Opinions de Freddie's Sandwiches Alameda
OMG! Can’t believe this place is still here. I used to buy sandwiches here in the late 60s. Kids from school would line out the door. You would order 15 cent or 25 cent roll. Then add the meat/cheese based on how much you wanted to spend. Slap some mustard on and off you went. Haven’t been to SF since ‘93. On my bucket list when I go in Sept 2025.😎
Although take out only during this S.I.P., Freddie's still makes a fantastic sandwich. I had a heated Pastrami (size small), with Swiss, no onion, on a soft wheat roll. Fantastic combination of flavors (warmed up seals the deal), lean Pastrami, and cut in half, individually wrapped halves - nice touch. I sat on the tailgate of my truck parked across the street from Freddie's at the playground, on a beautiful 72° blue sky SF afternoon, and ate a wonderful sandwich - made a great day.
This place is fantastic. Fantastic, I had the club sandwich. 10/10. Great spot.
Amazing sandwich take-away. Well worth the effort of walking a few blocks back from pier 39 front Good value for San Francisco, massive even in the small format. Good variety of fillings, bread etc - blows Subways out of the water. A few seats and tables outside so you can chill while eating
I’ve been coming here for over a decade and it hasn’t changed a bit. The sandos are great quality at a great price. I love the bread they use, it’s actually custom made for them and sometimes I buy a loaf off them. The best part is that Freddie’s is the most consistent deli I’ve ever been to. Everytime I order the chicken salad on the soft sourdough it’s exactly the same. Some people might not understand how important that is, but I’ll tell you almost everything in this city has changed over the years… but these sandos stay the same.
Came across Freddies randomly. Such a great find and a hidden gem. Seems very popular with the locals from what I saw but I was amazed with the sandwiches. The lady serving was very helpful aiding us on what breads and fillings to choose from. The grilled cheese with there habarnero sauce was delicious. The chicken salad sandwich with the semi hard bread went down a treat for lunch. Thank you so much for making my lunch the best meal of the day.
Fantastic sandwiches. Recommend ordering ahead to minimize wait
Amazing classic Italian sandwichs, variety of bread options, and quality ingredients. Sandwiches are big too—good value. Hands down one of the best in SF. Order ahead for pickup on their website to save you the wait.
My dad has been taking us to Freddie's for my entire life! It was his absolute favorite sandwich in SF and eating it gives me the best memories. Will always have a special place in my heart ❤️
Was just walking down to the pier and stopped for a bite as my family and I were hungry. After waiting for just a few minutes, I experienced maybe one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. The meat is freshly sliced behind the counter, and the thinly sliced vegetables are generously coated in all kinds of sauces, like mustard, mayo, and vinegar. I’m not sure what Freddie puts in these sandwiches, but these are out of this world. They are so delicious, and the sourdough bread is toasted to perfection. Glad I stopped by here
Around 3 pm most weekdays, my brain starts to shut down. We need some calories, stat. This is the best food option within a 10 minute walk from the office.
Decades of Deliciousness! I've been a customer at Freddie's Sandwiches for over twenty-five years and live just two blocks away. When I wanted to update my review, I realized that the comments from my 2016 review still hold true! So, I won't repeat that they still make the best sandwiches for the price, but I will share that I've added their Club Sandwich to my list of favorites. Freddie's Club Sandwich comes with ham, turkey, and bacon, and you can add any combination of mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions. The bread makes a huge difference, and if I may, I'd like to give you a hint: Go with hard sourdough bread, ask for it to be gutted out and toasted, and go light with the mayo. You will enjoy it. Their coffee is also pretty good. It's drip coffee only, but the owner is a coffee enthusiast like myself and always has fresh, hot coffee available upfront. If coffee isn't your thing, they have plenty of non-alcoholic options to choose from. Their deli salads are made daily and can be a great companion to your sandwich. The store is small, and there is no room to sit inside, but they have three or four small tables and chairs available outside if you and a companion or two want to have your sandwiches there. The owner seems very serious at first, but after chatting and exchanging pleasantries, you'll find that he's actually a very nice and helpful person, as are the rest of his staff. They sometimes fill in behind the counter if he's not around.
These sandwiches are delicious and worth the wait. I was here on a layover and heard rave reviews about this place. It did not disappoint. Highly recommend. Picture is a club, double meat, and Dutch crunch bread.
Ordered a sandwich for pickup through Uber Eats and waited in the car until the app showed it was ready. Walked into Freddie’s—only to find that the store never received my order. I showed the confirmation. The guy behind the counter called Uber himself. Turns out something glitched on Uber’s side, and the order was never sent through. Uber canceled it. But this guy didn’t miss a beat. He put in my order right away, and in just a few minutes, I had a delicious sandwich in my hands. Why am I sharing this? Because stuff happens. We can choose to let it ruin our day—or not. Today, I didn’t. Got my sandwich. It was amazing. And I’m really thankful for the guy who took the time to make it right. Once again: delicious sandwich!
Super sweet lady working there. The Italian sandwich was super good and it was super affordable I also got a hot coffee which was yummy
Little Italian hole in the wall been around since like before the Great Depression speaking of which my sandwich was so good it could probably cure depression uhm- please do not skip this place it is a must. I had a large hot pastrami sandwich on semi hard sourdough bread. It came cut in half-as seen in the photo. They also have gansitos so my fellow Latinos you are welcome here 🕊️2 benches with a table are outside and I saw like 6 people crowding around one, but me and my friend shared a bench just fine. You can order over the phone too! Took abt 7ish minutes to get my sandwich, so worth it I will definitely be back everything is fresh, authentic, and tastes amazing!!
Great place to get a lovely sandwich at a good price too. Would recommend to anyone considering.
The best sandwich I’ve ever had, so much to choose from. I would highly recommend this place for a sandwich!!!!
Very delicious sandwiches with a big selection of different breads! Service was quick and there are a few seating options outside. Even the small sandwich is very generously filled and makes the perfect lunch!
THIS WAS THE BEST SANDWICH I EVER HAD. club on the crunch, pepper jack and garlic spread. Ate it at Jack Early. Best lunch ever
Small shop, it was very busy and crowded. After waiting about 5 minutes in line, I ordered a smoked turkey sandwich. There’s no place to sit or wait inside, so I waited outside for about 15 minutes until they called my name. It was worth all the effort the sandwich was delicious. We share one medium sandwich.
Best sandwich we had in the entire USA. Real bread with fresh ingredients. Enjoyed it just outside in the sun, amazing!
Really a great place to buy your sandwich! Lots of choice, friendly and fast service. I would definitely recommend this place!
This is an absolute must visit on your trip to Fisherman’s Wharf These sandwiches were the best we had ever eaten - you will not be disappointed!! The store is very unassuming but it will be the best lunch you will have in the area - guaranteed!
Came here all the time with my dad when I was a kid and we lived on Leavenworth. Haven't been here since I was in elementary school and it's just as good as I remember it. Italian combo on dutch crunch with everything was incredible. The large was enough for two meals but I walked here from my office on Market street and was real hungry. Owner was super nice and it was a perfect weather to eat outside. Will come here again with my kids to show them a SF staple.
The best tasting sandwiches in San Francisco! We were walking by to the Pier 39 and there is this really great sandwich shop. Ordered fantastic sandwiches for us and our kids. Extreme good quality of bread and everything else. And the price is right!
A friend recommended we pass y this place for lunch on a bike ride through the city. We were in North Beach and decided to swing by. The place is a decent size and is primarily made for take out though they have 4 small tables outside of you want to eat it there. There is a decent section of chips & drinks which is good to accompany Andy great sandwich. I usually get the same thing at any sandwich place I go to, a turkey sandwich on dutch crunch with everything and no mayo. They did a great job with it. The Dutch crunch was not too “bready” with good flaking, the sandwich was not overly stuffed and had good proportion. I highly recommend it. They also have additional spreads (garlic, oil & vinegar) and a variety of breads too. Most importantly Freddie, is a super nice guy and is very welcoming to anyone who comes in, regular or newbie.

