This morning, our power went out. Because we were hungry we decided to head towards Norma’s interview with Norma. We saw the lights on which her hearts flicker of hope, lol when we walked to the restaurant,Fatemeh greeted us with bright shining eyes and a glimmering smile and a happy good morning. We sat down and she brought us 2 cups of nice hot coffee, and French vanilla creamer are you serious? Breakfast was delightful. And she kept a fine watch over. We never ended up with a half full cup of coffee or water. She continued to take care of us. Fatemeh has continued to be cheerful through our breakfast. Fatemeh made our day. Thank you Fatima thank you thank you thank you. We look forward to seeing you again soon because you make our visits to Norma’s so special.

My wife and I just visited for breakfast today and we will definitely come back again! The food is great and the service was just wonderful. Our server Fatima made us feel welcome and her attitude and service were top notch. We will be back for more breakfast and good service!!!

We had heard that Norma's was good, but we have never been before. The service at this restaurant was amazing! We were worried that it would take forever like most diners. The waitress was very attentive and most of the tables were full, so she was busy. The food portions were large and the prices were reasonable. Very impressed with the service and will definitely go back.

I had the fried catfish, okra, and THE BEST onion rings I have had in a very long time!! If you go, you HAVE TO HAVE the onion rings!!! If you don't get the o rings ypu will be missing out!!! The batter was fried to perfection!! The cornmeal fish light and fluffy and really tasty and piping hot. I told my wife " why don't we come here more often??"

I'm not a fan of eggs, so I typically go the dinner route when I get my Chicken Fried Steak... It comes with 3 veggies, so I got double fries and Mac and Cheese. Mac and cheese was a bit soupy and had little flavor, but it was still fine to dip fries in and eat. The fries, while looking like typical frozen fries, are crunchy with a light batter and seasoned well with seasoned salt. The Chicken Fried Steak was portioned well and the breading is (my preferred) flour-based with the perfect amount of salt and pepper already seasoning it. I subbed my rolls for white toast to complete my perfect diner meal and just love when they paint on margarine (even though I'm a butter guy, diners just do toast right) so I can swipe up all the leftover bits on the plate. On the other side of the table we got ham, eggs, and a biscuit with gravy. Eggs were fluffy and the biscuits are drop style and quite large. Gravy and everything was seasoned well. Was hoping for a ham steak but the serving of ham was plenty. Portions are huge! Price is reasonable... Too full for pie after we finished... our server was PERFECT! Super attentive and even offered me a to go cup for my Diet Dr. Pepper. Will be back for sure!!! Thanks for an awesome breakfast Norma's!

Amazing! The service was SO fast. I ordered the chicken fried steak with macaroni, green beans and corn and it was to me in less than 10 minutes looking absolutely flawless. The server i had was so sweet and amazing but i didn't catch her name. Guys!! You have to give this place a try you will not regret it.

Best breakfast spot around! Loved their breakfast, especially the grits. Great prices and menu, it gets packed with people and you might have to wait a bit to get seated but just get there early to beat the rush. It’s worth the wait though so even if you don’t get seated right away, just wait around you won’t regret it.

Took my mom to enjoy breakfast for dinner one night at the Plano location and our server was Shay. The food was delicious, and the service was fantastic. Shay was patient and very kind. She smiled the entire time and this helped with enjoying the experience and atmosphere. Thank you!

Life is short...eat dessert first. Weeeeell, if you insist! I ordered a bowl of blackberry cobler ala mode and it was deeeeliscious. For my entré I decided on the summer salad which is a mix of friuts and veggies and raspberry vinaigrette topped with grilled chicken which was the perfect complement to the cobbler.

Very large portions! I see why they say "life is short, eat dessert first! We split the CBGB, the picture posted is a half serving. Our server was great, she was very friendly and attentive.

