This was my second time here and gosh I really love the food here. I think this will become my go to Tuesday nights lol. Dollar Tacos are probably the best value taco around that I’ve had. I would say the taco isn’t the best in Lubbock, but it isn’t the most expensive either and in a good location for me and my wife. So location price and flavor I’m going to say one of the better tacos on a Tuesday night in Lubbock haha
Please don't let the outside look turn you away... get in and enjoy the most MEXICAN and Delicious food in Lubbock. Modern decoration, nice music and wonderful service... Amazing Menu dishes and prices. Don't take longer to go because is going to become also your favorite place to eat. Riquisimo.
We came and ate here for the first time! The salsa was so good, and then we got the fajita beef nachos! OMG so yummy, we will definitely be back to try some more! The staff was so polite and sweet !
This place has authentic Mexican food, which we have been looking for in Lubbock for a while. It's smallish and feels very diner-like. We were there for lunch on a Sunday. I had the 3 soft taco lunch with asada. They were fantastic. The rice was okay, the beans were great! Hubby had a carnitas torta and can't stop talking about how good it was. The service was good too. We had a bit of a wait for our food because they were busy, but not too bad, and multiple servers made sure our drinks and chips were refilled. Definitely will make this our go-to Mexican food place.
Our server was kind respectful and helpful. Wore a mask and could still tell he was smiling. Very polite. The food, excellent!!!! Thank you Mar y Tierra for a great date night with my hubby. God bless you all.
Very good authentic Mexican Restaurant, when i ordered 5 min later my food was at the table. I also love supporting small business Restaurants like this so they can continue to serve food that you cannot get at your usual fast food places, there just aren't enough of them around after Covid. My hat's off to them and i suggest if you love Authentic Mexican food, fast and friendly service then try them out you won't be disappointed.
Food was pretty good. We were a party of 20 and they did a great job! They kept cups full and gave us plenty of attention. One of the ladies mentioned some of the waitresses were new. I couldn't tell.
We love their food. It's very good. The young man that served us yesterday was outstanding. Not very good at carry out. Better to dine in.
The food is always so good! The salsa is unique to Lubbock and crave worthy. This reminds me of the great food I've had in central Mexico. The wait staff are usually attentive and helpful. This new building was nice.
The food was excellent. The service was great. Atmosphere was good. The restaurant was clean. I’m going back again. Price was reasonable. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
First time being there. service is great. very friendly environment food was brought out very fast, and wow yes it was finger licking good i recommend anyone please swing by and enjoy a very delicious meal friendly environment good people
Great service and great food. I just had the street tacos, but I was all about it. They were delightful. The staff was competent and friendly. I enjoyed myself immensely!
Love eating here! Delicious food, great service! 😋
Had never been and legitimately had one of the best things I have ever eaten, atmosphere was cool food came out fast and staff was very friendly
Son wanted to go here for his birthday dinner, and it was great. Fantastic food and a very good atmosphere but of course I had good company.
100% authentic chow. And finally, someone who isn’t afraid to make a salsa that’s actually “hot”. Even my father in law liked it and he hates everything. Well done. Next time I’m in Lubbock, I’ll be back.
My fiance and I have dined here multiple times now, we have never once been let down. The food is always excellent, and the staff are outstanding. If you're a fan of spicy salsa, you'll love the salsa here.
This maybe the best carne asada plate I ever had. The meat was very tender. Rice and beans were perfect. For dessert, we had churro and sopapillas.
Waitress Ashely was the best! She is super friendly
First time here and food was delicious, we didn’t have to wait at all although the restaurant was full of customers. Service was awesome too, I don’t remember his name but he was very attentive with our table. We ordered large Menudo and Barbacoa plate (pictures posted too)
We live about 25 minutes from Mar Y Tierra and we try to go at least once a week! This is our favorite go to👌! You can get breakfast or whatever you want all day!!! I usually have one pancake when we go plus my one enchilada! LOVE this place! Always nice, friendly and clean!
Good food, great flavors, and real good service. A bit of a wait at times, but well worth it. We've driven past this place many times, finally stopped in. Glad we did.
This place has great chips and salsa! My party loved the enchiladas and tacos. My quesadillas were good. The staff was very friendly. We sat for 10 or so minutes waiting for our check... you actually pay at the front, but no one told us.
Place was dead today..... something has changed. Was Very authentic Mexican food - flavors are genuinely delicious. Service is great and they are sweet yet organized and food comes out hot and fresh. Clean place and friendly.
