The food was excellent and the vanilla custard pie was delicious. You do need a reservation. Our server was nice, however, it was disappointing that when ordering one of their specialty drinks we asked to simply substitute ginger ale for ginger beer (not a ginger beer fan). The server said no, nothing could be changed. A bit disappointed and really started the meal on a negative tone. While they kept checking in, the coat check was nice, it left us feeling that customer service was a bit of a let down especially for the cost of dinner and drinks.
Delicious!!! We loved the atmosphere with the open kitchen, nice music and great service. We were in and out within an hour with drinks, apps, entrees and a dessert! Our server Kendall was fantastic! Our toddler has an egg allergy, and she does as well so she was super accommodating to him and was very informative on what he could and couldn’t have before it was brought to the table. Our picky toddler ate his entire wagyu beef hot dog! We would definitely return if we’re back in the area!
Stopped in for lunch while visiting Vail Village for the afternoon and totally worth it. Slight wait to be seated as only 2 waiters today, but they did great. Mu husband and I started with the warm pimento cheese and pepper jam and toasted bread and a country ham bisquit for each of us. Both were fabulous. We split the grilled crab and cheese sandwich and soup and ordered an extra bowl of soup. The cheese was a perfect contrast to the crab on the sandwich and the porky tomato soup was great too. We left pleasantly full and very happy with our meal.
Mountain Standard is a standout in Vail for both lunch and dinner, with service that feels genuinely welcoming, attentive, and well paced. The kitchen clearly takes pride in ingredient quality and execution. The food is fresh, deeply flavorful, and built around combinations that feel creative and intentional, not trendy for the sake of it. It is absolutely a chef driven restaurant. I started with the octopus appetizer. The octopus itself was cooked perfectly, tender with the right bite, and the overall flavor profile was delicious. The only element that felt unnecessary to me was the black beans. They distracted from the dish rather than adding anything essential, so I removed them. Aside from that, it was excellent, and the avocado slices added a great creamy texture that worked beautifully with the octopus. For my main, I had the burger, and it was exactly what you want from a place like this: very fresh, high quality ingredients, and meat cooked perfectly. It is the kind of burger that feels elevated without trying too hard. Overall, Mountain Standard delivers a polished, thoughtful dining experience whether you come for lunch or dinner, with creative food, strong technique, and genuinely great service.
This place was insane! The cocktails and food were incredible. Amazing experience. Our bartender/waiter Sparrow was a true homie and guided us through all the best choices. He made our night even more special.
One of the best in the village and also one of the most reserved by people. Food is very seasoned in general, but good.
I absolutely love Vail — and Mountain Standard made me love it even more! The Prime Beef Carpaccio was next-level delicious, and honestly, everything we ordered was incredible. Even without a reservation, the staff went above and beyond to fit us in — true hospitality at its best. I highly recommend making a reservation though, because this place fills up fast (and for good reason!). It was hands down one of our best meals in Vail Village. Do yourself a favor and eat here — you’ll thank me later! My photo doesn’t even begin to do this appetizer justice!
just finished our first meal at Mountain Standard, 10/10! The ambiance and elevated cozy ski lodge atmosphere set the tone for an incredible delicious dinner. Every dish ordered was packed with flavor, thoughtfully presented and fresh as could be. Our server Emily was wonderfully attentive as well as an excellent guide in navigating the menu. Tahini dip, wedge salad, piri piri chicken and the rainbow trout were all delightful!
If you are in vail village, you should try out this place. Highly recommend to get trout potato fritters, piri piri chicken (only if you can handle spicy) and pork shank with mashed potatoes. We didn’t try dessert.
Octopus appetizer dish is a must try. Overall the dishes we got including burger and halibut were are incredible and had so much flavors. One of the best restaurants in Vail.
