I love the art in here, it’s very bright, colorful, but also comfortable and chill. If you’re looking for a place to sit down, have a few drinks and chat, this is perfect. Only got the chips and guac, but it was a good amount for 3. Bartender is the sweetest. Can’t complain here.
Had a great night with friends. Food was great, vibes were better. Brandon was my server and he was amazing. He deserves all the cudos, will be coming back and requesting him every time.
We came here for an early evening meal after visiting the Tenement Museum at the other end of Orchard Street. We enjoyed delicious happy-hour margaritas, attentive service and delicious food. Beet salad starter was wonderful, followed by a knock-out selection of tacos and quesadillas. Lovely chilled atmosphere. Would definitely recommend, and hope to come back some day...
Stopped in here by chance and had an amazing time. The entire staff wanted to make sure we had a good time. The music was great and the bartender gave us good recs on drinks. It’s a must!
This place rocks! I love this place, vegan elote (Mexican corn with toppings) is excellent the guac is so creamy and the tacos were fire I highly recommend trying anything on the menu also the Horchata is bomb! The bathroom is in the basement, very clean and the whole spot has a great Mexican themed art and is decorated with cute colorful flags! We came here looking for a bathroom and found awesome food and stayed for great service. You gotta check this place out and support local eats!
We ate here as part of a private party ( birthday). The whole back space was reserved. I can’t say enough about how well we treated and how delicious the food was. Everything was fresh, and the staff was always checking on things, replenishing the food and drinks, and overall making it a great event. I’d recommend it highly. In addition, the neighborhood is interesting and hip, with restaurants, galleries, etc.
Very nice place. Service was great food and drinks delicious. Will definitely come back for the paella.
Franklin and Gabriel were fantastic! The service was great and the food was amazing. I really enjoyed the music and vibes. 10/10 would go back whether it’s to hang out, bring my parents, or go on a date.
Has such and amazing drink with my husband and highly recommend getting the Mango Mezscalita drink here.
Love the place, the people who attended it are great and really charming, portions in food are good, and food taste is awesome. Also great music and having a cup or a few beers might be one of your best decisions. Wall pain are super cool and as a Mexican, I gotta say that they made me feel like at home. I definitely recommend it and would go back without hesitation.
Wow was that good. Incredibly fresh and flavorful. Everything we ordered was unique in the best way. A little hip but not overly so, and a good bang for your buck! We'll definitely be back.
It’s rare to find really good Mexican food in Manhattan (no, Rosa, Dos Camino, blah blah are overpriced mediocrity) This new LES/Chinatown spot has broken the spell. Everything tastes superbly made-from-scratch. We had the fish tacos, birria tacos, and enchilada mole, and it was all very good. I could drink the consume that comes with the birria tacos all day. They just got their liquor license so margs will be on the menu in a week, can’t wait to go back
Mictlan Restaurant is a true hidden gem! The food is absolutely delicious — every dish feels like it was made with love and tradition. The flavors are authentic, portions are generous, and the presentation is beautiful. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always makes you feel welcome. I especially recommend their house specials and fresh margaritas — they are the perfect combination for a great night out.
Mictlan was overall a great spot. The food was flavorful, and the service was super attentive and respectful. The churros were a specific standout. They were warm, crisp, and perfectly dusted with cinnamon sugar, obviously made from fresh. I was impressed by how well they balanced both Mexican and Spanish dishes, especially the paella, which was rich and cooked just right. Definitely a place I’d recommend if you’re looking for quality, comfort, and a bit of variety.
If you’re in the Lower East Side and want the best Mexican food paired with the best drinks you’d be hard pressed to find better! Be sure to go when Brandons working he’s like magic with the margarita!
Great venue! I attended a beautiful wedding reception there. The service was great and the food was amazing. Thank you for a great time!
Truly amazing! Our server, Brandon was the best. Such great service and delicious food. Thank you Mictlan and Brandon!
The service and food was great. Brandon was a server and bartender there and his kindness made the experience better!
