My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to catch the Dodgers Phillies game before heading back to our campsite in the Alabama Hills. I think Mt Whitney Restaurant was the only place in Lone Pine with TVs so we decided to give it a go. What a wonderful experience. There were two ladies working the entire restaurant and we had amazing service. So attentive and kind with no push to rush us out. My boyfriend had the patty melt and absolutely loved it. I had a standard cheeseburger and it hit the spot. We split mozzarella sticks which were also fantastic. Saw some girls come in for ice cream as well as they have a full scoop service / milkshake machine available as well. What a lovely spot. Definitely recommend !!!!
Most important: I like the foods every time I come there. Homemade Soup of the day, please keep it. Very good sandwich or burger, berry pie with coffee. I have to wait for preparation in nice clean restaurants. That is average.
Just what you’d expect from a small town burger restaurant. The bison burger & chicken steak burgers were great tasting, without the heavy fat aftertaste. Side order of their homemade BBQ sauce- smooth yet tangy and full of flavor- delicious. The price was a bit hefty , but the competition just isn’t there.
Really cool restaurant, the service was great. Candace was a great waitress and was very attentive, she provided great recommendations and provided excellent service. I ordered the Beef dip and it came out hot and plentiful. The overall experience was great and would recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through.
Fantastic place in Lone Pine, typical American Deep East, with good burgers and good beers. Very friendly and fast waitress service. After crossing Death Valley, it tasted wonderful. I loved how it was set, with dedicated photos of many actors, from typical Western movies. Totally recommended.
Absolutely OUTSTANDING! We had intended on eating at a different place but after seeing pictures on social media of all of the pictures, ambiance and food we made a change of plans (thankfully) We had a wonderful time. Food was incredible, service welcoming, warm and friendly. We walked around the entirety of the restaurant about four times to look at all of the pictures and the theme was so captivating. So much so that I completely forgot to order dessert. They had what looked like homemade pies that looked amazing. That'll be on my list for our next visit. We will absolutely be back and encourage those in the area to experience the Mt Whitney Restaurant. It's really worth it.
Our server Tina was amazing. I would highly recommend stopping here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner anytime on you way to Mammoth.

Outstanding food, reasonably priced. Ser ice was a bit off but we weren't in a hurry. There’s a bar. Also outdoor dining but it was too cold.
In addition to food service, Mt. Whitney Restaurant in Lone Pine is also somewhat of a local museum. There’s a lot of history stored here. Old photos adorn every wall, and historical items fill shelves and display cases nearly everywhere you look. When you walk in it’s almost as though you’ve stepped back in time. For us, the servers seemed indifferent. Maybe it was because the summer season rush had come to an end and everyone was beat. The meals we had over two visits were good enough; not great, but good. For claiming to have the “best burgers in town” we found the patties to be thin and somewhat lacking in taste. The corned beef hash had all the flavor but the portion was rather small. There’s every reason to believe that this restaurant can do better. I’m sure they’ve had better days, but unfortunately we missed out. The coffee cups are quite nice. We bought a couple to commemorate climbing the peak.
I really liked this Lone Pine iconic restaurant. Kind of an old western, bar/cafe... I thought there was a certain kind of charm to the place. First of all, I got there late for dinner hour around 8:30pm, and I quickly ordered up a soup & sandwich combo. The waitress was very friendly and prompt and seemed to be serving both the dining room and bar side as well. So along with an imported Mexican beer, I had a toasted BLT & corned beef soup. No complaints on the food at all and a cold bottle of beer really hit the spot. I would say the menu is what you would expect with American fare but I would also like to add that this place seems to do things the right way. Bottom Line: 8.7 out of 10
Food was good although one of the dish was quite salty. We informed the waitress to advise cook. Candice was awesome. She was alone but informed everyone while serving so that helped ease the impatient customers. All in all good food and friendly staff. I’d come back. Thank you for the discount!!
Well, as I sit here weighing how to review Mt. Whitney Restaurant, I’m trying to pull on anything and everything to give it 5-stars but I can’t find the “thing” to push it from good to great. Overall, I had a good experience, nothing really wrong, but also nothing that stands out. Our group tried a variety of the burgers. I had the Bacon Cheeseburger with fries. We all agreed the burgers were pretty tasty. But that’s kinda where it ends. Not much else to say. Aside from that, I tried the Apple Pie and ice cream for dessert and that was delicious! I really enjoyed this. Service was slow on a few items we asked for. I try not to hold this against any of the places I visit as I know everywhere is understaffed these days and I appreciate the small businesses trying to keep on fighting. There is a limit though and I felt we pushed this limit a few times. In general, if you choose to visit, I believe you’ll enjoy your meal and experience here! I hope you continue to support small/local businesses like I do. I’ll be sure to visit again when I’m in the area and give some other burgers a try.
We were on the road heading home after our trip to Tahoe and needed to find dessert. It was 840 and the restaurant closed at 9. They welcomed all 5 of us to enjoy their menu. The kids had sundaes and we shared a peach pie a la mode and carrot cake. All were delicious! The server was very friendly and the next time we are in the area we will try their "best burgers in town".