Service was awesome, great staff recommendations. The bone in pork dish was our favorite, but everything was delicious! Cocktails were perfect, good selection of spirits. The old fashioned with their restaurant selected Elijah Craig bourbon was the best I’ve had in my memory! Wonderful indoor and outdoor space. Will definitely come back next time we’re back in town!
I am not sure where these bad reviews come from because we had a fabulous meal and experience. We got the clam chowder, my husband wanted to lick the bowl. I got the wedge salad, it was perfect. It was crunchy and fresh with chunks of blue cheese and a very refreshing dressing. He got the tri tip with potatoe au gratin which was cooked to perfection. I had the cobia which was light and delicious. We finished the meal with the snickers bar which was plenty to share. We even enjoyed 2 draft selections. I had the citrus wheat, and he had the red ale. The staff was attentive and lovely, even wishing us a happy anniversary and delivering a card to the table. The patio seating was refreshing near the stream with over head heating.
Although the menu changes, based off the food we had it was great and you won’t regret going here. Things we got that seem to be on the menu normally was the clam chowdah and cobia (not pictured). We also got the warm carrot salad and duck fried rice (still one of the best meals I’ve ever had).
Excellent service, all the front of house team are professional and helpful. Modern, well-executed dishes, with lots of different choices. The warm pimento cheese is excellent, and the pickled celery garnish almost steals the show. The chicharonnes are a great choice to go with drinks. The specialty cocktails are very good as well. The menu changes frequently but everything I've had has been great.
Accepted walk-ins at 5pm was handy option. Be prepared to stand around a bit while tables are being allocated. Overall delicious food and very well presented. Our favourite dish was the bone marrow and the biscuits. Appreciated not being rushed.
Mountain Standard made our wedding night dinner celebration an experience to remember! The food was all incredible. Highly recommend the wedge salad, pimento cheese appetizer, pork shank, and stuffed shells. Service was wonderful! Loved the open kitchen and cozy mountain vibes. We will definitely be back!
We just had our 38th anniversary dinner this evening and everything couldn’t have been more perfect! The appetizers of scallops and the best ever wedge salad were unforgettable. The Cobia fish was incredible and our server Cam was the best! Mountain Standards GM Katie came out wished us a Happy Anniversary and comped us the most decadent “snickers bar” desert we have ever had! We will return for their awesome burger and pimento cheese only offered at lunch in the next few days!! What a great night and great service and food we experienced again at “Mountain Standard”. You don’t want to miss this experience while in Vail.
Nestled in Vail, Mountain Standard epitomizes cozy upscale dining with its inviting ambiance and delectable offerings. Despite not having reservations for our party of seven on a bustling Saturday afternoon, we were promptly accommodated, and the service was impressively quick. The restaurant boasts a wide variety of drinks and a menu that caters to diverse tastes. Our culinary journey included the hot chicken, which left a satisfying impression, complemented by delightful biscuits. However, the true standout was the butternut squash babaganoush, a flavor sensation that transported our taste buds.As expected in a tourist town like Vail, prices at Mountain Standard lean towards the higher end. However, the exceptional quality of the food and the overall dining experience justify the premium.
Took 2 families here for dinner. Most of the food was very good especially the trout dish. However, my daughter’s steak was disappointing. She’s a meat lover and told me it was not good. Our server, Sophie, was excellent and we left her a 30% tip. The rotating hazy ipa I had was so delicious.
