Thick cuts of pork, hearty ramen + broth... Very good, very filling! Staff were polite and helpful. Gotta visit again to try their other stuff.
My girlfriend and I were excited to check this place out when we found out about it. The layout was really cool and the ramen was great. Can't wait to go back and check out more of the menu.
The best I have ever had. If you like Ramen don't miss coming here. This is our first meal hear and will not be our last.
Loved the ramen. Definatly a great spot
Great ramen and delicious chicken katsu! The service was great and they were super friendly. I wasn't aware that my katsu took a long time but they offered free gyoza nonetheless, very attentive!
Takeout - the food was delicious and plentiful
The best ramen house I've ever been to. Couldn't recommend enough. The entire meal no matter which is perfect and the hot house sake is perfection
Come for the ramen stay for the HI-CHEW!! Very happy and gracious staff. Happy to have found my new go-to spot so close to home!!
Uchiwa makes the best broth for their tonkatsu. I like to add kimchi to the bowl and their fire spice on the side. I disagree with the reviews that say the broth is bland. It is the richest that I have found. The only place that even compares is in Japan town in SF. The food is superior and you couldn't ask for more personal experience. It's like going home home for comfort food! I love Uchiwa!
Love all their vegan dishes.
Delicious ramen! Had the Tonkotsu ramen without mushrooms and with extra pork belly. Super tender pork belly and rich broth. Loved it! Make reservations via Open Table if you can--there was a waitlist when we arrived at 6:30pm. Wonderfully nice and pleasant waitress too! Also happy they accommodated our request for a specific table. Mango mochi for dessert was good too! Only criticism at all is that there was a noticeable amount of fruit flies buzzing around... Otherwise it was a great experience!
Uchiwa Ramen is an excellent ran restaurant! The Staff and Chefs are incredibly nice and welcoming! The food is tremendous packed with lots of flavor without being over powering! I highly recommend this place! When I visit again I will be back!
If you are a fan of ramen this is the place to go. I've been here many times. It's my go to place when I'm in the area. All the ramen choices are excellent and while you're here, you need to order an appetizer to go with it. Take your pick because you won't be disappointed in anything that you choose here.
Great atmosphere, Great Ramen, Great service. Only complaint would be the cost. A bit pricey for what you get. Everything else was great. No complaints. Definitely 5 star for taste and service.
Ordered my food through DoorDash from this restaurant last week (sorry for the late review), and the food was great! Really liked it!
The food at this place is stellar. I hadn't been since the pandemic as I didn't think ramen was a good takeout meal, but they packed the broth separately so the noodles stayed perfect and even 20 minutes after pick up, it was pleasantly hot and so good. The staff were their usual efficient and pleasant. So until we can go back safely, we can still get our fix!
Always top tier food and best ramen in San Rafael.
Delicious Food. Friendly staff. Enjoyable atmosphere. A great place to share a meal with family and friends.
We did a road trip from Portland Oregon to try out this ramen while in San Rafael. Didn't get to stay long, but our short experience was nice. Friendly staff and good ramen. We had a few small sides that were also really good. I cannot wait to make another trip to Uchiwa Ramen and stay longer next time. Thanks Angel for the good conversation and wonderful food. This ramen shop is worth a try.
Ramen is always excellent and the service is friendly and helpful
LOVE this spot. We have been going here for a little over two years now and it's a pleasant experience every time! The staff is always wonderful and the owners are real nice. The ramen is fantastic and full of flavor.
I love ramen and I can't believe this was my first time here. Such delicious ramen! Staff was very attentive and friendly. Prices are good. My mom and I left feeling satisfied and will be back soon!
Bomb Japanese ramen house - offering delicious and gluten free! noodle bowls and some other Japanese foods. Broth is off the hook and a lot of the ingredients are local and organic, which I don't usually find in Asian restaurants. Service and atmosphere are great. I wish I lived closer so I could be a repeat customer. TIP! - if you do order the gluten free you won't get their signature pork belly, you get tofu, which was unexpected and a bummer but still 5 star food.
Very good ramen, great service. I always come here on pay day and spend my paycheck here. They got really good food and their hot sauce which they made in house are very nice and spicy.I live right next door so it's really easy to get here
Good looking Ramen place in San Rafael. I like the decorations. I ordered Shio Ramen ( Flavorful Light Broth) and the broth was very light and good. The noodles were perfect. The service was also good.
