Their food is phenomenal, do not hesitate. Best take out on the island!
Delicious food! Highly recommend the beef sticks - Sachkor Ang; the Kary Tia and Prahok Katis were okay.
I was introduced to Phnom Penh House by a Cambodian foodie friend. The food was really great. Service was nice. In this new location, the environment is cozy and comfortable with a very high ceiling and colorful decor. Came on a week night, and it was packed the whole time. So, reservation is recommended. We had lemongrass chicken soup, grilled lemongrass chicken, steamed curry with fish, pomfret in three flavor sauce, and smoked eggplants with pork and shrimp. Everything was delightful.
Family owned establishment, great people flavorful food. Our favorites are the beef skewers and eggplant dish (smokey and unique). Will come back very soon!
Very delicious food, well prepared dishes. The menu has many options that include (but are not limited to), non-spicy and spicy dishes. 😋 I personally prefer Cambodian/Khmer food over Thai, as it's the less spicier option, for those looking to stay away from too much spice.
I would like to have the crunchy green beans and tofu every day for the rest of my earthly life.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Phnom Penh House. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the service staff were incredibly attentive. The food was delicious. I had a wonderful dining experience and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious Cambodian meal in Alameda.
This was the best lunch I've had in a long time. The only down side were the very loud customers and one customer who doesn't understand that no one else wants to listen to his phone....geezz!! All of the dishes ordered were excellent: SAMLAW MACHHOU PHNOM-PENH (soup), SLAAP MOARN BORG (Boneless stuffed chicken wings), TREI CHAP CHEAN TURK CHHOU-AIM (Deep fried “Pompano” fish), SWEET BASIL FRIED RICE w/ shrimp and tea. All were heavenly. Thank you.
The food is delicious and this place is a good option for vegetarians - menu has a separate vegetarian section and you can also modify some dishes on the menu to replace protein with tofu. We thoroughly enjoyed "crunchy green beans with tofu", "tofu in ginger sauce", "tofu with peanut sauce" and "Singapore noodles with tofu". My favorites were the Singapore noodles and crunchy green beans tofu. Fast service and nice people run this place.
Everything we had was delicious. Shrimp and chicken Singapore noodles. Thai tea. Lemonade. Fried banana with ice cream. Really yummy. The staff were very nice and gave us 2 fried banana desserts instead of just the one we ordered. Very impressed even my very honest 11 year old enjoyed everything.
This place is amazing. I do miss their Chinatown location for proximity and the coziness I enjoyed there, but that's not to knock this space either. Everything I've ordered has been delicious with perfectly balanced and succulent dishes. The eggplant with pork and shrimp is worth the trip alone! And the owners are the kindest people you could ever hope to meet.
We welcomed warmly. The food was delicious. The restaurant is very clean especially the bathroom. I don't know about you but when a restaurant has a clean bathroom, they get my business. When we left they were so kind and thanked us for coming. Give them a try. We will go back for sure.
I've been to the one on MacArthur Blvd, that one was good. This was my 1st time to the Alameda location. It was a nice day, had a window seat, food and service was good and the vibe was super chill.
I spotted Phnom Penh Restaurant while driving down Webster St. during one of my weekly visits to Alameda so I decided to give it a try. At around 9 pm which is close to their closing time there were about 2 tables full. After going through the menu, I settled on Sachkor Cha Ktis ($8.99) which as per their menu is tender beef simmered in curry flavor peanut butter sauce served w/ cooked spinach and steamed rice ($2) to-go. I could pay using my card so no issues there. During the short 10-minute wait for the food I was served some hot tea. I got two containers one with the curry which and the other with the rice. As expected the curry had a strong ground peanut taste but in a good kind of way. The spinach was cooked well and overall to my surprise the dish came together very well. As I liked what I got I stopped by a second time and this time got the Sachor Cha Somdech ($8.99) which as per their menu is beef sautéed w/ sweet pea, mushroom, bamboo shoot, carrot & onion and steam rice ($2) to-go. I was really impressed with this dish. The beef was not chewy and the flavors were not your generic Thai food variety and seemed to be unique to the region purported by their name. Overall a pretty good experience. Price-wise they are in line or maybe a tad below what you will pay for similar dishes in Thai restaurants in Alameda but the taste of their dishes is unique. The portion size is not very big but enough for one person with a moderate appetite. My only complaint is that they give the entrée in a paper box (like the one that you get the rice in) which makes it completely soggy by the time you reach home. For most people it would not be a problem but for someone who must eat out of the box it becomes a bit of a hassle to have the container disintegrate on you in the middle of your meal. I think they should just charge some more for a to-go container and give the entrée in a proper plastic box. Apart from this I could not find any other issue so this is going to be a generous 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 rating.