My wife and I love trying new restaurants. Especially really good diners. We both have loved diners and their food since we were kids. If you want really good food, good customer service, and an all around great experience, look no further than a good diner. Now let me be honest, as with everywhere else, there are bad diners. My wife and I were going to be in an area that we didn’t frequent much. So we searched the area to see if there any diners in the area. We found Norma’s. We were able to find the menu online and not only did it look good, it instantly made us hungrier than we already were. So we made the trek over to Norma’s. As with most diners, we were greeted by a smiling face asking if it was just the two of us and took us to our table. It was early so there wasn’t much of a crowd. Boy did that quickly change. Not long after sat down, the customers came in droves. While we were waiting on our server we were just taking in all the ambiance on the walls. Looking at the menu, everything looked just absolutely amazing. Though I love all facets of diner food, something caught my eye. It was called the Ol’ Number 7. It consisted of one biscuit, 3 scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns smothered in sausage gravy then topped with melted cheddar cheese, jalapeños, tomatoes and another biscuit. Oh, to top it off, it was served on a pie plate. All for $9.99. My wife just got the short stack with bacon as she was going to take a couple bites of mine. Believe me there was plenty of food. Bottom line: Great food, great customer service, and awesome prices. What more could you ask for? In my eyes, nothing. I can’t recommend this place more. And we can’t wait for our next visit.

OMG! This Norma’s Cafe has the best food ever! Not only are the portions big, but the flavor and quality of the food is amazing. We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast and it tasted like it was homemade in my kitchen. I highly recommend it! I have to add that Julian always goes above and beyond to insure everything is perfect! If you haven’t tried this Norma’s takeout, you’re missing out. Give them a try. You won’t regret it.

Service was excellent. Great ambiance. Classic diner feel. Very generous portions. Reasonably priced $$. We didn't buy dessert, but the pies, cheesecake, and cobblers looked amazing. Pictured is the menu item, The CBGB.

Amazing cafe it is. The server was very nice from the start . They serve free coffee, the breakfast was very tasty and healthy , atmosphere of the place is very good. They have positive vibe and energy around. Even they offer us free coffee for take out to. The prices are very genuine, not expensive. Must visit this place if you live near by or even if you are traveling near by.

Had breakfast at Norma's Cafe (15th in Plano, just west of Central) today, definitely an old school vibe. The food - Fluffiest scrambled eggs ever, home made biscuit, loads of thick center cut bacon, community coffee(!!) and good hash browns that needed 30 more seconds in the skillet (still good). Price about a buck or three lower than others in the area. A strong recommendation for this place as a breakfast destination in Collin County. Allegedly great pies but, too early in the day for me.

It’s a local favorite for a reason. When you want a greasy spoon, Norma’s is hard to top. Good food, good coffee, fast and friendly service. What else could you ask for?

This is a nice place to come and eat. They have all American staples and the service is amazing, our waitress Jennie was so pleasant and attentive! Everyone working there was so nice. The food came out promptly and hot. The hasbrowns were crunchy and the migas was spicy and delicious. The decor gives a cute quaint vibe. I also noticed how clean everything was. This place is great!

I was craving breakfast for dinner and came across this place, and im so glad I did. They start you off with hot rolls and cornbread (both warm, fresh and delicious) I ordered chilaquiles, and meatloaf. The chilaquiles were ok, but the meatloaf was great! The sides were also very good. I was too full for dessert so I’ll have to back soon:)

I was a little weary due to all the hype but I gotta, I was not disappointed! I can only attest to breakfast, but I now go here every other Sunday morning when they first open and I always love it. The staff has clearly been with this place awhile and they obviously enjoy working here which makes everyone’s experience better. The staff is always friendly and welcoming and goes above and beyond on the regular for me and my friends. I always have the Migas which are fantastic. Oddly enough the stars of this meal are the refried beans and clearly homemade flour tortillas. The coffee is good and always fresh. My cup has never reached the bottom! I appreciate the staff here and will continue to return time and time again.

Ordered the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, sweet corn and macaroni cheese. The food was delicious, service was fast, our waitress was super friendly, restaurant was clean and the restroom. I Would highly recommend for anyone seeking an authentic American diner place to visit in dine in at this place. Everything is great from the coffee to the hash Browns. The wair time was very minimal. The chicken fried steak was really good and tender. The biscuit was warm, fluffy and not dry or stale.

I came here from a recommendation, and I was happy with everything. As someone who loves diners and Texas kitsch, Norma's won me over with atmosphere before I had the food. And then I ate. Wow. As diner breakfasts go, this place is solid. That chicken fried steak was tender and flavorful. And because that pie case calls to anyone walking in, I got a slice of pie to go.

