Took my wife to “Foundry Kitchen & Tavern” for lunch and to surprise her with a 5 year anniversary ring! 👏🏼 The food was delicious! Thank you! We’ll be back to try other menu items! 👏🏼 😎 The views inside and out were spectacular and I highly recommend others to visit! 👏🏼 👏🏼 Thank you for making us feel welcomed! ❤️
We sat outside, and with the beautiful weather it was just the best option. The place has a nice view from the outside tables. It is really cute. The food was delicious. We arrive to what seemed to be a shift change but that was not a problem at all. We got our appetizer and in a really timed manner our entries. Almost as soon as we were done with the shared appetizer. The tuna was delicious!
Wonderful all around! Super friendly team, relaxing atmosphere and absolutely spectacular food! Thank you for hosting our large party!
Stopped in here for lunch on a Friday. The indoor part of the restaurant is so nicely decorated, very fun vibe. We sat on the covered outside patio overlooking the river, such a cute spot. We ordered 4 appetizers and one entree to share, the meals were so unique, delicious and so fresh. The service was great! They are so friendly and so attentive. We can't wait to come back. This is now one of our favorite places!
I recently had my baby shower at the Foundry loft (the upstairs floor), and had an absolutely wonderful experience. Mary and her event staff were very easy to work with - extremely personable, accommodating, and organized. The space itself is quaint and sophisticated, with windows surrounding the entire room and a skylight. It's a truly unique space for any sort of special event. We opted for brunch food which was so delicious and all of the guests were raving about how good it was. I strongly consider looking into Foundry for your event... or even just for a nice dinner out!
I’m still going to leave my review at five stars but I am very disappointed that they got rid of so many of the best items on the menu. The short rib dumplings were out of this world the street corn nachos were my favorite nachos anywhere and the fried chicken dinner for two was our weekly date night. It looks as though they got rid of all of these fantastic van favorites, please bring them back
Lovely, came because of an interesting review of their sweetcorn nachos and wasn't disappointed. They were great!
Great dinner with my wife. Waiters first day, service was perfect. Holy mole cocktail-spicy for me at the start but a good choice, rest of the cocktails looked good. Short rib dumplings were hot, crunchy and tasty. Miso salmon flaky and moist. Mochi cake with ice cream for dessert. Delicious meal, quiet on a Wednesday and perfect service.
Wow!! We were super lucky that we wandered into this place for lunch. The quality of all the food was superb. Easily one of the most delicious plates of nachos I have ever had. The sauce was a unique fresh spin to the dish, and the tajin seasoning was simply spot-on. We also ordered the impossible burger and mushroom po-boy, both of which we will reorder. Ah, and then the fries...I want more!
The wait staff is always upbeat and accommodating. Food is delicious. The fried tofu is my favorite appetizer. My husband is a huge fan of the bao buns. It's a cool building with good vibes. Great for a date night or brunch.
This place was great! Staff was friendly and welcoming, atmosphere was laid back and the food was delicious!!! We had the short rib dumplings to start, try them you won’t be disappointed! Then we enjoyed the half fried chicken dinner which was extremely filling and the Nashville hot chicken. Overall a great place if you’re looking for a cozy & warm vibe!
Great atmosphere with views of a small waterfall. The deck has good atmospheric lighting at night. The staff is really friendly and helpful! My wife and I especially appreciated the vegan menu options. Would love to see that grow in the future!
Great brews, delicious food, great atmosphere sitting on the patio near the river. Fish tacos were amazing!
EDIT - hallelujah, rejoice, for once was dead has risen. The nachos have been restored to the former glory and the world is healing. We are gathered here today—not out of hunger, but in reverence—for a dish that once brought us unspeakable joy. The Street Corn Nachos, formerly of The Foundry, have departed this earthly menu in spirit, if not in name. What remains is but a ghost, a shell of its former glory. It wasn’t just food. It was a revelation. Charred sweet corn with the smoky kiss of the grill, lovingly tangled with crumbles of cotija cheese, cilantro so fresh it could redeem your worst day, and a drizzle—no, a benediction—of lime crema that brought the entire creation into transcendent harmony. It arrived not as an appetizer, but as a moment of clarity. Friends were silenced by its arrival. Conversations paused. We didn’t eat it; we communed with it. But then, the chef—whose hands once blessed this masterpiece—sought change. Hubris disguised as innovation. The corn now canned, the crema cloying, the cotija replaced with something grated and anonymous. Chipotle aioli has made a violent entrance, uninvited and overconfident. What was once the delicate crunch of lightly salted tortilla chips has become a soggy battlefield, lost under an avalanche of excess. We do not blame. Not entirely. The kitchen must evolve, we are told. But some things are not meant to change. Some dishes are temples, not test kitchens. So let us not mourn what was lost, but celebrate what was: a dish that made strangers into allies and cynics into believers. To the Street Corn Nachos of old—we loved you well. We tasted perfection once, and we will carry that memory forever, one crisp, creamy, sweet-spiced bite at a time. Rest in peace. Or, perhaps, one day—return.
