Such amazing treats for the palate!!!! We loved the french inspirated experience. We had a degustation menu, with small portions so we could taste so many different dishes in one same dinner. I loved everything! The staff ( especially the french person) was fantastic. The decoration was beautiful, with cozy private rooms for a nice group ambiance.
Came here to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Dishes are very well composed, balanced, and executed. Flavors are very much European inspired, but with nice inventive touches to keep things interesting! The squab dish was the highlight for me - perfectly mid-rare without being too gamey in flavor. My wife’s favorite was the octopus, served with a broth and pepper oil - fresh, bright flavors and texture had a nice bite. Service was very warm, welcoming and attentive. Very deserving of its 1 Michelin star, and is a prime example of that, even when compared with the more difficult European standards.
One of the best fine dining experience I had at Bay area - all food tasted great and was presented thoughtfully. A very memorable experience.
A home-like style Michelin restaurant. Food on average is very good with specially designed mixtures of flavors. Smoked steak is the best! The smoked flavor is very good. It's a nice place for celebration and they gave us a complimentary dessert for birthday.
Superb! We visited Chez TJ a few days ago for dinner and the whole experience was fantastic. We were treated to the seven course (plus multiples surprises from the kitchen) experience where you don't get to see the menu beforehand but get surprised at every course. The staff carefully noted any dietary restrictions and went out of their way to accommodate my wife's preferences (vegetarian but open to a few select types of fish). Every course was beautifully crafted with attention to the smallest details. Even the smallest addition to the plate was bursting with flavor. The kitchen really knows how to transform every ingredient and create wonderful and sometimes unexpected flavor combinations. A truly memorable meal! Service was fantastic throughout the 3+ hour experience and we will definitely come back for another dinner soon. Highly recommended!
The tasting menu is the one most people probably go for. Before they begin, they'll ask if you want a different type of meat, or something special added on like truffle. The tasting menu was an 8 course meal, and it was perfect. Each dish was incredibly well plated and the flavors really balanced each other out. They will give you a description of the dish, and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask - they are incredibly knowledgeable about the intricacies of the food. The service was *fantastic*, and the environment is inside an old Victorian home. It takes around 15-20 minutes after you finish your plate before the next one arrives. Expect the dinner to last around 2.5 hours.
I've come here for caviar and truffles quite a few times, and almost each visit begins with freshly baked levain. The small garden is also lovely. The restaurant is housed in a charming cottage, creating a quiet and cozy atmosphere. I've enjoyed good conversations with friends here, accompanied by memories of excellent food.
What a wonderful dining experience! The staff was very attentive and friendly, and the food was out of this world. The wine paired so nicely with the food as well. The wait between dishes was pretty long, so I probably won’t be dining here again any time soon. It was a lovely dinner though. Many thanks to the chef! :)
It was actually a nice experience with the spring special menu. Tastes are balanced, not too salty sauce or too sweet for desserts. Especially love the starting bites, flavorful bonito dish, plate cleanser sorbet, wagyu (sauce is terrific) and the two dessert dishes (beautiful Sakura mousse and tasty coconut Paris Brest). 7-course portion is big for me. I will revisit for 4-course in the future if the menu online looks good.
Amazing experience with a touch of grandeur and excellent staff to provide a memorable experience. Worth the spend for a special occasion. Our dinner was a 2.5 hour 7-course meal experience with every course cooked with such uniqueness, creativity and enjoyable taste. Staff explained every course in detail. They made a birthday celebration special with a nice dessert, custom menu card, greeting card and a cute gift bag. Definitely Worth the Michelin 🌟
I've been meaning to try this place out for years, and finally got around to it with several friends. What a wonderful experience. Really nice ambiance, excellent service and the food was amazing. It is everything you would expect from a restaurant with a Michelin star. I do have an issue with the fact that they only have a single bathroom. I understand it's a historical building, but are you telling me you can't put a nice porta potty in the garden? It really detracts from what is otherwise a quite pleasant and elegant experience. I highly highly highly recommend getting a wine pairing. You can even split a wine pairing which is what I do because it's just too much wine for one person.

