We went there after a long hiking day in Yosemite. The vibe was a lovely classic steakhouse, and the food was amazing. My top three dishes are the ribeye steak, cooked perfect medium rare with a delicious sauce, the stuffed chicken (my husband loves it), and the crispy calamari with the perfect dipping sauce.
We celebrated my wife's birthday by treating ourselves to Friday Prime Rib - it was great! The meal, service and everything was fantastic, like it always is. Oh - don't forget to order the appetizer mushrooms to be served with the Prime Rib, a great combination. Mariposa is very fortunate to have Charles Street Dinner House
This is such a wonderful little restaurant. The food is great but honestly the biggest thing is the servers. The people here are just the nicest and most welcoming that we came across while travelling through California this time around. If you're going to or from sequoia like we were, you should stop in this place. It's very worth it
We stopped here on our way out of Yosemite. What a lovely steakhouse. Great service and great food. My husband had the New York steak, and I had the Filet... melt in your mouth... delicious house salad...the apple pie we took to go... it was delicious too!
The staff is well trained. The chef is a 4-star. The steam clams were done perfectly. And the broth was delicious. Everything was great. Hint: You can spend more across the street and receive less in food quality and service.
This place is an absolute 10 out of 10!!!!! Perfect New York steak! Charred flame grill marks and cooked to a perfect rare. Loaded baked potato with everything is amazing. Real Blu cheese on the salads! Big rocks for the whiskey and everything else you could want. I was completely blown away every time something was put in front of us. They saved a group of 6 for an anniversary party dinner after the place across the street cancelled our reservation. If you are in Mariposa and want a high class dinner, don't miss this spot.
Came for a visit from LA and the customer service was beyond exceptional. Food was top notch too. I had the ribeye and my dad had the rack of lamb. Child had spaghetti n and meatballs. We were all very pleased. Highly recommend!
My wife and I went here for dinner during our trip to Yosemite. We were attended to by no less than 4 people during our dinner (including the owner herself!), all of them just checking on us to see if we needed refills, another drink, etc. I had literally the best steak I've ever had the pleasure of eating with plenty of sides, all for a very reasonable price. The atmosphere was elegant and fit the feel of the small town perfectly! 11/10 would recommend this place if you find yourself staying or passing through Mariposa.
The ambiance in this restaurant was awesome. First, the staff was all dressed up and the tables had beautiful maroon linens. The menu all sounded delicious. I had the spinach and steak salad with a house dressing. It had so many textures, sweet, salty, and more! My friend had the tri-tip sandwich and he loved it. The steak was tender and on delicious bread. We started with the cheddar broccoli soup which I could’ve just had a big bowl for my meal. I honestly wish we had room for dessert because I’m sure it would’ve been fabulous. The green brûlée looked and sounded divine.
If you're like me, road tripping around California, and you've spent the last couple days snacking on McDonalds, Subway, and trail mix because there's not many good restaurants along the way - open your wallet, and indulge yourself at this place! You'll remember what good food tastes like, and the sensations that come with only the finest cooking. I still dream about that 12 oz rib eye and the french onion soup. Oh how you saved this tired little boy, and helped him rediscover the true meaning of happiness! Thank you is what I have to say to this restaurant!
nice and clean family owned restaurant with an old west decor style that wasnt over the top fancy in terms of prices. I enjoyed their very good calamari (a nice surprise in Mariposa) and prime rib (a regularly occurring special item). The prime rib was much thicker than most prime rib cuts that I've had but was tender and juicy and very well cooked.
We drove 45 minutes from El Portal to eat a good meal after spending all day at Yosemite. We weren't sure what we'd get but we were pleasantly surprised. First of all the staff were very friendly and provided great service with a smile. Our food was delicious. The portions were generous. Most of the people in our party had a cocktail and they were made to perfection. Next time we visit Yosemite we'll definitely go back to Charles Street Dinner House. I highly recommend this restaurant.