Small town cafe full of locals for breakfast. The fancy tourist place was swamped and I definitely scored. Friendly folks and good old fashioned food.

After hiking all day we stopped in and got a burger and my wife got beef tip with pasta. Unfortunately we did not think the food was great. Service was about the same. I really don’t like to give reviews less than four stars and don’t normally do so. There wasn’t anything really bad, it just wasn’t great. The atmosphere was really nice and enjoyed looking at all the movie star photos.
The absolute slam dunk of Mt Whitney Restaurant is the location to the Dow hotel right across the street. What to expect: This is a casual neighborhood/passerby restaurant on the main strip through town. It is not fast food. I did receive my order in 12 minutes. The atmosphere is relaxed with black and white or sepia photos of old western movie stars… although I did see a Clint Eastwood photo… I am not that old. 😆. It appears to be a bit of a local spot too. This diner is located close to hiking and most notably Death Valley. About the Food: I expected something a little higher end to be completely transparent. The venison burger I received was a bit strange in texture, possibly freezer burned a little. I did not finish my onion rings, everything just seemed fast food or frozen type food. I’d love to see a place like this make a dish or two for a signature taste and feel. Unfortunately this was not what “The Typical Tourist” should expect. Absolutely loved the decor, there’s nothing better than paying homage to historic figures in the way Mt Whitney Restaurant does. It is convenient, needs work on food, at least the burger. You will get great personable service when you sit down, in that area, home run.

We stopped for a meal. Food was ok- onion rings were good. Lots of western pictures on the walls. Several beers on tap. Service was fine. My thoughts - nothing special but not bad.
Mom came to town. I warned her. I can take you to breakfast, but wherever you pick service will be bad, but food is ok… I lied! These are our “extra crispy on both sides” hash browns, cold, no crisp. The worst part was the “chicken fried steak” a hard rubber shoe. I ate one bite. It wasn’t fit to eat. The coffee was weak and looked like water. I let both servers know my chicken friend steak was inedible. Not one sorry or anything! Literally, not one word said! The biscuit, gravy, eggs and bacon were perfect! The pictures below are of the food that was paid for of course and not ate.
Horrible , horrible service. Over 10 minutes and still waiting for someone to take our order! If I'm gonna pay 17 bucks for a burger, I expect decent service to go with it.

The bath rooms were dirty, half the food was served while the other half had to wait 15 min. Cold food. Service was horrible. The waitress never checked back. Not friendly.
We never got waited on. The place was not busy. Two other couples came in behind us, and they got waited on, so we walked out.

I've never seen such unprofessional service at any restaurant in the US. First, they served the food without providing cutlery. When we asked for it, the waiter said they didn’t have any because everything was in the dishwasher. Not sure if they expected us to eat with our hands or something. Second, they completely forgot one of the items we ordered, and when we asked about it after a long wait, the server casually said it would take another 45 minutes if we still wanted it. Third, when we inquired about another item on the menu, the waiter said he’d check and come back, but he never returned. The food itself was okay, I guess, but the service was honestly terrible.
I’ve never left a bad review for any restaurant but this was just the worst service experience I’ve ever had. We were a group of 11, on the road and very hungry and stopped for lunch here. Their menu was super confusing; it said that certain parts of the menu comes with three sides and I ordered from that section (Lo-Cal Plate) and 40 minutes of waiting later, they said that it doesn’t come with any side, even though I specifically asked about it beforehand. They didn’t even put out cutlery for all of us and we had to ask for it separately. Randomly forgot parts of our order and messed up the bill at the very end. At least, if the food was good, there would be some consolation but the fish in the fish and chips platter smelled weird (almost stale), was oily and didn’t have seasoning. Maybe they had an understaffing issue, the servers were cordial and everything, but the experience was just horrible. I left hungry and having to order food from outside after.
I had high hopes for this place, especially with their bold claim of serving "the best burgers in town." Unfortunately, my experience couldn't have been further from the truth. Let's start with the burger itself: it was burnt to the point where any flavor the patty might have had was completely obliterated. The texture was dry and unpleasant, and the entire thing was utterly tasteless. Even the toppings and condiments couldn't save it—they were either sparse or uninspired. Then, there's the price. For what I paid, I was expecting something truly exceptional. Instead, I got a mediocre burger that even a budget fast-food chain like Carl's Jr. could easily outshine. And that's saying a lot because Carl's Jr. isn't exactly the gold standard of burgers. Overall, this was a huge letdown. Overpriced, poorly cooked, and flavorless—this burger joint is proof that great advertising doesn’t always translate to great food. Save your money and your taste buds; this place is not worth it.
