Just celebrated my daughter and son inlaw’s Baby shower on Sunday at this wonderful place. The whole experience was great. Place is lovely ,food was delicious ( they had a brunch celebration). From the servers, hostess, bartenders and the management .. So Attentive , No hassle , no rushing us out. So welcoming is the word !! Thank you everyone!! Loved this place and would recommend for a party or just a place to gather and eat ! Xo

Dinner was excellent!! The service was honestly some of the best I’ve had in a long time. i may get my waiters name wrong (Andy?) but he was excellent!! Always around when needed and was great with our 6 year old who we brought with us. Chris— the owner or manager (as I presumed)— was amazing and super attentive as we were enjoying our meal. Didn’t get to take any photos of the food— but I ordered the chicken francese and it was delicious! We also got the short rib ragu and veal scallopini which were also excellent. Overall, great meal and excellent service! Next time we’ll try family style which seemed like a great deal!

Had a great experience at A Salute. Our server, Dana I believe was her name was beyond amazing with great recommendations and service. The food was very good. I had the pork chop and my husband had the short rib pizza. We had the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. The stuffed mushrooms could have been a bigger portion but we're very delicious. I highly recommend visiting there and will be going soon again.

Great spot. A few of us stopped here while passing through Matawan on a road trip recently. We grabbed a few drinks and desserts in the main bar area. Food was great and the staff were really friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend if you’re passing through or live in the area.

Stopped in this restaurant for dinner! When we arrived, they had valet complimentary. We walked in and discovered the restaurant used to be a church, which was cool. We got seated and served by Anthony, and he was great! We ordered family style, which was only $60 pp. We had food like calamari, chicken francese, stuffed clams, and eggplant parm! The food was really good! I had a good experience!

A group of my friends and I decided to go here for dinner on a lovely Sunday night. We were seated promptly and we ordered some apps. We started off with a few pizzas, some calamari, etc. The apps were absolutely delicious, especially the pizza. The Detroit margarita pizza was awesome and I would highly recommend it. On to our entrees. Most of the table ordered the spicy rigatoni and were all raving about it. I’m not a spicy guy so I decided to go with the penne vodka adding a crispy chicken cutlet. The portion sizes were insane. I not only ate a decent amount in the restaurant but the leftovers the next day were delicious as well. The vodka sauce was creamy and full of flavor, and the chicken cutlet was cooked to perfection. Will be going back here for sure!

This is one of my favorite local spots. It’s hard to find really great cocktails in the area. This place does it well. Brandon is a great time to hang with. Staff is pleasant and accommodating. Food is delicious. Go for their outdoor happy hour it’s got great deals. Will be back a ton.

Not understanding what the negative reviews are about as I found this restaurant awesome. Set in a 17 century church with a kool inside bar area and, indoor/ outdoor bar eating area, this restaurant has something for everyone! Sunday through Thursday there is a priced fixed menu( which I ordered) for about $50, which gives you a glass of wine or pint of beer, appetizer, entree and dessert. I ordered the Chicken Marsala and it was one of the tastiest one I ever ate. The waitress Emily tells me it gets quite lively here on weekends! I’ll be back!!!

From the moment I stepped foot in this place I was in awe. The service, atmosphere and food are like no other. I cannot wait to come back again.

The pre fix menu came with so many delicious dishes it was hard to choose my favorite! The eggplant rollintini was extra cheesy and the penne vodka was perfectly al dente ! But the their dirty martini was amazing and I loved the vibes in side this old renovated church!

We dined here back in Dec 2023 when visiting our son and his girlfriend. Everything was wonderful- in July we returned for another visit - since A Salut is literally in their backyard it was a great place to end our evenings and then have dinner on our last night. The restaurant is in an old church, tasteful decor and white cloths add to the charm. The bar area has plenty of tv’s and even a DJ some nights. We had dessert, coffee and liqueurs here 3 nights in row at the bar, as well as dinner the third night. Each night we were welcomed by the bartenders and after the first night Cam (apologies if I got it wrong) pretty much knew what we would order. The tiramisu, vanilla cappuccino mousse cake and pistachio tartufo were all worth the extra calories! We had espressos, cappuccino and decaf coffee all hot and fresh, elegantly served and of course sambucca both white and black - generous pour. For dinner we had the pork chop giambotta , veal Parm, rigatoni in a vodka sauce - I asked for shrimp to be added and it wasn’t a problem at all & Detroit style pizza. The food was hot, everyone’s meal came at the same time and no one left the table hungry! This place is a gem! Only suggestion I have - stock an extra bottle of sambucca - (they ran out on our last night). Thanks A Salut for a memorable weekend.