I recently dined at a charming Mexican restaurant that truly exceeded my expectations. The highlight of my meal was the amazing langostinos—perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection, they were a delightful treat that brought vibrant flavors of the ocean to my plate. The beef dishes were equally impressive, boasting rich, savory tastes that had clearly been crafted with care. What made this dining experience even more special was the warm atmosphere created by the lovely family running the place—a hardworking father and his talented daughter. Their genuine passion for cooking and hospitality shone through in every interaction, making us feel like part of their family rather than just customers. The inviting ambiance, paired with exceptional food and friendly service, makes this restaurant a hidden gem that I can’t recommend highly enough. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their delicious offerings!
My friends and I accidentally found this spot and it was a pleasure! We took a few snacks and all of them were delicious. Alexa is super nice and always ready to assist. I have all desires to come back again!
First time here. The host Brandon was very friendly, chatted with us and served us. Great service The bartender made some yummy pina coladas. The paella was delicious. The guacamole was out of this world. I would come back again to try the other goodies on the menu. Nice casual atmosphere
Love the happy hour with the most delicious margaritas ever (not too sweet, not too sour, they also have spicy, or with mezcal). The service and food are amazing. We come here at least once a week, and it is ALWAYS good. They also have outside seating.
I was blown away at how good the shredded beef tacos were and the mezcal margarita was. The waiters are fantastic, super kind and have great personalities. We went for the taco and drink happy hour from 3 to 7. This is easily the best happy hour in the Lower East Side with the best service.
The food was so delicious, the staff is so friendly, service is top notch, great atmosphere, everything arrived on time, the Drawing of New York are Amazing, so unique place in Town, can't wait to be back!
Good vegan options. Good bone marrow soup. So something for everyone. Plus they gave me a shot.
Amazing happy hour. $5 draft beers and $9 cocktails (the mezcalita is delicious). Location and atmosphere are lively and fun. Our servers Adrian and Emmanuel were excellent. 10/10 recommend.
I came here when they first opened their coffee bar in the front and it was so pleasant! They were so nice, coffee was delicious, and it was much more reasonably priced than other coffee places in the area. Can’t wait to come back!
My favorite Mexican restaurant!!. Food is amazing, I’m a big fan of their shrimp ceviche and skirt steak (arrachera) with rice and beans, every time I order it tastes exactly the same. They make you feel like home. The waiters are so friendly and sweet and they always thank you with shots on the house. I decided to celebrate my birthday there and I asked for a special menu suggestion. They offered to prepare paella and bone marrow … OMG, it was the best food ever ever. Thank you guys for making my bday so special and for being so welcoming every time I visit.
If you’re looking for bold, unforgettable flavors, Mictlan Mexico and Spanish Food is a must-visit in NYC. Every dish we tried was a hit—especially the tacos al pastor and the seafood paella, pulpo a la gaella, bursting with fresh, authentic taste. The guacamole was heavenly, and the tres leches was the perfect sweet ending. The vibrant atmosphere and friendly service made the whole experience even better. Don’t miss this spot—your taste buds will thank you!
I dropped in this place with one of my kids for a quick meal before a movie. The food was delicious. I ordered a shrimp burrito and my daughter had beef tacos. The service and the ambiance were excellent, too. Mictlan Mexican is a really charming place with excellent service and great food!
My girl friends and I had the best experience here! Brandon was our server and he treated us very well. We had the vegetarian quesadilla and the steak tacos and they were superb. Highly recommend this spot as a pregame before going out - their margs are the best!
Honestly it’s a must! Everything was delicious. Drinks on point, ambiance 11/10. If you are having paella buckle up because it’s top, staff service attentive specially Brandon who took care of us like we were family
I ordered the Mole Poblano, which was really delicious and served with rice, beans and tortillas. As dessert we had a Tres Leches that was tasty but not as moist as I remember it. The service was A+++. They were super attentive, nice and made the experience a good one. The atmosphere is beautiful and feels very authentic. I recommend giving it a try!
