This place gave us so much joy! The mole enchiladas were delicious, and the salsa was amazing and spiced perfectly. The staff made us feel so welcome, and the atmosphere was unique and warm. Would definitely recommend for a guaranteed filling and hearty meal with excellent flavors.
Made a reservation for a Thursday night dinner here and it did not disappoint! We got margaritas to start, which came with fresh house made chips and salsa + mole. For the entrees, my husband got the carnitas and I got the Tampaquiena. Both were delicious and the flavors were authentic, especially the mole. Our server was friendly and everything came out promptly. The ambience was warm and romantic for a date night, and I can see the outdoor patio being lovely on a sunny day. Highly recommend this spot next time you’re craving some Tex mex!
Great date night place! Love the atmosphere, the service, food and ambiance!
We had an amazing experience at Zócalo! We came as a large group of 12 people, celebrating family milestones—my son’s 13th birthday and my niece’s 18th—and everything was absolutely perfect. From the moment we arrived, Angel, our server, made our reservation feel truly special. His attention to detail and genuine customer service stood out right away and stayed consistent the entire time. My mother and my mother-in-law were especially happy, enjoying their margaritas with big smiles (which says a lot 😉). The food was delicious, beautifully served, and enjoyed by everyone at the table. Angel’s professionalism, warmth, and care turned a family gathering into a memorable celebration. Thank you for making our night so special—we’ll definitely be back! Warmly, Elizabeth Castro
Zócalo is an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. We accidentally stumbled upon this restaurant for brunch, and so glad we did!! The food is outstanding- fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. Brunch was especially impressive, with beautifully prepared dishes that felt both thoughtful and indulgent. The drinks were just as memorable, well-crafted and perfectly balanced. Add to that a warm, inviting atmosphere and truly attentive service, and it’s easy to see why this place stands out. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling rushed or intrusive. Zócalo strikes the perfect balance of great food, excellent drinks, and a relaxed yet polished vibe. Highly recommend for brunch, cocktails, or any occasion where you want consistently great service and fresh, delicious food.
We love Brandon! At the very end of our meal we just happened to mention that we were in town from Los Angeles for an overdue 1st Honeymoon and of course he was too kind and had a superbly delicious flan for dessert sent to our table. The young hostess at the desk was very friendly and sat us at our table much sooner than expected. The excellence of food is always important, but the service and warm and welcoming atmosphere in this fine establishment is so rare to find anymore these days. A fan for life. 🙏
Amazing food. Amazing service. I went with my mother. The chips for appetizers were nice and hot, a sign they were just made, and the black beans and salsa it came with were great. I ordered the garlic shrimp tacos, and my mom ordered the pozole soup. The tacos were delicious and the pozole was too. For desert we had the flan, which was amazingly sweet and nice to eat, and the churros, which were honestly a disappointment. The churros came with ice cream, so I assume they weren't so heated as to melt it, but it's something I usually like to eat hot. The place is also surprisingly cheap too. We'll worth the price
Outstanding Experience! From the moment we walked in, the customer service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. The food was absolutely amazing, fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Every dish exceeded expectations and was clearly made with care and quality ingredients. The environment was great—clean, comfortable, and with a warm atmosphere that made the experience even more enjoyable. Lastly, the management was awesome. They were present, professional, and clearly committed to delivering top-notch service and ensuring guests had a great experience. Highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely be coming back!
Amazing food and amazing ambiance on top of AMAZING staff! Talisa went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful time at Zocalo. It was one of our party member’s birthday, and she celebrated her beautifully. I will definitely be coming back here, and we need more Talisas in the world! Make sure you try the cochinita pibil, it’s to die for.
The food was chef's kiss. I ordered the burrito norteño wet and my husband ordered the enchiladas mole, and for dessert we had to try the churros. The service was fantastic. The restaurant itself was beautiful. Oh, and don't sleep on the blackberry margarita - it is soooo good! We will definitely be back!
As a Latino couple, we usually avoid restaurants that serve generic Tex-Mex food — but Zócalo truly surprised us! The flavors were authentic and well-balanced, definitely passing our taste test. We were seated right away, and the service throughout the evening was friendly and attentive. The steaks were juicy, tender, and full of flavor, and even the beans stood out — rich and well-seasoned. Overall, a great dining experience that exceeded our expectations. We’ll definitely be back!
Excellent dining experience. From the hostess to the waiting staff, the service was outstanding. I got same day reservations. My party was seated immediately at 5:30 PM on a Thursday despite the place being rather busy. The chips and salsa/bean dip were regularly refilled, as were our blackberry margaritas. I loved that it came in a pitcher. The guacamole was the best, as were the specialty dinners.
