What a lovely gem of a pub. We had the Sunday roast. I had pork which was the best roast pork I’ve had in ages. My other half had the roast trio which again was really tasty. Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere and we will definitely be back. It’s five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from us. Happy Christmas 🎄

We were visiting a National Trust property near-by and wanted to eat either before or after our visit. Turned out the pub was doing a Hog Roast event with music that evening. It turned out to be a smashing event. We sat in the pub gardens which were great. Great food, well priced . Pleasant attentive staff. And....lovely live music. Fortunately we arrived early so were able to park in the somewhat small car park. However when we came to leave we were totally blocked in by an assortment of vehicles simply parked anywhere they pleased. It took several tricky manoeuvres and patience to get out of the place . Still it didn't damp down our enjoyment of the day and the experience in the pub.

We went for the 'Wellington Wednesday' and it did not disappoint! We were both really looking forward to our visit and the food was fantastic. The beef Wellington was made to perfection, the beef was so tender, the pastry was spot on and the accompanying vegetables were great too. Then we had desserts....oh my! They were amazing!! If it was socially acceptable to lick your plates afterwards, we would have!! Would highly recommend and most definitely visit again

A very attractive pub and restaurant with nicely spaced tables inside and out. Some less run of the mill dishes on offer at reasonable prices. Very accommodating letting us share a starter and mains which was plenty given our smaller appetites and their generous portions. We have visited before when walking but this was a pleasant lunchtime meal well served and thoroughly enjoyed. Not local for us but would definitely recommend and drive out here again in the future.

We had walked 5.5 miles around the local countryside When it was suggested that we would like to lunch in the papermakers. We was warmly greeted and showed to a table for 5 The food was great 4x sausages and mash and I had the thai chicken curry all of had clear plates Followed by 4x apple crumbles and 1 mixed icecream yet again 5 clear plates. Thank you very much.

We are here last night for our wedding anniversary. It really couldn’t have been better, the staff were welcoming and provided great service and the food was excellent (highly recommend the tacos as a starter). My wife is gluten free and currently also can’t have diary and this was exceptionally catered for. Thank you for a lovely evening. We will be back.

Came on friday night, the bar was busy so there was a lovely atmosphere, was pleasantly suprised to find out it was happy hour when we arrived! Seated next to the fire, delicious fish and chips, large portions and fantastic service, thankyou to all the lovely staff

Great find, clean and comfortable seating. Lovely friendly staff 😊 The food was faultless! Caters well for vegetarian dishes, presentation was well thought out both on food and seating. Reasonable prices and seating available for just a drink inside and out. Short drive from Ightham Mote. Worth the drive and will be back👍🏻😊

Good pubs come to those who travel to Plaxtol. As soon as I popped my head into the Papermakers Arms I knew I was in the right place. The interior is modern, bright, but still has that country feel given the hearth and historic photographs. I loved reading the stories dotted on the walls; they invite the customer to not just a pub, but an institution. I also loved the decor of the tables; the Papermakers Arms leather table mats, candles and flower arrangements are beautiful. With all the poignant details, it was predictable the food would follow the same Qualities. Right I was; each dish was splendidly presented and prepared. There was thought put into the plates the food was showcased upon. I loved the service, down to earth, professional and caring. This was up there with the best pub food experiences of my life.

Lovely little country pub. Excellent food and friendly service. Easy online booking. Only gripe is a lack of parking, but think that's common of the area. Would definitely reccomend.

A lovely atmosphere here with fast, friendly service with a smile. Food was excellent with a good, if not relatively common, selection available. Reasonably priced with good accompanying selection of beverages of all descriptions. I was treated to a very good bottle of wine (photo attached) which is well worth a try. Warm, cosy, friendly and unhurried. A real delight and will definitely return for more.

With 3 different starters and 4 different main courses between 4 of us, every dish was really delicious and plentiful, all enjoyed in a pleasing dining room. Service was prompt and very friendly. An excellent meal; looking forward to going again soon. Highly recommended.

Visited as one of a group of ten for early Christmas get together. Service was brilliant, food sublime, nothing was too much trouble and atmosphere was second to none. Obviously not the only ones who enjoyed this lovely venue as it was quite busy. Would highly recommend.

Lovely Village Pub! Very dog friendly, we had a bowl of water and doggy biscuits waiting on our table. The Sunday Roast was delicious, tasted very fresh and the portions were massive. Staff were all welcoming and polite.

Amazing food - what a find! The chicken ballantine with a burnt butter sauce and black pudding croquet - utterly delicious. Service was great - super friendly and attentive. They had a great kids menu too, which is lovely. Homemade cheeseburgers - perfect size. Boys were also entertained by the art pack given to them at the start. We had a lovely time and will be going back as soon as we can.

Only popped in for a quick drink this evening. What a lovely pub, the decoration and furniture are so nice. Flowers and candles on the tables. But with a traditional friendly feel. The girl behind the bar was so friendly, we will definitely go there again. My partner said it was a nice pint too.

Popped in bank holiday Monday at 12 noon, despite not having booked and the pub being fully booked they found us a seat and delivered a light lunch that was excellent. Good service, good food. Clean loos what more do you need. It was also excellent value for money

After many years, of eating out lunchtimes ,found this pub in Plaxtol, I can wholeheartedly say a very good experience, the food was a delight to eat especially the fish and chips(Haddock), and the prawn Thai curry! It's a little pricy but worth the money. It is well worth the visit

The team here have created a total gem. The food is outstanding, special and well priced and paired with excellent service. The entire experience is pulled off with class, but no pretension. From start to finish you feel as though the staff genuinely care about you having a lovely time. 5 stars through and through.

