The best maple late & really friendly staff! We were in town for the weekend and went both days. Highly reccomend.
The review below was posted several years ago and i reposted it in error a week ago. Service has done a 180 turn for the better since since my first review. Cool and very courteous staff and music to vibe. Also still the best breakfast sandwich in town though! I do wish you'd stay open past 5pm to chill after work but I understand with limited staff and overall business demands. Love the recent renovations too!! Old review: Been a fan since day one of the downtown location. Best ever breakfast sandwich. However post covid, I noticed a rush to close up shop so early. Shutting down and flipping the chairs on top of the tables around 3:15pm sends the "get out, we are closing" message loud and clear. Totally kills the New York city cafe vibe experience Kubal once gave.
The coffee is exceptional, the people are amazing and nice, and the breakfast sandwiches are pretty dang good too!
I love the ambience here. This is one of my favorite places to hang out. The people at the register servers and even the manager were great. It is a great place to reflect and I really like their chai latte- it hits the spot everytime. It is a good warm pick me up beverage especially in the fall or even in the winter. You will love it here especially for meetings or even an afternoon date!
Espresso roast is definitely more European style. It reminded me instantly of the days I worked in a French Cafe. The tea selection deserves its own special acknowledgment. Definitely worth trying the entire selection. The coconut oolong was good. Not a combo I would have thought of. I had the turkey wrap. Very good. Staff was knowledgeable, expedient and friendly. Definitely added CK to my Coffee take-out rounds. The Sweetheart Corner location is great too. Adorable staff.
I was assigned to Syracuse for three weeks, and enjoyed every visit to Cafe Kubal. Customer Service was beyond great. Menu was a little eclectic but all items I tasted were phenomenal. Lastly I never thought I would be able to get a great cup of coffee outside of my beloved Manhattan coffee houses. I was wrong. KUDOS to Cafe Kubal you made a believer out of this downstate resident.
great coffee shop. friendly staff. and queer friendly
Staff was absolutely the kindest and gave great recommendations! Will be back again! Very welcoming and wholesome environment
Pretty cool place. Got a Breakfast sandwich. It was very good. I believe it was called the Salina. Coffee was great too.
I ordered a breakfast burrito which the TASTE was Phenomenal, however if I could suggest less egg would make it much easier to pick up and eat that would have been perfection. THANKYOU so much for such a great place for coffee and great tasting food!
This experience was absolutely amazing!! The staff and all around atmosphere was everything!! The breakfast wrap was absolutely phenomenal 100% recommend
As an espresso junkie, I can confidently recommend the espresso roast. Made a smooth, creamy latte with no need for sweeteners. You're better off supporting this local roaster than the big names found in grocery aisles or funding the Jeff Bezos Retirement Fund.
Such a great spot for coffee. We stopped in for the first time and I didn't really know what I wanted. The lovely worker made a few recommendations based on my tastes and it was so good. French toast latte is very good. The banana bread will make you feel like you just went to heaven.
First time here, decided to be adventurous and ask lovely young lady behind the counter to make me her favorite iced coffee. The coffee is amazing! Did not disappoint. Idk what it’s called but I’m getting another one before I leave. Prices are pretty good too! Friendly atmosphere!
I tried the Cinnamon Roll Late and it was just perfect. It was flavorful and paired well with my bagel.
This was the sole positive customer service experience I had during my trip to Syracuse. I ordered drinks for six people, and the girl behind the counter just took it in stride, made the orders, labeled them accurately, and did it all quickly. And the end result tasted great. Give this place your money. Sorry I don't remember your name, girl behind the counter. It was Sunday October 22. Tell your boss to give you a raise. Also the breakfast sandwich was to die for.
Went with my daughter for a soccer camp and found this place around the corner, glad I did! Employees were friendly, it was pretty busy for a Saturday afternoon and people seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere, especially outside. Best part, the coffee, nice and strong but no bitter aftertaste..bought a bag of Sumatra to go..if you're in the area, stop in..its worth it.
