Wonderful place to eat, friendly staff and good cooks! It's the main place to eat in town and it's a Van Tx original! I highly recommend this place! Their Burger's are huge and fill you up (or you take some home.)

Excellent food of all types, but I strongly recommend the fried catfish and be sure to have them cut the fillets into strips. This makes it much more crispy. Side items are good...pretty much home-made like everything on the menu. Oh - and don't forget the jalapeno tarter sauce with your catfish. Not hot, just warm and flavorful.

We had the opportunity to have a great meal at the Dinner Bell, we chose, Cheese burger, chicken fried steak, and fried catfish. What a treat, everything was really good. Service was great, our waitress was very busy, but we were served with great care. Thanks Dinner Bell!

What an awesome little place to eat! We went during the Christmas holiday and man am I glad that this place could care less about masks during this Covid mess; no social distancing required here ;). I have always loved this place. The food is excellent, service is always hospitable, and the environment is welcoming despite the small space. That is what makes it feel special. Also their seasonal decorations are really fun!

Make sure to try "Jason's Hash." Service is great. I gave a 3 for the atmosphere because it is a smaller place, and when it is busy, it gets a little loud. Overall, it is well worth the stop.

This place is great!! We went Sunday after church. They were busy, but there was no wait. The food was excellent. I got the Dinner Bell Deluxe and could only finish half of it, but it was one of the best burgers that I have had in a while. The bun makes it. We will definitely be coming back soon!!

Came in for dinner one night and it was nice and cozy. It is a smaller restaurant but gives more of the at home feeling than most. I had catfish and it was very good along with the sides. Our waitress was friendly and informative, making it a great experience. Prices were about average for a catfish dinner but it is cooked to order so freshness triumphed over other places.

The food and service here were absolutely amazing, but if you are a larger person or disabled, use the restroom before you go! I had fried catfish. It was perfectly fried. I dipped it in their jalapeno tarter sauce which was not hot and seriously the best tarter sauce I've ever had. I had their chocolate cake for dessert. It was also amazing!!! I wasn't from there and was in a school bus (dropped kids and went for lunch). I had a place to park and no one complained about the size of vehicle. I needed directions and the waitress was super sweet and told me how to get to my destination without acting like I was holding her up. Absolutely amazing place and I will definitely be back. We live about an hour away and told my family we would be visiting in the future!

A touch far for me, I live in Canton, but worth the trip. Ham and eggs with biscuit and grits. Ham was an actual slice of ham and very tasty. Biscuit was delicious and the grits were some of the best ever. Service was polite and quick. I highly recommend this establishment

Working in Van TX when we found Dinner Bell. Good food and service. I had the Beef Philly and Hubby had the Hamburger Steak. Cozy hometown atmosphere.

The portions were large, and the food was fantastic. The waitress checked on us often and kept any glasses full. Pancakes were large, and bacon was thicker cut and crispy. My son tried their gravy with his biscuit for the first time and loved it. Would visit again if in the area.

We loved the casual atmosphere. We had the fried fish with awesome. coleslaw was so good!! The lady that was in charge of our table was amazing! Smiled the whole time!! I chose coconut cream pie. with a homemade crust! Not one negative comment!!

We were staying in the area for a weekend get away. This place was recommended to us. We called in our order ahead of time. The order was correct and on time. We took the food back with us. It was good and we enjoyed it. I had the patty melt w/ tator tots. My wife had the chicken fried chicken w/ baked potato and salad. We also orders the hot fudge cake with vanilla ice cream. I went inside and the place is small and done in was available. Because of the size you may want to go early for dine in or you may have to wait at lunch and dinner. Oh they also serve breakfast.

Great family owned restaurant! I love the mom and pop feel along with the community of Van. At Christmas they decorate like no other with lights, and a theme and it's so fun!

I ate the 3 piece fish platter today and they ask me. If I wanted them To slice them in half and a 3 piece turned into 9 pieces of fish. When the plate got there, I had a plate full of fish. And French fries, hush puppies and coleslaw. So good. I wanted to lick the plate. LOL. Slicing them felays in have made it the perfect fish crust ratio. Definitely recommend the dinner, bell It's been there for years and the food is always been good.

I moved to Van in 2017 and wanted to find the best greasy spoon. I arrived at Dinner Bell and sure enough, it was everything I was looking for! Best burger in Van and it’s incredibly affordable. They also have outstanding breakfast and serve the pancakes for kids in animal shapes. My little man LOVED that key aspect! Haha!

