Came in for the Pork Belly Banh Mi and was not disappointed by any means. Bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside as it sopped up the juices from the pickled veggies and the sauce. The sauce is mild on the spice with a little tang which complimented both the pickled veggies and pork belly incredibly. Last but certainly not least, the star of the show, the pork belly was sooo tender it basically just melts in your mouth. 10/10 definitely recommend!
Saiguette has a really excellent Banh Mi. The lemongrass pork shoulder is my absolute favorite, the spicy creamy sauce is delicious and the pork is juicy. The veggies inside are generously portioned and the bread is crispy and soft. I probably eat it once a week and its genuinely almost a perfect sandwich.
i’ve been picking up from saiguette weekly for about a year now. i have their contact saved in my phone. when i get married i want saiguette to cater my wedding. saiguette must exist for at least as long as im alive. you can’t go wrong, everything on the menu is great. but the banh mi has to be the best in new york. i love saiguette <3
Ordered the grilled chicken thigh sandwich, beef summer rolls, & taro milk tea. Grilled chicken thigh was juicy & flavorful, highly recommend. (We ordered the pork bbq as well, it was sweet and packed with flavors) It was huge & good bread to veggies-meat ratio. The summer rolls would be better with shrimp instead of beef because the beef was cold but the rolls were still refreshing & hug. It comes out as 2 long rolls instead of the small 4 pieces one. The taro milk tea was mid. Hopefully they have a dine in option because their food is really good, they’re not stingy with their ingredients. Highly recommend. They only take food to go, either come with a car or eat at the park nearby.
Seemed to be take-out only. Saiguette offers Laska in their menu. I had not seen many Asian restaurants offered Laska, so I was excited to try this place. I ordered shrimp Laska, lemongrass pork sandwich, and beef pho. Those were classics that I like. The beef pho was as good as I expected. The pork sandwich was great, next time I would like no jalapeños. The noodle in the shrimp Laska was not what I expected, but at least I got to try Laska. Happy!
Best banh mi I’ve had in NYC by far. The lemongrass pork is the thing to get here. I just finished my sandwich and I already want another one. Interesting that they use pickled jalapeño instead of fresh. My friend fed some of his bread to a duck and he said that the sriracha mayo was still on it and that the duck found it spicy which is why it went to the water after not for any other reason. All these are photos of the same sandwich. I just really liked it.
Saiguette is one of those hidden gems in NYC that consistently delivers when it comes to Vietnamese comfort food, especially for takeout. I’ve tried a good amount of Vietnamese spots in the city, and while Saiguette doesn’t offer a dine in experience (it’s strictly takeout), they make up for it with flavor, portion size, and speed. The banh mi here is definitely the standout. Unlike some places that skimp on the fillings, Saiguette really loads it up. The bread is fresh with the perfect balance of crunch on the outside and softness inside, and the fillings are generous you don’t feel like you’re paying just for bread. I also appreciated that the balance of meat, pickled vegetables, and fresh herbs is done right, giving it that satisfying bite every time. Portion wise, it’s more than fair for the price, especially considering NYC standards where you often pay more for less. Pho and other noodle dishes also come packed with flavor. The broth is rich, and the portions again don’t leave you hungry. For a takeout-only spot, the packaging is practical and sturdy it travels well, and you can enjoy it at home without everything spilling or getting soggy. The one downside for me was more about the ownership and authenticity. When I asked if the restaurant was Vietnamese owned, one of the workers told me yes. Later on, I found out that the owner is not Vietnamese, which was a bit disappointing, especially after I tried speaking Vietnamese to him and realized it wasn’t the case. It doesn’t take away from the taste of the food, but as someone who values authenticity and cultural roots, it felt misleading. Overall, though, Saiguette is worth trying if you’re in NYC and craving Vietnamese food. The quality, portion size, and fair pricing make it a solid choice, especially for banh mi lovers. While I wish the ownership had been upfront about the background, I can’t deny that the food itself is good and consistent.
I have been ordering from Saigette and getting it delivered to 151 W 100 St since 2013 and always got the steak entrée which includes rice and salad. Today, I decided to go inside and get my usual entrée which ballooned to $21 from 12. Upon receiving the take-out, I realized that everything was packaged separately. Before, the container had separate compartment for the salad and rice. When I finally got to the steak, my heart dropped. This time the steak was thinly sliced, 4 strips of beef that was 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. This steak was tough chewy and had no flavor. The price went up and the quality is non-existent. I will not be returning to my favorite spot anymore. Did this go through an ownership change? If yes, please like.
