This place is fabulous! The food is delicious, the best potato salad I ever tried. Also we got a fried rolls as a compliment - Omg! I will never forget them! Sarah is wonderfull worker and person in general. Highly recommend!

Been eating here for more than 30 years and never had a bad meal. The sliced beef is our favorite but everything they make is delicious.. especially their fried rolls! And the waitresses always friendly.

Outstanding! The meats were perfect, the beans were awesome trail style, the potato salad was good, the waite staff was young and fun, the place.was clean, just a great experience for my wife and I. The fried pies and fried bread was a treat. While I didn't have any of the poltry, I have no reason the think it would be less than the beef and pork. All in all great local fare.

My husband and I stopped in for lunch on a Tuesday and it was FANTASTIC! The rolls they serve are so yummy. The sides were great but the meat was especially outstanding. We had no complaints whatsoever. We were afraid after eating BBQ at Blacks in Lockhart that we would never be able to find as good anywhere else. Well we were wrong and happily so :-) Now that we have moved to the deep East Texas area there we will most certainly be back.

Came to Lufkin for the day, and found this amazing place! The food was absolutely amazing. I’ve never had anything that tasted that good. Their potato salad was to die for. And then cole slaw was just perfect, how it should taste. Overall, definitely will be coming back!

We were traveling and stopped in and the service and food were EXCELLENT!! They serve you rolls before your meal and omgosh melt in your mouth. The meat was so tender and well cooked and seasoned. I HIGHLY recommend this spot to EVERYONE!! ❤

I’ve always loved the uniqueness of their style. The fried rolls, cherry peppers, homemade signature potato salad, and mostly the hickory smoked meat. It’s all delicious!!! Great Bar BQ. We have been to Lufkin Bar BQ several times since moving to Lufkin. This place is fantastic. The meats are delicious, the service is great and the people are very friendly. Their rolls are unbelievably good. If your in Lufkin try it out. You won’t be disappointed.

We are glad that it is still as good as it was in the 1960s when we would eat there on high school dates. Love the fried rolls with butter and honey ! They are still busy at lunch, but more by the drive through.

The chopped brisket and the fried rolls were absolutely delicious. Oh and the mashed potato salad. Friendly service and atmosphere that was ok with my one year old walking laps through the restaurant… Perfect place to stop for some Texas BBQ on a road trip. We will be back!

This place has no business being this good. The ribs are the best thing on the menu in my opinion, but that's not to say everything else is not amazing as well. I eat here once a week, and I never have a bad meal or experience. Great place!!!

This place is wonderful. We ate there December 2020 and it was clean, friendly, and following all CDC guidelines. The BBQ was really good we had the chopped beef and ribs. Try the potato salad and sweet tea it is truly southern.

The sliced beef was good, but their rolls are the real winners. Service was excellent, lady was nice enough to give us extra rolls togo!

Okay, so I was craving BBQ and my friend being FROM Lufkin and knows all the good spots. First off, those are NOT rolls, they're freaking donuts.... let's be clear, but they are super good.Also the fried pie's are the same dough just w/ a few different pie fillings(probably canned) smeared inside. Not bad though. My only complaint was the old white guy still using very outdated racist slang in which young men of color were in fact employees there and I did not feel comfortable wondering if they heard the man use the term he did, and I know a lot of folks that age are "stuck in their ways" but come on, we know good and well if we don't make the effort to correct people when they use language like that, it just perpetuates and continues into the future which we DON'T WANT! We're in East Texas and I have family who are equally as guilty of using similar language and I know you can tell them over and over again not to say it in front of you and it's like they enjoy watching you cringe at their ignorance.

Stringer's is legendary for their fried rolls. They are fantastic. Everything on the menu is good. The prices are reasonable and the staff are outstanding.

Fast and friendly service. It was my first time here. My fiance said the interior of the restaurant hasn't changed much in 30 years and that the food was still just as good as back in the day. The portions are generous and prices are reasonable.

Sauce was good. Didn't care for the mashed potato salad, rib was a bit dry, but the sausage was was great. Now that I have a better idea of what I like there, I'll go back.

I ordered ribs, beef briskit, and sweet tea. Ribs were very good. I would come back again for the ribs. Briskit was OK. Sauce was OK. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful, I enjoyed talking with her. Affordable prices.

