What a meal! My son had seen several posts on Facebook so we tried it today. I had liver and onions. Hadn’t had in years so this was a nice treat. Moist, tender with just the right amount of onions and gravy (a lot!!!). The collard’s were tender with ham and smoked sausage. Another welcome treat. Blackeye peas were also tender and flavorful. Cornbread to die for and cake. Really fair prices and great service. Go ahead and purchase the to go boxes because you will need them. We will definitely be back.

Well this is soul food and is good. I love the greens , carrots, rice broccoli, peas, cornbread, meatloaf .. I enjoyed my meal and the sweet tea was sweet. Some meals maybe salty for some folks but I enjoyed it. Next time I will share my plate because this a lot of food. Cobbles and cake I enjoyed too ..

This place has excellent food and good service and atmosphere. It's better than Furr's or Golden Coral. Some people just want to complain about everything. Everything is SO good here! If you want real home cooked food but not have to cook it you can’t go wrong. Their collard greens are on point, I could eat their okra and tomatoes everyday! The cabbage, fresh baked biscuits and the desserts are delicious! You literally cannot go wrong with anything you get here. The portions are huge too! My husband and I could easily share a plate. The prices blew me away, especially nowadays. You have to check them out!!

We stopped in Lubbock for gas and while he was pumping I was looking for something fast and healthy - being super hungry for vegetables. I found Doc's Cafeteria and their star rating had us heading across town and through road construction for lunch. Desiree was very warm and welcoming, even checking on us during our meal. I had black-eyed peas, broccoli rice, a salad, and cornbread - then I saw the desserts!! I am soooooo full but my tummy is happy. You'll want to make this place your go to place for good food.

The food was good, the service was that down home type service where you expect to be called "honey" in that great country way that makes you smile. It was around 1pm and they were busy but the food was hot and good and the price was excellent. The only down side was it was hot in there. If it was 10 degrees cooler it would have gotten 5 stars all over. Overall i would go here again just for the customer service. We were a party of four and none of us had a complaint about the food. The chicken was delicious, the sides were great, and they had some unique desserts that tasted so good.

I always get Docs when I come to Lubbock. Their food never misses, however the only problem I have with them is that you never get any to go silverware with your to go order. That's why I give service a four out of five

We went to Doc’s tonight and got it to go! Everyone was so nice and the food was fantastic! I got my Dad a plate, as well, and his response was “Wow Wow Wow… Maybe, just maybe, the best meal I have ever had!” He loves home cooking. It was, for sure, the best meat loaf I have ever had and I’m pretty proud of the one I make at home! We will be back again and again!

Absolutely amazing and their patience was just as amazing, and make sure to give a thumbs up for the Okra lol. The food I got deserves the attention and the Tomatoe Orka was one of my favorites, the sausage links weren't spicey like some and instead it was sweet which was the most tastiest sausage I've had. The corn and green beans were perfectly buttered and I also got some Mac and cheese but I ate it too fast for it to be in the picture but it was sooooo good, and a little creamy. Lastly the mashed potatoes, they were the perfect thickness and the added gravey wasn't salty like most gravey I've had. Over all, highly recommend for the price, good food and customer service

We had lunch today, August 11th. I had fried catfish, not white fish, actual, delicious catfish. H had CFS, okra & tomatoes, mashed potatoes @ gravy, collard greens, cabbage, green salad and everything was delicious! I haven’t eaten stewed okra for 50 years. I remember the last time vividly, it had cheez whiz on it and we were dinner guests. We ate the okra. 😅 When husband selected it today, I giggled. They looked so good I had to have a taste. I’ll be getting my own next time.Sunday Special is Chicken & Dressing, I bet that good, too!

I only write reviews of either the best or the worst restaurants in which I have eaten. My folks have been in Louisiana for many generations. We love to grow, cook and eat southern cuisine (AKA Soul food). I was shocked to discover that "Doc's Cafeteria" in Lubbock, TX serves food as if it came right off my grandmother's, my mother's or my wife's dinner table! They offer a big variety of meats, vegetables and deserts. The tea is southern sweet! Their portions are huge for a price that will satisfy anyone. The owner and staff are very pleasant folks that aim to please. If you like that kind of food, don't miss Doc's Cafeteria!

Having been to a lot of eateries lately this is one place I thought was one the best out of town places I've been to. Doc's Cafeteria was a soul food and a cajun restaurant wrap up into one with a buffet twist. I think the food was awesome and the hospitality was just as good. If you are ever in Lubbock, Texas I would definitely recommend this place.