The food here was absolutely delicious, the freshly roasted coffee is easily some of the best in the area, and the service is some of the best you'll find in Syracuse. This team knows how to brew a cup, whether making an espresso based beverage, or making a pour over cup, everything comes out great! And their loyalty system (buy 5 bags of coffee, get 1 free!) is a fantastic system to reward loyal customers. While I am relatively new to Syracuse, I will definitely be making this place a regular stop!
Was hungry and needed a quick breakfast. So i stopped by for this juicy sandwich as you can see in the picture. There is this egg made with kale and cheese. Comes in the perfect texture. just right. I usually request for ketchup on my sandwich but with this it turns out I no longer need any. It's juicy already.
Perfect place to relax and enjoy tasty latte! Good barista! Cuisine connoisseurs - pass by🤷♂️
Absolute gem of a Cafe, baristas were very polite and service was quick. I took the recommendation of an egg and kale breakfast sandwich on a jalapeño bagel and a nitro coffee. Sandwich was extremely flavorful and not dry at all. Service animal was welcomed without question and rates the pats an impressive 15/10 though she has never been very good at math. Will return on my way back west.
Obviously ranked in the top coffee shops in Syracuse for a reason. This place quickly became a favorite after multiple visits to other places throughout the city. Their other location by the old NiMo bldg isn't as busy but just as good. I hope they keep the lavender flavor as a full-time option because it is my go-to add-in for cafe au lait. The staff is diverse and always super friendly. Also. the chocolate cookies here are some of the best I've ever had and I have to keep myself from getting them every time I go. I love this place. Great location and decor. Lots of seating options, too. Update the breakfast wrap and Brazil pour over with mocha flavor are amazeballs.
Always great drinks and food. We love their bagels and mmmm. Veggie cream cheese. The staff are always helpful with finding something to drink that I like, after explaining my awkward taste 😬
Great place to hangout. The service is fast and the crew are friendly. You can access their free wifi. Cool lounge music on the background makes it more special. The large glass windows give you outside view 😍😍😍
The café Kubla coffee is absolutely outstanding. Each cup is crafted with care rich, smooth, and full of flavor without being overpowering. My cappuccino had the silkiest foam and a beautiful design on top, while my friend’s pour-over was clean, balanced, and aromatic. It’s clear they take their coffee seriously here. The food was just as impressive. The pastries taste delicious. I highly recommend café Kubla.
Great coffee spot. I ordered a brewed coffee with mocha. They have medium and dark roast options available. This coffee spot is Perfect for a good study session. Multiple outlets and couches perfect place to meet a friend for a quick bite. Food was delicious. I had a breakfast sandwich with the daily bread. They were fast and friendly. Location was clean as well as the bathroom. WiFi available as well. Parking situation is tough because of its location. Parking is free before 9am and after 6. The local Meters at $2 an hour with a 2 hour limit.
Came looking for a good coffee but what won us over was the breakfast sandwiches. The Salina Special is in the picture and didn’t disappoint. The bagel was fresh and the maple mayo gave the perfect blend of sweet and savoury. While ingredients for the Grinder were missing so we can’t report on that the staff made an impromptu swap to load up the grilled cheese with bacon and pico de gallo on the stretch bread from Pasta Daily was a perfect combo. Will be back.
Hands down the best coffee shop in town! You have to try this place for breakfast and lunch. Nelson the manager stopped by our table to check on our lunch after making the best tasting cafe mocha I’ve ever had (see pic) and Im a huge coffee snob. I had the half of upstate grinder absolutely delicious try it yourself! My friend had the breakfast wrap and was pleasantly surprised by the size and fresh ingredients. This place is a hidden gem, stop in when you’re downtown, 401 South Salina on the corner of Jefferson.