The Dinner Bell has been one of our hometown favorites for many years. We moved away from the area for almost a decade, but now that we're back, it's comforting to know that The Dinner Bell still serves the old tried and true items on the menu. If you stay there long enough, you'll probably eventually see most of the people you know in Van and the surrounding area, because it's a gathering place. They also named an item on the menu for a friend of ours who was a regular and who always asked for a specific breakfast dish that he "created"—and they always made for him. "Jason's Hash" is delicious and a lot of food—so either plan to take some home or share with someone. And our kids loved the "Hubcap Burger" that is as big as a dinner plate, because we could split it 4 ways and everyone had plenty. Another really great and unique thing about The Dinner Bell is the Christmas decorations. Every year the employees stay up most of the night decorating the whole place, inside and out, with a different theme each year. It's a treat to go and see all the work they do and what creative display they choose. One year, when 101 Dalmatians was back in theaters, the restaurant (in and out) was filled with wooden cut out Dalmatians. It was such a fun place to have a meal!

Excellent Place to stop for great food and great service. We were passing through on the way to Oklahoma, everything was so good we stopped for lunch on the way back home. If you visit during the right time of year, the fresh sliced tomatoes are like no other, hands down the best tomatoes you will ever have. Wonderful Staff

Down home cooking and reasonable prices. We always search out the mom and pop, family owned businesses! 10 months out of the year, they are all wood panel walls. But in November and December, they are decked out with a different Christmas theme each year!

This was a lovely little place with AMAZING food and service. The prices were reasonable as well. The only downside was the super small dining area and the women's restroom was so small I had to sit sideways on the toilet. My foot barely fit between the toilet and the wall. I still want to take my family there and go back myself over and over because the food and service are worth the sacrifice!

Just ate here for breakfast on Mother’s Day. The Jason’s Hash was amazing. Highly recommend this place. The folks treat you well and the food is good. Not to mention, they gave my wife a little gift for Mother’s Day!

Home of the famous hubcap burger. Nearly impossible to eat the whole thing. I had 2 UPS drivers placing bets on whether I could eat it all or not. I was down to the last bite and absolutely could not eat another bite. Sorry to the fella that lost the bet, I tried...lol...great food, great friendly service, and great atmosphere! They always have a great display of whatever holiday is coming up as well. I eat there at every opportunity I get.

Went and had breakfast here today and it was amazing. We moved from dallas and have been trying to find a good breakfast place and we finally have. The food was hot and delicious when we got it. The service was very good. The only issue I had was the carpet in the restaurant I think that's kinda gross just because people drop food and I just feel like it's not super sanitary having carpet in the dining room but other than that is was very good. We will definitely be back for sure. Thank yall so much for the great food and service.

Wonderful food and great service at an amazing price! We had a party of two adults and three kiddos. I ordered the yummy Patty melt with a side salad. Y’all, their ranch is amazing and homemade. My mom ordered the meat omelette with hash-browns. She loved it and my 19 month old son ate half of it. My daughter ordered the 2 pancake with bacon meal and loved it. My son ordered the waffle. And of everything we received, that was our least favorite. It just wasn’t fluffy or crisp. Our lovely waitress told us the biscuits are homemade and fresh, so we started with two orders of biscuits with a side of gravy. Fabulous! So fluffy and delicious! I also ordered the broccoli & cheddar soup. It was yummy! All together we spent under $50 for all that food. What a steal! Highly recommend y’all!! Can’t wait to go back! Ps. Take cash, as there is a 3.99% credit card fee.

Old city of Van Texas. This place is legit. The patty melt was delicious. Their ranch dressing, homemade, addictive. The place is properly old and you can feel it. The ceiling lights, I couldn't stop staring at them. You go back in time a little bit, more so if you let yourself. Amazing food, amazing service, amazing atmosphere and can't beat the city.

Came her for take-out yesterday after hearing great things. We got a variety of food to try. The burger was big and delicious and wrapped up like the old fashioned ones. I wasn't a fan of the big style of fries they use but they were hot and we ate them all. The sour cream chicken enchilada was delicious! Grits could have used more cheese but everything can use more cheese. But they were cooked perfect! Lastly was the fried catfish. They offered jalapeno and regular tarter sauce. Will definitely come back when we can eat inside. Looking forward to the holidays when we have heard they go all out with lights!

We have eaten there twice since we've been in Lindale on vacation and each time the food was delicious and a great value and the service was very very friendly. We are going back tomorrow before we leave to head home from our vacation to pick up a lemon pie and eat some catfish. Highly recommend the Dinner Bell in Van, Texas if you're ever in this neck of the woods.

Everything about the Dinner Bell was great except for the bathrooms. They are very small and difficult to get in and out of... especially if a walker or wheelchair is used.

I had a 1/3 lb cheeseburger my husband had the Mexican burger. They were both great. Tea was fresh. The other foods we saw carried out were well proportioned and the folks all commented on how good it was. We will be back.

This is the restaurant that time forgot. We used to be out in the area a few times a year going to Teen Mania when that was a thing. This place is EXACTLY what it was 10 years ago. Food is not great but the service is still outstanding! They treat everyone like friends!