Atmosphere is Cheesecake Factory adjacent, up to the lighting. Bathrooms were below fair. Service was excellent! Very-very helpful with splitting the bills to our tables circumstances. Spice dishes were lacking the very ‘Latino heat’ I believed this restaurant may have championed. Delicious cocktails.
We got there a little early, thankfully, and sat outside. The weather was perfect for outdoors and we were the first ones to get seated outside, but the place was packed full within the next 30 minutes. Lovely urban vibes, comfortable seating, nice server (and even nicer forget what you call them, the guys who bring you to the table). Steak Steak is hanger steak. Portobello mushroom topped with onions and stuff under held of the steak. This is a big portion - enough to share. Subbed rice and beans with side salad. They don’t have traditional dressings, but different vinaigrettes. I ended up just getting some olive oil for the salad and it was good, with all the blue cheese that came with the salad. It was a beautiful salad, as far as side salads go. The rice and beans were delicious too, but i was very happy with the salad. I wasn’t charged extra for the substitution. Fish tacos Great! Overall, you are paying for the decor and the service, and the enjoyable food. For the atmosphere, I wasn’t too happy with our server asking about 5 times whether we wanted guacamole with our chips. I didn’t like it the first time he asked, but didn’t mind. It’s like a server asking if we want a margarita before we’ve looked at the menu (not saying that the server did this). But then he asked 4 more times. We ended up getting some ($12) but it was just ok. I don’t like being pushed like this, especially in this kind of atmosphere. Is the food worth the money? No, but with the combination of the atmosphere, sure. Would I come back? Sure, with the right people and for the right occasion. But this isn’t my weekly date night.
The food is good, but not a lot of options. A half page of tacos, another half page of enchiladas and some ceviches and you're through most of the menu... two best things we got were the fish tacos and chile relleno. More of a clean bar/restaurant with good energy than a restaurant- similar to Mas Taco.
Upon a semi chill Sacramento night, Zócalo proved a place of curious contradictions. Though it professes itself a Mexican restaurant, its décor seems to have wandered through the bazaars of Marrakech before settling here, all ornate lanterns looked most uncertain of their continental loyalties. I half expected a belly dancer to emerge between the tacos. A drink, proudly bearing the Michelin Recommendation, which I took to mean divine sanction caught my attention. Alas, my expectations were betrayed. Whatever celestial palate had approved it must have done so during a moment of distraction, for I found it rather uninspired. The food, however, redeemed the affair which was nothing short of edible poetry, a lively dance upon the tongue, though the portion, I must confess, seemed designed for a man of smaller ambitions. At least the ones we ordered. Parking was an adventure of labyrinthine confusion, not unlike trying to find moral clarity in a Shakespearean subplot. And, dear heavens, I must report with dismay upon the men’s lavatory! Urinals without dividers! One is left to conduct one’s business shoulder to shoulder, as though comrades in a trench. Surely, civilization has advanced far enough to afford a modest partition between gentlemen. Alas, I have but few pictures to commemorate the evening, a most grievous oversight on my part. The dim light, perhaps, conspired with the fine ceviche to distract me. Thus, I am left with mere memory and regret and that might be the most fitting souvenir of all. Am borrowing the first one.
It was such a beautiful restaurant with a lot of seating. The service was great, as staff kept coming by and asking if we needed anything or wanted to order more food. Every was plated nicely. Fish tacos were pretty good. Even though I enjoyed the mole enchiladas, I thought they would be the highlight of the meal, but it was my blackberry margarita that won out.
3.5 stars. I know they have a lot of good reviews and even some dishes mentioned on the Michelin Guide, but we just weren't impressed that much. My husband has seen a waiting line going out to the door at times, so we were excited about the menu. We came here on a Sun evening and got seated immediately. We didn't get any drinks so I can't comment on their cocktails. For food, we ordered the Zocalo quesadilla with chicken and the Michelin Guide recommended En Mole enchiladas with 2 enchiladas. We got complimentary chips with salsa and beans for the table. The chips and salsa were ok. Salsa was not too spicy. The Zocalo quesadilla was anything but simple. It was more of a burrito - cheese, beans and chicken stuffed into a tortilla, which was then smothered in a delicious tasting cilantro based sauce. The whole thing was delicious but heavy. The sauce was everything on that plate. The accompanying rice and beans were just ok. The rice was a little dry. The en mole enchiladas was also pretty big. The mole was very sweet, which I didn't like. The enchiladas was fine but the sweet mole put me off. My husband liked it more than me so he ended up eating most of that plate and we took the quesadilla home. Pricing wise, the restaurant is medium. There are some really pricey restaurants in the area, but these guys are more reasonable. Ambiance is bright, spacious and lavishly elegant. If you plan to drive, you will need to spend some time looking for parking. There is only metered street parking in the area.