The food was great! We were there on Thursday. Three adults and two young children. The young man that waited on us was so nice, helpful and quick to get us everything we needed. (and we needed a lot)I will definitely be back!
Ended up here on a whim and glad we came. The food is simple but really good, and I love that they have breakfast all day! The barbacoa was prepared really straightforwardly, not over-sauced, which I liked - it was relying on the flavor of the meat itself, which was incredibly tender. The migas were perfect comfort food. We'll be back for sure.
The food is great. Service was great. The restaurant was clean and very comfortable. Also, the prices were more affordable. We will return again.
Love the Caldo you Reyes! Salsa was good and the offered a selection to choose from.
Came specifically for some Caldo de Pollo. This is one of the few places in Lubbock that serves real Mexican cuisine. 99% of the other restaurants in Lubbock that call themselves Mexican, have nothing to do with real Mexican cuisine. They are Southwestern cuisine restaurants, and most serve food that comes out of a can or a bag. Mar Y Tierra is different. While they do serve some Southwestern cuisine dishes, they also serve some outstanding real Mexican dishes like Caldo De Reís, and Pollo. I encourage you to come on by and give them a try.
The food is wonderful here! Everything tastes very fresh. The flavors authentic. Whenever I am at a location that serves chips and salsa, I always have a hard time getting enough chips and salsa and drink refills. So that's probably just me. 😳 I'm not a fan of the music videos playing on the large screen. The music is fine, but some of the videos were a little risque for my taste. Wouldn't want my son's to see that. Thankfully, there is seating where the screen cannot be seen, but if we go with a larger group all the seating is in the main area where are the screen is visible. Again, this is probably*just me.*
We have frequented this place on so many different occasions. Sometimes, even before our movie, since the theatre is right behind here. I do recommend the shrimp ceviche as an appetizer for the table, sooo yummy, on the menu it's called a Botana. If you're the only one who wants to try it, then just get a shrimp ceviche tostada.
My first time at new location on 82nd Street and I found it to be wonderful. The employees were courteous, the restaurant was clean and breakfast burritos AMAZING!! I will definitely be returning for lunch or dinner in the near future.
The food was delicious and very hot and fresh. The staff very nice specifically Angel she did very good with our refills and chips!!
Food is ALWAYS great. Service is exceptional..music a TAD to loud..bit otherwise we love to go there. Once or twice weekly
Tried Mar Y Tierra Mexican Restaurant and wow — definitely a new favorite. The salsa is so good a d the tortilla chips are fresh and delicious! The food came out hot, fresh, and packed with flavor, and the portions were generous. Staff was super friendly and made us feel welcome the whole time. Great atmosphere, great service, and seriously delicious food! Already planning my next visit! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
First time in on Sunday after church. They were quite busy but got us seated quickly. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. A new favorite spot!
Very good food and service. If you like Mexican food you will love it.
Food was great! Love the family oriented vibes going on in there! La meseras were beautiful and super friendly!
2nd day in a row after coming yesterday with my friend for lunch. So delicious and reasonable prices. Service was great and friendly. I brought my better half for dinner tonight. He got the Buarria Tacos and I got the two beef tacos with rice and beans. Everything was seasoned to perfection IMO.
If you’re looking for a place that feels like a hug from your abuelita — but with more salsa options than you knew existed — Mar Y Tierra is the spot. First off, the menudo here isn’t just good — it’s life-changing. The broth is spicy in the best way, like it’s giving you a motivational speech with every spoonful. Tender hominy, perfectly cooked beef, and that slow-burn spice that clears your sinuses and your bad decisions from the night before? 10/10. Now, let’s talk about the barbacoa burrito. I’m convinced they had to call in extra reinforcement to roll it — that thing was stuffed with so much juicy, flavorful barbacoa it felt like eating a small, delicious pillow of happiness. Every bite was a reminder that life is too short to eat small burritos. And the salsa bar… Oh, the salsa bar! It’s like someone asked, “How can we make people even happier?” and the answer was: “More salsa.” Green, red, smoky, spicy, chunky, smooth — if salsa were an Olympic sport, Mar Y Tierra would have a wall full of gold medals. Plot twist: We also tried the pancakes. Let me tell you, they were so warm, fluffy, and perfectly crisp around the edges, I had flashbacks to sitting in my grandma’s kitchen — except here, I didn’t have to do the dishes afterward. They’re the kind of pancakes that make you seriously consider ordering breakfast and lunch at the same time. And I can’t forget the staff — some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Everyone was so friendly, smiling like they actually wanted you there (which, sadly, is rare these days!). It felt like visiting family, if your family actually liked you and brought you endless drink refills. Final verdict: If you leave Mar Y Tierra hungry or grumpy, that’s a personal problem. Five stars, two thumbs up, and a full, happy heart. Bring your appetite — and maybe a nap schedule for afterward.
