Opinions de Ararat Kebab & Gyros Alameda
Ararat just opened and their food is delicious. So far I've had the lentil soup, falafel wrap, and a falafel plate. The lentil soup is comforting and filling! And adding a bit of lemon gives it such a nice acidity. It also comes with warm pita bread. I'm not a soup person so for me to say this is good soup says a lot. The falafels are good, too. They're crunchy on the outside and densely packed on the inside. The wrap is great off your not too hungry. The plate is great when you are. Unlike the other plates, the falafel plate comes with hummus and babaghannush. I've never hat babaghannush before because I don't like eggplant. But I didn't know the plate came with it because the menu they have on the screen doesn't provide specifics. It was delicious! I may still not like eggplant but I really like babaghannush. It provided a brightness to an overall carb-y meal. The salad was also good, especially with the tahini dressing. They've remodeled the space from what it was before when it was an Indian restaurant. Is much brighter and more inviting. Service is very friendly, too. I would've gotten some baklava, but I had real mochi donuts earlier and that was enough sweets for me. I'm definitely coming back to try their street style wrap and baklava.
SF is short on good middle eastern food, especially those that are at a fair price. I am so happy to see a new place open that fills this need. Additionally, The owner is extremely kind, hard working, welcoming and puts everything he has into the food. You’ll definitely feel good about coming here and supporting his business! I had the combo gyro wrap, and it was delicious, not greasy or overly salty at all. Overall the portion size and prices are extremely fair. Cannot wait to return to try more items again! Keep up the good work my friend, it was nice meeting you!
I would highly recommend the salmon plate from here. The fish was cooked to perfection, and their rice was delicious! The German style Kebap was interesting, basically vegetables/meat/cheese sandwiched between a hamburger-style bun. I've never had a kebab like that, but it was tasty! We also liked their babaganoush and spanikopita. My girlfriend said the pastry could've used more filling, but I thought it was a good balance. I'll be back to try their rice pudding next! Thanks guys. Hope you have many more customers in your future.
I moved to the Bay Area from Armenia in 2023, and this is the closest to Armenian food I've found so far. Delicious food, and the Kurdish people running the place were quite nice to me. I don't speak their language, but I still felt welcome and will be returning for the great food + similar music and atmosphere.
Highly Recommend this Restaurant. Unlike the outside area, the inside is verly clean, hygienic and welcoming. So is the food, it’s fresh and authentic as it gets. The Cutlery was clean and polish, i have seen worse in some fine dining places! They really try to give you the best experience here possible. The Stuff was very friendly and even gave another portion of warm Pita bread without even ordering one. I had the lentil soup and the falafel Plate, it was very filling and healthy at the same time. I will be back for sure, hidden Gem you should check out if you’re into this kinda food.
Been here on the first day of its opening yesterday and tasted chicken and lamb gyros combo which was absolutely one of the most delicious gyros I have ever had so far. Chicken wings plate was amazing too. Cosy, very clean place with incredibly kind staff. This family owned new restaurant offers one of the cheapest and most delicious menus around SF. Definitely worth a visit for y'all but already a favorite place for me.
Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely place in SF. The staff truly cares about your experience. I ordered Beef & Lamb Steak Gyro Plate and lentil soup. It is absolutely amazing - everything we tasted melted in mouths. Absolutely the best mediterranean cuisine we had while in SF. Highly recommend!
I had always ordered from DoorDash, but we went in today around 7.30pm. The sun was still setting, it was good to be there. The neighborhood around has homeless folks which might make you feel unsafe, parking on the street is tricky because of the same, I would recommend the parking structure for peace of mind. Coming back to the restaurant, the outside chaos has nothing to with this gem of a place, total calmness and very sweet Kurdish women. Food was great as usual. Adana kebab plate and the Ararat mix kebab plate were what we ordered, both were good. Also, their sauce is to die for. We finally ordered some dessert too because it was too tempting not to, the caramel milk cake, was splendid, definitely get that, highly recommend, they also had a pistachio milk cake and dough cake with a walnut, these were good as well, but if you have a sweet tooth like me, the caramel cake is the way to go, if you want a little lower intensity, then the baked dough with nut and sugar syrup or the pistachio milk cake will be your choice. All in all, great people, great restaurant. Keep up the good work, and be consistent, this restaurant will do wonders, I am sure, highly recommend 👍🏾
Very clean dining area Amazing staff Delicious food As far as having survey gyros I now rate this the #1 spot in SF
I ordered the Falafel Platter with Dolmas as an app. Everything was made to order and very tasty. The fresh & crisp salad, baba ganoush, humous, and falafel really hit the spot. The gent behind the counter was very personable with a big smile and delivered fantastic service. -chaz
Mashallah amazing food friendly workers and complementary çay just like in turkey. I ordered the Iskender which is difficult to find here in the bay area. The Doner is amazing since it is sliced beef from the spit not just minced meat like many places do. Price is reasonable for portions and for quality. Its the tenderloin so the outdoor seating is the only thing I would avoid.
I recommend it to everyone. IT'S A REALLY GREAT place. I LOVE TO EAT HERE. I EAT HERE EVEY DAY.
Literally should be one of the top 3 gyro spots to visit in SF! Must try beef GYRO !!
I ate lahmacun and pide at my friend's place, and it was very delicious. Well done!
I hate that this amazing spot is in the worst spot of the tenderloin lol. I called ahead for pickup and thieves were already trying to take my scooter. 😂 Once I got home the food was amazing. The rice pudding had incredible vanilla flavor. The kebab serving was perfect and delicious.
I ordered the chicken gyro wrap, which was truly delicious. The front desk lady provided excellent service—definitely a 10 out of 10. The food was prepared in less than 10 minutes. I highly recommend this restaurant if you enjoy tasty Mediterranean halal food.
I had an amazing experience at this kebab spot. The food is absolutely delicious and you can tell everything is made fresh. The place is very clean and well organized, which made the whole experience even better. The staff member who helped me was super friendly and welcoming. This has definitely become my favorite place to get kebab and I will keep coming back.
Ararat Restaurant in San Francisco is absolutely amazing! The food is incredibly tasty, fresh, and full of authentic flavor. Every dish we tried was perfectly seasoned and beautifully prepared. You can really feel the love and care put into the food. This is one of the best places in SF for delicious, high-quality meals. We will definitely be coming back!” 😊
I was traveling to San Francisco and checked out Ararat Kebab & Gyro. The mixed grill platter hit the spot: tender lamb, beef, chicken shawarma and gyro meat served with fluffy rice, fresh salad and soft flatbread with a tangy yogurt sauce. For dessert I tried the warm künefe topped and it was delicious. The restaurant has a cozy vibe and the staff are friendly and attentive. I’ll be back next time I’m in town!
Many Turkish places in the Bay don’t offer my favourite Turkish food — Iskander Kebab Plate — but Ararat Kebab & Gyros does offer and they do it perfectly. Friendly service , decent price, and really great quality food. For me it’s the best Turkish spot in the city.
Nice clean small European kabob style restaurant and the food that I ordered was delicious The regular wrap which mind you was about $15 but I think for San Francisco it's probably fair staff was amazingly friendly the hot sauce was incredible
The food was everything we’d been craving and thankfully every dish tasted amazing with no disappointment at all. But honestly the best part was how warm and attentive the staff were. Definitely recommend.
Very nice place to get some good Turkish food. Pleasant people and cozy atmosphere. Tea is on the house.
If you love Turkish food, this is the best spot in SF! Everything tastes just like back in Turkey, super fresh and authentic. The service is quick and the staff is really friendly. Definitely my go-to place when I’m craving Turkish food!
I came all the way from Chicago and had the chance to try the pide here — it was absolutely worth it! The dough was perfectly baked, the topping was flavorful and fresh, and everything was served hot and well-prepared. The portion size was generous and very satisfying. On top of that, the place has a clean and welcoming atmosphere. Definitely one of the best pide experiences I’ve ever had – highly recommended!
A rare place in San Francisco where you can find truly delicious halal food. I really liked the meat — it was flavorful and perfectly cooked. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for quality halal options in the city.
Ararat Kebab & Gyros is absolutely fantastic! This place serves some of the best Mediterranean food in the city. The lentil soup was amazing – rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. It’s the kind of soup that warms you from the inside out. But the real star of the show was the Iskender kebab plate. Tender, juicy meat with incredible flavor, served over fresh bread with that classic tomato sauce and yogurt. Every component was on point. The portions are generous, the quality is outstanding, and the prices are more than fair. If you’re craving authentic kebab, this is the place. Highly recommend!
Authentic Turkish food! Recently tried their pide, sooo delicious!
This food was so good! 🤤 great portions good quality and very home like feeling place , the desserts are to die for! I definitely recommend this place and is added to my favorite places to eat in SF.
Decided to try this place after noticing they were new to the neighborhood and oh my goodness I’m so glad we did! The food was fresh and tasted so delicious and even leftovers tasted incredible the next day. We ordered the spanakopita, the falafel wrap & the appetizer combo. Highly recommend the app combo so that you get a little of everything. We ordered take out but based on how sweet the staff were I know if we dined in it would’ve been a great experience. I should’ve wrote this review when we went a few weeks ago, but it’s here now and has inspired us to order from them again tonight! Highly recommend you stop by and check them out.