We're from out of town and we came across this spot via Google reviews and we were not disappointed. The service by John, out server, was GREAT and the food was tasty. I had the country fried chicken and it came with eggs, toast and hash browns. My husband had the #7 and he was pleasantly surprised by the recommendation from John. The kids ordered off the kids menus and they enjoyed their food as well. The portions were big, so had quite a bit left over but we got to-go containers and had them poolside at the hotel. We had such a good experience that we'll definitely be coming back the next time we're in Dallas.

Food was exactly what you would want and should expect from a cafe. Portions were generous and entrees not over cooked or excessively salted! Flavor of everything was spot on delicious. Chicken fried steak: Perfectly breaded and not overcooked. Tender with perfect breading. Gravy was spot on perfection. Dinner salad, chicken noodle soup and home style mashed potatoes (like mamma used to make) Corn bread hot and fresh. Not too sweet but large and tasty. (Sometimes I like a dense cornbread but these were wonderful). Fresh hot rolls, wow! The best. Beef tips & gravy: Beef tips perfectly seasoned and not too much salt (most places hide lower quality by overcooking and over salting). These were soft, tender and done exactly the way you would want. Caramelized onions in the noodle base. Noodles not over cooked (big points) held up well to the meal. This was an awesome dish. Hot fresh brewed Community Coffee: It was so good. No cream or sweetener. Really good coffee can stand on its own. Only regret: Too full to partake in the most beautiful pies I’ve seen in a long time. Will have to do a reverse meal here next time. Service: Polite, courteous, unobtrusive but very attentive. **** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ****

PIE, CAKE & HOME COOKING Desserts lovers may want to know about the choices. Norma's makes really tasty pies and sometimes has cake. They typically sell out, so it's a good idea to call ahead, to see if your favorite is still available. When we arrived for an early dinner, the dessert case was almost empty. It was re-stocked with these beauties. And yes, Carrot Cake is on the bottom shelf.

What a surprise today October 26 2023! The owner supports Susan G Komen Foundation. Lunch for $1.85 Chicken Fried Steak and a choice of two sides from limited 4 options Rolls and Cornbread included. Drinks and desserts are extra. I’ve eaten at Norma’s for decades and love their operation. Took my brother and sister in law who were here visiting. Love the nostalgia of the diner. Reminds me of when i used to travel with my dad in his truck over the summer hauling oversize for the oil field, Stopping at all the diners in other states. There breakfast is great and served all day. And the chocolate pie hits just right!! Highly recommend!!

Lots of options - sandwiches, eggs etc. - for all-day breakfast or brunch style dining. Table next to us ordered fried okra as a side that looked reeeaally good. Next time… And the pies are really good. We had the Blueberry there and took a Chocolate Meringue for later 😀

I haven't been to Norma's in a long time, but we had breakfast here and really enjoyed it. The service was prompt, efficient and friendly. I had the standard two eggs over easy, bacon, hash browns, and wheat toast for less than $10. I know it's not polite, but I love to mix them up before I eat them. My wife had her eggs scrambled, grits, ham, and a biscuit. Of course we had coffee. We don't often eat breakfast out, but this was the best.

Came for breakfast and left feeling 20lbs heavier due to how full I was. The serving size is large and the pricing is reasonable for the amount given. Food was delicious and definitely filling. Norma's is always good! The one thing you have to watch is that you don't fill up on rolls and cornbread before the food gets there. I enjoyed my time here, the decor is charming and the waitress was nice. She was training a new employee so was a little slow with the check, but otherwise attentive to the table and food was served in a timely manner. My favorite decoration is the hot air balloon corner, it's cute that the restaurant is themed to the city of Plano.

Wonderfully authentic and a good value. First time to a Norma's Got their chicken fried steak with 3 veggies and the black berry cobbler for desert. The food was all done well. Service was excellent. I would give them a 5 for food except I expected a bigger chicken fried steak and a bit more gravy on it given how they promote it. Not quite the quality of the now gone Black Eyed Pea restaurant chain that had perfected chicken fried steak, but it is on a par with the delightful mom & pop places that were scattered around North Texas 30 years ago. I will go again to try some of the other country style meals and update my review after a few more samples.