I have to say, this is becoming one of my favorite places to come and see what new vegan options they have on their menu! Most recently I got the vegan fried rice and, though a bit salty, was delicious and very layered! And of course, sitting outside provides a peaceful and natural atmosphere to enhance your meal all the more. Looking forward to see what they have when I come next time!
We stopped by at this place for brunch on our way back from our appointment with the wedding venue. The food is so amazing and the environment is very cozy. The price is reasonable. We live in Norwalk and we hardly find places like there in the local area. It was a busy Sunday but the service was good.
Our first visit and certainly won’t be our last. We took advantage of Newtown Restaurant Week specials. Surprising menu of quality choices. I highly recommend the short rib dumplings.
Don’t walk, run to the Foundry in Newtown/Sandy Hook. One of the owners is vegan, so there are several options on the menu. And not just your run-of-the-mill options. These are really well thought out delicious meals. I got the street corn nachos that had cashew queso on them. I asked if they sold the cashew queso because I would’ve bought a gallon of it. ( they don’t). Lol. I also got a green curry dish with vegetables. I ended up bringing that one home. But it looked beautiful. They also have an amazing variety of delicious mocktails. Worth a day trip if you aren’t close by. Lots of great hiking in that part of the state. We went after hiking Steep Rock Preserve in Washington Depot. I’m def going to be a regular at The Foundry. ( make rezzies if u can as others appear to already know about how great this place is!!)
I had a great meal at this place. The staff was very kind and helped me pick an item that I might like, since this was my first time dining with them. The Chicken Madras Curry was unexpected for a place like this, but it was surprisingly good. I will definitely eat here again when I have an opportunity.
The food was good but what impressed me the most is the ambience of the place. It is located on the river front. Loved the view and the vibe while enjoying my food. Foundry Kitchen makes it to the "must-go" places on the list. I highly recommend this place and would love to go back there whenever I am in the area
Had a great time here on Wednesday! Enjoyed some great drinks (the floor is guava) and great dinner as well. I enjoyed the Miso Braised Salmon which was amazing, and my friend had the classic burger which she enjoyed and I brought home the Huli Huli Pulled Pork for my boyfriend and he also wants to take a trip to Newtown now to see the Foundry for himself! Our server was kind and attentive, and especially patient as we took our time ordering since my friend and I had a lot to catch up on and never made us feel rushed. I appreciated her patience and I wish I could remember her name, but she was great! Definitely will be back next time I’m passing through.
I have been wanting to try this spot for quite a while and I am SO GLAD WE DID! Wild Boar Eggs Benedict = HANDS DOWN BEST EGGS BENEDICT IN CT. The eggs were perfectly cooked and gorgeous! The hollandaise sauce was so flavorful without overpowering the dish itself which it easily can. Wild boar = holy amazing 🥳. Entire dish, including presentation = 10! Did I happen to menu the bottomless mimosas? 😮🤗 Server was awesome as well. Vert friendly, funny, knowledgeable and on point. Rustic vintage decor inside and out. Beautiful experience for outside dining by the river! We will be back... and often. 🥰❤😊
The street corn nachos! BOMB!! LOVED EM! We ordered 2 for the table. Everything was great. Sat outside with the running water out back. Great vibe.
One of our favorite restaurants in Connecticut! The food is always delicious. We have not tried anything we were not thoroughly satisfied with. Their Brunch French Toast is unlike any we have ever had, must try.
Absolutely fantastic experience. Great food! Had Pretzel encrusted tuna, Korean wasabi poke, calamari, whooping, Ethiopian dry rub winds... All excellent. Good beers. Also tried the fashion me envious (bourbon, absinthe, chartreuse.. honey ice)
Very quaint restaurant with bar located in restored older building. We Enjoyed all aspects of our dinners. Service was friendly and well performed, food and drink menu was well suited for the charming atmosphere, food service was well timed and not rushed which is very much appreciated and food was well priced for the quality served. The smoked Hudson valley Salmon platter was perfect and well thought out. Both entrees were delicious, outside in burger and surf and turf " properly cooked scallops with wild boar belly. Can't say enough about the service and not being rushed. Looking forward to coming back.