I am a SF local that lives in North Beach and both me and my husband love the sandwiches here and have been loyal customers for years. My husband normally gets the Italian Combo on Dutch crunch and I get a spicy falafel. These sandwiches are well prepared with ample tasty fillings. Sometimes there is a long line to order and pick up, but it is worth the wait. I often order online which saves the time waiting to place an order. Everyone who works at Freddie's is very nice, efficient and accommodating. There is only outdoor seating so on a bad weather day, you will need to find a place to eat your meal. I highly recommend this wonderful sandwich venue. If it wasn't excellent then me and my husband wouldn't keep coming back.
Honestly was so happy to walk into this shop and see the deli and big green menu filled with so many greta choices - classic deli style with a plethora of bread choices left me wanting 3+ sandwiches- small Italian with everything on it hit the spot and was made fresh with incredible staff - 10/10 experience!

I ordered an Italian combo and both myself and my kids really liked it. Sandwich had a little bit of everything. Salami, mortadella, ham, chopped ham, mozzarella. I rarely go to SF these days but when I visited in the past I never found the time to buy a sandwich from Freddie's. Finally got a chance and I'm glad I did.
This is a nice old school sandwich shop. I came here right before closing so it wasn’t too busy at all. The sandwiches were made quick and tasted good. We took them down to the port to eat them. My girlfriend ordered the tuna salad and when we got to the port we realized it was actually chicken salad. The was a little disappointing for her. She was also not a fan that something was a little spicy, maybe the mustard. I got the number one on their menu and it was good. I think I would get it without the oil and vinegar next time as the vinegar was a little overpowering.

The sandwich was perfect, but the service needs little bit more politeness
We were traveling and found this place by chance. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, the service wasn’t great we felt some discrimination which made the experience uncomfortable. We’re not asking for special treatment, just basic politeness. The food itself was tasty.

Honestly the worst “sandwich” I’ve had. The menu and photos online show a falafel sandwich on a roll of some sort with sliced veggies. What I received was a pita stuffed with freezing cold chopped veggies. I ate it on site yet it was so soggy.