I had an amazing experience at Ararat Kebab. Their lahmacun is honestly one of the best I’ve had in the Bay Area—thin, crispy, and packed with fresh flavor. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The pides are also incredible. The dough is soft yet perfectly baked, and the toppings are generous and delicious. Whether you get the cheese, meat, or mixed pide, you can’t go wrong. The service is friendly, the food comes out fast, and the prices are fair for the quality. Highly recommend this place if you’re craving authentic Turkish flavors. I’ll definitely be coming back!
🍽️ A Feast of Flavors! Today’s table isn’t just about food — it’s a legendary taste experience! 🔥 👉 Crispy lahmacun, 👉 Tender sautéed meat, 👉 Refreshing şalgam drink, 👉 Creamy rice pudding, 👉 And perfectly brewed Turkish tea ☕️ All together — pure happiness on a plate! ❤️ This is not just food; it’s love and tradition served fresh.
This place is truly a DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH. From the moment I walked in, I had a very pleasant and comforting experience. The food was delicious! I ordered the beef döner over rice, and both the portion size and food quality were outstanding. After the meal, they even offered complimentary tea, which was a really nice touch. The young gentleman at the register, who also served my food was super nice and friendly, accommodating, and provided excellent customer service, all with a smile the entire time. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back.
Absolutely delicious. Meats perfectly seasoned and juicy, brought me right back to Türkiye. That and the people- two regulars welcomed me in with open arms fo share a table with them. Go for the Ararat kebab plate- it has everything and is plenty food for 2 people. Excellent baklava to top the feast off. Wish I had saved space to try their soup, which just about every table had ordered. Next time.

