Came here for early dinner after a local walk. Really friendly staff. Food was fairly priced, tasted great and was generous portions. Had our dog with us who got a lot of intention by staff and customers. They even provided here a treat and an egg to enjoy. We are indoors but the outside area looked nice. Will come again soon when next in the area.

We drive past this pub quite a lot and we thought we’d pop in for some food to try it out as it looks nice from the outside and we were absolutely not disappointed. The pub is really well designed so it’s cosy and has warm lighting, great furniture and chairs and a lovely atmosphere. The waiter Jamie was fantastic, really looked after us and was there when you needed him but left you alone to enjoy your dinner, which I have to say was exceptional! He was very helpful when it came to choosing a wine to go with your food. He made us feel relaxed, comfortable & welcomed. The food was exactly if not more than I’d hoped it would be. The food was delicious. We will absolutely be coming back here. I’ve found my new place!

We had a lovely evening and the food was good. Love the festive atmosphere. There were a few items off the menu but everyone enjoyed the food they had. Great for large groups at this time of year.

Great visit. Lots of empty tables when we arrived for a early booking, venue full later. My winter salad was delicious though odd sliced new potatoes with a small rice of butter wrapped in foil was strange.

An Idyllic Escapade into Culinary Delights! One simply must paint the scene: imagine, if you will, a quintessentially English countryside pub, its charm already undeniable, but then, behold! A magnificent teepee gracing its verdant gardens, transformed into a veritable fairytale haven. As if such an enchanting tableau weren't enough to utterly captivate the senses, I then cast my gaze upon the menu. I believe, a collective gasp might have escaped me – for it was a culinary scroll of such exquisite temptations that one yearned to simply order, well, everything! And so, without a shadow of a doubt, consider this my solemn vow: I shall be returning, time and again, until I have had the distinct pleasure of conquering every last, delectable offering on their extraordinary menu. Chin chin!

Even better second time! We came for dinner again and the food was superb. I had the Chorizo Scotch Egg to start, followed by the Cod and Fries, with the Irish Affogato to finish. Friendly service, lovely decor and clean facilities make this an excellent venue. We shall return!

Took misses and kids here for her birthday. Great experience, friendly locals and both the Tented restaurant and Apres lounge were fantastic.

We had a really lovely visit to The Moody Mare recently, the first of many I hope. Great staff and a really good selection of drinks. The most incredible aspect of the pub is the building. The atmosphere is really special and history is truly worth hearing about. The team have managed to keep both the important historical features but add some unique features, such as the teepees at the back of the pub.

Lovely place to go anytime, had lunch in this lovely country pub. I live in London and there are no country pubs like this. Nice ambience with the fairy lights and Christmas tree. Service was warm and friendly , we didn't have to wait long for them to take our orders and the food was nice.

We went here for mothers day. Were very impressed. The staff were very friendly and made sure we were looked after. No waiting at all, drinks arrived within 5 minutes of ordering them. When the food arrived it was piping hot and on time. Considering it was from the set menu extremely tasty too. Would definately recommend a visit. We will be going back very soon to try out an evening meal. My mum had a great day.

Food was fantastic, large portions and full of flavour. Lovely staff and beautiful pub. Recommend!

Excellent service and food with some very generous servings. The sharing board in particular for 4 people went down an absolute treat (no pictures as it disappeared quickly!) highly recommended. Felt very safe with the social distancing between tables. Nice added bonus that the pub was dog friendly as well. Will be return after lockdown part 2 for sure!

Large car park. Some steps to entrance. Friendly welcome on arrival. Good service and food.

We have been here a few times now, and never had a bad meal or experience yet. Not saying we want to lol The food always is on point and tastes really good, staff are really really nice and make it worthwhile going and we will keep going bad Cons:- getting out the car park with people driving flat out towards you 😬😬😬

We sat in the Tipi, was really clean and tables spaces out nicely. As soon as someone left the tables where cleared and staff have face covering on when they come close to your tables for food service. They check your temperature on arrival and there is hand sanitizer as you enter and exit.