Hosted my daughter’s bridal shower at A Salute. The team is awesome! They were attentive, very professional and the brunch selection was delicious. We’d especially like to thank Anthony, Daniella, and Andy. Would absolutely recommend this venue without hesitation. Thanks again for a beautiful event!

We had our daughter’s communion party/luncheon at A Salute yesterday on May 4th 2025. It was a perfect setting for a communion party. The room was set up perfectly and we were able to decorate/set up the night before since we were the first party of the day. Let’s talk about the food, it was family style which was perfect for all the guests we were having. The food was fresh, hot and delicious and kept on coming out. Next the service. The waitresses, waiters and bartenders were attentive and on point. We didn’t have to wait for anything longer than a minute and they kept the food and drinks coming out as needed. We want to thank Anthony and the staff at A Salute. Everything was perfect. All of my guests are still texting me today that the service and the food were EXCELLENT !! Thank you again. We will be back for future parties and for dinner!!

A Salute exceeded our expectations in every way possible. From the moment we walked in, the experience was nothing short of fantastic. The Arancini, Pulpo salad, Frutta di Mare, and Cacio Pepe were exceptional, each dish bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. Our server, Danielle, provided attentive and friendly service, enhancing our dining experience. The ambiance of the converted church from the 1800s added to the charm of the evening, making it a truly memorable dining experience. We left feeling regretful that we hadn't discovered this gem sooner and are already planning our next visit. A Salute is a rare find, seamlessly combining ambiance, service, and delicious Italian cuisine in a welcoming environment. It's safe to say we'll be regulars from now on.

Whether you want to dress up for a nice italian dinner or be more casual at the bar area and outside patio this venue meets everyone's needs. Incredible food and cocktails with a great happy hour! $7 tito drinks $9 craft cocktails and appetizer specials. The outside patio and bar is full service with tvs in case you wanted to catch a game. Angelina is an amazing bartender, very friendly pleasant and attentive. Seafood fra diavolo and Grilled Octopus are my favorites plus I always get a side of long hot peppers if you love heat. The polpette, arancini, mozzarella en carozza, Shrimp fra diavolo over polenta and wings are also great appetizers to start your meal off with. Chicken parmesan and eggplant rollantini are two entrees my friends enjoyed thoroughly. I love this place and will continue to be a patron every time I'm in the area.

My wife and I went this past Saturday night (12/19/20) It was tremendous! Food, drinks and atmosphere were top notch and the staff was great. Paul, who I believe is the owner was professional and genuine. Luis our server was a great guy and made us feel comfortable. Now there was a slight issue (slight as in barely affected us because everything else was GREAT!) I made my reservation online for the dining room area but we were seated in Bar area. But for a place just opening up I can understand the booking issues! 4.99998888/5 !!!! I'll be back soon! PS - We also took home a few pizzas to go. Amazing Detroit style!

If you are visiting South Jersey or you live in the area; go visit this restaurant! By far the best Italian restaurant we've been to. My best friend did an amazing job of putting her son graduation dinner ❤️ together. The own of restaurant was friendly and made sure the needs of the event were met.

This past weekend we celebrated our marriage at A Salute. We can’t being to describe what a wonderful time we had. The food was 10/10, every server & bartender went above & beyond to cater to everyone. Owners & management were always there making sure everything was top notch & helping out from start to finish. We had 59 people and almost everyone stated they would return back for dinner. If you plan to have any type of party this is the place to be. We were also told we had one of the nicest & most electric party there yet! Thank you guys so much for everything we will be back very soon! Special shoutout to our event coordinator Anthony, staff & all management!

This was hands down the BEST Italian I have had anywhere in NJ/NYC. The best outside Italy and my grandmother's kitchen. The Sunday gravy brought tears to my eyes because it tasted so close to my Italian grandmother's, which l've not had since she passed away years ago. Everything was 10/10. The ambiance was beautifully unique and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Food, service and ambiance all 10/10. So fortunate to live close by, this will be my new spot if I want the real deal Italian!