My fiancée seemed a little drunk when we met so I tried taking her to a local Mexican spot. She was not completely continuous but she seems to like the food. It did take them a little bit to bring the food but it was fresh. The dessert was really cool. We did the drinks without the simpel syrup so it's not as sweet. She might not remember this tbh. The personale touch was very cozy. (Shoooooots)
Visited mid week for dinner. Got a table immediately. Place has a nice tequila and mezcal selection with some good cocktail options. Menu is what I call standard Mexican options. Food was very good and fresh, service was friendly. Loved the mole poblano!
Best Mexican Spanish fusion restaurant I’ve been to. Every ingredient serves a purpose to the plate including the salsas. The appetizers, entres and drinks they were all delicious. Hospitality was also great We had cilantro paella, tomato salad, jamon flan and tres leches. Nothing but delicious food
Went for Happy Hour and it was an A+ experience. I can't recall the last time I felt like I got a good deal after dining out in Manhattan. This is the place for that.
This place is a hidden yummy restaurant near Canal street. Is cozy and warm, and def filling. As a Mexican myself the food taste very authentic. The drinks are so yummy. We had margaritas, enchiladas chile rellenos and the guacamole is amazing! Boris and his wife are so welcoming. Thank you for the lovely experience. Arriba Mexico🇲🇽
This was our second time at Mictlan because we enjoyed the paella so much previously. We were seated promptly and happily greeted by our server, Franklin. As we perused the menu, Franklin was very helpful in explaining the options, specials, and suggestions. Throughout our experience, he was most attentive and friendly with a big smile...not something that one always find in the city. Not only was the food, fajitas, guac, and paella delicious, With his ljoyful and outgoing demeanor, Franklin made our experience a very nice night out with our son.
We had a wedding celebration and we received a very special attention and a lot of support from Boris, Alexa and their amazing waiters. The food was really delicious, the place, the music were all perfect. They supported us in everything we asked and beyond. Our guests were happy about the great moment we had at Mitclan. I would recommend this place 100% and will definitely go back.
I had my wedding at Mictlan, and it was absolutely spectacular! The team took care of everything — from the decorations to the food and service — and made the entire experience completely stress-free. They created a truly magical atmosphere where my spouse, our friends, and I had an unforgettable time. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate such a special day. Highly recommend Mictlan for any important event! Special shout out to Boris and Alexa for such attentive and thoughtful service!
Last minute stumbled upon this place and the food was exceptional. Everything came out hot and delicious. Loved the tacos (Al pastor and chicken). Classic Margaritas were delicious and strong. The music was also a great selection and we were able to converse over the volume of the restaurant without screaming. Service was attentive and kind! Would come back here again.
Chile's Relleno here are the best I’ve ever had. The pepper had the perfect texture, and the cheese inside was perfectly melty, complemented by a delicious tomato sauce. The service was spectacular—I sat on the couch at the entrance and immediately felt at home. The ambiance was wonderful. Highly recommended!
Mictlán Mexican and Spanish Food is a true culinary gem. The service and customer care are top-notch — friendly, attentive, and always welcoming. The food is absolutely incredible — I highly recommend the paella and pulpo a la gallega, some of the best I’ve ever had! The place is spotlessly clean, and the atmosphere is vibrant and cozy, perfect for any occasion. Without a doubt, a place I’ll keep coming back to. Highly recommended!
I had a great time at this restaurant. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was really good—everyone was kind and quick to help. The food was delicious. The paella was full of flavor with tender seafood and perfectly cooked rice. The steak was juicy and cooked just right. I also tried the tacos—they were fresh, tasty, and had just the right amount of spice. The enchiladas were cheesy, saucy, and very comforting. Overall, a great place to enjoy a good meal. I’ll definitely come back!
I recently visited this charming Mexican restaurant, and I was blown away! From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted by stunning, vibrant decor that truly captured the essence of Mexico. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a cozy dinner or a fun night out. The food was absolutely delicious – every dish was packed with flavor and made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The cocktails were also a highlight, expertly crafted and refreshing. The service was friendly and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. A perfect blend of great food, drinks, and atmosphere! I can’t wait to come back!