My Sister found Foundry Kitchen and Tavern for my Bridal Shower yesterday, May 30th. Mary and her team were phenomenal, kind, and caring, supportive and overall easy going. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how beautiful the location was, and how good the food is. I would highly recommend the Foundry for a private event, dinner or drinks. Kudos to Mary and her team. Thank you for helping to make the day so special.
Good bar lunch. Friendly and attentive bartender. A little pricey for bar food. Will continue to return, however.
Brunch recommendation. I had the Eggs Benedict; perfectly poached eggs perched atop toasted English muffins with Canadian bacon and a velvety hollandaise that had just the right hint of lemon. Every bite was rich, satisfying, and beautifully balanced. The atmosphere was just as impressive: cozy with soft, live music and natural light pouring through large windows. It’s the kind of place where you can linger over a cup of coffee and actually enjoy the moment. Between the delicious food, kind-hearted service, and calm, inviting vibe, this place has definitely earned a return visit. Highly recommend for your next brunch outing!
Long wait for our food but other than that we loved it. At least we know they were making food fresh! The food was delicious!
We had a great experience thanks to our amazing server, Sierra! She was friendly, attentive, and gave great recommendations. The Inside Out Burger was incredible and the short rib dumplings were delicious and tender! Sierra made everything smooth and enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back!
I just had my daughter’s bridal shower at Foundry Kitchen and Tavern and I am so happy with how the event was managed. Tori was responsive and helpful. The room was beautiful, food excellent and the staff was polite and efficient. I would absolutely host another event at Foundry.
Foundry is a high-quality restaurant. Food is consistently excellent, and drinks at the bar, though pricey, are very good and balancing. Definitely recommend!
Really enjoyed the smash burger. Korean chicken was delicious. Good drinks. Solid choice for a date night.
We had a group of 7 and the waitress was attentive. With this number of people we had a variety of food and everyone enjoyed their order.
Cool choices on the menu and great service. The place is beautiful also.
One of my partner and I’s staples. She is vegan and they have plenty of delicious vegan options that I will also indulge in cause they are just that delicious. For a short period, they changed the menu and got rid of those options, but we are very very happy that Chef Matt has returned and brought back the original menu, and included even more options for both my vegan partner and my omnivore self. Excellent dining experience and we will be back again and again
Foundry has so many incredible and unique vegan options that you can't get from anywhere else in the area. I'm so glad Chef Matt is back! Every vegan meal he crafts is perfection and I love seeing what he cooks up on Wednesday nights for Vegan Night! The staff is great and very friendly. Service can be slower on super busy nights but the food is always worth the wait. Cocktails are really good also. Overall, really enjoy coming to Foundry- it's our go-to spot in town.
The food, service and atmosphere were all good but I got the Prime rib and grits and the plate size was smaller than the fried chicken. I like how the waiter asked if we have food allergies. Most places don't ask.
We booked the 2nd floor for a bridal shower and it was perfect. The food was great and the service was excellent. It's a laid back space and atmosphere with a lot of room for 20-30 people.
Like a total rookie, I waited until a few days prior to Mother's Day to start investigating brunch options. I don't recommend that approach. Thankfully, Foundry was more than willing to accommodate me, and my mom and I stopped by this past Sunday. The parking was super easy to locate/utilize - if there are no available spaces right by the building, there's a spacious lot a little further away. Unfortunately, it was pretty nippy/gloomy out, otherwise I would have tried to take advantage of the outdoor seating options overlooking the river. Regardless, the inside is pleasant as well, and we were seated in a dining room to the left of the entrance with lots of black and white pictures on the wall and tasteful wood paneling; several reviewers mentioned modern farmhouse vibes, and I second that sentiment. It was a little chaotic when we first came in and it took a few minutes to be seated. Not a big deal, and everyone we encountered was super nice and apologetic (which was unnecessary in my opinion but still a classy touch). At my insistence, we split the short rib dumplings app ($15), and ended up both getting the same entree, the bread pudding French toast ($18). The dumplings were very flavorful, and I can see why they're so popular. Texture wise it was a little too crunchy for my palate - I think there were pickled onions or some type of crispy cabbage in there. One of the main reasons I enjoy dumplings (and its sibling the empanada) is because they contain a lot of scrumptious items that I normally wouldn't eat because of texture, but they're basically melded together within the shell or dumpling so it's not as noticeable. That's not the case here, and your mileage may vary on this. I was a big fan of the bread pudding French toast, which is exactly what it sounds like. Great consistency, great taste, and the fruit compote/berries they used complemented the bread pudding well. It was super filling though, and I was pretty stuffed afterwards. My mom didn't finish hers, and I gladly took the leftovers and munched them on the way home. She also ordered the creme brulee ($10) for dessert (I thought it would be redundant to get dessert after the bread pudding) and enjoyed it. She was a little lukewarm on the fruit topping, which she didn't think meshed well with the rest of the dish, but I was able to use it for my bread pudding leftovers. The service was pretty good though it did slip towards the end (we had to notify the busboy to get our waiter for the check). We also had a pleasant conversation with I think the manager or owner at one point, who helpfully refilled my water without being prompted. The hospitality aspect was strong. Definitely a pleasant experience overall; the Asian-influenced menu is a unique twist for the area. I'd come back, especially to investigate the intriguing cocktail menu.