We were able to get in for a party of 2 at 5pm without a reservation, although I recommend making a reservation (they typically book out of reservations as soon as they come online 30 days ahead of time). The restaurant is dim light, lively, and bustling. We were seated next to the window overlooking the creek running through Vail Village. Our server was very social and attentive, striking up conversation while continually checking on our table. * Unpearable: The best pear drink we've had, wow this was so good, cannot say it enough, have to try it! Light, refreshing, a little tart, a little sweet, peary, perfect! * Grilled Sea Scallops: Can't describe the flavors, but it was comforting and sophisticated. Our favorite dish, and the sea scallops were cooked perfectly. * Pork Cheek Poutine: Not your typical poutine, this tastes much better! The potato is more of a hash brown at the base, with pork, cheese curds, and the sauce cooked on top. The hash brown was crispy, and better than any poutine I've had in Canada! * Kampachi Crudo: The fish tasted fresh, there was no fishy, salty taste to it. The flavors complemented it nicely, with a little bit of citrus too. * Rotisserie Chicken Salad: Delicious! They load it with chicken that is flavorful and juicy. Seriously, they don't skimp on the chicken in this dish. The dressing is less fishy than a Caesar salad, and the ingredients complement one another. * Glazed Mahi Mahi: It was good, but compared to other dishes our least favorite. It was missing a crisp to the cooked fish, but the sushi rice tots were crispy, warm, soft on the inside, and some of the best we've had. * 'Standard' Slice of Blueberry Pie: Anything but standard, the best slice I've ever had! Small wild berries, and it's not overly sweet, and kinda light. I would have ordered 10 of these. Ruined blueberry pie for me. * Snickers Ice Cream Bar: Get the blueberry pie. Normally a chocolate guy, and nothing wrong with it, but it's about what you'd expect, and the pie is better in my opinion. Overall, the food, service, and setting was amazing! A great experience and we will be back if we're in Vail again.
I think I will spend weeks dreaming of the food here! The chefs are creative with the dishes in the best way. My mother and I split the spinach and artichoke dip, which was light but still creamy. The hot trout was excellent (we loved the yogurt dill ranch and the accompanying cornbread is the best I’ve ever had!) and the tiramisu dessert was a perfect way to end the meal. Our server was great and the hostess was so pleasant with us and despite it being a Friday night and very busy, they were able to accommodate us right away. I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant!
Great food. Good atmosphere. Ok service. Our waiter wasn't the best, but others there were great. So I'm not going to subtract for that, he was probably just having a bad day. The selection of food is good. They have some things on the menu that are really hard to find, like bone marrow. I also had the chicken salad, it was really good and filling. It even had granola on it, which I would never think of putting on a salad, and have never had on a salad before. It worked very well, and tied all the flavors together.
We had a fabulous dining experience at Mountain Standard. An experiences that we will talk about for years to come. The menu is creative and they easily accommodated our gluten restrictions. We ordered the Iberian Duroc Pork Rack … which is served family style and can easily feed three people. The blue corn hushpuppies were amazing! And the apricot mostada complimented the pork beautifully. We also shared the Rotisserie Jerk Chicken. Everything was delicious! Unfortunately the roasted yams were not gluten free. Highly recommend!
Two things you should know and it will save you lot of hassle, time, and money. #1. Call the restaurant, choose option 1 for information regarding parking and restaurant location. If you never been there before, you will have a very hard time finding it. Also, without listen to the parking instructions, you might park at the first place you see the parking sign and it will cost you $55 for 2-3 hours instead of being free. #2. Make a reservation. Food was fantastic and it was expensive. We ordered The Corned Pork Shank and Smoked Short Rib. Both meat were very tender. Cocktails were nice and strong. The Smoked Short Rib Empanada was very small and I did not taste the short rib. The Standard Wedge Salad was very good, big enough to share.
We came away from a Christmas dinner here truly wowed. The friendly server named Jamoy took us through the menu with care, providing his recommendations. We started the evening with cocktails, well-balanced and refined. The biscuit was as hands down one of the best things I’ve ever tasted! The pimento cheese was savoury and delicious. The tuna tataki was fresh and delicate. And the wood grilled pork chop was nothing short of a piece de resistance! This menu was inventive beyond expectation. The melange of flavours put this place near the top of the heap in all of Colorado, in my humble opinion. I can’t wait to come back. Gratitude to the chef, servers, and other staff who made this such a delightful experience.