I finally found a mole in Lubbock that's delicious! The balance of heat and flavor was spot on. A member of my party ordered that, another did enchiladas suizas, and I had the tres amigos which was a chille rellano, hard taco, and cheese enchilada. The only partial negative thing I'd say is that the enchiladas suizas needed more sauce. The chips and salsa were great. The atmosphere and service were friendly and welcoming.
We have ate here several times. Ordered pick up once. The pick up was our most recent. The sad thing was to get chips and salsa for our call in order we had to pay extra. If dining in they come with your meal :( my husband had beef enchiladas and I had Menudo. Yep this white girl loves a good Menudo!!!! I will be ordering it again, soon. We have yet to be disappointed at this restaurant, the 82nd Street location. So having to pay extra for call in chips and salsa with our order was my only complaint.
The breakfast was delicious. Salsa was fresh. Our waitress was precious. But they ran out if huevos. At breakfast time. That was disappointing. Overall, great experience and atmosphere. We'll be coming back again!
One of my fave stops on 82nd. Always greeted with smiles. Servers are attentive. Carne guisada is very tasty served with beans and rice which are super fresh and beautifully seasoned. Not crazy about the tortillas wrapped in foil being served on top of the rice...doesnt seem sanitary, that would be the only thing i would change as a business owner.
The food was amazing! The salsa with the chips are homemade tasting. Prices are seemingly fair. The atmosphere was nice, pretty clean, some seats have wear and tear on them. Our waitress was nice and pleasant, but beyond that, the service was mediocre. Didn't come by to check for refills. They had a salsa bar that we didn't know about or (wasn't told about) till the end of the meal, and saw a few customers go up and use it. There is nothing indicating that it exists. Just wish the waitress would have mentioned it is all. Maybe update the menus to include it, pr some signage.
Got take-out. Carne Guisada plate is good. Fajitas lacked seasoning & flavor, cheap beef & chicken won't do.
I must say that after 15 years living in Texas and trying many Mexican restaurants, this is the place where I have tried the best horchata! Simply delicious! The salsa was also one of my favorites but just because it tastes similar to some of the ones we make in the Caribbean countries. Great service. My chicken soup was very good. My husband had liver and he liked it. We didn’t give 5 starts only because the potatoes that came with the liver were half done. The rest of the experience was good. Highly recommended
We went there for the first time for breakfast and it was very good and we had a really good waitress we even ordered a couple of breakfast plates to take out for our daughter and her husband I will go back and try some of their other plates of food and the prices were very reasonable 😋😋😋
I enjoyed it. The salsa was unique and spicy. The enchiladas I ordered were labeled as "very spicy" on the menu but had very little heat. That's the only reason i knocked a star off.
We ate here for lunch, never been here, so my evaluation was ok to try the food is good the service is very good and they are very attentive, professional and friendly. I had the carne guisada, and my wife had the huevos rancheros. Bathrooms are clean as well as the dining area. The salsa is good but thin and kinda watery. The flour tortillas are fresh, so they have to be eaten pretty quickly. Otherwise, they get hard on the edges. Very good prices for the amount of food you get. It's worth a try, many good choices of food. The rice is ok, the beans are good but the carne guisada is great, so tender.
Made a spontaneous stop here and glad we did! We got seated as soon as we walked in. Got a plate of chips and salsa right away. The salsa was a green salsa which had chunks of jalapeño, white onion, and looked like green onion. It was good! I love my salsas to have a good kick and this one was addicting. I ordered some tacos and hubs got the caldo de 7 mares. He said it had a good kick to it as well. I got two tacos de tripas which were crispy and done good, two de asada, and one el pastor. All of them were good! Felt bad bc they were already closed and we were still enjoying our food. Only con: Aguas frescas don't get refills.
This is an authentic restaurant. It is moderately priced. They serve breakfast all day and have a good kids menu. The food was good. The Aqua Fresca was very yummy. We enjoyed spending time with our family here. It is a good place to visit when you are craving a good variety of Mexican food.
It lacks more flavor. Starting from the green salsa which is really runny has no flavor or salt. Not all food is bland but they can focus more on seasoning. Service is great.