Just had an 18 person baptism “early” dinner here… we were drawn here because of the location and family style menu. Also, with five kids included in the 18, we were pleased at the fact that kids all eat for free with the family style menu. We were told the day prior we were being seating in the patio area and I was very very concerned since it was expected to rain. There was no reason to be concerned… the food, service, atmosphere in the patio area was a 1000/10. Everyone was raving about the quality and quantity of the food for every course and the drinks kept coming. Only negative comment - we weren’t given a heads up on was the cake cutting fee. Ended up being more than what I actually paid for the cake 😂 Highly recommend booking here for large family celebrations!!

I had the fig and goat cheese pizza, my wife had a steak salad and my mother had the parpadelle bolognese. The food was delicious, Daniela, our server was amazing and so were the other staff members. The atmosphere was so cool, being in an old church.

We hosted a small company holiday party here and it was excellent. We had a small private room off of the bar. The food was fantastic. The portions were large and the food was well executed and tasted great. ALL of the staff were AMAZING! Our waiter, Anthony, was extremely warm and attentive and Daniella at the bar, the manager and every staff member were on point and came to check in on us throughout our stay. They made our experience impeccable.

We celebrated our Christmas party here last Friday and had the BEST time! 🎄✨ The food was incredible, the service was amazing, and everyone left happy and full. The staff made everything feel easy and special, which is exactly what you want for a holiday celebration. Such a great spot for parties — great vibes, great food, and wonderful service. Can’t wait to come back!

We had a christening here with about 60 people. The food was amazing and the service was all unbelievable. The food came out and just kept coming. The quality was great for the amount of food too. The servers were outstanding taking drink orders. We worked with Anthony who made the whole experience wonderful. Highly recommend and we will definitely be coming back in the future.

Me and my family went to A Salute last night and had Jerry as our bartender and waiter. He was phenomenal! Very attentive and personable. We were there for over 4 hours and we didn’t feel like we were being rushed to finish. The food was delicious, we had the prefixed family style and our drinks of choice were mules, espresso martinis, and margaritas! Would absolutely recommend to go there.

J

Came with another couple and did family style. Seems that everyone was doing the family style option. Took us about 3 hours. Building is beautiful and honestly you can’t beat the price! All draft beers, wine and sangria included. Pizza& clams were our favorites and calamari was our least favorite

Amazing food and friendly staff. We had reservations for a large group for a corporate event and the food took 2 hours. We still have a good time and the food was worth the wait considering the appetizers and drinks we ordered. They have a good wine selection and the bar is well stocked. The staff was great and attentive. The kitchen got a couple of the orders wrong and the wait staff was very apologetic. The building has a a lot of amazing character as well. The temperature in the large room was very uncomfortable even after the staff turned on the two units. It was bad enough that the group passed on desert just so we could leave. We will be back.

First time on Sunday- was good and atmosphere was nice. We’ll go again. Only negatives were the muscles were a little on the salty side and the Vodka Pizza had red pepper flakes pre-sprinkled on it before coming to the table and it was not noted in the menu - luckily I like red pepper flakes but prefer adding my own and I felt it took away from the flavor of the vodka sauce. Some people may send it back especially if they don’t like a little heat on their pizza or can’t have it and didn’t know it would be served that way.

IGNORE NEGATIVE REVIEWS! I had a great experience eating here for my anniversary! My wife and I were both very pleased with the service, food, and drinks! First off, the hostess was extremely nice and seemed very genuine. Our server Matt was exceptional and such a friendly guy. Our pasta dishes were both very good, my wife and I both did prefer the Vodka pasta to the Fettucine Alfredo. The espresso martinis were absolutely amazing! The bread was also exceptional, which they said the just recently switched suppliers and are now getting their bread from Brooklyn. Overall, this is a great restaurant with great ambiance. I loved it and definitely will be back!