My family enjoyed dinner, Food perrrrfect! We will definitely come back here ! Staff is very accommodating.
It was very crowded when we came here to have dinner, but the waiting time for a free table (45 min) was worth it! We knew it is a good sign )) Delicious cocktails and tasty food. The nicest service and really cool unique atmosphere of a small beautiful restaurant.
We dined here last night , great experience, from the moment you walk through the door you’re greeted by the sweetest most gorgeous inviting host. Service was amazing , everyone touched the table and anticipated our needs. The food was a 10/10. Would definitely recommend ending the night with dessert martinis, they were delicious.
This is one of the few places where to have a very good dinner in Mariposa. The place inside is very particular, at least one of the waitress is dress with traditional clothes that resemble a German style one. The staff is generally friendly. The food is very tasty and the main dishes are always presented with a soup. I recommend this restaurant.
Totally unexpected find after a hot day in Yosemite. Just what we wanted. Worth the price. Worth waiting until it opened at 5pm. Vegetables were fresh and tasty. Service ce was exceptional. We had Portabello Ravioli and Salmon. Pasta made fresh daily. The chef made a bit of gravy for my friend’s baked potato when he requested it. Really great place! Highly recommend. The inside is cute, too!
When you ask the 9 year old granddaughter where she wants to eat and she says Charles Street. WIN WIN!
I wasn't expecting to get an amazing meal at the small town outside of Yosemite...... But that's exactly what I got. I went in with low expectations and left feeling full and so happy that I went to this restaurant!! I read reviews beforehand and thought it was going to be more "honky tonk".... But it's rustic decor with mello guitar music. Delightful.
Super friendly and attentive staff. Fresh ingredients, well prepared. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the food. Highly recommended.
Every year since the first time we’ve stepped foot into CHARLES Street dinner house we make it a point to make it back. This year was no exception. We drove all the way from Riverview Lodge just outside the park, where there is an excellent restaurant, as well. However, being g Father’s Day weekend and me loving a Steak cooked to perfection, we decided to make the 45 minute trek down the hill to eat at our favorite restaurant And it never disappoints. Make note of the drinks for Keylime martini and cocoa espresso martinis are the best we’ve ever had. Not to mention the steak, fish, chicken, and lobster That was cooked to perfection. Every time we come to Yosemite the first thing I think about is having the chance to go to Charles Street dinner house. So if you decide to make the trek to Yosemite through Mariposa, don’t forget to stop in for a five star mea with a menu that will not disappoint. The service is very impressive as well! Enjoy!
Nice cozy restaurant. We got 4 nice big streaks and a tasty dessert.
Busy place not enough restrooms Only one Small and narrow, one toilet, they can't help it. I know, but just sayen. The only other thing I could say is the waitresses. Not all of them, but some of them should smile a little more and be a little more courteous and friendly. Food was delicious!
Definitely worth the stop! Wouldn't be a bad idea to make a reservation, we happened to get lucky and got seated immediately even tho it looked like a full house. Tried the prime rib with shrimp skewers, house salad, French onion soup, and cheesecake for dessert. It was all delicious, even the German beer on tap didn't disappoint! Every single member of the staff was delightful and helpful. Not joking when I say I want to try every single item on the menu. I will definitely be returning again. And again. And again. ☺️
Stopped by for dinner after a day in Yosemite. The food was great especially the fresh baked bread! The staff were dressed in classy attire. The service was great and the food was terrific. Highly recommended!
My wife and I ended up visiting this restaurant for two nights out of our three night stay at Mariposa. I had the burger and ribs while my wife had the ny steak and the ribeye. Overall food quality is very good and ingredients fresh. It is in walking distance from most of the lodging on the main area of Mariposa. For some reason the one item that surprised me the most were the side dish of fries. The fries were one of the best I have ever had. Staff are nice but service and being seated was really slow both nights we visited (wed and fri). But the food and vibe was so great that we visited this place again despite number of other good restaurants in town.