Visited for lunch with friends. Lovely shady table outside. We had a mix of starters to share and that was no problem and provided with side plates. Good and friendly service. They even had gluten free bread, which was a must for me. Will visit again.

Love our local. Graham, Rachel and the team work so hard to make it a great village pub hub. From events to lovely breakfasts, a brilliant selection of Gins, relaxed dinners by the fire and more!

Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday with friends. What a great place to eat this is. You could easily miss this The Papermakers Arms which is tucked away in the lovely village of Plaxtol. The drive to the restaurant takes you through lovely Kent countryside and the food that awaits you is superb. Friendly staff, great food and very good prices. Do give the Papermakers Arms a try. We’ll be going again.

Lovely pub and atmosphere. Very good selection of drinks, starters and desserts. Quality of what we had was very high and the service was excellent. The only reason why I don’t give the 5th star is that I found the choice of the mains quite limited and maybe a bit samey compared to other gastropubs.

We finally made it to the Papermakers Arms for Sunday lunch. Very welcoming staff and good atmosphere. There is a good selection on the menu but we went straight for the Sunday roast. All the vegetables were well cooked and lovely roast potatoes but the beef was not so clever. Both of us had slices that were very tough. The flavour of the fast majority of the meat was very good, however these very tough pieces spoiled an excellent meal. Enjoyed the experience, think we were just unlucky. You must book ahead, the car park is quite small. There is plenty of outside seating for the summer.

All good! Cocktails very good. Lovely log fire, friendly staff. The optional 20% service charge is a bit cheeky and leaves one embarrassed by reducing it which is not what you want customers to feel.

Laurence Buckman

An interesting and reasonably priced menu well presented and flavoured. Service was friendly and swift. The wine list had plenty of choice. Vegans and carnivores are well catered for.

Popped in for a quick Sunday lunch.... we didn't buy any meat-based meals (as they seemed a bit too expensive), so we purchased a Halloumi burger and Sweet Potato and Beetroot dish (which were very nice). However, the pub had a serious lack of atmosphere at the time.

What a fabulous country pub!! The food was good, the waitress was friendly and having lunch in the garden with friends was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Thank you!

They had no beer on pump which disappointed my husband

Great out of the way pub that is well kept with a great menu. The food was excellent pub style food that was well made. Limited vegetarian options, no vegan option. I thoroughly enjoyed my Chicken Supreme and I particularly enjoyed my Affogato even if the flapjack was a bit dry. Which would earn the place 4 stars. Only downside, beer selection was a bit uninspired, and service was unfortunately a bit flaky. The waitresses forgot we had asked for a jug of water for the table and a bowl for the dog. We didn't get menus very promptly (had to ask for them and then still had to wait for a while), and we were asked several times if we had ordered when we had. So unfortunately I have to say a middle of the road 3 out of 5.

***Edited here following the long, defensive and quite embarrassing response from the landlord. It further reflects our experience (as mentioned, the chef, food and other staff are great - something he has not picked up on) and speaks volumes! We were all more than lovely (and very friendly, as we always are) on both occasions, despite there being issues on both occasions - the landlord has not acknowledged this or apologised. Real shame as this could be a fantastic place, just wholeheartedly let down by the landlord's bad attitude and manners. I prefer not to give my heard-earned cash to owners who are rude to customers for absolutely no reason and rip you off with the very smallest portion sizes. The choice is yours!*** I have edited this review from 5* to 3* after a disappointing experience at the weekend. (We had a fantastic time here a couple of weeks before - food was excellent and staff were efficient, attentive, genuine and friendly - there was a huge delay with the food so they offered a free drink, which was good of them). However this time around our booking was dealt with by the landlord, who was rude more than once to us. We called an hour ahead to say we would be a little late (unavoidable emergency at home) and he was quite to-the-point. When we arrived, it appears something had gone wrong with the booking, where my notification that we had a dog had not been received. Despite them allowing dogs in the bar, we were told to sit outside (which we understood), but were given a table without overhead heating (we assumed the others were booked). We were so cold after a while that we asked to move to one of the empty tables WITH overhead heating and were finally given a blanket. Our roasts were very tasty (the chef here is brilliant) but the portions were incredibly small - a couple of wafer thin slices of pork, three very small potatoes, and not much more (£15). We could deal with that, however my dish was rudely delivered (by the landlord). It's a dream come true for some people to manage a country pub and to welcome regular, local and friendly custom like ours - it's just a shame the landlord doesn't seem to see it that way.

A disappointing visit to what was previously a really great pub. I believe it is under new ownership. No heating on and no open fire in January. We had to put our coats back on because we were so cold. Lots of beers on menu not stocked and so, after several attempts to find one in stock, they offered me one on the house, which was generous. Food was ok but quite small portions and quite basic pub grub. Service was friendly but sporadic. Sadly we won’t be returning.

We enjoyed an excellent lunch here, delicious food. The service was very good too. Very pleasant decor etc though it was a little chilly... probably as it was a weekday and only half full. However we will most definitely go again!

We ate here last night based on the glowing online reviews and were so disappointed. The pub and restaurant were largely empty when we arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night. Only one other couple eating. The service was great, no issue there, but the food was dreadful. We had chicken wings, the Thai green curry and the halloumi burger, none of which were even close to satisfactory. The Thai green curry looked grey. The food looked and tasted microwaved. My corn in the cob looked so unappetising that I didn’t touch it. The food we received was nothing like the picture of the food online. If the food has been good in the past it isn’t today. Our meal for two with drinks came to £92 so not all that cheap either. We would definitely not recommend.