Café Kubal is an amazing establishment! This location has a very hip and modern style to it. The open floor plan and tall windows allows a lot of natural light in. A window seat while you enjoy food or drink is not hard to get which is what I prefer. There are larger tables for group seating and more comfortable couches if you like that comfort level too. Today I had the pleasure of eating The Upstate Grinder which consists of : turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese, apples, & maple mayo on ciabatta bread, and oh my was it AWESOME! The cheese was melted perfectly and all the flavors combined so well. I topped it off with a 4oz Eastwood that's simply equal parts espresso and steamed milk, but with unsweetened cocoa. Wow wow was that great too! Last but not least the service. The fella and two women that work this location are spot on with your order whether they are working with just a couple orders or a long line. They held great conversation while perfecting their crafts. Love this spot and I'll always revisit. UPDATE: 10/2/24 Cafe Kubal is STILL AMAZING!!!! My Roastie sandwich with Toffee Nut Latte was A Maz Ing!!! The banana nut bread and French Toast Latte was as well!!! Well done folks. I Love You 😎
Coffee was delicious. Great place. Got a Selina special and sad to say the egg is either frozen and heated or microwaved. There was so much water in the egg the whole sandwich was wet.. it only takes 3 min to cook a fresh egg. I would suggest a fresh egg.
A reflection of true coffee shop feel that emboldens good price for a cup of "different" Java where you feel welcome to the surprise of actually having somewhere to get out of the home. Take a minute and see The World from a different point of view before stepping back out into madness...
A bit pricey ($4.50 for a medium hot tea). Baked goods were tasty. Nice furnishings.
Love Kubal coffee. We stop here anytime we’re in the area. Banana bread is awesome too.
Great atmosphere, great food, great coffee. I'll be back. Service seemed a little cold- 4 years later. But it' a different world. For someone not used to the new procedures (ordering with a touch screen) it was a little confusing. And I didn't get everything I ordered(side of chios) I feel for any service industry these days, so not a big deal. Sandwich and latte where both excellent.
The service was fast, but it was missing a smile, to be more welcoming. The food is good. The morning wrap was good. The atmosphere is great for a morning shop. The coffee was great!
First time visit while my friends and I were seeing a musical at the landmark across the street. Loved the atmosphere! Had a themed cookie and coffee pertaining to said musical. Both were delicious, cookie was a bit hard for my sensitive teeth, but still tasted good!
Nice spot right in downtown Syracuse! The breakfast sandwich was absolutely incredible along with the dark roast coffee. Prices are reasonable but we had to wait longer than usual to get our food. All in all, a really nice place!
I really enjoy kubal Salina Street This place would be better if.eaier for wheel chairs the Salina doors are usually locked for entry.
I love their breakfast sandwich and I can't complain bout da'service cause they're always greeting people when they walk through the door.
Great atmosphere and staff. I was looking forward to ordering the breakfast sandwich after being away for two years and can’t say I’d recommend it anymore after it being a previous favorite l. It was super thin. With that said it’s still an awesome coffee shop. I hope the rest of their food has held up
A nice spot located in the heart of downtown Syracuse. I stopped by for a quick coffee and was greeted by friendly staff who took the time to explain their summer specialty drinks. *Cons*: The lattes I tried didn’t quite meet expectations, and the cleanliness—particularly around the washroom area—could be improved.
Really nice shop! The interior is really nice. As others have mentioned, there is a very good amount of seating and space. A nice change from what's going on with some shops that clearly don't want people to stick around and enjoy their drinks. I've been here a number of times throughout the years, and the staff have always been very polite and friendly. No stuck up baristas here! Prices are actually very reasonable. I've noticed many shops getting outright greedy of late, but I found the prices here to be completely fair for their delicious coffee. A 12oz pour over cost me $5.13 at the time of this review. 👍 If I could offer one things to improve upon: Please(!) consider offering reusable/ceramic drink ware for customers who are staying in the shop. I think it's a shame that everything is put into a to-go cup with a plastic lid.