The hot sauce is amazing. The Barbacoa is great. But the only good dish is the breakfast chilaquilles with green sauce. Tried other lunch and dinner plates and they were not good.
The quality of the fajitas for 2 was not what we expected for a Mexican Food restaurant. Some of the tortillas that went with the fajitas for 2 were dry. The pork that was on the fajitas for 2 was dry and not tender. We did not (could not) eat it. Not much steak on the fajitas for 2. Enough for 1 person The barbacoa plate and enchilada plate were good. My grandson enjoyed the seafood plate he ordered. It looked good. Waitress was able to take care of us in a timely manner.
The place was dead in the middle of dinner hour. Should of been my first clue. Mediocre food, no drink refills. Subpar service. Dont waste your time.
We have been here multiple times and usually I would give this location at least 4 stars. Unfortunately our visit today was not as pleasant. Today we had the opportunity to have a manager from another location named Norma as our waitress. After walking in and asking for a booth for 4 she responded with a rude tone and comment. When she seated us she gave us a booth with food covering the floor under our table. After asking it to be swept we received more attitude along with menus covered in more food. Not only was her customer service aweful she refused to wear her mask as anything other than an accessory only covering her chin. With COVID being so contagious I would not recommend this location after even management has made it obvious that the cleanliness and the safety of others is not there priority.
Everything was good, only down side was the flour tortillas and not getting shrimp with our parillada… tortillas seemed like they were heated up in a microwave and our parilla was supposed to come with shrimp.. at that point I didn’t even bother asking for it.
Came by for the first time. Ordered a Carne Asada burrito. She said 12 dollars, I told her I did not want plate. I was told that's the price. It was just meat rolled in the tortilla. I'll keep my business on 19th st.
We went to have a Mother’s Day lunch- we waited for a server to come to us for a long time. Finally have a really nice server come and get our drink orders and give us menus. Turns out that wasn’t our server and we got a server who said he was new. No big deal. I work in the industry. Well, he would walk past our table with empty drinks. I hate doing it but I flagged down the other waitress twice to get them. He was up at the desk talking and drinking a drink. We never really eat here and I don’t think we’ll be back.
Mar Y Tierra on 19th is my favorite place to eat. Since it was past 5pm I went to the location off of 82nd Street. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS LOCATION! 1st off I am highly allergic to avocado. The location on 19th always does so well with my allergy. I told the waitress this 3 times durning ordering my meal. When I received my plate. It had guacamole on it. I told her I cant even have it on the same plate I am so allergic. They took the plate wiped off the guacamole and brought back the same food. They DO NOT under how allergies work as this could kill somone! She did take it back once more and I belive they remade it. I asked for no onions and my plate was topped with onions. My tripas was over fried and yoy could tell they didn't clean them well as they were bitter. The waitress never came to check on us once we had our food. She only came back to the table once we're were finished and we're about to leave. Very disappointed. I will not go back to this location.
The service was not good and the food is below average. I ordered tres animales (shrimp, scallops, and octopus) and no shrimp was in it and the scallops and octopus was rubber. My husband had the whole fish and it was over cooked and dry. My son liked the enchiladas but he is not picky. We were surprised it was so busy. Maybe it was a bad night for them.
If I could I would give zero stars. We ordered queso dip that didn’t come till after the meal. And we didn’t even have chips. We didn’t eat the food. Service was poor I had to get up to go ask for silverware because we had our food for about 5 minutes. Whatever you do don’t order the menudo it was disgusting. It tastes like it came from a can from the store. The hominy was uncooked. I will never eat here again. I spent over $50 for 2 adults and 2 kids not worth it at all! Staff was rude.
I was there yesterday and all I wanted was to sit down and eat. I had a long day at work. The waitress cashier stated, " sit anywhere you want. So, I did. I chose a seat where it was private. Not five minutes later we were asked to move. Myself and my family did not enjoy our meal because I was not happy we had to move.. . Nevertheless, the cashier apologized but she snatched my money because I was not given a ticket (bill), made an ugly face. Mar y Tierra is not on my places to family dine.