This place has been doing it a long time. Every since I was a kid they have given awesome food and warm smiles every time. Consistency is very important to me and Stringer's delivers just that.

Reputation preceded this place. Maybe it was the end of the day. Someone told me it was worth the drive from BeaumontTexas.gov as it was, we drove 30 minutes (and 30 back) out of our way. ‘Twas good. I’ve had better. Relatively Expensive. Obviously a local legend. The inside of this old restaurant was great! Very old school- like 1970’s? I enjoyed that more than the Q. ;-)

We've tried three BBQ restaurants in Lufkin and this is easily the best. The fried yeast rolls were great, and the meats were nicely smoked. I really enjoyed the pepper rub on the ribs! The beans were my favorite side, the hunks of brisket definitely helped that! Prices are very reasonable and the staff friendly. This is a full-service sit-down restaurant which was a nice change of pace from the typical counter-order/cafeteria style of BBQ restaurants.

OMG the rolls! More like a cross between a donut & a sopapilla! They were wonderful! Food was excellent. Will definitely be back **UPDATE have been several times and the barbecue is inconsistent. Sometimes it is really good and other times it is ok. The rolls are always amazing.

I have been eating here since I was a kid. The food has never changed, and is always good! The fried rolls are the talk of the town. I prefer the chipped beef plate, but have never been disappointed by anything in their menu. Their potato salad is smooth and creamy. The BBQ sauce has a different tang to it than others. I think it's great.

The bar set for me is Rudy's BBQ (yes the chain) because it's pretty darn good with a pretty darn good set up and atmosphere. I give this place marks off for not fat enough fatty (they call it wiggly) brisket slices and no real butter in the entire establishment. Fortunately, they have these amazing donut rolls and packages of real honey-just no real butter but margarine instead. They absolutely need real butter and I guarantee they used real butter 65 years ago. They need 'wigglier' moist and fatty brisket options.

My links were delicious. I wasn't that crazy about the sliced beef but it was ok. My husband's ribs were mostly fat. I've eaten there for years and it was always the best. I'm not sure what happened yesterday but the food was not up to par. The service is always good.

This is a long-standing bbq joint serving Lufkin. The bbq ribs & sausage are very good. The fried yeast rolls are like donuts without the glaze….. but they have honey 🍯 & they are Devine. Take a dozen home with you.

Trying to get to Lake Livingston St Park and came across this place. The meats were a little above average. Brisket not so much but the ribs and sausage are worth a return trip. Beans were just soso and I really liked the coleslaw. I don't know who does the rolls at this place but I could get fat just eating those. Maybe they sell them by themselves. Overall you could do better in Lufkin but it ain't bad.

I don't think I've ever had a sliced beef sandwich handed to me with less meat on it. I could see the bread between each one of the nuggets (not slices) in a single layer of brisket. The potato salad was nothing but bland mashed potatoes, no two ways about it. They definitely haven't earn my business. They might've been there 70 years but the grandkids seen to have forgotten whatever it was that used to make the place good. Skimping isn't a good look for a BBQ joint.

Beans, meh, coleslaw was good. Everything was fresh, but portions were small for the prices. Not bad, just didn't live up to the hype.

First time here. My husband and I ordered the brisket plate which came with two sides and rolls while my children shared a brisket sandwich and fries. The flavor was on point for the dishes. It was on the drier side. Sadly, all of our food on our plates were all the same temperature. I had ordered brisket, coleslaw and pinto beans. Brisket and beans ought to be hot and coleslaw ought to be cold. On the brighter side, the rolls were the best part! It reminded me so much of a donut. That was the best part of the meal.

A couple of friends and I went here for dinner as we were in the area and wanted BBQ. There was really no one in the restaurant but our service was slow. The waitress was super nice but just lacking in attention. Ordered a 3 meat plate, brisket, ribs and sausage. None were anything to get again. The best thing here is the fried bread they give to you as an appetizer. Will not be back.

The food and rolls were good, the bbq chicken was tender and hot the rolls as usual were delicious, the one bad point was the service I had to call out to get somebody to show up. She was cute and sweet but in to much in a hurry to get back to her phone I did not leave a tip and I believe in tipping. After she brought out our main plate that was the last time we saw her. Used to be the best BBQ in east texas. I'm 57 and have eaten here since I was 10 years old. No longer the case. I ordered a sliced beef plate and it came with 3 slices of beef. Said something to the nice waitress and the manager came to my table and said they ran out of brisket and there was nothing he could do. He was very rude to me. Don't waste your money.

