"Life is too short for ordinary Review: Butter’s BBQ - Deserving of the Top 50 Title Stepping into Butters BBQ, a true brick-and-mortar establishment, the atmosphere immediately confirmed its reputation. With plenty of indoor seating and a genuine, welcoming BBQ joint vibe, the setting is as comfortable as the staff is enthusiastic. This is clearly a location where the team is passionate about their craft, and their helpfulness in guiding us through the menu was much appreciated. Having secured a coveted spot on the "Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ" awards list, the question was: did the food live up to the hype? The answer is a resounding yes. The Smoked Meats: A Masterclass in Fire and Smoke The menu offers a tight selection of Texas staples, all executed with precision: • Brisket: The star of the show delivered on nearly every front. It boasted a good tenderness and a beautifully defined smoke ring. While a few outer edges were slightly dry, the overall flavor profile was rich, deep, and satisfying, proving why the brisket is the cornerstone of any great Texas joint. • Pork Ribs: These were exceptionally tender, falling away from the bone without being mushy. The flavor balance was perfect—rich and meaty, thankfully avoiding the overly "hammy" note that can sometimes plague smoked ribs. A solid rib glaze complemented the excellent dry rub flavor, resulting in a perfectly balanced bite. • Jalapeño Cheese Sausage: A standout item. This double-grind sausage had a fantastic consistency and was heavily infused with a nice peppery flavor and well-integrated spices. While a minor note, a bit more cheese would have elevated it further, but the quality of the sausage itself was undeniable. • The Texas Twinkie: A true piece of barbecue artistry. This treat—a large jalapeño stuffed with tender brisket and cream cheese, then wrapped in thick-cut bacon—was executed flawlessly. The preparation was exactly as a Texas Twinkie should be, finished with a beautiful, savory glaze on the bacon that sealed the deal. Elevated Sides The sides were not an afterthought, featuring one truly memorable dish: • Mexican Elote: This was an excellent side dish and a clear elevation of the classic street corn. The careful mixture of flavors, topped with a solid amount of Cotija cheese and a generous squeeze of lime, made this a bright, tangy, and creamy complement to the heavy meats. • Brisket Charro Beans: A comforting and hearty offering. This was a pretty standard preparation of pinto beans, mixed expertly with brisket and onion—a reliable, staple side dish that did its job well. Final Verdict Butter’s BBQ is very deserving of its "Texas Monthly Top 50" position. The meat quality, especially the ribs and the perfect Texas Twinkie, combined with the elevated Elote, solidifies its position as a very solid BBQ joint. We left feeling impressed not only by the food but by the genuinely passionate staff who run the operation. This is a must-visit for any serious barbecue enthusiast.
Heading back to Victoria from SPI and wanted some BBQ enroute. Stopped at Butters, a little off of 77, the slight detour was well worth it. Rack of spare ribs, link sausage, potato salad, and brisket charro beans. Absolutely excellent, just excellent, and I've been smoking meat for 40 years. The only complaint I have is that I live an hour and a half away. Gonna have to triple-up my order next time.
Just had butters for the first time and am more than happy to say that I got more than I paid for. For our poker community that knows these guys, support this excellent business by showing love and ordering alot. The ribs fell off the bone and had a superior flavor to most ribs around texas. Very appreciative for the service I received and will definitely be ordering more, in bulk, in the near future. Thanks gentlemen, my family thoroughly enjoyed yalls food. Jeremy DeVillez
Get your buns over to Butter’s for excellent SouTex BBQ! Casual, very laid back setting in Sinton. Very friendly and helpful staff to answer questions or build the exact meal your taste buds want. Brisket is moist and fork-tender, with perfect smoky bark. Same goes for the ribs, with a slightly sweeter bark. Links seem house-made, not the best ever, but still tasty. Beans actually have nice spicy kick and the elotè corn is sho nuff! Not sure why they’d ever drop off that magazine’s list, but enjoyed the chill local vibe without long lines regardless! Only open Friday-Sunday, but barbacoa will likely bring us back on a Sunday!