The service was exceptional. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about the food, making fantastic recommendations throughout the meal. It was clear that the staff truly cares about providing a top-notch dining experience. If you're looking for an authentic Spanish meal in a cozy, inviting setting, I highly recommend Mictlan Mexico It's a true gem, and I can't wait to return!
Great food! I usually order food over the phone on Mondays. I love the food from this place, but when I order by phone, the person who answers doesn’t seem to understand English well and often gets my order wrong, so I end up missing items when my food arrives at home. Yesterday, I decided to visit the restaurant for the first time. There is a very friendly man in his early 40s with glasses who seems to do everything by himself. He looks overwhelmed working alone, and I believe he is the one who doesn’t understand English well. I ordered tacos and a margarita. My tacos were correct, but the margarita came with the wrong flavor. The place is beautiful, the food is great, and this man is very kind, but they need someone to help distribute the tasks and communicate in English.
Ordered the happy hour tacos. The al pastor meat was delicious, I recommended it. Drinks have room to improve
First off, the best: Service, ambiance and drinks. Service is fantastic, friendly and they are very knowledgeable about Mexican food. Right when you walk in there you see the decoration is absolutely beautiful, it is theme as Mictlan which is the path before going to heaven (the path they follow in the movie Coco lol). We had the carnitas plate…it was ok? I mean it was the first time I had cube carnitas, the flavor is a different flavor from traditional carnitas because I’m guessing the cooking method is different. We also order the cochinita burrito but it also wasn’t great, I just didn’t like it but my son did. On the other hand the appetizers were great, guacamole and fries were really good. Drinks were great!!! I don’t remember how many margaritas I had tamarind, guava, strawberry. We have to go back to have the food again and order something different so we can hopefully change this to a 5 star!
The nachos were great. the kid's tenders and fries were really good. The watermelon ceviche was nice. The watermelon marinade was refreshing. The mussel were ok. The sauce tasted like canned tomato sauce with paprika. The calamari was good. The green and red hot sauces are damn good. The tomato salad was nice. Prices are great. Service was good.
tasty spanish-mex restaurant-bar with avg prices for lowman. larger menu than you can find elsewhere with paella, Chile relleno, mole poblano. ceviches were on the fresher side; verde tasted of cucumbers and the mictlan of watermelon. smaller portions service was really kind and helpful. family owned and operated tasteful music playing with a quiet crowd. great for late night bites when nothing else is open + Latin inspired drinks
Girl's night out here, and those birria tacos were amazing! The vibe was so chill and the art was gorgeous. Only thing? The waiters kept snatching our plates way too early – three times! We weren't done, and it wasn't even busy. Felt like they were trying to rush us out. Besides that, we had a blast.
Came to Mictlan México and Spanish Cuisine for their Cinco de Mayo special—three tacos and a drink for $20—and it did not disappoint. The food was tasty, the drinks were great, and the service was amazing. I arrived around 4 p.m., just after they opened, and it felt like I had the restaurant to myself. By 5:30 p.m., it was definitely packed, so making a reservation might be worthwhile. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Mid food and terrible service. Went for happy hour. Took forty five minutes after sitting for someone to come and take my order. Tacos were bland and on the smaller side. I got my drink 10 minutes after the food came out. The mojito tasted like nail polish remover. When we got the check, there was an error on the bill. They also automatically added 20% gratuity for a party of 2. Wouldn’t come again.
Overall the experience was okay, the service was nice but extremely slow with ordering and serving food. Went with my mom for mother’s day and the restaurant was relatively empty but the staff still took 15-20 minutes to take our order then roughly an hour for all of the food to come out. Food was good but prices were high especially with a mandatory 20% tip. Also weird paintings.
Food and drinks were mostly decent, but inconsistently priced. Service was just plain bad considering there was hardly anyone in there. Would've probably had a couple more drinks, but simply ran out of patience looking for the waiter. Waiter was hanging out on the couch out front after we finally managed to get someone else to give us our bill and leave.
