Initially came here looking for dim sum after seeing a review saying they had it, but they haven’t served dim sum in quite a while! That was okay because everything else was really yummy. We ordered two dishes off the lunch menu: the Szechuan and Curry Chicken. Pretty good deals for those. We also ordered the Flat Noodle with Beef, Salt & Pepper Shrimp, Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, Scallion Pancake, and Spicy Wontons. Really satisfying for a decent price! Tina was also really helpful providing recommendations. If we are in the area again, we’d love to come back!
I don't find myself out this way often. I remember when there was a Pao's Mandarin House in the Brown Building in Downtown Austin. Now, there is only this one, but worth a trip to Lakeway for some of the best Asian cuisine anywhere. REAL CHINESE HOT MUSTARD. BE CAREFUL, but it's amazing!
Thank you Pao’s for our Christmas dinner, it was a hit. Linda helped me with my order, everything came out perfectly. Food was fresh and flavorful
Great service and lots of tasty food for a good price. I like that each meal comes with a soup to start with. Only eat 1/4 of our food because it was so much. Took the rest home for dinner. Restaurant was clean and beautiful to look at. Actual cloth napkins whitch was nice. Never really like the sticky feeling paper napkins feel when eating sesame chicken. Nice spot for date night.
I ordered Sichuan Beef and I love it! The flavor is really good! Wonton soup is delicious too! Will definitely come back more. Highly recommend!!
Great spot to eat. Amazing service

Shoutout to the owner @ Pao’s Mandarin House! I’ve been ordering from there here & now and the food never misses! This time we got a call saying that our prepaid to go order was ready & we missed closing! The owner was so very sweet to stay open past closing to ensure we got our order😊I am so grateful because it was an amazing meal that we were so looking forward to!
Our Family has ordered take out here for at least 5 years. The food is always "a treat to behold", delicious. Then one day we took the family to the restaurant. The Server was amazing and other employee's were great. Take out or dine in, either way its a win, win.
Great for dine in and take out dinners. Love their lettuce wraps. Always tastes so fresh and crisp. Other family favorites are the pot stickers, green beans, egg plant, and beef with broccoli.
We looooove Pao's! Always fresh food and friendly service. We get the General Tsao's chicken and Beef Flat Noodles. Perfect pairing every time. In addition, they are always so welcoming of our little one which is a nice feeling when eating out in public.

Great Chinese food in the Lakeway area, really hit the spot after a day out on the lake. They do close in the middle of the day 3-4pm. We ordered a variety of dishes from the Chinese menu (hot pot with pork intestines, salt and pepper fillet fish, shrimp with snow pea leaves, smoked tea duck) - everything was delicious! The prices were pretty fair for the amount of food and they have quite a diverse selection of traditional items. It was not busy at all when we arrived, but it was close to their closing time. There is plenty of parking since they are located in a plaza. The noise level is low.
Pao's is one of our favorite Chinese places in the Austin area. I have been eating at Pao's for 20 years or more, since they were in their downtown location in the 90's. Our most recent visit to the Lakeway location was not their best performance, because they were understaffed and overwhelmed. Apparently their business has been booming since they re-opened recently. IMO, the best of their menu includes the Crispy Beef Mandarin Style, the pan-fried noodles, and they actually make an excellent Sesame Chicken. DO NOT MISS the scallion pancakes, which may just be the best item on the menu.

Ordered the tofu basket (first time on the vegetables menu) and it only came with 2 pieces of tofu. I asked the server if it was on a sizzling hot plate. She said yes. But nope! It came in a bowl. Food didn't taste very good. Vegetable dumpling was meh. Eggplant was too sweet. This is my second time at Paos. I think they got worse or maybe suck at doing vegetarian dishes.

We just tried to order food. The delivery driver had an issue and when we called to offer to pick it up ourselves, the response was - You are causing the issue and we are throwing your food away. It was the rudest customer service I’ve ever experienced. After years of loyal customer service, it is clear that customers do not matter. Head to Sakura where they have great food and appreciate their customers.
Food was below average, I ordered lemon chicken, it wasn't hot or fresh. The hot and sour soup was pretty good. Not worth price ...maybe for a fast food option but should be cheaper.
Ever since Steve and Linda sold the restaurant it completely sucks! Both times we ate there smaller portions no spice level and cold ! The second time we both got sick! I’ll will never go back ! I miss our long time friends Steve and Linda!
The attitude of the person working is horrible; I walked in first thing and was asked in a rude manner as if I were an inconvenience. He then said Come here and when I went to order. I asked for no MSG or Salt, told me that Chicken already had it on it, I said that was fine, but please don't add any more, and other items please don't add any. He said Don't understand why, it's already in there, I would appreciate the least amount possible. Needless to say, we won't be back
Food and service have declined significantly under new ownership. They are riding the wave of years of great food and service for now, but that will not last. I will go elsewhere moving forward.
First time and last time. Not too pleasant with the customer service at the door- get in get out feeling. No real input on menu items. No real service. You eat you go. Now! More rice than chicken. Don't recommend.
1 star We’ve celebrated my husband’s birthday at Pao’s for years so he can enjoy their Peking duck — and we always called ahead as instructed. This year, I called three times to confirm, including the day before and an hour prior. Each time I was told no wait. But when we arrived, we were told it would be 25 minutes, and the front staff refused to take responsibility. The food was disappointing, no apology was offered, and the whole experience felt careless. Sadly, we won’t be back. Something has changed, and not for the better.