I love the veggie miso ramen and had it delivered to my door Delicious as always and timely as well
I am not an expert in ramen but I had Tonkotsu Ramen here and loved it. My friend who is experienced in ramen said that it was a bit bland and used kimchi to spice it up. My point being, this place is definitely worth a try if you are nearby. The ambience and service is really good. I also had gyozas which were delicious.
I got the Tonkatsu Ramen and it was fantastic. The rich broth was delicious.
Food is always great! Best ramen around!
The food was amazing. I got the spam musubi and pan fried ramen which were both excellent. The Yuzu soda was delicious. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was delivered quickly.
Their chicken katsu keeps me coming back. Consistent, reliable, and kind staff. I miss living in San Rafael strictly due to this restaurant.
This place is definitely a must if you are visiting San Rafel. The waiters don't bother you every 10 minutes and they are very very nice. The food is amazing and there are alot of different ways to make your Ramen special. We are definitely coming back to eat here. If I could give 10 stars I would!
Ordered ahead over the phone and drove by about 15 minutes later. The place was bustling despite not having any indoor or outdoor dining. The person who served me seemed more like a cook than a cashier (I'm a cook as well). Not only was he friendly and competent, but he was genuinely excited when I tipped $5 for my takeout order. Food was perfect and portions were more than a meal. For the price and service I'll be back here again.
Extremely happy with my ramen experience at Uchiwa, the broth and the chasu pork had an amazing rich flavor and the meat was perfectly cooked and tender. It was exactly what I hope for in a rich Tonkotsu ramen. I will definitely be coming back!
Music is great. I don’t know why there aren’t more 5 stars. Compared to every other similar ramen restaurant they don’t charge automatic service fee, they aren’t more expensive than another restaurant I was comparing. I went to a place down the street for pho and they wanted me to pay additional money for more meat and they claimed their large size had more noodles and meat, but based on my experience that’s a lie. Anyways, the music and the interior design here is great. I hope this encourages more people to come enjoy the ramen here.
Uchiwa Ramen in San Rafael is always a solid choice. But let me tell you, this time of year? It's especially good. Maybe it's the cooler weather making a warm bowl of noodles even more comforting
Enjoyed a very delicious lunch. The kale salad was super tasty. I could eat that as an entree. The Spam musubi was great. The ramen was good. The broth could have been tastier.
Ramen on a rainy day was a perfect pairing. My office and I scrambled to get a To-Go order in for our lunch today: our first choice was unresponsive to our online inquiry or answering their phones to let us know that To-Go wasn't an option for their place anymore.. so we found this spot. Excellent Customer service, first and foremost. I will sing praises of this place for their patience, their attention to detail and thoughtfulness of our situation. Both people behind the counter were amazing folks, and they were swamped with people coming through for their lunch rush and having phone calls and To-Go orders made at the location. They were awesome! The food was well worth it. I received the Miso Ramen and it was a beautiful, traditionally made dish. Everything was portioned perfectly and the tempature was still hot when I got to it. They packaged it well and with the most thought! I never had to worry about the Raman dishes spilling or getting ruined! They even added a hi-chew! Haha I love that! I don't live in this area, but if I work here again, I know I can come back to this place!
Well the place is beautiful, I love the vibe on the restaurant nice music not to loud I meant if you have a business meeting I highly recommend this place. The restaurant is really clean that particular reason made me believe the food will be great. The Miso I enjoy today was so tasty way better the one on Japan town by Geary, every single item taste really fresh like recently made. I'm so exigent about this two reason recently made and fresh the bamboo shots were perfect as well the asparagus the miso broth was amazing no so hot which work really good for me. I fell like a really nice beautiful choreography on my mouth were all the ingredients complements each other so well really worth the money. come and enjoy a great Miso and a Hot Green Tea. highly recommend Uchiwa Ramen

Ramen is best in San Rafael. Always consistent, We have been a customer when they started with their pop up location.
Always a fresh, delicious and healthy meal from Uchiwa! The staff is knowledgeable about their menu and it’s a pleasantly dependable experience. Five stars!
I tried this place today for the first time. It's delicious. I had the Tonokotsu and found it super flavorful. The pork was delicious and fresh. The broth was rich and super flavorful - but not TOO heavy or greasy at all. The service was really friendly and the staff were knowledgeable. I will be back and think this is a lovely gem of a restaurant.
Second time at this ramen shop, the tonkatsu ramen is very delicious, but also very very rich. It's a good size portion, so we don't order anything else. Staff is super nice and the food comes out really quick. Will be going back to try the other ramen broths.