I have never felt the need to write a poor review, however I hope this serves as a critique for this place to improve their efficiency and customer service. I have seen a lot of positive reviews from this place but I unfortunately did not get the same consistent experience. We got sat during happy hour and waited 45 minutes for them to take our order even though they weren’t at full capacity. When the food came out, we were disappointed as the Al pastor tacos lacked flavor and the portions were small. The drinks were also not consistent in taste since my friend and I ordered the same thing. On top of the already poor service and food, they added a 20% gratuity charge without our knowledge for just the 2 of us.
Food was great, frozen margarita was not (like a sugary slushie), service was surprisingly bad - I had to call out to get the waiter every time I needed them even just for water refills, and the host wandered away halfway through leading me to the seating area, leaving me to find my own table. They auto-add 20% gratuity to every check, you have to catch it on the first check they bring you otherwise that's how it'll get rung up. May just have been an off night for them, but it's hard to imagine hankering to go back.
Horrible staff. Horrible service. Unskilled kitchen and waitstaff. Horrible food. No salt. Horrible drinks. Horrible vibe. Smelled like Chinese food the whole time. Over priced. Bad management. Loud banging noises. Restroom locks broken. Weird art. Tip included so had no choice but to pay. Never come here. Everyone was unhappy. I'm hoping they shut down asap. +1 star because they gave everyone a drink on the house. They up charged us for credit card and told us only after we paid, which is illegal. Many of us did not get the correct food item or it was not prepared the way they stated. This is also illegal. They're very lucky we don't make more of a scene. I'd say they owe me a free meal but I will never come back and will make sure everyone knows it. Ps chile relleno was 75% cheese and 25% of the chile had gone bad. P.ps. On my way out they wanted to talk to me about my review. The only thing they adressed were the two words I said above that were “weird art”. The host and daughter of the owner told me “our service is perfect. There’s nothing wrong with our service. They wouldn’t address anything else I said in the review. Clearly not the professional type.
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted to a worker (whom I think is the hostess) but she was on her phone talking to someone. She told us someone would take us to our table and we were sat immediately. The man who served us water and our food was very nice and appeared to be the only one really working beside one other person. Most of the workers were huddled together talking amongst themselves. Not once did they ask if we needed more water after the pitcher was emptied, or if we needed napkins as we were eating. Also, as the bell from the kitchen rang multiple times, the workers wouldn’t move an inch and made the only one really working do it. Service was terrible and made our experience horrible. Food: •My friend really enjoyed her birria tacos and would recommend it to others. •I ordered a steak burrito. I simply do NOT recommend and will not eat there again. It is NOT worth it. (Honestly i’m not sure how you can mess up a burrito that bad.) To drink: Piña colada, which I simply do NOT recommend, especially when it’s $9 Overall: service was horrible, food was not to my standards, and the drink I ordered was horrible! Would not come here again.
Can't handle large parties and isn't a good birthday spot. That sums up the bulk of my experience at this restaurant. So my friends and I were celebrating a birthday, there were 6 of us in total. The service was slow, and we had to keep grabbing the waiters ourselves to get them to put in orders or remember what we ordered. We ordered several drinks for happy hour and they overcharged us by miscounting how many drinks we ordered. I think there's an organization problem going on. Also the food was subpar, and not worthy of the price. I ordered an 18 dollar burrito that was okay in flavor and came with the smallest dollop of pico you've ever scene which I thought was strange for the price. Also you get two small tacos for 16 dollars, my friends said they were tasty enough. Lastly, I asked our waiter, "Do you do anything for birthdays." He said yes. I remind him twice about what's going on with whatever surprise he's going to do, because it was getting late and we were waiting for the check. He tells me he's bringing a cake. The flan cake comes, it's pretty, and okay tasting. We look on our bill and he charged us for that too. When questioned about why he said, "The restaurant doesn't do anything for free." I wish I was told that asking, "If he does something for birthdays?" meant an upcharge on the bill. Because if I had known that, I would've ordered a desert my friend may have actually liked. Most restaurants have a dedicated birthday treat that is free and he gave me the same impression and did not say otherwise. Truly subpar service, and subpar food. Drinks were good though, not worthy of their non- happy hour price and slow to arrive however.