Fun and friendly, casual but a little hipster, the patio at the Foundry Kitchen is a great place for lunch on a sunny afternoon. The service was friendly and inviting, but there were some long stretches without seeing a waiter. The food was fresh and delicious. And the stream running right next door made the experience picture perfect. My one real complaint were the number of flies. There were times when we were actually asking each other what was going on as there were so many!
Had the inside out burger with yuca fries. Messy meal, but delicious. Fish tacos were ok, not very flavourful.
One of the more scenic little places around, tucked away on the brook in Sandy Hook. Live music for brunch until 3pm today too! Waitress was having a day I think, and the food was decent, but the feel was great and we had a nice time. Make sure to get some pictures! Eat outside for the view, eat inside for AC and more space. :)
We sat outside, we had a nice view and we could enjoy a beautiful weather, service was good, variety of drinks, cocktails and wine, nachos wasn't the best, but they were tasty and kinda spicy, calamari were crispy.
Why did you guys get rid of nearly all the vegan options? You had some of the best vegan entrees in town. The nachos were still amazing, and the dumplings! Crossing my fingers that you guys bring back the mushroom po boy sandwich.
So The foundry has awesome ambience and the staff is incredibly friendly and engaging. Order an afternoon cocktail and you want to make sure you wait for the food to arrive before you start sipping because they make them strong and still managed to keep the unique taste of the cocktail pleasant. The food menu is a bit unique and it might have been because we showed up after the normal lunch rush and before the dinner rush that our food was not overwhelmingly awesome. I had a patty melt and it was the first time in my life I've ever had a tough hamburger. Not tough in the way that two dogs cannot pull it apart. Obviously it's hamburger, but I found the texture not to be as enjoyable as I would have liked. I left it to my server to select the type of fries to go with my meal offer several types and normally this gives a restaurants chance to put their best foot forward. I can't even tell you what type of fry I had but I am thankful I had ketchup. My friend ordered a BBQ sandwich she only ate half of. She didn't eat any of her fries. I do not mean to be unfair because I really do like this restaurant for its staff, for its location and for the wonderful visual of sitting in such a beautiful space. And as I said the drinks were off the chart. This was our first visit so we could have gotten their kitchen on an off day. We do plan to go back and give it another go.
This place has a nice out door view of the river! I had the lunch salmon which was good.. I wouldn't call it my favorite meal but it was ok. They have a small selection of craft beers as well unfortunately they were out of 2 of 3 of the local IPA options... :(
Atmosphere was amazing and a friendly staff. The food was super lackluster, bland and tasteless. I had the chicken sando. The only thing I tasted was the oil it was fried in. My wife had the classic burger for brunch and even that was bland. We initially went for the street corn nachos, however upon arrival we were told it was not available for the brunch. The website does not mention anything of the sort so we were a little confused. Overall even though I'd love to come back for the nachos I dont see that happening. Google review is 2 stars but it really is a 2.5
One has to wonder if owners changed, maybe the chef, maybe the managers. As a usually great place for a meal this was one of the worst meals, horrific service, and tone deaf experiences. Our food took approximately 1.15 hours to arrive. When it did it was clear, by the scalding hot plate and "fresh salsa" which was pipping hot, that our food sat under a hot plate for a significant period of time. Throughout the wait we periodically asked about our dinner, the response was how crazy outside was. There were 3 tables occupied outside and maybe 4-5 inside. The food was uninspired, cheaply made, and overall subpar. I ordered a steak which was overcooked and "shoestring" fries which had more in common with my shoes than fries. The salmon on the salad was a single slice. The fish tacos were clearly an after thought and combined with the shoe fries. Overall the food was horrific tonight. The waitress was rushing us attempting to clear plates while multiple people were clearly eating. Hard to imagine the rush in an empty restaurant.