Excellent French cuisine! Amazing experience, great ingredients, execution and presentation. Every bite is a flavorful explosion, be sure to pair the dishes with the recommended wine. You can close with the cheese cart, and will enjoy every course!

Had a chance to dine at Chez TJ last week. The charming Victorian House adds a distinct flair to this upscale dining experience. The newly acquired chef offered an exquisite array of dishes in the tasting menu. Will highly recommended the restaurant for a memorable meal. This was our second visit , we were very impressed again.
A Masterclass in Dining and Hospitality We had an absolutely amazing dinner at Chez TJ. From the first bite of the Pear Panna Cotta with Kaluga Caviar to the final Lime & Coconut Ganache, every course was beautifully executed and inventive. A massive standout of the evening was Ted, the sommelier and our server Jessie. They truly made the night for us. Not only is his knowledge of the wine list and the "Grand Wine Pairing" impeccable, but he is also incredibly funny and kind. He has a way of making high-end wine service feel approachable and genuinely fun, which really elevated the entire experience. If you go, definitely lean on his expertise—you’ll be in great hands.
Thank you so much for graciously hosting my us for our anniversary dinner at your amazing restaurant. We were treated like royalty. The food, service and wine were all superb. Most definitely Michelin Star worthy – without question. Ted is so knowledgeable and friendly. All the wait staff were incredible. But, the food was the star! Each course was unique and creative – and of course, delicious. I’ve told all my friends, and we look forward to returning over the holidays.
Dining at Chez TJ in Mountain View is an experience steeped in history, charm, and high expectations. The restaurant is located in a beautifully preserved Victorian house, and the setting is intimate and inviting - the kind of place that sets the tone for a special night out. The meal itself, however, was a bit of a mixed bag. The tasting menu featured a variety of dishes, many of which were technically well-executed but didn’t particularly stand out. The main fish course, in particular, was surprisingly bland, lacking the depth or creativity you might expect from a restaurant of this caliber. While nothing was bad per se, much of the meal felt more like a checklist of fine-dining tropes than a unique or inspired culinary journey. That said, there was one clear culinary high point: the steak course. It was, without exaggeration, one of the best steaks I’ve ever had - perfectly cooked with a rich, complex flavor and melt-in-your-mouth texture. It was a reminder of the kitchen’s potential and left a strong impression that lingered long after the plate was cleared. Service during dinner was adequate but slightly clumsy at times. There were a few awkward pauses between courses, and some interactions felt rehearsed or lacking in warmth. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but it also didn’t match the polish you’d expect from a Michelin-starred restaurant. There was one point where we had nearly 30 minutes between courses, which was noticeably long. What truly elevated the entire evening - and turned what might have been a forgettable experience into something genuinely memorable - was Ted, the sommelier and manager. From the moment he approached our table, he brought an energy and hospitality that felt deeply personal and sincere. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the wine pairings and offered thoughtful explanations without ever being overbearing. The highlight of the night came after dinner, when Ted graciously offered us a tour of the property and gardens. Walking through the grounds under the evening sky, hearing about the history of the house, the kitchen’s philosophy, and the care that goes into the garden-grown ingredients - it added an emotional and narrative depth that the meal alone hadn’t quite provided. In the end, I’m torn on Chez TJ. The food, while competent, didn’t quite live up to expectations aside from that incredible steak. The service during dinner could use more polish. But Ted alone is worth the visit. He brought soul, generosity, and a human touch that made the evening truly special. If you go, go for the setting, go for the steak - but above all, go for Ted.