This is my go to for Ramen in Marin if I'm I can't make it into Uchiwa has a simple Ramen menu just like the Ramen shops in Japan. They specialize in Ramen and the atmosphere inside of the restaurant is quaint and inviting. I had an order to go and keeping the soup separate from the noodles and other ingredients kept the noodles firm. I recommend Uchiwa Ramen !
We did take out because we were both a little under the weather, and the miso broth in the vegetarian udon dishes was absolutely perfect, and just what we needed!

A ramen place that serves Loco Moco???!!! Heck ya! And it was superb! The gravy was the best I have had yet, and I've had several when I stayed in Hawaii.
The food was delicious. Very authentic Ramen. I liked the vibe of the joint. The staff was efficient.
Great spot for ramen and Japanese food in Marin. Can't go wrong with Tonkatsu, chicken karaage and Spam musubi. We ordered out and they (nicely and conveniently) packed the broth and the noodles separately to ensure the noodles didn't become soft. And speaking of the noodles, they had a nice spring to them.
Went to Sunday Brunch. Pleasantly surprised by the Karaage & Waffles with sake syrup. The chef smartly and skillfully fuses Japan and America in his Brunch menu. You can sense the love for food and appreciation for each culture. Not the Asian Confusion you often see elsewhere. Must go back to try the ramen.
Suprisingly good ramen for Marin County. I got the Tonkotsu ramen, and although it wasn't as rich as some other Tonkotsu I've had, it sure hit the spot. The biggest complaint I have is that they use spinach instead of seaweed... I love spinach, but it is not a good replacement for seaweed. I'll probably come here for lunch every once in a while.
Ramien and service was great but the street scene was challenging. Parked across the restaurant. Area is a hangout for homeless or vagrants, smoking and gathering in the street which made it difficult to relax, suggest parking on 3rd or further above.
Great cozy atmosphere, generous staff and decent food! We had the gyoza and the spam misubi, and I had the Tonkotsu. The tonkotsu was good, the pork belly led a bit to be desired and the entire meal could have used a little extra seasoning but that's me being picky! I would love to return to Uchiwa when I come to the Bay again!
My kiddo and I were pleasantly surprised! It wasn't too expensive and was quite filling. The kiddo did not want ramen at all, but thanked me afterwards for the tasty meal. We both left having enjoyed a very pleasant experience. Note: Perfect for cold weather days!
Nice place and atmosphere. Good service too. Vegetarian options were limited and weren’t really great, which makes me give a 4 star.
We stumbled upon this place and are happy we did! The ramen is good and fresh with a lot of flavor. We did the karaage as well and the flavor was amazing but the texture was not as crispy as I'm sure it is when it's fresh at the restaurant. We had to take it home of course until dine-in is allowed. Really good and I'd go back to try different dishes for sure.
First time having ramen. Pretty standard ramen joint, nothing that sticks out. Ramen was good, appetizers were a bit underwhelming. A little pricier than I'd like, about $30 for ramen and appetizers, but there are cheaper options. Pretty solid spot. Staff is very attentive.
Overall, the vegan ramen was great. The broth left a little something to be desired. I prefer the tofu very firm. I also ordered extra noodles, and it didn't seem to come with much more.

Decent Ramen, it's not really ramen but fusion Chinese ramen. I had the Miso, and my gf had the shoyu ramen. Not bad for San Rafael I suppose. Cost was $$ but that's for fusion prices everywhere. There is another ramen place down the street, looks more traditional. We'll give that a try next.
Gyouza shouldn't called Gyouza, but deep fried dumplings. The ramen were OK, but there are much better alternatives... The girl serving us was very sweet and incredibly beautiful 😂.
Good concept, ramen tries to be fusion and expensive but missed the target. Awkward ingredients like tomatoes in miso and tons of mushrooms in tonkatsu. Great vibe though.
We order tonkatsu and Shio Ramen. Tonkatsu was pretty yummy with flavorful broth and all the good toppings. The Shio ramen was not as satisfying. It seemed fragrant, yes, but I kept finding myself searching for the flavor. The eggs were a bit overcooked. I must say both ramen came with melt-in-mouth thinly sliced chashu pork (2 slices per bowl) and lovely bouncy and chewy noodle. These were the highest point. We felt the experience a bit rushed by the waitress, the place was merely less than half full. She was friendly enough I suppose. However, we felt she was not welcoming, and a bit abrupt in her mannerism. No hi, no how are you, just Are you ready? Something to drink? She dropped the food and went away quickly. She did check back with "everything ok?". Prices$$, ramen ****, service *
The tonkotsu ramen broth here used to be deep, rich, flavorful with glistening oils on the top of each spoonful. I visited many times before the pandemic hit. Just ordered a ramen for take-out here and although the toppings were pretty well executed (soft boiled egg, wilted spinach), I was not amazed by the broth. It had no depth anymore. No umami oils sticking to the noodles, interacting with the green onions on every bite. I admit that take-out ramen is hard to pull off, and they did many a thing right (heat retention, noodles al dente). But the broth man, it's fundamental...like sesame oil on fried rice kind of fundamental. Willing to try again next time I'm in town.