We did ToGo pick up. Quick, easy, and direct. You place your order, they give you a time you go in and pick it up, no waiting in line, or anything. The food was solid for a diner-style breakfast. I deducted one star for marrying syrup. The label on the bottle of syrup on my table was pathetically ragged yet the bottle was completely full suggesting they refill/marry the syrups as they get low. Condiment consolidation might save the restaurant money, but it disgusts me because I worked in a restaurant and there is no way to track how old the old lest contributing syrup is and also just the things people do to condiments (e.g. kids licking tops, people licking fingers then handling dispensing area) is so gross that they should be emptied and discarded rather than joined together.

S
Shutterbug

Some of the dishes were pricey for what it is or for what you get. The cinnamon rolls are big enough to share between 4 people and it doesn't come out warm, so fyi. Their coffee is medium bodied and is ok. Maybe this is ok for most. I prefer mine darker with more body to it. The service is fine. No one is outwardly happy or friendly. Just cordial enough. We were there for a slightly late brunch on a Sunday. It moves fairly quickly enough. It's nice if hey end up giving you a table in their "private events room" when they don't have it reserved. It's quieter in there so it's cozy with your table.

Came here for brunch the other day. Really enjoy the food. My wife got the breakfast tacos and I got the CBGB. Both were really good!!! The only small thing I will mention is they do not come by to check on drinks. Have a noisy toddler that ran out and took a while to get a refill for everyone which is harder to convey to a kiddo. Other than that really great place to grab brunch and the decorations are on point.

It included: - 2 kids meals (corn dogs with Mac & cheese, and a cheeseburger with Mac and cheese) - mushroom Swiss burger with mashed potatoes and cream gravy. - slice of chocolate pie - slice of chocolate cake The Swiss burger was cooked well done, no blood, no pink. They did not ask how I wanted it cooked, so I assume that's not something they do there. The mushrooms were flavorful and the cheese went well with them. The mashed potatoes were pretty good. They kind of reminded me of Grandy's, back when I was a kid. Kind of nostalgic. My kids seem to like their food too, especially their mac and cheese. It was extra creamy and kind of more liquidy, which I appreciate. We are not a fan of dry mac and cheese. The only downside I would say is the rolls are pretty tough to eat. The tops of them were dry and crunchy, so the only good part was the inside that we had to rip out. And the chocolate cake was kind of odd tasting it reminded me of some sort of faint barbecue flavor mixed with chocolate. My kids seem to like it but they love anything sweet. I wasn't a fan. Our waitress was really nice and attentive.. she came to the table about four times. I wish I could remember her name, but she is the younger brunette with the glasses. The atmosphere is nice and reminds me of a diner. The walls and shelves are covered in Old memorabilia. My son was really excited to see the Kool-Aid Man picture on top of one of the mantles. He was smiling and asking the waitress about everything he pointed at. And she was nice enough to respond. Overall this is a nice sit down diner anytime of the week. There were only a handful of people inside today at around 6pm (Monday) the menu is quite large and I appreciate all of the different options.

This is a great spot for some classic southern comfort food. The menu isn’t too large so you know the things they do have are pretty good. The rolls are so wonderfully pillowy and buttery while the cornbread was tender and sweet. We started with some onion rings that were super crispy and served with a nice and tangy buttermilk ranch. I loved the pot roast because it was so soft and the gravy was absolutely luscious. The chicken and dressing was also tasty although the dressing was almost too sweet. The pinto beans, corn, and mashed potato’s were all fairly average but still tasty. I was disappointed with the collard greens and mac and cheese, so skip those. The fried okra isn’t available 100% of the time, but if it is, be sure to snag some.

We went on 8/19 for dinner. It was my first time there, but everyone else had been there several times. I had the Chicken Fried Steak with carrots, corn and beans, see pics. Practically every bite of everything was great. I thought the chicken fried steak would be larger, but the flavor, texture were great. The veggies were done just right. Not too soft, not too hard and buttery. I liked that most of the carrot pieces were larger than other restaurants typically serve. Everyone else said their dinner was really good. Ed was our waiter and he was great. Fast friendly service. We will definitely be coming back.

I love going to Norma’s but the customer service at the door was horrible today! Didn’t get acknowledged for about 19 minutes and no one was in front of me of us. The lady I believe could have been the manager needs to learn to smile and how to treat people Our servicer was awesome it was her first day today with only training for 2 shifts! She smiles all the time and she did wonderful job!