I went with my wife and son to eat here and had the Texas plate. It had brisket, ribs, sausage and turkey with three sides. Everything was phenomenal! The brisket was very moist and flavorful with very good bark. I can’t say enough about the ribs sweet and tender. Turkey was very moist. The sausage was very good and flavorful. The sides didn’t disappoint. The beans are my favorite. Big chunks of brisket and great seasonings. Potato salad was very good with just the right amount of seasonings. Elote corn very good. I’ll definitely go back in the future. Well deserving of the Texas Monthly list.
I can't tell you if this is the best in Texas, but I had the brisket and ribs and will tell you that you will not be disappointed. Portion size was decent, not overwhelming. The sides were good, but nothing that made me want to call my momma. Parking is not convenient, you will be lucky to find a spot and might get blocked in, so I wouldn't suggest stopping 20 mins before that job interview. Definitely worth the stop and I will go back again.
If there is barbecue in Heaven, it will taste like this! This place runs out kinda early, so don't hesitate and show up late. I currently live in Kansas,. near Kansas City and there is no barbecue even close to Butter's here in Kansas or Missouri. The moist brisket is what we order when we're down in Texas. Along with succulent baby back ribs, and Jalapeno Cheese sausage. Every bite of everything will make your eyes roll back in your head. It could not possibly be any better! And I'm comparing this against the amazingly great Terry Blacks, which I thought could not be beat. But Butter's is right up there with the top of the top Texas barbecue. It's a hole-in-the-wall location, but it's beyond belief how good it is. Each time I've been here in little old Sinton, Texas, I am blown away by how good everything is. And the people behind the counter are friendly and there to help you. They have the secret rub on the brisket and the ribs. My guess is just the right amount of salt and pepper. And when we got everything to the table, and each of us were fighting over the pieces of brisket we wanted, it was falling apart on the serving fork. I kept going back in for fat! All 6 of us walked out with full belly's and big grins! I will always come back here anytime I'm down on the Texas coast.
Incredible BBQ. I can see why they were rated Top 50 by Texas Monthly. Plus, free Lone Star beer on Saturdays! We showed up on a Saturday at about 10:40am, and there was no line. Their hours are normally 11am to sold out, but they opened the doors early for us. I got a half pound of moist brisket, regular sausage link, and the elote. The brisket had a nice bark and wasn't overly seasoned with salt or pepper. The brisket was moist and juicy. Fell apart easily with a fork. The sausage link was tasty. It was not overly greasy which I liked. Some BBQ joints have some greasy sausages that drip or splatter when cutting or eating. However, these were not dry. Perfect smoke and season balance. The elote was delicious. I have had this dish only a handful of times in my life, so it's difficult to compare it. The wife ordered a sausage sandwich and potato salad which she loved. I would definitely come back here. The staff made us feel welcomed. They answered all of my questions. Only downside was no stamp for the Texas Monthly BBQ passport.
OMG, this place is so amazing! First time here and we got the 3rd wheel, family pack. It came with brisket, sausage, ribs, turkey and three sides (we got brisket beans, elotes and potato salad). I just got my braces tightened the day before and could not chew anything. But, all of the BBQ literally melted in your mouth, it was so soft!!! All of the sides were also delicious! This is by far the best BBQ my family and I have ever eaten!!! Definitely recommend!!!
Holy Smokes ! Butter's Bbq is Amazing. We had such a feast . Tried the Pork Belly and it just melted in our mouths. Brisket was pure perfection. Pork ribs are very tasty. Tater tot casserole was scrumptious. Banana pudding is a must try too. Free cooler of beer on Saturday's. We cannot wait to go back !