This Charming little restaurant was almost right across the hotel that we were staying at here in Mariposa! We had come in late from a day of hiking in Yosemite and we're looking for a place to eat and found this location. The exterior of the restaurant is very cute and the inside is just as cute! :-) it has a nice atmosphere. We were very well greeted and the service throughout the dining experience was excellent! :-) and the food was very very tasty! :-) if you're looking for a place to eat here in Mariposa this is the place! :-)
Family owned. Great chef, fresh ingredients, daily specials. Good value for what you get. Staff who really care about you and your experience. I have celebrated special occasions here with gorgeous steaks and sea food , and I have fed my hungry family with grilled chicken, burgers, ribs and corndogs here on a busy school night. Rustic decor, cool funky old building.
Staying in Mariposa, CA for a vacation my family and I were looking for a calm family friendly restaurant and Charles Street Dinner House was exactly what we were looking for! Yesterday we went there for dinner and we loved it so much. We were seated by the window which allowed for much radiant sunlight. The waitress was very kind and helpful, we ordered and the food came shortly without complications. I personally loved the atmosphere because it felt energetic but not too loud! I would definitely recommend the dinner house for a kind of fancy but not over the top evening night out!
If I could give this lovely spot 100 stars, I would! This was the luckiest find on our trip to California-through San Francisco and all. Not only was the food incredible and delicious, but the staff has a flow of complete excellence and is a true example of teamwork. Their joyfulness and kind spirit made the experience ten times greater than it already was. You will not find a better side salad… have you ever heard someone harp about a side salad?! Maybe not (lol) but I simply cannot get over it and really, just the entire experience. 100/10 would recommend to anyone. Thank you guys for the BEST service ever!!!!!!
Hi, I was visiting my Mom and found this gem in Mariposa. A little pricey but worth it! Always busy. Best dinner I've had in a while. Hard to find parking. A must when visiting Yosemite.
Ate here while staying in mariposa from the UK visiting yosemite. Staff were very friendly, great service all the food was amazing we had the stuffed chicken and the new york steak all cooked perfectly and finished off with an amazing ice cream pie highly recommend if you are visiting or passing through
First time dining here and it did not disappoint. If you blink you'll miss it but it was worth the stop. The staff was very friendly and nice. I was quickly greeted upon entering and seated. My drink order was taken promptly. I ordered my food and it came out without waiting to long. The restaurant has a nice charm to it that makes it a great place to enjoy a nice dinner. I ordered the rack of lamb and it was superb and not over priced considering it's not a very common meal. It was cooked perfectly medium. The menu has a lot of variety so anyone is sure to find something they like. I also had the Cream of spinach soup and it was delicious!
Casey and Morgan were amazing! The food was incredible. I got the chicken special. Came from St. Louis, MO and wish this place could be closer! Highly recommend!
Corey/Jacob and Erica were fantastic and super friendly. Corey made sure the beer was available. And Erica, the best waitress always checking in. The ribeyes, shrooms and potato could not have been better; almost cut the steak with my spoon. Almost. Was a great experience and will be back again if we get our gig next year. Teresa, organizing the diners was awesome to eavesdrop on. She worked those reservations and sat them down as they walked in 10 mins later. Whatta champ. The steak was soooooo tender, juicy and delightful. A great dinner.
My brother and I just came back from a Yosemite two day backpacking trek and stopped here randomly for a steak and sandwich. Food was fire. We also had dessert and they were closing. Everything was a 10/10 from the moment we stepped in. Inside is a vibe and reminded us of our grandmothers antiques and style. Everyone who worked here was extremely professional. What a way to end a trip
Thank you social media for allowing us to find this GEM. Hand cut steaks, food fresh and made to order. A menu that offers just the right amount of selections. The staff is super knowledgeable and super friendly and eager to make the dining experience one of your best. We had steaks, salad, a cheese board, creme Brûlée and Chocolate Mousse and one of the best sit down dinners I had while in California. See the pictures. Do not hesitate to stop here. If you didn’t know from the internet you would pass it by. At 6:30 they had a full restaurant. That is a sure test of a restaurant’s quality.