It was ok. The food was room temperature when we received it. The food looked good. The salad you get as a side is lettuce and croutons only. The waitress forgot our drinks. It was ok. Not bad. Not good. I really don't thinkni will go back. To many other choices.

I read an article in the Dallas Observer about the 12 best Chicken Fried Steaks in Dallas so I'm on a quest to try them all. (Disclaimer) I'm from West Texas where we take CFS VERY seriously! First on my culinary journey was Norma's. Let's start with the good. The mashed potatoes and fried okra were excellent. I think the potatoes were Yukon Gold, rather than russets. Really creamy texture. The okra was fresh and fried to a perfect golden brown. Now, down to business. The steak batter was light and crispy. Nicely cooked but without much seasoning. The cream gravy was pretty good. No lumps but again, not much flavor. The steak itself was a huge disappointment. No seasoning at all. 😯 It's as though, they just battered store bought cube steak and fried it up. The meat requires seasoning, attention to flavor. This had none, as you can see in the picture. If this is one of the 12 best in Dallas, then either Dallas or the food reviewer at the Observer doesn't know a thing about Chicken Fried Steaks. Sorry Norma. I know you tried. My quest continues...

Norma’s, what has happened to you guys. I’ve eaten at Norma’s for 50 years, and tonight we were very surprised. We ordered it to go. We got the used to be delicious chicken fried steak with three vegetables and cornbread. The chicken fried steak, you had to go into it 3/4 of an inch before you got to the meat. The cornbread tasted as if it were two or three days old and was very hard even after we microwaved it. Also I’m very disappointed to have to leave y’all review like this.

N

The eggs were undercooked, sausage overcooked, and toast hard as ever. Service was OK. Waitress was nice but we only saw her twice, once to order and then for the bill. Atmosphere is whatever, its a diner.

We usually have breakfast here but we decided to try dinner. We came on a Thursday at 430 ish and we were very disappointed. I got a veggie plate for 12.99 and it was such a rip off and the food was cold. My daughter got a bacon cheeseburger and the bacon was so hard she couldn’t even eat it. The bread and cornbread were rock hard. Only thing that was ok was my husband and sons pancakes.. We will never return for dinner. I wish I could get my money back.

Nothing good here, eggs not fresh cracked, hashbrowns pile of sogg, bacon not sure when cooked? Biscuits? Rolls I guess they were, gravy fresh from a packet with zero flavor. Waste of time and money!

Ate New Year's Day lunch there and had the worst chicken fried steak I have ever had. Lots of breading and very little meat that day and stale. Had black-eyed peas but they were saturated in some strange juice so they were just weird. At least the mashed potatoes were good.

Came here because of the good reviews but left disappointed. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. Wow. This was sad. From the stale low quality bun it came on to the dry thin grilled chicken… this sandwich was bland and just not good. The piece of chicken on the sandwich was so thin it barely even counted as more than lunch meat and was tough like a piece of leather. Cheap shredded iceberg lettuce on top. The fries the sandwich came with are basic frozen fries. My mom ordered the chopped salad. Also, terrible. Mainly consisted of low quality iceberg lettuce. It had one tiny piece of boiled egg in it. Cold dry breaded chicken that could have been made weeks ago for all we could tell as far as the taste. This was labeled a chopped salad it’s not meant to have huge pieces of lettuce, spinach leafs, huge chunks of chicken, etc. it’s meant to have everything finely chopped into bite sized uniform pieces. Hence the name “chopped salad”. The waiter we had seemed a little scatter brained but was trying her best. The atmosphere is classic diner which is cool. But we will not be going back to Norma’s after this experience. It was very below average food.

We used to go here a bunch, very home style diner vibe, then they seemed to fire all the competent folks, now we were ignored after our order was placed, asked 3 times for sauces for the meal and was told ok, Everytime she went to sit another table, and when we did get our dressings, she just plopped them down and walked away, no kindness, simply bothered. Coffee and drink was empty, we asked for a refill, was given a ok, and then she went back to other table to ask for their order. We had to grab our own to-go boxes. I've gotten better service at IHOP. It's a shame, this place used to be spectacular

The place was clean but my food was ice cold . The manager came and retrieved my order and redid my meal . And she act like she had an attitude. On my way out she only gave me half of my money back for my meal being cold. And the place was not crowded. So, how do you get cold food???