Lunch Engagement with my former Paramedic Partner and his Wife. This is the First Time we were able to sit down enjoy a wonderful meal with a long visit and conversations about families and events throughout the turmoil created by Covid-19. We were originally going to meet at Bahr's in Highlands, NJ, but that was scrapped with Bahr's closing down for 2 days while they due to a possible Vivid exposure as they scrambled to get tested. Glad we chose to eat here. Jon and Shirley had the Chicken Milanese, Kit chose Pomodoro Pasta with meatballs and I had the Inferno Detroit Style Pizza!!! The Pizza is rectangular, with a thickness between regular pizza and Chicago Deep Dish. It's topped with Cheese, Pepperoni, Long Hot Peppers - sliced, Honey and a sweet tangy red sauce. All of the flavors were tasty, but it was a little soggy and could of been crispier. It also was a little small in size, most Detroit Style Pizzas for the $18.00 price are 10 by 14 inch's or larger. This one was smaller than a typical smaller version which is 8 by 10 inches. I would consider this the Bar Pie version of a Detroit Style Pizza. Jon, Shirley and Kit enjoyed their meals and I would give it another try. The atmosphere was delightful, the Staff was warm and inviting!!! To finish off our visit with Dessert, Jon & Shirley shared an Affogato - which is Vanilla Ice with a small cup of espresso that you pour over it. While Kit & I shared a Chocolate Lava Cake that was delicious. As we said our Goodbyes, we plan on meeting for Lunch in May with a 2nd attempt to eat at Bahr's!!!

Originally, it would have been a 3.5. The server just lacked energy and a personality. Just took your order and kept it moving which to some might be cool but, you should make me feel like you want to serve us because, well you should, being the food was absolutely AMAZING. Probably the best italian place I've been to in a while, and that brought it to a 4. Better service and make sure I have utensils when my food comes out so I don't have to use my hands because it's so good... Could be an easy 5.

A Salute is a restaurant that is in an old church. It has an old school type of atmosphere, full of character. Their party room had high vaulted ceilings with beautiful wooden beams. The mozzarella en corrozza was a nice appetizer as was their Detroit style pizza. For entrees we had the filet mignon and the chicken francais, both were pretty good.

m
michele winant

Have been here three times. Have enjoyed the food until this visit. Made reservation for early Father’s Day dinner. Got there, not busy. Service was slow and not what you would expect for what is trying to be an upper class restaurant. Apps were mozzarella en corozza, very good. Husband had clams. He said they were very salty. Entrees I got what I’ve gotten each time I’ve been here, because I liked the dish. This time it wasn’t as good. And had lots of calamari legs. But they were so tiny they looked like bugs. It was off putting. But I didn’t bother saying anything. I just pushed them aside. Dish just was not what I had in the past. Oh and what I found odd was they gave you two and a half rolls. It looked cheap in the basket. Husband had the ribeye (boneless) which he said besides being really salty, the steak was good. When he ordered the steak he assumed fried carmalized onions meant onions fried in a pan. NOT frizzled onions that my husband hates. He tried to discuss this with the waiter when he brought it out. But was fluffed off. Not a good experience. When your going out and spending 180.00 on dinner ( 2 drinks each. He had beer mind you) I want better service. Empty bottle beer left in table when you bring the next one on a two top is really hard since the tables are so small that nothing not needed should be on that table. Just wouldn’t go back at this point. All things aside, the hostess we had the last two times a young girl ( don’t have her name) she was so nice, pleasant and inviting. Past that, really unhappy.

Bread was stale, the mozzarella app bland, the spicy shrimp app bland, skirt steak was good, a little over priced for the portion by good. Wife had the bolognese and it was okay, tastes more like a penne vodka. Nice atmosphere, servers we nice .