The lodge where we were staying recommended this place for dinner so we went check it out. Phenomenal little steakhouse. I am not sure if it was because we were famished from a long day of hiking or what; but everything food wise was great. I must also compliment the service staff and the pleasant atmosphere in the steakhouse. Highly recommend!
Showed up on a Friday night, it was my birthday and I really wanted a steak and potato dinner. Thankfully no reservation was needed but I could see it being more necessary for more popular seasons. Cute restaurant, like a old house transformed, really only smelled like an old house in the tiny narrow bathrooms Service was absolutely fantastic, everyone we interacted with was so lovely. They all seemed to know everyone who was dining there, we were for sure the out of towners. I had a filet with side salad and baked potato. The vegetable side was well seasoned and cooked well. Basic side dish but done so well I ate them all. The thought that went into making my baked potato ready to scoop out was a small thought but I appreciated it! Even my salad was cold, crispy and crunchy. The bread on the table was delicious. My stake was yummy and loved the jus and mushrooms served with them. Hubs had the prime rib, he said it was one of the best ones he had in a long times he had the clam chowder to start and it was super tasty!!! Glad we had my birthday meal here!
We came to Charles Street last-minute in early December 2025 with a large high-energy group (13 people) and could not have asked for a better experience. The staff was attentive (despite it being peak dinnertime on a Saturday) and was able to seat us very quickly at 2 adjoining tables so we could be near each other. Dylan in particular was especially fantastic; he nailed all of our confusing food/drink orders and was great at making us laugh, returning our jokes, and spoiling us. The server was also super flexible and helpful in keeping some plates warm/boxing up food when some folks had to step out. The food was great; I usually don't love French onion soup but the one here fully changed my mind, and the steaks were incredible. Would highly recommend!
We had a great time with friends here. The food is absolutely delicious, very well served, and full of flavor. The staff are very attentive and gave us excellent recommendations for dishes. It was our second time at this restaurant and I can't wait to return again. Definitely my favorite restaurant. Unfortunately, I live 3 hours away.
The rib-eye was so delicious and juicy, one of the best cuts of meat we've ever eaten. For dessert we ordered the hot apple pie, it was also very delicious. The food, service and place were excellent. We'll be back
We stumbled upon Charles a Monday evening when our favourite restaurant across the street was closed. Service was a little slow but the food did not disappoint. The pork chop was succulent and the pasta special was a chemistry of flavors. Both dishes came in generous portions. Lighting was a little dim. All staff were friendly.
When looking for a good quality sit-down meal when we stayed in the top (or bottom depending on what way you look at it!) end of town, we opted for this place as read it had good steaks - we were not disappointed! We didn't have a reservation but managed to get a booth for 2 without a wait despite it being early on a Saturday evening. The host was friendly and welcoming, and the servers we dealt with were also lovely. The ambience was nice in an old-style way. The food was delicious, with juicy steaks and melt-in-the-mouth prime rib. My husband's ribeye was quite well seasoned, which could be a bit much for those looking for something a bit less rich, but he enjoyed it nonetheless! We had a lovely meal and would stop in again if in town, as although it was a bit more pricey than some other options, the quality and portion sizes were great.
Amazing!!! What a find in this cute lil town. We were lucky and didn’t need a reservation on a busy holiday weekend. Service was fabulous, restaurant is antique chic and the food was scrumptious. We had steaks, pork chops, fettuccine and chocolate mousse for dessert and everything was well prepared. The lemon yogurt dressing on my salad was absolutely delicious. Thank you Charles Street for a great experience.