Great little pub serving excellent food. Small, but good choice of ales. Situated by a main road, but we did not hear any traffic noise inside. Staff very friendly and helpful. Large car park, which is always a bonus. Toilets rather small but well maintained.and you dry yours hands on small towels/flannels which is a very nice touch.

The food has always been fantastic here whenever I have visited. The pub has a cosy feel, can also sit outside in wooden covered seating or they have a teepee.

Moody Mare made our Valentine's evening worth it. It was our first time there, and my husband booked it. All dinner guests were hosted in the tent, and it had a romantic Morrocan vibe. There was a special valentines 4-course menu which was reasonably priced. The venue was fully booked, and service could have been slightly better as there was a minor mix-up with our order which was quickly rectified. We didn't have to wait too long in-between courses and the meals were delicious. Overall, we were very impressed and would be visiting again.

Nice food for reasonable prices. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the venue is clean and really big. A service charge is automatically applied to bill at payment.

My husband and I visited yesterday because after a holiday abroad, I desperately wanted a roast dinner without the faff of making it myself. Booked online Saturday night and had a table booked for 12.45. The first thing I liked was the car park. Generous in size and a must for someone like me who cherishes my pride and joy. Arrived and was instantly asked what drink we’d like before being shown to our table. The building is quaint and cutesy, yet clean and welcoming. I opted for the lamb shank as the pork loin came with gammon alongside it (would’ve preferred just the pork loin) and my husband had the roast beef. The lamb was stunning!! It fell off the bone and was succulent. The roasties were crunchy and a lovely selection of vegetables (cauliflower, pea, carrots, cabbage, sweet and leeks in cream sauce). I was not disappointed about any of it. The staff were attentive and not annoying. I saw one lady approach as I put food in my mouth and she walked off (thank you). We will definitely be returning and bringing family and friends.

My husband and I drove from Southend on sea because we had a great experience a few years ago. I can honestly say it was well worth the hour and a half drive. Our starters were delicious and we both had the roast dinner which was very tasty. The portion sizes are more than ample. We would highly recommend the moody mare.

Charming pub restaurant, went there to Celibate my mum's birthday during the festive season and there was a singer there too who I thought was very good so made the atmosphere even nicer i would recommend it I would happily go back again

My grandson and I had lunch here today and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. What made the experience even better was the service by Paula, a true credit to the business

We had a table booked for 16 that went up to 20 on the day we pre ordered the meals and came out very quick. The food was very good indeed especially the mussels the sauce was incredible. Highly recommend this restaurant

All I can say is SUPERB service, food and staff. Being Lactose and Gluten intolerant the staff at The Moody Mare bent over backwards to serve me a delicious meal within my dietary requirements. Outstanding service in my opinion and a Pub/restaurant I highly recommend to all and everyone Even "difficult" customers were dealt with politely (believe me, the customer in mind didn't deserve such kindness!) Excellent dining experience that I hope to repeat soon

First time visiting and thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were friendly, engaging and helpful. The winter salad was just amazing and I seriously hope it remains on the menu. The fish & chips would fulfill any hearty appetite and the house burger the same. The cherry and Amaretto tart has a great twist on the flavours of cherry Bakewell Can highly recommend and will be going back for certain.

Excellent time with friends having a roast dinner yesterday. Great value with portions and cost, and friendly/helpful staff. Teepee set up was great, and warmer than expected in that setting. Particularly impressed with how helpful they were with accommodating a young child, and with personally checking with the chef on gluten free options. Great place, will definitely come again!

My go to pub! Most amazing food, whether its a Sunday roast or weekday meal, I've only experienced great things. Love coming here with my little dog and my partner, and have occasionally arranged meals and walks around here with my friends as its just so lovely. All staff are so kind and accommodating, cant wait to come back already.

Managed to book a table for Sat eve at relatively short notice. Warmly greeted on arrival then a very pleasant surprise as my partner and I were walked into a new part of this establishment - a huge tented area that was lit up and very impressive. I ordered the duck, leek and orange spring roll for starter - really great and loved the combination of spice and citrus flavours, main course was the pork loin off the specials menu - again was really good as was the mixed Berry cheesecake dessert. Sadly my partner was not so lucky - the halloumi burger was average and the chunky chips marginally undercooked. The apple crumble she ordered was more crumble than apple and again just average. The waiting staff seemed to have given up by 8.45pm and seemed to want to go home. So - a tale of two meals, one excellent, one less so, great ambience in the tented area and service a little awry towards the end.

