So, my wife and I have driven by this place hundreds of times, going back and forth to town and home. We have commented to each other, wondering what the Ham Stand was all about. Finally, just a couple of days ago, we drove by and Googled the Ham Stand. Today, on my way home, I was driving by and decided, what the heck. Once inside, I was greeted by a lovely lady who turned out to be the owner, Rose. As we were talking, I just happened to notice several monster chocolate chip cookies on the counter. After being told they had just come out of the oven, I informed Rose that one of them was coming home with me. I got the Gobbler turkey sandwich. I chose a white bread roll instead of the standard rye bread. I brought it all home and shared it with my wife. Both of us were extremely impressed with the quality of the ingredients, especially the bread and turkey. The cookie was fantastic, too. It was warm and crisp, full of chocolate chips. I read some of the reviews here where folks are complaining about the price. Yes, it is more expensive than Subway. But the quality of what you are getting is so far above a Subway Sandwich, it isn't even close. Subway has gotten very expensive now, so the Ham Stand isn't that much more. And, the old adage, "you get what you pay for," couldn't be truer if you are complaining that the Ham Stand is more expensive than Subway. It is a totally different eating experience. Give it a shot, the food and Rose won't leave you disappointed.
BEST SANDWICH EVER!!!! The meat and bread was TOP NOTCH! I got the ham standard and it did not disappoint. I also got a snack stick and the flavor was delightful. I will go again
Simply the best sandwiches. Great service, people and meats. Will be returning again and again
Stopped in for lunch and had the special for the day, the fried chicken sandwich. And easily one of my top five favorites. Not only do they have lunch but cured meats, sauces, tallow, sausage. A must try if in Nevada City!
Great little sandwich shop with good selection of charcuterie (cured meats and cheese). My favorite sandwiches are the roast beast and the gobbler (each $15)! The daily specials are amazing too! They also have meat from local farms, local wine and beer, bacon they cure in-house, and house-made sausages that are delicious! Check this place out if you get a chance!
Found it unexpectedly and it was great! Recently opened meat/deli market. Sausages, bacon, etc and great sandwiches fresh. Also fresh baked cookies... Chocolate chip and we also had Fennel/Pine Nut cookie that was super out of this world.
My absolute favorite spot in the area. I'm ashamed to admit the number of times I've found myself coming in multiple days in a row. All the employees are knowledgeable and clearly enthusiastic about their product and process, I've yet to have a recommendation go wrong and honestly don't think I could considering everything I've tried has been worth talking about. Photo attached shows the Cosmic Roots Dry Cured Bacon that I cooked up, just look for yourself. You get what you pay for and each item is an experience in itself, I just cannot say enough good things about this place and will be happily returning for as long as I can.
Today I had to rereview! My turkey gobbler was SOOO delicious! And my son’s Ruben- stellar. I am a somewhat frequent visitor and am NEVER anything but happy, satisfied and grateful for all the wonderful food. TY Ham Stand. A local treasure to be sure ☀️🎉💖
WHAT!! This place is all the way off the meat hook! So amazing, hard to summarize... Got my 2 year old back into eating meat with their bratwurst! Absolutely the best meat in town, sorry SPD, sorry Briar Patch ;) Just grabbed some sausages for my Birthday lasagna and Oh my! Thank you guys so much for bringing the independent butcher shop back to Nevada City. A dedicated meat market, albeit small; is well received! HIGHLY recommended to all. Stop by with a special order or grab something off the shelf for dinner tonight!

One of our favourite stops while in Nevada city that we came 3 days in a row - their Reuben is AMAZING. Best one we’ve ever had because they use a brisket-like meat. We also did their Italian sausage sandwich, their fried chicken sandwich (their Thursday special) and the Ham Standard. All of which were really good! Their service is amazing and they specially held 2 steaks for us to pick up 2 days later and the quality of the meat was just amazing! Highly recommend to stop before a hike or camping if you’re in the area!!
They really care about what they are putting out. The meats are homemade. Never disappoints, I've had 4 different sandwiches there and each one is competing with the best I've ever had. Well worth the visit.
Awesome sandos! Good value for high quality food. All the staff/leads are sincerely friendly, especially Kevin. Get the special of the day. You can't go wrong with that. Nice off the beaten path location. Totally enjoyable food!
Yes. Don’t skip this place if you’re looking for the best sandwich you’ve had in a long time. So much love and intention put into these edible creations.
I’ve tried the Gobbler, the fried chicken sandwich, the banh mi, and the meatball sub. They are all phenomenal! This is hands down the best sandwich spot in NV/GV. Every ingredient tastes fresh and homemade. The staff are fun and helpful. I’m so happy I found this spot. Try it, you won’t regret it.

We ordered catering for a birthday party (sandwiches for lunch and BBQ for dinner). Everything was delicious and delivered on time! Would highly recommend!

The Ham Stand's food is at least as good, if not better than food from the Gourmet Ghetto area in Berzerkeley. Having lived and eaten there for 40 years, I am used to top-notch food. I think I've discovered Nevada City's own Gourmet Ghetto right here.
Tuesday special meatball sandwich is exceptional! Very fresh roll toasted to perfection, generous home made meatballs are very savory, sauce of Italian origins with and provolone cheese. I wish everyday was Tuesday. The Reuben knocks it outa the park too.

Best Reuben I think I've ever had. They're running a pretty nifty operation there. I'm happy to pay near $20 a sandwich to keep small shops like this in our neighborhood. The cost almost deterred me as I waited in line, but I'm really happy I got to experience that delicious Reuben.
I finally went here..june 2nd..see receipt. I wanted to give it 5 stars but the roast beef sandwich for over 19 bucks was way too expensive for the product. It does not come with chips or soda. No inside dining but there is some picnic chairs to sit on outside. There was alot of hype..unfortunately it did not wow me. One side of the sandwich was thick and the other half was about half as much meat. I do like that they have some really nice cheeses and salamis. I did buy some chorizo sausages..hope they turn out good! No beer or wine is available. Friendly employees. I hope they do well in Nevada City....

Overpriced. The sandwiches are good, not super big, but quality meats. Atmosphere...not the best. Sort of a counter culture grunge hangout for local drifters kinda vibe. To be clear, it's just a shack with no seating inside. Some picnic tables outside. The issue is the price. It's just a deli. Not a restaurant. Yet with tax and tip yiur paying $25. For a sandwiches. Bratwurst $12. For a sausage. Drinks, sides, chips, etc. Similarly overpriced. $4 for a can of coke that I grab out of a refrigerator? Really?
Went for lunch and heard they had the best Ruben in town… nope it was not. There was close to no meat in the sandwich. It was ALL fat. I ended up throwing it away. The bread was burnt. Not worth the $20+ per sandwich Not a good experience. Won’t be going back unfortunately

Way Overpriced. My wife and I picked up a couple sandwiches for a hike. We figured that for $20 apiece they would be loaded. They were smaller than Subway's 6" subs. Had I paid $6 - $8 for the sandwiches, they would have been ok. They weren't even loaded up with meat. We were disappointed and wouldn't go back. SPD's sandwiches are 1/3 the price and 3X as good.
We got sandwiches for 7 people and no one thought they were good or sizable enough to be $20 each (prices not available online). If this were a $12 grocery store sandwich it would’ve been fine but in this context it was disappointing. We also had a pescatarian member of our party, staff was difficult to deal with trying to find something suitable stating they have no vegetables on the premises until we just asked if they could do a grilled cheese. Pickle spear was sad and pitiful. Guy at the register had a sick mustache tho.