Great, friendly service with sub-par ramen. The seaweed sheet traditionally served with tonkotsu ramen was substituted with spinach? Boiled egg and noodles were plain, and the pork chashu was not quite right. Might as well cook ramen and frozen meatballs at home. This review would have been for 2 stars if it were solely based on food. Pro: they give out individually wrapped hi-chew candy instead of dinner mints. The search for a decent ramen place in Marin County continues!
Got the miso ramen 2x now and it is not nearly as good as other places in the area. I really don’t understand why it is rated so high.
Expect cafe experience. This is really an american cafe that serves japanese dishes. Don't expect to see a japanese chef or servers. Don't expect green tea or macha ice cream. What you can get is friendly and fast service, so-so ramen dishes. The pork is well cooked and tasty. The beer is fresh and chilled.
Went with folks who like and wanted Ramen, and they felt it was not on par with what they consider good Ramen. For me it was ok, and the service was great. Fairly plain venue, and lots of kids when we arrived who were noisy and running around, so not a place for a relaxing meal.
Ramen was tasty but not as rich as I would have expected. Karaage was a bit flour heavy. Staff was nice and welcoming. The music that the kitchen staff should be off or turned way further down during service. I heard that more than the music in the restaurant and the styles conflicted heavily. If you want to play the music that the kitchen plays, that’s fine! But play it throughout the restaurant.
First of all, the service was excellent! I interacted with multiple staff members and they were all warm, friendly, and professional. Unfortunately, the food did not match the service. I got the vegan shio ramen and it didn’t have much taste at all. Maybe I was setting myself up for failure because most vegetarian ramen broths don’t pack as much flavor as the meat-based ones but this one felt especially disappointing. I had to add a bunch of the chili seasoning to give it some taste. My friend got a meat-based one but said his tasted very average too.

The most bland restaurant ramen I've ever had. I got the miso ramen and it literally had canned corn and canned mushrooms in it. The broth was "ok" at best, but it lacked so much depth of flavor. You could barely taste the miso.
Overpriced and definitely under-developed flavor. I ordered the tonkatsu and shio ramen and both of the broth tasted like sock soup. For something that cost $15 and $12, respectively, the ramen itself seems to be from the frozen noodles that you can get at the supermarket. The same can be said about the pork. Chewy, way to sweet and just awful pieces of pork. The staff are definitely very accommodating and nice, so that’s the reason for the two stars.
Took my girlfriend here for her first Ramen. We both got the Tonkotsu. They don't have many options, no spinach noodles, no mushrooms, and the meet was lacking flavor and mostly fat. I ask for an extra hardboiled egg and only got two halves (by the way the eggs were cold and no flavor). For the price I would expect much better. The Gyoza were tiny and too salty.
Vegetarians, don't bother. We ordered the vegetarian miso ramen and the pan fried ramen with tofu. I think each of us had perhaps 3 bites before asking for take-out containers. Bland would be a nice way to say it, but boring is much more accurate. The miso ramen was like boiled vegetables (where the taste had been completely wiped out) and forgettable ramen noodles in the water they were boiled in. Absolutely taste-free. At least I could taste a hint of charcoal in the pan fried ramen, but felt I could do better buying noodles at the grocery store and cooking them myself. Ordered the curry rice ball appetizer, which is the only reason they got 2 stars from me instead of 1. Never again.
Short ribs were great. The Ramen itself was inedible, I have an incredibly high spice tolerance, but the way they made it was just inedible, not spicy, just absolutely destroyed the meal. They made a meal I ordered intolerably spicy when I ordered Regular Spice. I love spicy food, but this wasn't good, the ramen bowl was absolutely destroyed from the level of spice in a very bad way, couldn't taste anything, wasn't even worth eating half of it. So order the spice oil on the side if you actually want to enjoy your ramen at all...