This was my first time at this Norma's location and it will be my last! The food here was horrible and the chicken fried chicken was the smallest I ever seen, not eNORMAus like they advertised on their menu. See picture. Also, the salad they served me was not edible as there were so many soggy and died lettuces in there. It was so hard to eat since the taste of the lettuce was so bad. I just had one bite and couldn't eat anymore. This location is such a bad representation of Norma's. To make matters worse, our server handed us the bill WHILE we were still eating and not even halfway done. I felt really rushed and didn't enjoy my meal.

I want to start by saying i LOVE Norma's restaurant at least the Dallas location. This review is Plano, and yes, I spoke with a manager. Nothing was changed except we got our drinks in to-go cups. The drinking glasses we were served had LAYERS of nasty film inside the rims that I could scrape off with my finger without effort. Pic posted here. DISGUSTING. The chicken and dressing came out with very finely minced chicken. TERRIBLE. One cup of coffee was all I got the whole time I was there, although I asked two different waiters for a refill. I was told they were too busy. The cornbread muffins were ice cold, hard, and full of old grease. I asked for extra gravy for my chicken fried chicken, which I didn't get. I asked for lemon for my water twice that I didn't get. I ordered a biscuit but got cold white toast. I asked for home fries, he said yes, we have them. I got French fries, which were the best thing we got, btw, even though they weren't what I ordered. I will NEVER come back to this establishment. The upside was the chicken fried chicken was good, along with the fries. That's the one star. Sorry, but it was horrible, especially for a Norma's.

I ordered this chicken fried chicken. It did not taste good at all . The part that is supposed to be golden and crispy was not . It was a white yellow color. No flavor! The potato’s were not mashed and no flavor! I will not go back!

Server as not attentive and the food was so bad that it was hard to even eat it. We had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, turnip greens and green beans. My husband liked the turnip greens but the green beans were sour and the chicken fried steak had absolutely no flavor and was so tough. It was difficult to cut and chewing was like gnawing on old leather. Save your money and try somewhere else.

I love how this restaurant is decorated. But the food was not good. I had chicken and dumplings. There was hardly any chicken in it and the dumplings were big clods of dough. It tasted like a dough ball. Little chicken flavor. The sauce had dried away a long time before I saw it. Chicken and dumplings are served as a "special" on Wednesday and Saturday. I was so disappointed. The macaroni and cheese had very little cheese flavor, and even the okra had little flavor. The cornbread seemed dry, or undercooked. I could not tell. It was not like normal cornbread. I suspect they have big vats of food sitting in the kitchen and it sits there for hours, while any flavor it had just goes away. The picture of the dumplings was on a plate at my house, after I brought home leftovers. I did not want to offend the person who took me there for lunch. The staff seemed pretty unhappy to be there.

Tammy Richardson

The service was subpar. The server took our ordered, delivered the drinks and food and then mostly ignored us the rest of the time until she wanted to be paid. The hostess checked on our drinks, returned my disgusting Chicken and Dumplings to the kitchen and ordered me a replacement meal. The waitress delivered the replacement meal. She never ask about refills, quality, needs, or anything else. The rolls and cornbread were bitter. They tasted of spoiled milk. We notified the server. Her response was to let us know there is a bad batch and another that is some better. The bag salad was brown and gross. She really didn't care nor could she be bothered. This is my final visit to Norma's. Do better! $30 plus for two people deserves better quality and polite service.

I went there when it first opened, years ago, & I was not impressed, so I haven't been back. A dear friend wanted to meet there for dinner this evening, so I thought, "Maybe it will be better than I remember. On the contrary: All I ordered was fried mushrooms. I wasn't very hungry, and I was just in the mood. The menu described the typical fried mushrooms you expect--lightly battered, juicy, etc. These were the worst I've ever gotten anywhere. Did they use old, dehydrated mushrooms from the back of the fridge? Dry as a bone. And the batter looked and tasted like a lumpy mix of flour and water, not even fried to golden, but still pale like flour. Just gross. I didn't even eat half. TRULY pitiful for over $9. I don't see a reason to ever ho back and try it again.