The breakfast is superb! The customer service was lacking. Floors are yucky. Don’t ask for a shape pancake, because they’ll tell your 4yr old that she can have one & then a meltdown will come when she’s doesn’t get it. They were so good that she still ate it though lol

It didn't take too long for het out food, but the waitress was nice. I ordered a side of cornbread with my meal and once the food came they gave me a roll, but they kindly gave me cornbread. I went here with my grandma, and she asked for A1 cause, but she never ended up getting it. The waitress never asked us if we were good and all set. It's oddly quiet, and small inside. Though they have speakers, they don't play music. There was three waiters, but by the time we were done the other 2 waiters disappeared into the back, even though they are busy. Also we asked for Lemons with our water but they gave us small packs. They didn't refill anything. But over all the food is amazing, but better service is needed.

I highly recommend their breakfasts. Breakfast dishes are actually amazing. But lunch and dinner are just ok, not bad. I've been here dozens of times and they're consistent. Lunch and dinner are ... not bad... The quesadilla is tiny, extremely small, but delicious. Their enchiladas are mediocre, I'd try something else. The Spanish rice needs reworking. Manager: please try something else different recipes for Spanish rice. The rice is actually not good, I couldn't finish it. Their beans are good, yes. The tortilla chips? Bad! What's up with those? Really, find a different brand, a different supplier. The chips are almost inedible (unless you're starving on a desert island). So... to summarize: Dinner Bell is ok, not good not bad. I'll definitely go for breakfast but probably not anything else, we'll see.

This place took me back in time to Mamaw's house in the 80's. Customer service was phenomenal and food came out fast and was priced right too. The burger was delicious and the 8 oz chicken fried steak was perfect (top 10 in east TX) , mashed Taters were a bit thin for my liking though.

The food was good but service was very slow. Our food took forever and the waitstaff did not really even check on us or explain what was going on till we had been sitting there a long time. Drinks were not refilled till they had been sitting a while either.

Christmas decorations are adorable and great place for family pictures outside. Food was lack luster. Everything we ordered was prefrozen. We didnt have anything that was homemade as one would expect from a diner.

Man I am sooooo disappointed my family has been eating here for 20 years.. Use to be the place to go....but here lately I can watch my food sit in the window and get colder and colder by the minute. Called in a to go order tonight...husband went and picked it up we literally live on Main street 3 minutes away...fish was burned no tartar sauce tater tots with cheese were cold as heck. I didnt even bother to open up the rest of my order....I use to recommend people to go here and eat but I doubt I will anymore.

1st time there, heard it was good. To start with, ordered chicken fried chicken, it was way over cooked. I counted only 15 people in restaurant, 3 waitress, and was never offered a refill on our tea while we were there. They took the over cooked chicken fried chicken back and brought out a better one. I thought they should have taken the whole plate back and brought out a fresh plate of sides when bringing back the meat, but they didn't.. I would NOT recommend this restaurant. I would suggest going across the street to Teles Mexican restaurant. Always grt food and service

This was the dirtiest restaurant I have ever been in. There was trash under each table & it looked like when the staff cleaned the tables they just pushed all the crumbs on the floor. Didn’t stay so I don’t know if the food was good. If I was the owner, I definitely would be having a talk with my staff. Wouldn’t recommend it. I had to give at least one star in order to leave a review. I guess that star would be for the coffee. Do not go here..not worth it at all. High dollar cost, lower than low taste. Small portions for the cost. Food served cold. Tea and water had terrible taste. So cold in there, had to drink coffee. Will never go there again.

Hair in our food. Chicken fried steak so tough you could barely chew it. If you like the inside of a head of lettuce where the core is at you will probably like it. If you look into the kitchen you can see no one wearing a hair net and one girls hair in a loose pony tail and the server plays with her hair then touches your plates

Went in June. Had a hair in patty melt because the cooks DO NOT WEAR HAIR NETS. They didn't offer to refund it. Servers are sarcastic, weird, and creepy like they're silently judging. Uncomfortable atmosphere.

Have been wanting to try this place. Went in and was never greeted by one person. Standing there. Standing there. People coming in behind us. We had to ask the couple behind us do we just sit down? They said yes. No clean tables. We sat at one piled with dishes. Went to go ask if someone could clean it. The lady cleaned the table of the couple that came in after us while I am standing there to talk to her. She took their drink order. Ignored me and walked away. The older couple looked at me because they knew we had been waiting but they didn’t tell her. Someone finally took the dirty dishes, one of the waitresses, but never took a drink order. Multiple attempts were ignored. Absolutely the rudest people. We finally left. We will give our money to people that know how to treat customers. Absolutely ridiculous. The rudest people we have encountered in a very long time. We have not been treated that way anywhere else out here. Don’t waste your time.