Recently visited for the first time- I loved the atmosphere here, but I don't recommend the matcha. It seems like they use baking matcha instead of drinking matcha, because the drink turns out kind of grainy. I was even more disappointed, because the drink turned out to be really expensive (paid 8-9$ for a small). Their baked goods look awesome though and the coffee smells great, so I'll probably visit again to try something else out!
We stopped in while traveling for a quick cup of coffee and snack to go and Google maps showed this as the closest to the route we were on. The coffee was good. We got an energy bar and that was good as well. The barista was friendly. They had some artwork from a local artist on display and for sale which was cool to see.
Not sure what happened with this company? Grew too fast? Went to multiple locations looking for Midnight Oil coffee. Each said they would have it in a couple days. Weeks passed and no coffee. Used to have delivery and that failed last two times. Now I hear they won't have that blend for months. Unfortunately, we are out.
Ethiopian pour over was weak with little flavor profile. Same with a few other drinks I’ve tried so far. This is my third time now. Overall nice place to hang out and get a coffee if your not too picky.
Disappointing after visiting the James St. location. The breakfast wrap came out cold in the center and half the size of the one I had a few days before. The cookies were over baked (maybe just a bad batch). My hot tea was served cold, but they fixed it right away. It has a different vibe, too. Not as casual and cool.
Update for reduced stars- I went to the coffee shop the other day to get a coffee and a bagel. Only to find they have gotten rid of a lot of their bagels and most of their cream cheeses. Not to mention they used to have 3-4 staff members working in the morning and nowadays there’s only 1 manning the register, drinks and food. It’s not fair to the employees to have to do everything. I’m not sure I’ll be back because of them taking the main thing I ordered off the menu. So I will admit right off the bat I do not like their coffee (I know I know- but it’s just not my favorite, I prefer some other shops to this one) HOWEVER Their pastry’s and bagels are phenomenal. I have been stopping in every morning for a bagel because of how good they are. Also the staff is INSANELY nice. This has become my morning breakfast go to!
They need a better menu instead of more locations
The girl in the store was a bit rude and unfriendly. She made my coffee, and since I was the only customer in the store, I assumed she would let me know when it was ready. Instead, she quietly put it aside without saying anything. After about 10 minutes, her coworker, who was very polite, told me that my coffee was sitting there—it was already cold by then.
I went there for a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. The first bad thing was when the associate said both sandwich I had chosen was not available, so I had to settle for a scone. The second thing, it was snowing and the store looks like a bus station, with people inside looking like homeless people or something and it smells really bad! Sorry, but that's something I don't see very often in downtown coffee shops. Although the coffee was good, I don't plan on visiting this place again.
The bagels don't taste like anything. The French toast one tastes nothing like French toast/ not sweet and the jalapeno cheddar tastes like nothing as well. On a brighter note, the service was great and I heard the classic breakfast sandwich was good.
Always like to try local places but this was a huge meh. Got off interstate to try it. (Don’t bother). Very limited choices. Got a plain croissant which was okay. Husband ordered bagel sandwich. About 7-8 minutes after I got my croissant, they said they did not have any bagels (why it took so long to realize that???). So ordered on croissant which was okay. Also my hot tea was tepid at best- how hard is a cup of hot water.
Back when it was the original shop on James street, they trained their baristas and actually had a repor with their customers. It used to feel like a gem of sophistication but now it feels like a place that hasn’t seen any real competition or love in years. Really needs to get back to basics.
Ordered the breakfast wrap with sausage. no sausage. Switched to Avocado toast. No avocado toast. Not a lovely first experience if I'm being honest. The atmosphere seems to be enjoyable tho.
Came on a Sunday morning and it was busy. However the place was very short staff and running out of everything. Not cool. However the breakfast sandwich was amazing Update. This place never have stuff you need. Plus there up charge you for everything. If you want honey in your drink? They charge you $1, 20 cents for almond milk, like damb.