Hey Charles street Dinner House - Team You did a perfect job! We spent three nights in a row at your table, and each one was a fantastic experience. For anyone visiting Mariposa near Yosemite National Park: Go there and enjoy the cozy atmosphere, the friendly service, and, last but not least, the amazing food. They truly master everything their menu offers. We loved it! Much love from Switzerland
This fancy-schmancy establishment had me feeling out of my league, but the staff's warm hospitality and slick service made me feel like a VIP! The food? Mostly fabulous, with standouts like the sublime rib eye, salmon, and that heavenly French onion soup. Too bad the ravioli commited the culinary sin of being too doughy. Still, I'm eager to return and give them another shot ..that fillet mignon is calling my name! 😋
This was such a cozy find during our weekend trip to Yosemite National Park and what a gem it was. It was quite busy and bustling but had a lovely family friendly vibe. The staff was unbelievably friendly from seating us, going through the specials for the day, and making sure we were well tended to during our time there. They even shared with us the playlist that they were playing at the restaurant which we loved. Of course the food was delicious as well. The majority of our table decided on the specials of the day, both of which was great. I had the portobello ravioli from their pasta menu which was also so good - creamy and savory, all that you love with a good ravioli. All the dishes came with a great portion of veggies than we ever expected and all our dishes also came with your choice of either a soup or salad. We all thought the quality and quantity for the price was well worth it! From our small selection, it gives you the feeling that the rest of the menu would be just as good. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for those who have some time at the end of the day for a nice sit-down dining experience right on the Main Street through Mariposa, about an hour away from the main Yosemite Village.
We recently visited Mariposa and tried a handful of restaurants in town. One that we particularly liked for lunch was Charles Street Dinner House. Opening hours are 11am to 2pm (lunch) on weekdays and 5-10pm (dinner) daily. We arrived around noon and were seated immediately. Seating area is western themed creating a nice ambience for casual lunches. Service was friendly and timely during our meal. On the occasion we had the Charles Street burger with onion rings that was very good. This was a half pound patty well grilled with good beef flavour. Toppings were fresh and the bun soft. This was just a really good burger. Onion rings tasted fine. We also had the half rack of baby back ribs. Meat fell off the bone and tasted great with the honey bbq sauce. Served with fries and veggies, this was another very good lunch order. Overall, we were very happy with our lunch at Charles Street Dinner House. This is a place we would like to return to if we were to pass through Mariposa again.
The food was very good and the customer service was excellent. A little overpriced in my opinion and my mashed potatoes were cold but the experience was great after a long day of hiking at Yosemite national Park. We had the two specials of the day, and I had their Grapefruit Negroni which was very delicious.
Small lovely restaurant with great baby pork spare ribs. Salad was crunchy & soups were very delicious too. Service great but the only thingh I did not like was the rickety table in the corner. I think it should be replaced as it is annoying for the guests & a poor image of quite an expensive restaurant.
Really enjoyed my meal there so much we went back for the second night. The food was fresh flavorful and cooked well. My tastes buds were doing a happy dance. The booths were slightly uncomfortable. The decor cute. The bathroom could have used a cleaning of the fan, was very small, but was otherwise ok. The staff was cheerful, helpful and was around just enough. No hovering but no real waiting for refills, plates to be cleared, the bill etc.
We started with a couple of old fashions and potato skins, which were delicious. We ordered the filet mignon and the pork chop. The filet mignon was cooked to a perfect medium rare, but the pork chop seemed overdone because it was dry. After reviewing the receipt, the pork chop was cooked to medium well. We were never asked how we wanted the pork chop cooked. I wish we had been asked. The service was very good and it has a nice atmosphere.