Warm, friendly staff are underestimated. The beautiful people of The Moody Mare cared for my every fussy need with a smile and chuckle. The pub itself is unadulterated English countryside in decor. Grab a wooden pew, a familiar looking menu and go for something hearty. Familiarity will set in on the taste buds with each bite. With a little more focus you’ll find a subtle twist in the ingredients, which give the dishes a little signature e.g., the fresh strawberry with the Sticky Toffee Pudding and mint added to the creamy mussel sauce. Price is spot on. Another excellent example of English pub grub.

Lovely quaint pub with fantastic service. Inside it’s oldy worldy but really lovely, and with two separate outdoor areas, one with childrens playground and wooden huts, and the other with huge tipi, it’s a special place indeed. We ate out in the tipi area which was heated and really lovely. Staff couldn’t be more friendly and attentive and food was really nice. Only criticism is that the menu was a bit lacking and could be improved, although food still was lovely. Will be back again soon.

Good choice of food on the menu. Restaurant was a bit too chilly for out liking (behind the bar) Good selection of gluten free options, and the staff were very friendly. Starter, main and dessert, plus a drink each was £75, so not bad. 👍

An amazing evening, hygiene levels to the highest, very unique as per pictures (one is of the gents) staff 100% amazing, food I would give 80% to but still well worth going with family, ( children annotated)

My daughter had booked this, and requested a table in the teepee. Wow, absolutely blown away as we walked in, such a wonderful space all bedecked in fairy lights. Heaters were on, so it was cosy . All the food we ordered was incredible, particularly the ribs and the slow cooked beef. Service was great too. Will definitely be back at some point.

I'd heard a lot about this place from friends. The food was great. Only issue was service. We were seated a little out of the way and had to ask all the time for bits and bobs. Young girls on service, totally nice and polite, not their fault. It wasn't busy, Saturday lunchtime. Not a complaint, I'll go back, just could have been a little better. Food is great!

Great food, great service but rather noisy in the restaurant. Not a very good selection of beers and ciders. Overall a pleasant Sunday roast, although I do object to a service charge being added. It should be up to me to tip as I see appropriate!

We have driven past this pub and always seen it busy so thought worth trying at the weekend. We booked wanting a Sunday Roast but was left thoroughly disappointed. The meat options were different than the online menu, with a choice of turkey, gammon or beef. I went for the beef and it came out well done, grey and tough. The vegetables were lacking and detracted from an already struggling plate: boiled sprouts, boiled skin on floppy baby carrots and dry red cabbage with a side of strange onion creamy leaks. The only saviour of the meal was the yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes. Service was friendly although we had to ask twice for the bill. Icing on the cake was a pint of lemonade was flat and had an odd taste making it undrinkable. Safe to say we won't be returning.

When we arrived it was 15 mins before they started lunch service on a Sunday. The gentleman behind the bar was a little bit rude to us. It was empty and when we asked if they served food now he said “yes but you can’t just sit down.... haven’t you ever been here before? It’s like our busiest day of the week”. Fair enough... we aren’t to know as there wasn’t a single customer in sight, and we didn’t even attempt to sit down. the way he spoke to us made us want to walk out, I think the guy working with him realised how rude he was and saw that we were going to leave & he saved the day. He was lovely to us (even found us a seat in the empty pub) and made us feel welcome. The veggie roast was tasty & a great alternative to meat! Normally veggie roast is dull but they nailed it. The roast potatoes weren’t very crispy but that’s my only criticism. We also had fish with mash and veg and it was nice also. Despite our strange entrance to the pub the other lovely guy saved the day and we had a tasty lunch. It’s just a shame that the bar man was so strange and kind of rude to us. Maybe he was having a bad day.