COVID era on line order. 7 pm Friday. Said to come down for 730 pick up. A line of cars at the door. They hadn't even started my order but wouldn't admit it. Finally got order 40 minutes later than when they told me. Asked twice to speak to Mgr. I don't think there was one there. Usually great service and food but got food home and the Ramen was clumpy. Really disappointed since this was a favorite place. But downhill now. Go someplace else.
Went twice for dine in. I was really hoping to have a decent ramen spot for my walk home from work. Service was great. However, the ramen broth lacked depth in flavor. I tried their Shoyu and Tonkotsu ramen. The broths for both tasted much more bland than what I would have expected. They also add various vegetables that (while it's good to have veggies!) really dilute the flavor even more. The noodles themselves were fine in terms of texture and doneness, and the pork chasu that came with it was ok. Appetizers were good. Tldr, they add extra unnecessary and sometimes detrimental toppings in place of having very lackluster ramen broth. Basically, if I want ramen, I'm going elsewhere.
Disappointing experience, tongkotsu not warm at all, grumpy lady serving, perhaps too early after opening but would advise to try somewhere else. Its a shame, it all looked good, nice interior but here the saying, it's not the looks baby, it's the taste. Never again.
The staff is nice, and professional. The ambience is nice. The ramen, shoyo, and/or miso ramen was avoidable. We had karaage also, and I've def had better. Specifically the flavoring of the soup broths was mediocre-to-not-palatable. If you're familiar and accustomed to delicious ramen, this is not that, sadly. If you've had Ramen at those to-die-for-spots in the South Bay, Jtown, LA, Vancouver, Japan......you'll know wassup.

We waited for 40min after ordering, nothing happened. When we asked about our order status, nothing. They seem overwhelmed on a busy evening, but they did seem popular! We went down the street to another ramen place.
Ordered from this place twice on Uber eats. Both orders were canceled and they left me and my family waiting for 3 1/2 hours, ultimately having to resort to pb sandwiches for dinner. According to Uber, the first order was damaged and therefore canceled. The second order was supposedly canceled by the restaurant! Nice.
I went expecting authenitic ramen. My dad got the vegan and I got the tantanmen. Both broths were bland the tofu and the egg was ice cold. The egg was not soaked in soy sauce. I wish they said it was ground turkey because I assumed it was sliced in the tantanmen. The broth tasted like they cooked the ground turkey then dumped water in it and called it a broth. The oak kombucha was good though.
When I went to get ramen from a place I THOUGHT was good I was forced to wait for multiple hours (2 to be exact) and then was denied service anyway. I am utterly shocked at the lack or responsibility or pride this restaurant should have for its customers.
Hi. I order a chicken ramen to go feeling excited and all I received was what tasted like boiled sewage water with nothing other than a bowl of sorrow. I added a whole bottle of hot sauce and it couldn't even fix the taste. The atmosphere was toxic and the staff was mean.
Do not go here. Flavor is bland. I feel that a lot of American ramen is over salted but this was totally under salted. Taste like they use a powder mix not real broth. What a waste of good piece of pork belly too, it was over cooked with no flavor. I asked for ramen kosho and the sever said they don’t have it and wouldn’t even ask the kitchen staff if they had it. The boiled egg had no flavor. Bad service, bad food. Way overpriced for such low quality. Oh, and I got gyoza, which tasted packaged and they were deep fried. It should say “age-gyoza’ if they are going to deep fry them, although I doubt these cooks are properly trained on how to pan fry gyoza anyway. I couldn’t even finish the ramen and I was starving when I went in. Horrible experience.
I don’t recommend ordering the chicken katsu. It is a small portion for the price. I spoke with the manager who was clear that this was the serving size and was friendly. I would expect more for the price and was surprised. Will not order from here again. We do enjoy eating their ramen though. One recommendation would be to charge more and provide more chicken.
The ramen is very mild, so maybe a good introduction for someone not used to it. Don’t order the short ribs, not worth it. Staff are friendly and fast service is good. Beer is expensive Update 2/26/2019 So I ordered takeaway via Ubereats. The delivery was missing part of the order. The ramen which came was fresh but didn't really have the taste of ramen. When I called to speak to someone the guy on the phone was really unhelpful, said he would send out the rest of the order but nothing came. I am confused why this place is so highly rated. Both times I've tried its been a massive disappointment.

DISGUSTING Tonkotsu SOUP! I ordered online delivery. Me and my son could not even enjoy and finish. I hope I don't get sick. I still have the nasty burned and old oil flavors on my tongue. The meat disgustingly burned flavors. I used to go to this place before and never again. I never write bad reviews, but this is real a bad experience.