We went in today and ate during lunch time and both my husband and I got sick too our stomachs called the restaurant and spoke to manager Aricely. And she said, all there food is fresh it couldn't have been them. Tried to blame it on what I ate yesterday. Seriously!! I will not be going back!! Oh and the cook had his mask under his nose. 🤮
Horrible experience! They tell you have a seat anywhere but all the tables were dirty and not ready for service Food order was incorrect and even when was I explicit on the fact I have food allergies.Asked for no avocado in shrimp cocktail and it was added. So I I gave it to my wife and ordered another and she brought out avocado??? ORDERED BEEF GOT CHICKEN AND THEN WAS CHARGED FOR THE CORRECTION. Mind you she wrote all this down and still got the entire order wrong.I DIDN'T COMPLAIN I JUST PAID AND LEFT. DO NOT GO HERE
This is by far THE WORST PLACE!! My son ordered the kids chicken strips and they were so hard they felt like a piece of wood. I ordered street tacos no onions and no cilantro and of course the tacos were covered in both onions and cilantro. We complained about most of our items and the manager didn't offer to take care of the situation. Paid 30 dollars for food that wasmeft onthe table. STAY AWAY!!
Food was ok but it was better than service waitress never came by to see if i needed anything they need to be retrained on customer service
Had them cater our meeting yesterday and BEANS WERE BURNED. ENCHILADAS were definitely nothing to brag about, but eatable. Don't recommend the catering, in house food has always been good. So never assume you're getting the same. NEVER AGAIN!! 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽( Lubbock location, delivered to Levelland location. (( BY OWNER/MANAGER ))
Went for lunch on a Friday and it was not busy at all. Several empty tables. Waited 30 minutes for our cheese enchiladas and my husband ordered his with green sauce and they had none. We would have said something but did not have another 30 minutes to wait for our food. Also the food was not hot. The only reason I gave 1 star is because the guacamole was good. I let the waitress know and all she had to say was oh I didn’t notice. No wonder the place was empty!
My sister enjoyed her food but my food was not what I ordered and still was not what I ordered when they brought it back. And the waitress only made excuses then walked away from us in the middle of placing an additional side order. Then someone else took care of us after the rude waitress walked away. We won't be back. And it was expensive!
Waitress was very rude. We ordered sopapillas and waitress gave us a empty bottle of honey when asked for another one she said another customer had it. Please get more honey! Food was decent and authentic Mexican food. Maybe we'll try again in the future.
Staff is not very helpful and inconvenience by your request. The one thing you will notice are the floors. They are really dirty. I brought it to someone's attention and they said ok. But nothing was done. Food is ok but not worth the price. As we are walking out there were 2 servers on their phones as there were atleast 4 tables to be cleaned and still no one would sweep the floors. If your restaurant is dirty in the dinning area how clean is their kitchen.
Was looking for something different aside from our usuals, we walked in with high hopes since we’ve been hearing nothing but good about this place. Service was 2/10. Service was slow, Restaurant wasn’t busy. We had a different waiter every-time somebody came to the table. Our food was 4/10. My husbands and I food was cold, looked as if it had been sitting out for days. My gorditas tasted like old burned grease. To top it off, I wake up the next morning with food poisoning… hope ur experience is better than mine 🙃
The service was really slow it took them like 30 minutes for are food to come out!!!!
I usually have good reviews on restaurants but this one is not good. Went in for a bite,we got seated got our chips and hot sauce two glasses of water and looked over the menu. Our waitress never came back ,we waited for 20 minutes till we finally got up to leave. I walked up to the young man to pay for the water and chips he said no charge and asked why we were leaving. I told him the reason, he apologized and left. And they weren't busy either only three other tables were full . Maybe I'll be back in the future.
Food was OK We come to Lubbock for doctors appointments and this time we want to try something different so we pick Mexican restaurant. it’s not a place that you would say “oh man I have to go back it was so good”. We were disappointed . Husband had the fajitas. They give you two tortillas don’t know why there’s only enough meat (beef ) for one. I had the huevos rancheros nothing special about them just one corn tortilla one egg on top handful of beans and potatoes and they bring you some kind of tomato onion sauce to put on top. I was expecting when I order huevos rancheros for it to have corn tortilla cheese, onions and red chili on top with an egg I really didn’t look at the menu on how they made it because every restaurants i’ve been to made it that way if you’re looking for huevos rancheros with red chili this is not the place expect to pay $9.99 for 1 corn tortilla, 1 egg, handful beans and handful potatoes
Our waitress started off ok then started being rude to my husband and I. She wasn't attentive. The food wasn't good at all. No flavor. We won't be eating there again.
It was going good, until my plate arrived and I was eating my enchilada when, I found two pieces of hard plastic or clear epoxy in the enchilada. The waitress asked if she could have the kitchen remake my plate but I said no. There was no I'm sorry from anyone.
