⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An outstanding review for Diego at Makoto Bal Harbour Diego was phenomenal — truly one of the best servers I’ve ever had! His energy, attention to detail, and genuine passion for hospitality turned our dinner into an unforgettable experience. Every recommendation he made was perfect, and his timing and professionalism were flawless. Diego goes above and beyond to make you feel special — a true star at Makoto Bal Harbour. If you want exceptional service, ask for Diego — he’s the definition of excellence!
High quality sushi here with a nice selection of tequilas. Really enjoyed the crispy rice and tuna selections. Ate at the bar and they were very quick and friendly. Would go back again!
Best spot for lunch or dinner in Bal Harbour. The atmosphere is beautiful and the staff are all very friendly. The food is delicious and always incredibly fresh. Definitely recommend!
A wonderful dining experience. The menu has a wide variety of unique dishes that are perfect for sharing or not sharing. Food arrives as completed by the kitchen, so don't wait to take the first bite. Service was superb and drinks were kept full. The table was kept organized and cleared of finished dishes to make room for more. Atmosphere was lively and upbeat with a dining area full of movement, but not crowded. Kudos to Eric and the rest of our waitstaff, the kitchen, and reception. Truly appeared to be all hands on deck to keep things moving.
We went here to catch up with our old friends, I definitely recommend making a reservation before you go especially for dinner, we came around 4-5p.m and was able to get table outside, but wanted inside since music was loud out and we had a new born. Food tasted delicious, fresh and looked colorful. We absorbers sushi and some appetizers.Octopus was a little too dry to my likings. But Skirt Steak and Sea bass was our favorite! Size of portions are on smaller size. Service was great! Lots of pretty people inside. We paid $600 (tip included) 4 adults
The best sushi experience I've had in a really long time. Our servers Anna and David were excellent and solidified an already outstanding meal. We had the pleasure of sitting outside too which was a great vibe. Highly recommend the tuna crispy rice and rainbow roll. The dessert really topped it off and was just as good as the sushi!
We had a 6:30 reservation but wanted to eat earlier and they were able to seat us. The restauant is very pretty, good vibes suitable for all group sizes. The cauliflower dish was the star of the show, so delicious. The wagyu meat was very good, and the sauces were nice. The tres leches was something else - each component by itself felt off (dry cake, soy icecream) but together formed the perfect bite. Miso soup and udon were standard, not bad but nothing exceptional. Matcha fizz drinks (one alcoholic one NA) were standard.
Makoto is one of the best dining options in Bal Harbour. The sushi here is fresh and the ramen was one of the evening's best dishes (huge bowls of piping hot broth with noodles). The setting is stylish and the the restaurant operates at full capacity most evenings so reservations are definitely recommended. The crowd here leans younger and the atmosphere is lively and energetic. Great for a quick meal after a full day of shopping.
Wow. Have. Of been to Makoto in 6 years. They have moved upstairs. Totally changed the look from dark beach like, to Asian like pink dining room. The good was phenomenal. The cauliflower, house salad, Coni salad, all well done and tasted great. The sushi some of the best ever, so fresh, the flavors out of this world. A must when in Miami.
Off course Makoto's executive sushi chef himself has treated us, all dishes were very good. Few items were ordered from kitchen and my wife had enjoyed them as well. Service was very prompt and atmosphere was light and vibrant. Great place to dine in.
Amazing experience at Makoto! The service and food were absolutely wonderful. We were taken care of by Bruno, who gave us an excellent welcome and provided outstanding service throughout the evening. Everything felt very special, from the dishes to the atmosphere. And the shoyu ice cream truly surprised me — I never imagined it could be so delicious! An incredible dessert and the perfect way to end the meal.
Went here for dinner with my family of 4 a few weeks ago and I can’t stop thinking about the food and service. Atmosphere was very cozy and inviting. We had a variety of plates and they were all so flavorful and satisfying. Highly recommend the Spicy Edame (not spicy at all) and the Chicken and Octupus Skewers. As for our server, Miyoko was super kind and went above and beyond to make us feel taken care of. Highly recommend this spot for a nice dinner and I hope you’re lucky enough to have Miyoko as your server. Also, recommend making a reservation as it seemed quite busy.
I have been to Japan and this is on par with what you will get there. Top quality. Really fresh. Makoto boasts the culinary expertise of executive chef Makoto Okuwa. Located in the upmarket Bal Harbour Shops, Makoto takes your dining experience to a whole new level. Lovely bright colours and cozy banquettes for indoor seating or the expanded outdoor dining area and more seats at the sushi counter. I opted for a seat in the outdoor dining area. Lovely atmosphere. I had a light lunch. I had the miso soup, Maguro sashimi and Sake sushi (2 pieces per order). If you have sushi, you can either choose one of the Chef’s Combinations or pick from the à la carte menu. There are a lot of other options as well if you don't want sushi. Lovely. Excellent service. I couldn't fault it. Not cheap but definitely worth the price. Highly recommend.

The staff is exceptionally attentive, and whether you’re dining inside or enjoying the breeze on the terrace, the atmosphere adds to a truly memorable experience.

Went for a lunch date , we enjoyed ourselves. The food , drinks, and atmosphere was amazing.
One of the best restaurants I’ve been to. I liked it better than Crustacean in Beverly Hills. Food was great. Server was helpful. But Cindy- the manager -made the experience over the top. She was a doll and took the time to have a conversation with my friend and I. Next time I am in Miami I will Make a point of coming again

I came to this spot tucked into Bal harbor for Miami Spice lunch and had such a refreshing experience. The pork belly was tender and flavorful, the tuna crispy rice was juicy and filling, and I finished it all off with a delicious tres leches dessert.
Very chic place. Hostesses were unfriendly and rushed, but waitress was great. Food was tasty. Well seasoned, flavorful, but small portions. I really enjoyed the seasonal Japanese barracuda sushi, and the octopus skewers. Great spot for a date, or sceney spot but I definitely think it’s possible to get equally good Japanese food elsewhere with less hype and expense.
Very chic and upscale place located at Bal Harbor. It is a very busy place and very loud so it is very hard to have any kind of conversation, except to yell across the table, especially if you have a larger part, so thats a real downside. However, the food and service is great, we had one dish that we were not crazy with and the server took it back and off the bill. Otherwise, a great evening with good food. Definately worth a visit to try out.
Came specifically for their seasonal menu. They offer several types of fish that aren’t readily available in many large US cities. Decided to start with their fatty tuna tartare to sample their staples - the miso sauce was a bit too strong. Overall a solid dish but nothing that truly stood out, especially for the price. The main attraction was their aforementioned seasonal menu. Beautifully prepared nigiri that sushi enthusiasts will appreciate. Most high end sushi restaurants will have access to excellent quality fish. Consistency and rice become the markers of stand out restaurants. Makoto’s rice was, in my opinion, near perfection. Soy sauce was not needed, the flavor infused into their rice perfectly complements the high quality fish they serve. The prices are quite steep. If you are a sushi enthusiast seeking out specific items on their seasonal menu, this is the place for you; if not, there are other places that will satisfy your wants at a significantly lower price point.
Celebrated wifey birthday at Makoto. Elmer was phenomenal. He took care of our table and provided top notched service. Food was good and fresh. The atmosphere was perfect for celebrating an occasion or just about anything. We would definitely come back.