Recently moved to the area. My first visit here. Brisket was a bit dry, coleslaw was plain and beans were ok. I'll be back to try again to give brisket another chance and try other menu items. I used the to-go window.

BBQ sauce is VERY VINEGAR based-ok, that's definitely not for everyone but was very surprised they had no other options - no sweet version/ no sweet heat versions etc. Good but nothing special except the fried rolls- they were outstanding!!

Their food is always good and they tend to have great service. However, gave a 3 because the is the second time that the drive through order was wrong. I had to drive back to Lufkin Barbecue to get the order correct. The staff filled the correct order, but it would be nice if they would recognized the aggravation and time to return to the restaurant.

Called in an order and went to pick it up. While their barbecue is good service was not so good. My husband went in to pick up the order 15 minutes after we called it in. Nothing was ready so he stood there for another 15-20 minutes while they fixed the order.

I hv traded from Stringer s lufkin bbq since it open. When I was 9 yrs old we lived on timberland dr when it had a row of houses with built in screen porches on front of houses. My mom would get me to walk blocks to buy our dinner of chip bbq sandwitches. The food was great. I would go once a wk n the sandwitches we looked forward to. I m 77 now n I hv traded with lufkin bbq all these yrs. I ate a half chicken plate a wk ago. It was so good. My girlfriend had ordered a brisket plate n had to send it bk. It was so hard n dried out. N the waitress brought her a real good fresh meat out n made it good. Today I went through the dr through window. Ordered a pint of beans. N half chicken. I stressed I wanted it fresh n not dried out. They said the owner said we mk it fresh every day. I stressed I m getting parshals n I need it real tender. Well n behold. When I went to eat it it was so dry. N over cooked or had been under a light n dried out. I had to throw most of the leg n theighs away. It was so hard n dried out. I only ate a part of the theigh n part of the breast which was dry also. What a waste.of my money. N who ever pk that chicken knew it was dry. The beans r wonderful. N yesterday I ordered a pint of beans n a raisen pie n apple pie. N got to my aunts a ross town. N only had i raisen pie. They left out the apple pie. I called n I got it today They made it good. N I can’t eat the chip beef sandwitch. They changed it. It was so salty n must hv msg in the seasoning. It swelled me up all over. I wish they hadn’t changed the chip beef. So what is wrong with stringers lufkin bbq. ???

The food was ok. Service was great! I have to rate it in the lower end of all the barbecue places I’ve eaten. Bbq beef “by the pound” was $30. I felt that was way over priced. We had 3 of us eating, and no one was overjoyed by the food. One and done!

Location is at a busy intersection with interesting parking, so getting the vehicle in may take a moment. Walking inside, just seat yourself and someone will come to you to get things started. We ordered the chipped beef plate, sliced beef plate, and the combination plate. The in-house sauce was watery and lacked flavor, which was disappointing. Sliced beef had good texture, but lacked seasoning and moisture. Combination plate had some really good sausage, good texture ribs, just wish the ribs weren't overwhelmed by the pepper. The chipped beef... no. Just no. Service was good overall, attentive and worked with us to get our chipped beef swapped out for something else.

Went to school at SFA and worked in Lufkin in college and hadn't ever been to this place. Was driving through and decided, today's my day. The restaurant itself is older, but cute. I love all the natural wood, and the smoked smell that bbq places have. Ordered the classic combo (brisket, sausage, and pork ribs). The lean brisket wasn't all that great, and the moist piece i got wasn't anything to write home about. The sausage however was pretty good. Pork rib was fall off the bone and probably what I enjoyed most from the platter. Their Cole slaw wasn't great, and the potato salad was good. What I disliked most about this place was their bbq sauce. Just wasn't good. Reminded me of spiced campbells tomatoe soup. There's a restaurant near me in Houston that has the exact same flavor profile sauce and I don't go there either. Now that doesn't mean other folks love it. This is just an old man reviewing places to help other folks. That being said, I'd come back for the ribs and sausage. But might smuggle in my own sauce next time.