Warm welcome and very dog friendly, service want quick but wasn't slow either. Food was ok but nothing special, dearer than Wetherspoons but about the same quality. Would go again if passing but would go out of my way.

Dined with friends on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was unavailable so we had to reserve the tepee. Our friends had previously dined there and had enjoyed their experience. My husband and I enjoyed our meals of braised beef and the vegetable curry. Our friends had the soup to start with lasagne and haddock to follow. Although the soup looked appetising they said it had an underlying taste of vinegar and they couldn't taste the carrot and coriander. Service was friendly, efficient and prompt. However the tepee experience wasn't great. It was gloomy inside and when you are of senior years its difficult to see in such low light. The floor was uneven especially as you walked into the tepee from the main building and near our table a piece of flooring was damaged. I also bumped my head, not badly, as I got up from the table on one of the tepee supports. My fault, I should have been more aware of my surroundings, but better lighting would help.

We were seated at a table that really wasn't big enough for our group. Most dishes on the table were fine but unfortunately the beef was very overdone . I've had this before and was hoping the beef would be like the advertisement online but it really wasn't, shame.

Loved the food, presentation and atmosphere. The staff were very friendly but the service wasn’t great. Our drinks were forgotten and after we asked a couple of times for them, they came a little while after the starters. The mains took a while but that’s okay. We grabbed the menus off the side ourselves to look at desserts because they were in reach. The waitress came and took our dessert order but left our dinner plates for a while until another member of staff asked her colleague to clear our table. Dessert came and we had to ask for spoons but it was lovely. I don’t think the staff were bad, they were very nice but maybe just need a little more training. They mentioned something wrong with the tickets not coming through for the drinks, mains and desserts. Maybe it had been a long day, I’d just finished a super stressful shift in hospo so I get it! Just wanted to leave a review to hopefully create some improvement with the service, as the food and atmosphere were both spot on! I’d love to come back another time.

Very honest review of the Moody Mare. Arrived 40 minutes early to the reservation and were happily accommodated with a drink at the bar. Only had to wait a few minutes for our table to be prepped. When it came to take our order, we requested 2 lamb roasts, only to be told they've run out! Would've been nice to know this before we spent a good 10 minutes deciding what to have. Never mind, we ordered something different. The food came out extremely fast (within 10 mins from ordering). We ordered a starter to share, but when the food was given to us, we had no side plates to eat from. - OK again, never mind! As you can see from the image, the roast dinner arrived, minus the seasonal vegetables stated in the menu. Charging £18 for quite literally some meat and a few potatoes is extreme! After the mains, the service became extremely slow. Asking for dessert menu, 15 mins later it comes to us. Decided against dessert and again had to wait for the bill, and gave up waiting again for the card machine. Decided to walk up to the bar and pay. Overall, food was OK. Service, in places was adequate but missing any kind of "finesse". Even overheard other tables chatting about how long they have waited for their drinks to arrive. Probably won't come back again but it is a good place to visit if you are merely passing by.

I have just got home from a very quick meal. I booked the moodymare a week ago for my daughter's 25th birthday. I requested the tipis . Apon arrival we were being taken to eat in the main pub area ... I said to the lovely waitress sorry but I did request we were to be seated inside the tipis . She said that's fine I'll go talk to the manager, there is plenty of seating so don't worry. The manager ( I think) then came and said we don't sit anyone in the tipis after 4.30pm (our booking was 4.45pm) I said this isn't stated anywhere I've seen and wasn't in the booking form I filled in and no one has called to let me know . He replied it is on the form when you booked . I have checked and it absolutely isn't . I booked the moodymare for a beautiful place for my daughter's 25th . To be sat in a normal pub setting was really disappointing. We had a drink with a main meal and left . We had previously brought my mother in-law here for her 70th and it was gorgeous sitting in the tipis. Honestly very upset to turn up to a normal pub sitting this evening .