Had such an amazing dinner here. Food was 100% on point. For apps, we had grilled octopus and a pimento cheese with a bacon jam. Dinner consisted of: Braised beef cheek, trout, hanger steak, and the pork shank. Everything was out of this world.
serves a great lunch with a fun atmosphere and an amazing patio looking right out to the creek. The warm pimento cheese dip is the best dip I have ever had, the pickled celery that they served with it complimented the cheese dip perfectly. I also ordered the ahi tuna crudo. The tuna was very fresh and the pineapple went perfectly with the tuna! This was the best lunch I’ve had at 8,000 feet!
We had a late lunch here and had such a good time. Would not get the oysters shooters again since we did not expect it to be a mojito shot with oyster inside, so that’s on us. But omg, the scallops tasted AMAZING and FRESH! The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. And the dessert we had was the perfect ending for our little lunch. Who would have thought we could have such delicious scallops here! I was blown away. Will definitely come back!!!
Had a DELICIOUS dinner here. The octopus appetizer was yummy. It came with garnishes that provided a nice balance to the sauce. I had never had lamb before and our waitress convinced me to try it. She even assured me that if I didn't like it, they would help get me something I would like. It was PHENOMENAL. It was cooked perfectly, had nice seasoning and had a great side of sweet peppers. The Rocky Mountain trout had a delicious sauce and was complimented by the mushrooms and dried veggies. Overall the service was great and all the dishes I tasted were delicious. My group got to sit in the outdoor section which had a nice view of the creek. I would definitely return to try other things.
I had one of the best dinners tonight at Mountain Standard. I have been here 4 times and it never disappoints. Cameron was our server and was amazing. We had perfect dirty martinis 🍸 followed by the rotisserie chicken salad & trout. Food and drinks were perfect. The trout was the best thing I have eaten in a long time. We also had the snickers bar for desert. 10/10
We really enjoyed our food here. It is the perfect spot for an elevated lunch. The steelhead crudo appetizer was top notch and the chicken sandwich had the perfect amount of spice.
Love this place! Excellent menu and wine menu. Keith took exceptional care of us during our visit. I highly recommend the Hanger Steak and bone marrow. Can be very busy, so make a reservation in advance. Highly recommend.
We came back a second night in a row. Food was amazing. We wanted to try more dishes. Also we had a great time sitting at the bar both nights with our bartender Zach aka Sparrow. He had great recommendations and was a pleasure to speak to. Great vibes in the place.
The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were exceptional. We started off with the Tahini dip and the bbq shrimp. Both were overflowing with flavor. The main entree was the piri spicy chicken and it was also delicious. We loved this establishment and it is located in a beautiful area of Vail. If I must have a "con" about this restaurant, it would be the lighting was a little dark and that's being a little picky.
We had a really great experience here. We ordered the peri-peri rosetta chicken and clearly mentioned no pork. What really stood out was how seriously they took this. A staff member personally came to us to explain that the potatoes are usually fried in oil used for pork and asked if we were okay with that. When we said no, they immediately arranged smashed potatoes instead. The food itself was super delicious, the roasted chicken was perfectly cooked, the shrimps were amazing, and honestly, everything we ordered tasted great. You could truly tell that a lot of care and attention went into both the food and the service. Multiple staff members checked on us throughout the meal to make sure everything was okay, which made us feel very comfortable and well taken care of. It truly felt like money well spent. The restaurant felt so lively and warm, and the outdoor decor with the lights and greenery was super super amazing.
We had such a great experience sitting at the bar. The bartender was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain each dish to us, which made ordering so enjoyable. He checked in on us throughout the meal and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was excellent, but what truly stood out was the atmosphere and customer service. You could tell the staff genuinely cares about the customers. As we were leaving, the manager actually ran outside to thank us for mentioning how great the service and atmosphere was. He told us how much it meant to him, which really says a lot. We left feeling appreciated and already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend.