Absolutely delicious! Wow! Get there early because they sell out fast. Free Beer Saturdays! The moist brisket is simply amazing! The corn is perfect and the ribs are spot on! The sides are all worth the price of admission! Do the trinity plate its the perfect combo. Seats about 40 people but many customers are taking the food home. Most definitely worth the drive. Best BBQ around Corpus Area... hands down..
BBQ Woody here. Thnx for the best bbq yet i hv had in the Coast Bend..someone finally beat Silverado's. I had the 3-meat (turkey, pork ribs, and jal/chz sausage) tray. If u go to this place you hv 2 try the 'Mex Elote cream corn and their Tx beans, zesty..both..yummy. the ribs didnt need any bbq sauce. The turkey was moist and tender. The sausage was a little too soft inside for my taste, but delicious. The bbq sauce is a bit too much ketchuppy for my taste. One of my ribs the meat came rt off the bone but the other was a little tough and slightly undercooked and the meat did not come off the bone. Pork ribs shld shed the meat without having to chew it off. I will find 2 old-fashioned bottle top openers 4 u all and bring on nxt visit.
We visited Butters BBQ on a Saturday for a late lunch and ordered the "3rd Wheel" plate, which included brisket, pork spare ribs, sausage, and turkey, along with three sides: beans, potato salad, and Mexican corn. We also got two teas, one Mexican Coke, and a bag of chips. Our total came to $110, including a 3% credit card fee. Presentation & Meats Everything was plated beautifully and looked appetizing; portion sizes were large for us (two adults, one child, one toddler). The brisket was sliced top-to-bottom into thick slabs, which some people may love. Personally, I prefer the lean and marbled sections sliced with more precision. The bark was seasoned well but had gone soft by the time we ate, which makes sense for a late lunch. The sausage had good flavor, though the casing was a bit tough and had lost some of its snap. The ribs were the standout—fall-off-the-bone tender and still moist. We ended up with the last of the turkey, which was noticeably dried out but again, understandable given the time of day. Sides & Extras The sides were excellent. The beans were packed with flavor, although a little heavy on the pepper. The potato salad was a near-perfect mustard-based version with a nice balance of creaminess and tang. I appreciated that they left some potato skin in the mix, even though I know that’s not for everyone. The Mexican corn was great—at least the bites that didn’t have fresh cilantro, which I tend to avoid. Trimmings included a tangy BBQ sauce that reminded me of A1 in its acidity, along with what appear to be homemade dill pickles and pink pickled onions. All were solid complements. Drinks & Atmosphere My unsweet tea was fresh and tasted clean. At $3.50, you get one free refill. Seating is limited, but it seemed like most customers were ordering to-go. The space felt casual and comfortable. Service was friendly and efficient. Final Thoughts Butters BBQ is a Texas Monthly Top 50 joint, and I can see why. They do the basics well, and their sides are a strong highlight. That said, aside from the pork ribs and sides, most of the meats tasted like standard Texas BBQ—solid, but not groundbreaking. I’d happily eat here again if I’m in Sinton, but I wouldn’t go too far out of my way to make a special trip just for Butters.
Came for Fathers day meal. My wife and I are knocking out the TM top 50 bbq spots, and this was our first stop. Got there at 1030 from Corpus Christi. Tried to order a dino rib but was told they had none available since people ordering togo had taken them all. Apparently there is a call and hold system we weren't aware of. Lady running the sides was not very friendly and had a unpleasant demeanor. Anyways, we got the 4 meat family meal, barbacoa, and a ribeye steak special for about 140. The food was good but not special. The meats were cooked fine but not very flavorful. Sausage was on the dry side. The best item were the ribs, very good flavor and had a great bite. The ribeye was highway robbery. Not worth $38. The sides had great presentation but not much flavor. I would not make the drive to eat there again unless my family in Corpus wanted to go. My sister loves this place. Dropping one star due to customer service was lacking and togo orders taking priority over dine in. Dropping another star over overpriced bbq.