Ordered advertised Rib sandwich plate from their web menu. What I got home with was no sandwich plate at all and 2 buns with a small amount of Barbecue sauce and a small slab of ribs with the BONES STILL ATTACHED. How did they expect me to eat this as a sandwich. I had to trash the whole thing. What astonished me is that they would sell this as a sandwich to begin with. Pathetic!

Okay, so why 2 stars? Simple... the Rib Sandwich. Don't bother. The barbeque here is good... someone definitely knows what they are doing with the smoker! But whoever is in the kitchen plating that barbeque should be fired. I paid $11 for a rib sandwich... which I don't mind paying that price if the meat is good and there's a generous portion. But... I literally got 3 pork ribs (bones and all!l on a bun with a smear of barbeque sauce! No way you can call that a sandwich! They didn't even cut the meat off the ribs!! My wife was dying laughing... Barbeque shouldn't be funny... but this place's Rib Sandwich is a joke.

Bbq is nothing to write about. We were needing our bbq fix was disappointed! I had chopped beef sandwich it was more like consistency of mushy ground beef. BF had sliced was disappointed with his as well. No flavor other than bbq sauce. Won't go back. BTW if your looking for a sign it is Lufkin bbq.

I was disappointed with the food, the mashed potatoes were sweet, “chipped beef” was incredibly salty and reminiscent of sloppy joe filling. The side salad was decent and the fried bread palatable but neither worth a trip back. Service and ambiance were both excellent though!

I am very disappointed in my order. The potato salad was only mashed potatoes with seasoning. The cole slaw was just lettuce. The chipped beef was okay. I have eaten at this restaurant for 40 years and am unpleased to say that the food is nothing like I have eaten in recent years. Please step up because Lufkin BBQ is a staple restaurant in Lufkin, Texas.

I don’t enjoy giving bad reviews and I know everyone’s taste in BBQ is different but here we go. The best part of the meal were the fried rolls, they were delicious. The brisket plate however was not. The brisket itself was incredibly tough and had to be sawed through with a knife. It had no flavor and no bark. The beans were like eating cooked onions and the potato salad was more like onion/bell pepper(?) flavored mashed potatoes. The photo attached to this review is what I left and didn’t eat. It might be me and the fact I’m used to smoking and eating central Texas style BBQ.

I would give them no stars...everything is drowned in sugar, the potato salad is more like refrigerated mashed potatoes, Cole slaw is sweet its inedible, the pinto beans are horribly sweet with no real flavor, and the chipped beef is salty. The entire pla×ce is run by children, who are loud, rude, and have no idea how to treat food (or customers) SAVE YOUR MONEY AND EAT ELSEWHERE 👎👎👎

They took our order took our money for two barbecue sandwiches we waited 45 minutes only to be told that our order was forgotten about. We left and went somewhere else and ran into one of the employees at another restaurant whom asked us to give them another try on our second visit we actually received our food was terrible..

First time to visit this place was 3-15-16. I had the chicken leg quarter special and my husband had the brisket sandwich. The leg quarter was dry and almost tasteless. I tried drowning it with bar-b-que sauce, but the sauce was kind of strange tasting. There seemed to be a lot of vinegar and pepper in the sauce. The potato salad was strange too. It was more like mashed potatoes with bits of vegetables in it. Cole slaw was OK, but the best thing about the meal was the little biscuits. They were like soapapillas, but in biscuit form. Topped with warm honey, they were the best thing about the meal. The service was good overall, but we'll try someplace else next time we're in Lufkin.

Really, really rude workers. We are new to town, and every single time are blown away by how utterly hateful and unprofessional the people taking the orders are. Food isn’t very good compared to the places we have been to in DFW. I would just avoid this place. Hopefully they will read this and get their staff better trained. We won’t be back.

Horrible BBQ. Went based on good reviews and enjoyed the rolls , but the BBQ sandwiches were simply inedible I bought 3 home to family it all ended up in the trash , because the dogs wouldn't even eat it . I'm no far of BBQ sauce anyway, but they told me it was "cooked in " more like smothered in it . My dad likes BBQ sauce said it was "worst ever " .....I will just go get frozen BBQ from shelf before doing that again!!

