a time!
Beautiful place to eat on the water. Review prices when ordering...didn't realize 3 xtra shrimp were $17. Otherwise, nice.
Stopped in here solely for the hula pie. So tasty, I look forward to that whenever I visit Hawaii. I also had two different tasty cocktails.
Everything we ate here was delicious and there is a view from anywhere on the upper level of the restaurant. We went to watch the sunset and have dinner and came back because everything was so good.
This was our first food stop in Maui. Did not disappoint. Highly recommend the Rum Punch! Had the shrimp tempura pupu, fish tacos, and nachos. All fantastic.
This review is for the more casual beach bar downstairs. We loved it! Great sunset views, great service and tasty food! Especially liked the Korean sampler combo plate.
We called to make a reservation and the employee said we could walk in. We arrived around 7:30 and were initially told it'd be a 45 minute wait. A couple minutes later an employee told us she could seat us right away. We were ecstatic and immediately seated at a round table. Our server Katy took our drink order, and we ordered a bottle of red wine Joel Gott Palisades. We ordered some appetizers including ceviche and calamari. I ordered the Garlic Shrimp Pasta again as the first time had a lasting impression. Mind you, I'd been here almost 2 years ago and still remembered my meal. I was gonna knock a star off for their Kombucha, it didn't taste at all like real Kombucha…more like sparkling water. However, all our food, drinks and dessert were a 10/10! Our group was so impressed with the high quality food especially the Korean Rib meal and fresh salads. I'd definitely come back again. The atmosphere feels like fine dining with romantic beachy vibes.
Worth every penny! The Herb Roasted fish was the best meal of my life. A memorable dish, for sure! As was the Filet Mignon. It’s a beautiful restaurant with lovely staff. We were fortunate to sit by the water and had a good sunset view. Of course, the finishing touch to the meal was Hula Pie. 🤤
Best food and service I’ve had during my week long stay in Maui! All of the food was absolutely amazing and came in a good timely manner as well. Between me and my boyfriend we got the king crab legs, twin lobster tails, garlic shrimp pasta and a side of shrimp plus two lava flows. I have no complaints about any of it it was all so so good will definitely come back soon!
A great spot with very good food. The portions were just a bit small but the presentations and sides were great. And of course, a great place to watch the sunset.
Wonderful place to sit down for dinner, enjoy good food and drinks AND a marvelous sunset. It is best to make reservations maybe an hour or more before sunset since the window tables might not be available later on. We had their macadamia nut hummus with seasonal vegetables, which was delicious. For main, got two of their fish dishes (parmesan crusted and herb crusted fish). Both were really good, although the herb crusted fish’s sauce was a bit too sweet. We also got their hula pie which was indulgent and so exciting.
Overall: 5 stars. Very nice place. My favorite overall during our trip and we tried almost all the top spots. Preferred bottom floor for lunch/dinner over fancier top floor dining area for dinner only. Food: 5/5. Split fish tacos 1st visit. Waiter claimed they were award-winning and they held up to the claim. Very tasty. Not usually a big fan of fish in a taco but this changes my mind. Got salsa, guacamole and sour cream to put in taco and dip chips in. Chips were very good too. Lightly salted with perfect crunch and texture. Also had nachos with chicken on bottom floor for lunch 2nd visit- 4 stars. Everything was great but chicken was kinda weird like canned chicken. Had calamari, and spare ribs for dinner on top floor 3rd visit. Both 5 stars. Best calamari I think I've ever had. Spare ribs were crispy on outside and melted in my mouth. Good sauce and flavor. Not a lot of meat but perfect for appetizer, wasn't too heavy or fatty. Drinks: 4.5/5. Strong tasty drinks on bottom floor. Seemed similar on top floor but a little weaker, probably just particular bartender. Liked Lava Flow and 1944. Lavaman beer was tasty as always. Limited but pretty solid draft beer menu. Not a big wine drinker, but they had many different wines including sparkling. Service: 4/5. No waiting for seats or drinks on bottom floor. Food came quick and was fresh. Busier and slower service on top floor. Atmosphere: 4.5/5. Only 1 TV at bar on bottom floor. Has nice top floor open in the evening with great sunset views but highly recoomend reservations on top floor. Nice vibe and great views right on the beach. Price: 2/5. Typical high Maui prices but not too crazy. Cheaper than the high end places.
We stopped in here after a nice walk down to the resort and decided to try out this restaurant's local drink- Mai Thai, they were delicious. Our hostess was very gracious and attended to all our needs.
The best fish tacos I had my whole stay! Views are great and close to shops and funs things to do.
The mushroom sauce that comes with the crusted ahi tuna was incredibly good. The coconut shrimp were delicious but the spicy side sauce overwhelmed the delicate coconut. Just eat the shrimp and ignore the sauce. Service was good. They do a good job of correctly handling red wine in a tropic environment.
We enjoyed our lunch outside with a great view of the ocean. The beach cheeseburgers were pretty tasty, but they are big... so bring a good appetite. Friendly staff and delicious drinks. Get here early or you might have a long wait. Overall, a great place for some good eats by the sea.
Nice beach front location. Good to get a reservation. Has to levels. We came for the best of Maui fish tacos. Unfortunately they are only served on the lower level. Which we didn’t know there was one. We were a bit disappointed. Otherwise the food was good. Ordered the Parmesan crusted fish. Comes with mashed potatoes and carrots. It was delicious. For dessert we ordered the Maui pie. It was excellent. Mixed drinks were okay.