We had a joint birthday meal here for 10 people on Friday 30th Jan. We have been here before and this time it wasn't great. Firstly we were put in the tipi which was freezing cold, with a large puddle of water behind our table. The flooring is really dangerous as it is very uneven and my son tripped over it. The music was awful just a whole album of Oasis music. We weren't given enough menus and we had to ask for some more, the waitress didn't know the soup or pie of the day and had to ask someone else. Another waitress attempted to give us another tables starter then looked confused. The starters came out but some of them weren't very nice, the soup was very greasy and lukewarm and as there was no spoon available it soon became colder. We asked the waitress who said she would get us one but just stood chatting to her friends at the counter, so we had to walk down the tipi to get one ourselves. The prawns were a lot of money for just 3 on a plate. The garlic bread was dry and rock solid so I gave it away. The main meals weren't much better either, with very dry pork and chicken. The vegetables were just 3 carrots and a few green beans, with 1 dry hash brown. The waitress didn't give us a chance to comment on the food as at no point did she ask us how the food is/was. We were left with our dirty plates for 45 minutes while the waitresses chatted again with no offer of dessert or coffees, So we asked for the bill as we got fed up with waiting. We asked for the service charge to be taken off especially as it was over £30 and as we didn't receive great service, it felt like it wasn't deserved. The waitress was shocked and surprised when we asked her. Such a shame from a nice pub restaurant that has clearly gone downhill.

We had roasted dinner today 12.06.2025 selebrating 10 year anniversary, meat was green literally. Waitress was a bit moody and rude as on her shift today everyone loved green meat. Red wine was sour and warm and felt like bottle was open in heat for couple days. I don't know why people give so high rating. Probably haven't seen good service.

Absolutely the worst Christmas party venue ever! We had a group of about 80 people in the temporary tipi in December and paid £50 per head - this only gave us a mains buffet (no starters or dessert), and even then some people didn't get any food. The bar was severely understaffed - no exclusive bar for our Christmas party as advertised, and we had to queue for ages to get our drinks. They ran out of Prosecco after 30 mins! And had no ice. Glasses were absolutely filthy - not just dishwasher marks but dirt and what looked like short animal hair. We had to ask several times for clean glasses, and in the end they begrudgingly went and washed them. The women's toilets were absolutely DISGUSTING! Only 2 toilets, one with a broken lock and no toilet paper. A plastic tub in middle with brown water in it. It was so gross. Will never go to this pub again! Would give 0 star rating if I could.

⭐☆☆☆☆ I’m honestly shocked at how poor the service was at The Moody Mare. I booked a table a week in advance outside in the tipi for my husband’s birthday — a special occasion we were really looking forward to. On the morning of the booking, I got a call saying we’d have to sit inside because there was a wedding. I agreed, but when we arrived there was no wedding at all. Why wait until the day to call — It felt dishonest from the start. When we arrived, our first drinks came quickly enough, but then we were left sitting for over 30 minutes before anyone even came to take our food order. I had to ask a waitress, who didn’t apologise or seem remotely bothered. We ordered food and another round of drinks, asking for a straw for our son’s drink — it never came, and we had to go and get one ourselves. After waiting 25 minutes for our second round of drinks, I had to ask where they were. They finally arrived just before our starter was brought out. The food itself was lovely — the only saving grace of the whole experience. But our mains arrived less than 10 minutes after we’d eaten our starters, no one checked if everything was okay, and after we’d finished, we were left sitting for another 30 minutes without anyone clearing our plates away or offering us the dessert menu, not one member of staff came near our table. There was tables behind us which still had empty glasses and plates on. We eventually gave up, went to the bar to pay, and asked for the service charge to be removed — which it should have been, given how poor the service was. The staff member apologised that we felt the service wasn’t good and removed it. Didn't ask why, Didn’t even question it. They must be used to getting this complaint. It’s such a shame because the place itself looks beautiful and the food was lovely — but the service completely ruined what should have been a special evening. I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time, and I won’t be returning.

Beautiful pub and in the garden is a great atmosphere has a lot of potential.have been 3 times now hoping was just off days but unfortunately was not. The manager was rude every time I encountered her. Was treated like an inconvenience. Not helpful at all. A lot of young staff working behind bar and in the restaurant. The staff was running around constantly whilst she was sitting on a stool behind the bar shouting at them.