Still befuddled by this experience. The food is some of the best we ate while in Vail. But the service was absolutely the worst. We stood/waited 5 minutes at the hostess stand before having our reservation acknowledged and being seated. And then waited another 5-10 minutes at our booth before a waitress came over to acknowledge, oops. ‘I just learned you were my table.’ Her indifference spanned the meal; my impression was that this was the ‘hot’ restaurant in Vail and we should feel lucky to be there. Wish the kitchen surcharge (3%) and tip was doled out in reverse because the food was fantastic. We will remember both the grilled octopus and pork shank for a long time as stand-out dishes. And the cocktail I had, combining mezcal and yellow chartreuse was a creative winner. Still, for the price I will give pause before returning or trying the sister property Sweet Basil because it felt odd having the experience tainted by being poorly executed full service.
Quite the busy and popular restaurant, with dishes that do not disappoint. Mountain Standard has many fusion dishes with a Korean dish (the first photo) that I would recommend every table order and eat. Unfortunately, I do not remember the names of the dishes but I would tell you to order them all!!! I will say though, that the staff were BUSY with our waitress being so busy she forgot our drinks. It was an honest mistake but not getting a single drink before finishing our dinner was quite annoying. Luckily, the manager was more than accommodating and made our nice all the better. Despite some bumps, I would definitely come back to this restaurant to try the rest of the menu!
I came here for dinner while staying in Vail to enjoy hiking for the summer. We were seated outside on the patio and the view of the river was beautiful! They had an interesting menu with good options and decent pricing. I will say that there aren't many vegetables on the menu (no sides) so something to keep in mind if you're trying to be veggie focused. I will say that the service to our table in particular was slow when the tables around us seemed to be getting attention. However I know they were busy so perhaps we were just being given time. The food was really good and I'd recommend a stop in.
Update- We stopped by for Sunday lunch and it was great. The pimento cheese is still very good. The shortrib is three large greens leafs with shortrib filling, delicious. The pork belly pasta dish is fantastic, but don't be confused on the website photo it's not the same dish. Drinks are well made and balanced. We ate dinner on Saturday night, the restaurant was closed until 745pm for a private party and they took walk-ins after that. We showed up at 7pm and waited for the party to end and the restaurant to open up. There was no wait list which was disappointing since the group grew as we got closer to 745 and several groups walked in and we're sat ahead of all the groups that were waiting for more than 30 minutes. We ordered the warm pimento cheese to start, which comes with pickled celery. The bread and pimento cheese were great but the pickled celery stole the show! Amazing! For mains we ordered the pork shank and hanger steak. The pork shank was perfect and delicious. The hanger steak was perfectly cooked medium rare. The side of grilled Tuscan kale was WAY too smoky flavored, like inedible smoke level, back of my throat burned. Overall it was a good experience not great, food was solid outside of the side dish.
Very nice restaurant and food was excellent. If your look at their menu closely on reviews you would come to know some items are seasonal. Like the Israel charred tomatoes spread we had was out of this world with the flavour. And the cilantro tacos to go with it was so tasty.
We tried the burger and the chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich was decent, but the burger was overcooked and had a slightly burned smell, which was a letdown. It felt like they might’ve rushed it since the place was busy. Overall, it wasn’t terrible, but it could definitely be better with a bit more care on the grill.
I ordered the Wood Fired Pork Chop. It was a little fatty for ME but overall great atmosphere/ experience. The restaurant was highly recommended but the food options wasn’t broad enough for me. I don’t regret going just wouldn’t be an option next time I’m in town.
I came here with my sister, who is plant based. They were very accommodating and kind. The food though was just average. I ordered the special fish of the day, which was salmon and it was cooked quite well, but nothing really stood out from the plate. One starter was really good and the other was quite bland. The service was good. I’ve been here a few years ago and feel the menu and service were better.
We didn’t love our food as much as other places but our server was very nice and tried her best to accommodate us. My husband had the hanger steak and it was very tough. I had the chicken and really enjoyed it but the spices ended up hurting my stomach. It was extremely hot in the restaurant and loud and crowded. We will try again next visit.