This restaurant is honestly one of the best I’ve been to in the area. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome and a very friendly atmosphere. The staff are attentive without being overwhelming, and they really make you feel comfortable as a guest. The food was outstanding — every dish we tried was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can really tell that they care about quality and details here. The service was smooth and professional, and despite the restaurant being busy, everything was handled with patience and a smile. I also loved the overall vibe of the place. It’s cozy, clean, and perfect whether you’re coming for a casual dinner or bringing guests for a special occasion. It’s rare to find a restaurant that balances great food, excellent service, and a welcoming environment all at once, but this place absolutely does. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a spot where you can truly enjoy both the meal and the experience. I’ll definitely be coming back again and again!

I like this place but counter guy was confused me with lahmadju that I can't get one but two at least. I don't know what is wrong. Food is good Service is ok
First time here today and it was pretty good. Got a kofte kebab wrap which was $15. Pretty tender and seasoned well. Nice hummus and garlic sauce. Service was good too, chill waiter/owner. Want to give it 5 stars but felt like the size was kind of small for $15. And it was good but not mind blowing. I’ll come back to try more of the menu though. Also this place is in a pretty rough part of town so be a bit careful if you come here in person.

We went to Ararat Kebab & Gyros, but as we walked there from our hotel, we were greeted by a terrible sight and smell. Normally, I don't get put off easily, but there was a strong smell of urine everywhere, and the neighborhood looked very dangerous. The place itself is very small and could have been opened in a more reliable location. I ordered a wrap and honestly didn't like it at all. However, my spouse ordered a home-cooked chickpea dish, and it was truly delicious. I think this place would be much better if it focused on more authentic, traditional meals instead of wraps. Since I went with my family, we were a little scared while walking down that street. The place doesn't feel very suitable for families. If it were a bit more spacious, it might be a better option, but in its current state, I wouldn't choose to go back. We didn't return a second time and went to a different, safer place the next day. My advice for families is to use a taxi to get there—do not walk. The smell alone will make you feel sick and ruin your appetite before you even arrive.

As a Turk, I left feeling disappointed. Normally, I really enjoy chicken soup, but the one I was served here was quite disgusting. The restaurant was uncomfortably hot, almost like a Turkish bath. I came based on the positive Google reviews, but I regret my decision. Sadly, this place does not represent my culture well.
I ordered a lamb shawarma sandwich and was really disappointed. There was barely any meat in it—mostly just lettuce. For a lamb shawarma, I expected actual lamb, but it felt like I got a veggie wrap instead. Definitely not worth the price.
One of the worst meals I’ve ever had. Atmosphere is what you expect from a hole in the wall in the TL. Staff being way too flirty. Door blew open through the entire meal. It was cold and uncomfortable. The dolma I ordered to take home were store-bought, and actually hard and dry. They were cold and gross, and tasted really old and freezer-burnt. The pita was store-bought bread as well. The chicken and lamb kebabs were tasteless, dry and overcooked. Nothing was fresh. Way overpriced— $40 for one appetizer, one combo plate with one extra kebab, and no drink!!! Extremely disappointed as this was a birthday meal for a family member. I was misled by the other reviews. Will never go back for any reason.