Had a chance to dine at Chez TJ, and overall, it was a memorable experience. The food was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. However, the portion sizes were quite small. It’s more about the experience, presentation, and quality than leaving full. If you appreciate fine dining and don’t mind the smaller portions, Chez TJ delivers on taste and attention to detail.
I really appreciate the effort that went into this restaurant. It’s a charming spot set in what feels like a converted family home with a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Each dish was beautifully presented and you can tell there was a lot of thought put into the details. That said, the flavors didn’t quite meet my expectations. While everything looked great, the taste was just okay for me. Still, I respect the heart and care they clearly put into the experience.
3 out of 7 courses were nice. Staff was friendly and warm. Service was ok like any other restaurant, nothing great. The place is a house converted to a restaurant, really cozy but need some light music/upgrades is what I felt. Overall it's a good one time tryout restaurant. I expected more from a Michelin star restaurant.
I recently visited Chez TJ and, unfortunately, my experience did not live up to expectations, especially considering the reputation of the restaurant. Upon arrival, the service was not what I’d expect from a fine dining establishment. No one offered to take our coats, and I had to point out and ask multiple times before they understood it should be taken. The lack of attentiveness continued as we waited a long time for our order to be taken, which was frustrating. That being said, the food was quite good, and I particularly enjoyed the smoked quail—it was delicious. However, the overall atmosphere and service left much to be desired, and I don’t think I’ll be returning in the future. While the food was tasty, the experience wasn’t worth the lack of warmth and attentiveness in the service.
Ah! For a place I’ve been waiting to go for so long, it was disappointing. For the price I have been at places that have literally wow’ed me and Chez TJ couldn’t be one of them. Firstly, we told them one of the party does not eat beef but ok with everything else. The entire course for that person was fish on top of fish. The host was so distracted. There was no one at the entrance to welcome. Unfortunately we will not be back.

Food had some interesting flavors, but the seasoning was wildly inconsistent. Had components that were too salty, some too bland (first time I've had sauces that take flavor away from the meat), some excessively sour. Even the palate cleanser was unpalatably sweet. Disappointing consider how nice the ingredients were. Service was well intentioned but awkward and had an inconsistent vibe (felt like every server was employed by a different restaurant). The desserts were solid so props to the pastry chef. (Though the coconut cookies at the end were also inedibly sweet)

We visited Chez TJ in Mountain View for a special farewell dinner for my mom. While the food was ok and the service during the meal was acceptable, our experience was ultimately ruined by an upsetting and unprofessional encounter with the restaurant manager. Before our visit, we called ahead to ask if we could pay with a Chinese credit card. The manager (who also serves as the sommelier) said he would look into it and call back—but never did. When we tried to use the card after dinner, it didn’t work, I went to take a look, and instead of offering help, the manager dismissed us rudely, saying, “I told you this wouldn’t work,” in a tone that felt condescending and cold. He told us we were “blocking the way” and walked off, leaving us confused and uncomfortable. We tried to speak with the manager to express our frustration and seek a respectful conversation, but he repeatedly avoided responsibility, cut us off, and showed no willingness to understand our perspective. At one point, he even walked away mid-discussion, saying he had other guests to attend to, leaving us waiting for nearly 10 minutes. What followed was one hour of back-and-forth where we simply asked for an acknowledgment of the miscommunication and his dismissive tone — not any compensation. Instead, he remained defensive, blamed us for the situation, and implied we were at fault. To make matters worse, he suggested we were trying to get a discount, saying, “We’re not giving you a comp or discount — at most, we can offer you a glass of wine,” which felt insulting and dismissive of our genuine concerns. Even after we firmly requested a written apology, the manager only agreed and admitted to forgetting to return our call. When we asked him to acknowledge his dismissive attitude, he added a vague statement about “both parties having tone issues,” continuing to avoid any real accountability for his behavior or the way he handled the situation. For a Michelin-star restaurant, we expected not only decent food, but also professionalism, courtesy, and basic respect. Unfortunately, what was meant to be a warm and celebratory evening turned into a stressful and emotionally exhausting experience. Throughout the exchange, we felt disrespected and unwelcome — particularly as Chinese guests — and couldn’t help but question whether there was an underlying bias. The manager's attitude left us feeling deeply offended, and we sincerely hope the restaurant reflects on how it treats its guests and handles concerns in the future. Thanks.