This place is not for gluten free or celiac people. Until they change their business listing about being gluten free, all Kubal locations will keep messing up your Google Maps results (I have mentioned this to staff before). They only have a small basket of packaged gluten free brownies. My oat milk latte was not to my liking (it was one of the worst I’ve had and I have tried them at every coffee place in the city), but I know many other people who enjoy their coffee beverages here. The main benefit is the ambience.
Cool looking coffee house but an employee behind the coffee bar, training another, talked too much and too loud. Reverberated around entire Cafe for way too long. And delayed filling orders. Also. Coffee slightly bitter though oatmeal was smooth and delicious. I will give it one more try next time I'm in town as atmosphere and location is great.
Most expensive coffee in the area. Quality is similar if not slightly less than competitive coffee vendors. A small flavored latte will cost you $7.80. Again, quality is not terrible but just head down the street to Salt City and order coffee there. Salt City has better quality coffee/syrups and the price is much more reasonable.
To expensive and coffee was weak and watery. Too many flies and I will not be going back here
The barista working the register on Wed 6/25/25 at 10am was loudly making fun of customers while in the cafe. I came in with a group of coworkers to order drinks for the office. I was speaking with one of my coworkers about kayaking and I miss pronounced Oneida as I am not from the area. Barista proceeded to call out my drink and referred to me as “you” and loudly said “sorry I don’t know how to pronounce your name” then started laughing with the other baristas. We ordered a second drink for one of the coworkers who was in a meeting. He then loudly said “I don’t care if you want more drinks or your friends want drinks, stop ordering drinks” and again proceeded to laugh with his coworkers. Will not be taking my business to a place with such disrespect. If you wanna make fun of me that’s fine but don’t do it when you’re taking my money. The barista has a buzz cut, glass, and a very annoying voice. Hope that helps :)
The worst cafè ive been to! I waited 6 minutes to get my order taken and i was first in line. I ordered a large coffee and a burrito. They did not have the regular ingredients for the burrito per the cashier. I waited 10 minutes standing and waiting for the coffee untill i finally reminded them about the coffee. When i finally got my coffee i was given a medium-sized coffee. Coffee was terrible. Poor choices of sweets. Everything was over priced. The cafè it self was really cold and dark. Floors were really dirty there is no way or reason for the floors to be this dirty in the cafè and the kitchen a couple hours after opening. Tables were not cleaned after customers. Windows were dirty. Window sils had lots of dust and spider webs. This cafè is a total disappointment and disaster!
I've been coming to Cafe Kubal for years. I went this morning, about 7:10. There was one person working so a bit of a wait. I expected a tasty hot cup of freshly brewed Sumatra. It was luke warm. I could have said something but it was acknowledged to the guy in front of me that it didn't seem too hot. I bought it anyway so my bad. Anyway, the quality is slipping which is unfortunate. It's great when it's good but the consistency isn't there. I'll be back later for a cappuccino. Here's hoping it meets the mark.
Staff can hardly muster a good morning, it’s like they can’t be bothered to acknowledge a customer. For $12 you’d expect a fresh bagel and hot coffee. This is not the experience I’ve had at their other locations, just S. Salina Street location.
I have tried to give this location multiple tries. The staff (specifically the men working) are always extremely rude and when you order anything other then a simple coffee they act like you’ve shot their pet. I am dairy free and need oat milk in my drinks (which I order) and have had whole milk been put in my coffee multiple times, even after reiterating that I need oat milk. On top of all of this, the food is extremely overpriced for subpar results. We ordered the chips and pico with our meal and the chips were flat out stale with the pico coming in the smallest container possible. The “buff chix” wrap is not at all what is advertised, barely any buffalo sauce either chunks of chicken that seem to have come out of a can. I don’t know why I keep coming back here. Either it’s the product or that the staff simply do not care. It needs to be better for the price. Will not be coming back.
We REALLY wanted to love this coffee shop - the interior was super cute and cozy, but unfortunately the rest of our visit was very disappointing. Food was mediocre, drinks were disappointing at best, items in our order were either missed or messed up. Maybe it was a fluke, but we’re genuinely disappointed in our experience.