Made a reservation 4 weeks ago for a party of 6 for Mother's Day. We showed up 15 minutes early and were sat 20+ minutes after our reserved time. Host and Manager both said it was "because they were so busy and had nothing available". I asked why they took reservations if they can't honor them? Neither had an answer, just a "sorry". Reservation was for 4:15p, we were sat at 4:36p, and we placed our order at 4:48p. Appetizers (2 pizzas) served at 5:10p, both were good. However, we didn't see the rest of our meal until over an hour later, when entrees were served at 6:15p and after we asked twice for an update. I ordered the chicken francese and honestly was appalled at how little food was served for $34 (one small, thin chicken filet, two limp aspargus spears, 4 mini potatoes). On top of that, it was served cold (as were all the meals) and had been sitting in the kitchen so long that the francese sauce had developed a skin on top of it. I asked our server where the artichoke hearts were on both my order and my aunt's- she came back and said "oh, we're out of artichoke hearts". I asked why we weren't made aware and allowed to choose a different entree if they were out? She, again, had no answer, just a 'sorry'. 8 minutes into eating our cold meals, we were asked if anyone wanted boxes- they wouldn't even give us the common decency of letting us finish our dinner before trying to kick us out and seat the next party. At no point did a manager visit our table and ask how the meal was- in fact, a manager never visited any table in proximity to ask other patrons as well. No effort was made to address, or atone for, the absolutely horrible experience we had (not even a complimentary cup of coffee for the mothers at the table)- just a "here's your cold dinner missing ingredients you paid full price for, now take 2 bites and get out". Absolutely awful. This was the first time we gave A Salute our business and it will be the undeniable last. We left feeling thoroughly disregarded and embarassed to have brought family there. To say we were extremely displeased with our experience here is a gross understatement. Do not waste your time and money here, especially when so many other small businesses exist in both the immediate vicinity and neighboring towns that respect their patrons and don't purposely triple-book tables to maximize covers on a busy day. Inexcusable and shameful.

Ordered takeout from this restaurant. The cheese pizza looks and tastes like a frozen Ellio’s pizza for $18. Chicken parm came with 1 very small thin chicken cutlet and small portion of spaghetti for $32. EXTREMELY overpriced for portion sizes. Will not be ordering from here again

M
Mary G

1/29 Hostess not friendly, doesn’t greet you, and just looks miserable… Star Wars movie on all the screens (weird) and music did not create a fun vibe in the bar area. Food was not terrible but the Pizza was served on a metal cafeteria tray with no extra plate. Gluten free pasta with sauce was really tasty . Dirty martini had some kind of oil floating on top and much too dirty. JW black was a small pour for the money. Would have ordered a double if the server had informed us.

Went to A Salute tonight and was terribly disappointed. I had a 6:30 reservation for two and walked in at 6:20. Hostess offered a table next to the bar area which was crowded. Could barely see the table so didn’t think it was an option to sit there unless I wanted backsides in my face. We were then seated in the outdoor covered section. There was one outdoor heater. We sat on lawn furniture, so uncomfortable, not even able to sit back in the chair. Oh did I mention my feet were frozen because it was so cold. Calamari was sent back because it could have been used as a hockey puck. The bread basket had three pieces of hard bread. Thankfully the entrees were good and the waiter was friendly and helpful. Fancy prices, not worth it in my opinion. One visit and done.

L
Lauren Martin

Ordered a short rib pizza without arugula but got it with arugula and no short rib. When we called to get it fixed, the host said she put in no arugula but somehow it was entered in with no short rib. Said we had to get a refund from Uber eats but we just wanted a replacement to pick up. Then she put us on hold, but did not put us on hold and we overheard the manager discussing our issue rudely. They refused to remake the pizza unless we came back and paid for a new one. We’ve been loyal customers, but this was handled so poorly that we won’t be returning. The manager should truly be ashamed how they handled what was their mistake. And now we have no dinner and we’re still dealing with trying to get a refund from Uber after two failed attempts.

S
Semper

Went on a recommendation, and unfortunately the experience was a nightmare. We ordered both the muscles and the clams and they were both cold and the waiter was probably the worst waiter I’ve had he would disappear, we’d have to ask another server to get him. Almost everything we ordered had to be returned and heated back up again and brought back out. I was really looking forward to trying this place, but not a great experience.

R
Raquel Mendoza

It was late, we dont have time to cook and ear outside so I ordered something for pick up. I was very excited because it is our first time trying their food. Unfortunately, i put all my hopes very very high and was so disappointed when I got home and tried everything. The orrechiate sausage broccoli was very salty, seemed like the whole cheese accidentally thrown there in purpose. The ricotta cheesecake tasted super old. The chicken wings are not cooked inside. The calamari was very oily and gummy. I ended up making our own food at home. If I was not tired from work. I would have returned all of them and have the manager tasted them. This is actually my first time reviewing and posting so others would be aware.