Very disappointed that we drove over two hours to get this for a family gathering. We spent over $140 and got home to find out they didn’t include the sliced brisket even though they claimed they put it in the two bags when we left. My sister called and the staff was unhelpful saying that was a different shift and the owner would call the next day. He called and left a voicemail saying he watched the cameras and saw the brisket go into the bag. I am curious what camera he watched because there was no brisket in either of the two bags when we got home two hours later. What happened to the customer is always right? This wasn’t a debate or argument but was a fact and since they refuse to give me our money back over the brisket we will just have to call the bank and do a chargeback. Sad they didn’t want to make it right after we called them twice. Next time I won’t drive two hours here for this kind of service

We've always enjoyed coming in to dine, but this time was above the worst!! The waitress seemed new, took like 20 min just to take our order and another 1/2 hour to bring the food, she was in no hurry for anything. My order was wrong at that, but I didn't complain, still wondering if she'd remember our drinks, she walked passing our table multiple times but never brought the drinks, when I went to pay and asked them to take the drinks off the tab, she overheard and had an attitude about it, not even apologetic about it! Never again!

The food was terrible!!! The chopped beef resembled dog food slopped on our plates. The potato salad had no decernable flavor and the beans were no better. What happened to those wonderful rolls??? They were no where near as great as in former years. Did I mention we were sick for 2 days with indigestion??? We recommend Pappa's in Huntington for excellent bbq.

For the first time in 45 years I was very disappointed with the food and service! My guests and I received our dinner plates and ALL the meat and beans were cold! The sausage had a weird green tint to several pieces. The waitress was made aware, then a woman we assume was the on shift manager came to our table. She asked what the problem was and then snidely remarked "that just means it's done". When she walked away she started loudly discussing us with the employees, and we could hear every word across the restaurant. My friends said they will never come again.

Don’t waste your money eating here. Food had no flavor at all. Potato salad was mashed potatoes basically. Coleslaw and beans and no seasoning. Personally wasn’t a fan of the bbq sauce. Place was clean and quiet when we went and staff seems kind. The food just isn’t good unfortunately.

Customer service was horrible, lady at the drive through made it abundantly clear she hated her job. Got a rib plate and 6 oz. Of sausage, actually ordered a link, which was on the menue board and was rudely corrected. We only have sausage! I pay get my food and leave. For 22 dollars they forgot my sausage, I got 3 small burnt ribs, hot potato salad and cold beans. I didnt dare try the potato salad because I had to try to guess what was in it. The beans were really sweet like candy, that and being cold was too much. I tried the sauce to make the ribs edible but unfortunately I was not successful. This is the first and last time I will be going there.

I got the chicken special. It was dry, old tasting and not hot. My husband got three thin half pieces of roast beef. We both got very small servings of the bean side. The quality and quantity is not worth the price.

Went through drive thru got beans and rib and rolls. I got No silverware, No baroque sauce, and no butter or honey. I called just to let them know and the person who answered the phone said we can't replace anything in a very rude way. I told the lady ,I was not asking for anything just wanted to let them know. I feel if that's how you treat your customers, I don't think I will be back.

Well I’ve been coming here for the last 15 years and I always stop here when I come to Lufkin, which is normally once a month! In the last 6 visits it’s been getting worse as the brisket is to dry! BBQ sauce is way off from its normal consistency! Well today it was the sauce that sucked, there beans were cool, which was in a portion of 2oz! Potato salad and the rolls were good! As for my work client was on the same page as I was! He had same issues w his brisket plate as well! Hopefully they get it together!

Went through the drive-thru about 5:00 on Saturday. Ordered a sliced beef plate and got 2-1/2 to 3 slices of beef. For the price, I couldn’t believe how little meat was on the plate. First and last time! So disappointed.

Do not order by the pictures of the menu. Prices are actually much higher higher. They need to take those pictures down. My total with taxe should have been $33.12. Not cheap by any means. When they rang me up, it was $39.79. That's quite a difference. I went thru the drive thru because it was raining. I specifically asked for salt. After a delay she handed me what she said was salt and pepper. I move out of the window because others were waiting. Then I realized what she gave me was all pepper. No salt. I had to pull around and go inside to get salt because drive thru line was growing. The food was good. The burger was ok and a small portion of fries.

The drive through lady just has a whole negative attitude! September 26th @ 12.25pm. Maybe that is not the right job for you, if you will have an attitude!