Food had no depth or flavor - octopus was chewy and not well cooked. Burrito was meh. Enchiladas were in a sweet mole sauce and the tortillas weren’t even cooked. Wouldn’t recommend at all
The food was burnt and lacked taste and the manager refused to refund or swap the food out even though it was hardly eaten and prepared poorly. Extremely long wait time as well, lacked efficiency. Would not try again, manager obviously does not care about keeping customers happy, tense energy as soon as I expressed that I wasn’t content with the food. You could tell just my pulling the fries apart that they were not prepared correctly. Other people seemed to enjoy their food, might have had a different energy towards me because I was one of the only darker skinned people present.
The best word to describe my experience of this place is disappointment :/ Chicken burrito was really dry and the chicken was burnt. Shrimp burrito tastes like tomato paste 🤷♀️ They didn't count the drinks for the happy hour price in actual happy hour :/ Cockroach in the restroom downstairs (next to kitchen) The check was very high for such a place. I will never go to this place again. I do NOT recommend you try this place. Thanks for reading 🫶🏻
Catastrophic Dining Experience — Not Even Worth a Taste If I could rate this place -5 stars, I absolutely would. To say the food was horrible would be a generous understatement; it was truly catastrophic. From the moment we arrived, the signs were there, all red flags, no green ones. While the customer service was decent overall, one staff member seemed unfamiliar with the menu offerings, which didn’t inspire much confidence. We placed our order for nachos, tacos, and fries and waited. During that time, a couple sat down at a nearby table and left within three minutes. Looking back, we should have followed their lead; the universe was trying to warn us. When the food arrived, it only confirmed our regrets: I ordered nachos, but what I received was more like nacho soup. Despite customizing my order to avoid anything that would make the chips soggy (removing black beans and other wet toppings), the dish came drenched in sauce, guacamole, and even pineapple. Lifting a chip revealed a pool of orange liquid at the bottom. Nachos are supposed to stay crispy, but these were inedible. The fries were a complete disaster: beyond soggy and unfit to eat. The tacos were baffling; only two tiny tacos were served. Who serves just two mini tacos as a full dish? Despite the dreadful experience, we still paid the bill and left only to find another place to eat because we couldn’t stomach what we were served. Final thoughts? Some restaurants miss the mark. This one wasn’t even in the stadium. The food was so bad, you couldn’t pay me to eat here again.
I called to make a reservation in the morning, by the time I showed up later that day they told me there was a private event. They were rude and blamed me; I wasn’t confrontational but just surprised that they insisted I was lying (I had no reason to, plenty restaurants in the block) but it changed my plans at last minute. If they made a mistake it’s all good but don’t blame people that are trying to buy from you. Unacceptable.
While the food was alright and it was nice to sit outdoors, the service here was actually appalling. The waiter, who based on our receipt was named Brandon (curly hair, 070 shake-esque look to them), acted like they didn’t want to be here, and that our presence was a nuisance to them. There was never a smile on their face, they acted as if our entrance to the establishment was an inconvenience. Every time we tried to flag his attention, he would either be on his phone or sitting on the couch inside. He never checked in, and when we asked for more chips he never gave them to us - we had to get the other waiter, who was incredibly kind, to get us the chips. at the end, I had to go inside and get his attention so that we could pay. Surprisingly, he mentioned while paying that there is an included 20% tip. While I always give good tips to service workers, I don’t believe that the customers should have to pay a minimum of 20% tip when the service is subpar. This waiter acted like he didn’t want to be there, like we were an inconvenience to his night. When I spend my money at an establishment, I want to feel welcomed and that the waiter actually cares about the service they give, and not that it’s just some job they need to show up to to get their paycheck. When I come into a restaurant as a customer, I am kind to the servers; Therefore, I expect the same kindness in return. It doesn’t hurt to be kind and attentive… I mean… that’s your job!