Ambiance - very loud…we could barely hear our server. It felt like she was yelling in order to speak to us. Food — Unfortunately, there was a big piece of hair in our pimento cheese appetizer. While they did bring us a new one, we were shocked that they did not take if off our bill. The pimento cheese was also lacking some smokiness or heat of some sort. The bacon needs to be spiced or something. It does not add much by itself. The other appetizers we ordered were the ahi tuna and simple salad. The salad was nothing special but be aware the tuna is very spicy and the portion size is not worth $26. Entrees — Short Rib was full of flavor and the rice was a perfect side…..Pork Shank was tender slaw side was cool and refreshing as the pork can be rich…..Chicken was juicy and had a nice char, but the sides were a miss match. The hash was so hard, you could not eat it and the colby fondue was such an odd texture and did not go well with the dish…….Lobster & Tiger prawns was not at all as described. You only get a lobster claw, the lobster shell is filled with the stuffing that has no lobster in it. The prawns were quite lovely. Drinks — quite good, but the bar was backed up and took quite some time to get them Other — the menu on their website has not been updated. We were disappointed as there were a few items we were hoping to try that were no longer on the menu
We had a very disappointing experience today for a late lunch at your restaurant. We have been to Vail many times and dined at numerous restaurants, and this was by far the biggest let down. Our server Emily/table 104 was inattentive and very passive aggressive. We waited an extremely long time-near an hour from the time we arrived to get our main course. One member of our party ordered steak and was not given a steak knife. Despite asking for one, after waiting 5 minutes, he finally got up to get one himself. Sadly one member of our party was given the incorrect entree, a pâté, when she had ordered a tartar. The rest of us were eating for more than 10 minutes and she was left waiting. Our server failed to offer an apology or any empathy. When the bill came Emily had not comped her entree. I had to ask for the bill to be adjusted. In addition, the onion rings were very spicy and I was unable to eat them. The menu did not specify they were spicy and Emily failed to inform us of this. Again, no apology or accountability. All of your servers seemed very somber/like they do not enjoy their work or interacting with customers. 🥲
We were excited to go to Mountain Standard but were disappointed with the food. Two in our party got the shrimp creole appetizer and were surprised that it came unshelled. It was smothered in sauce and when they bit in to the shrimp were shocked it wasn't shelled. We've had shrimp all over the country and never have been served shrimp that wasn't already shelled. The hanger steak was ok and the grilled Cobia was good but the portion was very small. We had the octopus appetizer and it was excellent. The drinks were fantastic. The people were very nice and the service was excellent.
To say we were disappointed is an understatement. We came to this establishment on a recommendation. The pimento cheese appetizer was just OK. We ordered the burger after the waiter recommended it. The burger looked promising until we cut into it. It was blue to rare in temp. I attempted to eat my 1/2 but my husband couldn't on his 1/2. We did bring the temperature of the meat to the waiter's attention for nothing to be done. We paid $100 for an inedible burger, OK appetizer and 2 teas that were never refilled. I'd save your time and money and go elsewhere.
Was so excited to come back here with my whole family,. Wanted to reserve a table for 12 for dinner. Was told I needed to do a mini party contract with a food and beverage minimum of $2500! That's over $200 per person!!! Not even in a private room, just in the common are with the privilege of pushing a couple tables together so 12 of us can eat "in the same area and at the same time." Wow. No thanks, we'll go elsewhere. Edit Nov 20- Adding to my review in response to the restaurants reply. This was not a holiday weekend request and we were open to any time for seating. This request for the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving. I emailed last week because the restaurant was closed until the 20th and not answering the phone. and one offered alternatives or a willingness to work with me. I was sent a very long and detailed email stating the Mini Party Contract was the only way to accommodate any party larger that 8 people at Any Time. Please be honest.