Great spot for some drinks and appetizers. We didn't have a full meal but the coconut shrimp was the highlight. We also had the calamari strips and mac nut hummus. The mai tai was a 7/10. Beautiful beachfront location
Had a lovely dinner for my partners birthday. We both had fish which was lovely and great and prepared well. They comped our desert for his birthday which was a lovely gesture. Great views of the ocean so if you can go for sunset it would be lovely. I’d say for the price they could work on the food presentation but a minor point really, it’s the taste that matters!
Popular on the beach. Great ambiance and service. Cold refreshing drinks, Good appetizers and selection of fish. Ahi tuna was our favorite. Ice cream dessert and a coffee a great way to finish.
There is a casual and upscale portion. When I asked they said that the difference is the menu. People were dressed casually in both. The food was good. The lychee martini tasted like pineapple juice. Tacos were delicious and chips were good without any salsa.
We ate dinner at Leilani’s on the Beach on a Monday night for date night. It was a short walk from our resort and is next to lots of shopping at Whalers Village. I made a reservation for 8:15 pm and there were tons of people there when we arrived 5 minutes early. The hostesses were very busy and told us to walk around for a while until our table was ready. We were seated around 8:45 pm and it was very loud and hot where we were seated. Our waiter was kind and attentive. We ordered a filet and a prime rib, both were good. Definitely not the best steaks we’ve ever had, but tasty. This was a nice dinner and a great location. However, if you’re wanting a quiet relaxed meal, this is not the place to go.
Atmosphere is amazing, gorgeous views, service was excellent. Adults meals were good. Garlic shrimp pasta was excellent!! My husband got the crusted fish and it was just okay, but cost twice as much as the pasta dish. I understand why it cost more, but it really should be better. The pasta was so delicious! The kids cheeseburger was very good, but the kids chicken fingers were very dry and only came with 2 small chicken pieces, which is fine except it’s $15 and not great….. The hoola pie is delicious, and one of our favorites!! My daughter ordered a strawberry smoothie (instead of tropical fruit smoothie) and it was very much like a strawberry milkshake, which I guess is ok, but again very expensive at $10. The Mai Tai’s were also good in flavor, but were not strong. They also validate parking which makes it free, which is great as the shuttle from the hotel we stayed at was often very crowded.
We tried Leilani’s on the Beach and found it to be an average experience overall — I’d rate it about 3 stars. The location is great with a nice beach atmosphere, but the restaurant feels more like a polished chain-on-the-ocean rather than a unique dining spot. The food was okay but underwhelming for the price and hype. The hummus was heavy on oil and hidden at the bottom of the plate, the calamari lacked much flavor, and the mashed potatoes had that heat-lamp crust that made them taste like they’d been sitting. Nothing stood out as thoughtful or memorable. Service was friendly, and our waiter did their best, but the restaurant was very busy and it showed. The overall service level didn’t quite match what you’d expect for the setting and cost. In hindsight, we probably would have enjoyed the beach bar portion of the restaurant more, since that casual vibe and pace seems like a better fit for this spot.
It is interesting reading through the reviews and a lot of them are five star ratings. We are there twice and had similar experiences. I really don't think this is a five star restaurant with a lot of missing components. Some of which include the "pets" aka birds that intruding. Not really the restaurants fault, but when the waiters and bus boys leave the food on the table to long you are inviting unwelcomed guests aka the "pets". I'll start with the good though. They are right on the beach so almost any seat is a good seat. The appetizers are great especially the nachos. We added the pulled pork to it to make it even better. The pulled pork was tender and very flavorful. We enjoyed it with the crunch of the chips, salsa and the avocado. On different nights we got the fish and chips and the fish tacos. The tacos were definitely better. The fish was over cooked on the fish and chips plate and the fries lack luster. But it did seem like they were using the same fish for the fish and chips and the tacos😅. The waiters seemed to be beginners and we had two different waiters each day. Both were slow to serve the food and just appeared to be inattentive. Both times we had to request our water to be refilled especially on a hot day at the beach. I mean we sat so close to the beach that the surf was spraying our food 🌊😂. "That's a little... Salty" bonus points if you can guess the movie🤣. Anyways there are two places to eat at. If you want something more casual eat on the floor closer to the beach. If you want the "steak" restaurant you will want to head upstairs. There are shady spots to sit under but they don't cover well in the late afternoon. I got roasted like a lobster 🦞. Hmmm ... Maybe my wife should have ordered lobster instead 🤔. Anyways that's were the water would have nice. So mind when you are going to eat and where you are going to be seated. I do believe they will vouch for parking but double check with them first. Most other restaurants did while we were on the beach. So three stars for mediocre food (mind you the nachos saved their rating), poor service, but all least a great view as long as you don't mind becoming the next lobster 😜.
We sat upstairs in the dining area. The service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and the highlight of our visit. We ordered the coconut shrimp, grilled shrimp with butter and garlic, beets and ricotta salad, and poke. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations. The ricotta had a thinner consistency than expected, and the beets were fairly mild in flavor. The coconut shrimp arrived at room temperature and was somewhat dry. The butter sauce on the shrimp lacked a clear buttery flavor, and the poke did not seem as fresh as anticipated. Overall, while the service was outstanding, the food was inconsistent with what we were hoping for.