It has one of those classic steakhouse vibe. We didn't have reservations, and they were able to seat us after 30 mins (which personally wasn't too bad since the place was packed and we didn't call ahead). They gave us complimentary garlic bread that was soft and tasty. I ordered their rib eye with baked potatoes and steamed veggies, and my bf ordered their NY Steak (same sides). Their entrees also included a choice of soup or salad, and we both chose the onion soup. The onion soup was fine and had a good portion. When the steaks came in, both were cooked perfectly. We both wanted medium rare. The baked potato was soft, but my bf thought that it was missing something. The steamed veggies seemed to be fresh. For drinks, we ordered their Moscow Mule and it tasted fresh- it was my favorite order that night. Unfortunately, we were too stuffed for dessert. :(
The food overall was tasty. There was a long wait and long time to get the food so they were probably short staffed. The calamari was ok. The onion rings were nothing special. But the trip tip sandwich was tender, seasoned extremely well and the best bite of the night. The fettuccine was homemade and good overall. I found the pasta lacked salt. But the chicken was delicious and you could taste the grill which enhanced the dish significantly. The prime rib was unfortunately chewy but the outside was seasoned well. It was large enough for two people though which was a plus. The veggies went well with it as did the baked potatoes. Our party also had the french onion soup and someone else had the house salad which were both average. This place was recommended and it is very much a place stuck in time. Overall it was not a bad experience everyone who worked there was very nice
The atmosphere is great but the lasagna that I ordered was not really that good. I could barely eat it. I like the nice vibe and atmosphere there, however, they seemed understaffed so it was hard to get a hold of them.
New waiter person helping out to learn the ropes. Forgot the soda, to bring back our water, and then the check. Salad was great! but the plate was so small for the salad it was hard to eat. I had ribs at waitress recommendation. Not sure she has ever had them. Not bad exactly but nothing memorable. And who ever butchered them left cartilage bombs at both ends. Not a great look pulling inedible stuff from your mouth all evening. Red potatoes were flavorless meteors. Vegetable medley was undressed unseasoned oversized cool broccoli, a few green greens beans and.... nope that was it. Wife had stuffed chicken. It was okay, moist, but really un remarkable. Same unworthy medley. In fairness, they are trying. They rush around, and smile, etc. But they need someone to clean up the whole process and focus on details.
Both meals was overpriced. The chicken special dinner was a seven out of a 10 the French dip was ordered with no mayonnaise and covered with mayonnaise was returned in a very short time in the meal was a four out of a 10 very disappointed in $100 meal.
Overall the food was ok. Ordered Cezar salad (big enough for two) that came with Onion soup, very tasty... but here it comes my disappointment - their famous Filet Minion - the veggies were overcooked and the meat was medium rare even we asked for medium. For desert we got the Cream brûlée that was very tasty. So, 5⭐️ for service and 2⭐️ for food, average 3.
It was a long day after hiking at Curry Village in Yosemite, tired from starvation and heading back to our cabin we decided to stop at Charleys. We were introduce to a hostess that was able to let us in, even though we didn’t have reservations. After sitting down my uncle Reyes noticed a spider that could have killed us on the ceiling! I felt the thing looking at me miles away. We had about 2-3 different servers and it was confusing because there was no direct server! Who am I trusting to take care of me?! I got clam chowder and I will say if it was my last thing I had to eat, I would not be mad. I felt the overwhelming warmth immediately in my mouth after first taste. Finally, my food came out and the fried chicken was not my favorite, I felt the taste in my mouth and the texture was something that was not satisfying. Overall the food was not bad, the service just needs some work! Do I recommend this place? I do, would I eat there again? Absolutely not Charley!
Went for dinner ordered steak and lobster. The lobster came sitting on the shell bad thing was the shell was twice the size of the lobster tail sitting on it. The rib-eye was not even a 1/2 inch thick I’m a local usually eat there once a month as a treat to myself and have never had this problem before was very disappointed. The service is always good and the food is good but wasn’t worth the 106 dollars I was charged sorry to say.
We were really disappointed with our visit. The food was ok, but when it came to the bill, it was much higher than expected. We were overcharged for a wine (4 folds more). Maybe it was a waiter‘s mistake…. It took a while to get it corrected. It’s a bit shame because the food wasn't bad.