We had been wanting to try them for a while, especially since furrs (my husband's favorite place) is gone forever! We went and had lunch here today and we cannot say enough good things about the entire experience! Starting the moment we walked in the door we were welcomed by ladies in the front, and spoken to like we were entering their home for lunch. The choices are slightly overwhelming, but makes for you to have plenty of options! Definitely something for everyone!! The food is absolutely delicious. Every single thing on our plates was insanely good. I wish I had pictures, but our favorites were the greens, cabbage, and black eyed peas. You cannot beat the price for the amount of food we got. $34 for both of us, including drinks and dessert. And we both easily had another meal worth of food to take home. Service, food, and price were all excellent. Thank y'all for such a great experience! We will definitely be returning!! ❤️

As a Mississippian native and Houston resident, I love some good soul food, especially at a reasonable price!!! This place is the definition of a home cooked meal! What I also appreciate is how they offer a variety of food. There was so much to choose from. And they offer different combo options so you can get as many sides as you want! The staff were very kind. I believe they were all family. You can tell that the community really enjoys this food by the way people were constantly coming in. I got their chicken dressing that came with a chicken thigh. For my sides, I got their collard greens, glazed carrots, mac & cheese and an extra side of broccoli rice & cheese casserole. It came with cornbread, a dessert, and ice cream. You can feed a family with that. And it was all under $20. Houston would never! The quality of the food was delicious!!! Seasoned well and full of flavor. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant whenever you can!

Everyone there was very nice and wholesome, very welcoming and happy to help with my order, food came in good portions for the price, however it could use less of sodium, sides were very salty, but overall food was great.

We arrived just before it opened at 11 AM, but they didn't open the door until 11:05 and there was a line of older folks standing outside when we arrived. The food wasn't ready, and then the cash register froze and backed up the line and by the time we paid and sat down, the food was cold. The meatloaf, spaghetti, and cornbread were delicious!! The gravy (both brown and white) was not very good, but we couldn't put our finger on why... maybe a spice. It wasn't professional for service, more like a family run gig you'd find at a flea market. Food was mostly like you'd have at your neighbors potluck, not "chef" quality by any means. It was extremely noisy!!

Don't wanna bash this place too hard cause it's got potential and I like the selection. But I'm not sure if it was just an off day but alot of the food was overly salty and don't get me wrong I love salt. But this was salty to the point of being inedible. The cabbage were inedible because of saltiness, my beef tips was a hit and miss of super salty and bland as can be, cheesey spaghetti was really salty but edible enough. This is beyond unacceptable . The entire order was not edible. Everything was mushy sloppy and taste like tons of salt. I ordered Salmon croquettes and i couldn’t identify what I bit into. The Mac was just mush . The broccoli and rice was watery . Even the cake had an off putting flavor. -

I’ve actually never given a poor rating on here, so let that speak for itself. I use this platform to promote small businesses, however, we walked in to Docs today with the intention of bringing a party of 12 for a birthday—we came in much earlier than the rest of our party by the way (we didn’t just show up with 12 people). We asked someone if they would let us move two tables together. When they started to help, the owner or glorified manager (I assume), started yelling from across the restaurant that we could not do that. She also saw that we had a cake and yelled that we could not bring desserts in. Embarrassed, we told them we’d just take our business somewhere else. I actually understand the concept of not bringing desserts in to some establishments, but for a buffet style kitchen, it doesn’t make sense—you’re going to pay the same amount no matter what. We easily would have spent $200 in this place. DO NOT GO HERE. I will say that the frontline staff were pleasant and willing to be helpful. I hope they find a better employer to work for.

Nasty attitudes match their food for sure

Disappointing food. We went in with high hopes and were let down. It was lunch time. Not busy. Food was either too salty or cold. Folks were friendly though. We won’t be back.

Our food was Luke warm at best, looked and tasted terrible. All of the food in the looked like it wasn’t made today or even yesterday. The place was dingy dirty. Homeless peeps at the front door begging for money. Definitely a big disappointment and wouldn’t recommend.

We will not be back. We paid $45 for 3 of us and no one ate. The pork chops were so tough you couldn’t cut them. Especially with a plastic knife. The salad was wilted, the dressing was sour (1000 island) and the rice was mushy like mashed potatoes. I have never had such terrible food from a restaurant. So guys do not waste your money there.

We were very disappointed in Doc’s. It was very difficult to see selections through steamy glass. Green beans were so salty that we couldn’t eat them. Chicken fried steak was prebreaded, not homemade. Banana pudding seemed to be instant banana pudding with a few vanilla wafer crumbles and no banana. The roast was tender and tasty. Maybe I made poor choices. 😢

Defiantly not a buffet. U get one piece of meat I asked for two and she charged me extra, you do get 5 side the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese were okay the green beans, broccoli cheese rice, and ranch on the salad tasted so sour that our jaws clenched! I went I’m starving and not even half way lost all my appetite. Will never ever go back and will be warning people to not go waste your money! Spent 32 dollars and we could hardly stomach the food.

Do Not believe the reviews. This place is garbage. It is so hard to find a good place to eat. Did I say this place is garbage!!!! COMPLETE GARBAGE

I was extremely disappointed in the food! Very cold seemed like had been there for days! I was looking very forward to enjoy a great meal being we traveled 45 to dine. Do not recommend

Good food. I’ve only gotten the chance to eat there twice out of 9 times I’ve tried because thy always seem to close early on the days I want to come by 😂😭