Anything I order from this place always exceeds my expectations. The owner is such a cool, down to earth guy, and you can really feel the family run vibe you’ll often see their kids helping out, which makes it even more welcoming. The food is consistently amazing, and Moarn Cha Ktis is my absolute favorite. Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for something authentic and made with care!
Incredible food. We had the vegetarian deluxe and a fish steamed in collard greens dish, with the mango salad to start. And the service can’t be beat. We can’t wait to go back!
Probably my favorite Cambodian restaurant in the Bay Area! Delicious foods, clean, excellent Cambodian decor, and super nice staff. Will be back whenever we in the area!
Excellent option for casual, family-style Cambodian dining. Ordered 4 appetizers for a filling dinner for two; with rice, and the spread could have easily fed three. Spicy Papaya Salad, refreshing and light, the thinly sliced, unripened fruit has the taste and texture of radish. Prawn Salad, same dressing, but served with cabbage and mint. Mporn Slarp Moarn, chicken wings stuffed with ground pork and vermicelli then deep fried, a well-spiced and flavor-forward appetizer. Beef Skewers, tender marinated, slightly sweet and succulent, a must.
Visited this nice little place on Webster Street on a cold and rainy Friday night. The owner was very welcoming and service attentive. We ordered the Spicy Papaya Salad as an appetizer and 4 mains: Sngor Thhrourk (seafood soup), Spicy Tofu with Lemongrass, Minty Noodles with BBQ Pork, and Singapore Noodles. All of it was fresh, hot and very delicious. It's a good amount of food for the dollar so we all left with extra for lunch the next day. Great spot, good eats, friendly people. Recommended.
Absolutely phenomenal South East Asian food. One of my go to restaurants on the island. I've visited many times for lunch, dinner and ordered takeout. It's never been too crowded. And I've never had to wait for a table. All the dishes have so much flavor. It's difficult not to order everything off the menu. Good portions and fair prices. The mussels and green beans are my favorite dishes. Service is always great.
The grilled beef skewers are very good, cooked well, and flavorful. The chicken with peanut sauce had the right texture but could be more seasoned. Service was fast and restaurant was clean. Would come back again to try their other entrees
Hidden gem in Alameda! Or maybe it’s not a hidden gem, and everyone knows this place. Regardless, all the dishes that we ordered were really good. - Basil fried rice (super fragrant) - BBQ lemongrass pork ribs (fall off the bone tender) - Stuffed chicken wing (huge and filled with curry flavored vermicelli) - Ha Mok (had a ton of fish, although the bowl was small)
Very clean restaurant with the best beef skewers I've had and the curry noodles are perfectly between moist and chewy. Everything had a rich flavor that's not too salty. Will absolutely return!
Simply a cut above, this family run business, in what to me, is an obscure location, (Webster St. in Alameda, I need to check out Alameda more often), Offers Real regional Cambodian food, made by chefs who REALLY know what they are doing. For those uninitiated, Cambodian Food, is similar in some aspects to to other southeast Asian cuisines, but tends to be a little less sweet, and more fragrant and piquant, than a lot of Thai restaurants, (Some of which I simply adore) and have some Salads, and soups unique to their region. Among the dishes we ordered with a bottle of Sake' (Which was a surprise to me for how well it went with this food) were the following: 106: Noum Om Beng, a Cambodian Prawn crepe stuffed w/pork, shrimp, coconut, & bean sprout served w/ peanut sauce, served with large lettuce leaf, which you use as a wrap. Incredibly savory and crunchy and just a hint of sweetness too. 108, Norm Moarn Chicken Salad, a Tangy and fresh, Chicken breast mixed w/ shredded cabbage, carrot, onion, mint leaves tossed w/ house made dressing. Refreshing. 643, Prawns in Vegetable Delux , Prawns sautéed w/ broccoli flowers, mushroom, snow peas, baby corn, bamboo shoot, & Napa Cabbage (Choice of mild red or spicy green curry sauce). Succulent, and herb-y green curry really makes this dish! Perfectly spicy too. 213: Samlaw Machhou Phnom-Penh, zesty and deeply flavored Soup cooked w/ prawn, fish, pineapple, tomato, lemongrass, & tamarind paste. Amazing. similar in some ways to the Thai soup called "Tom Kha Kai", but with deeper smokier flavors balanced by the brightness of the pineapple. 641: Cha Bangkea, Tender prawns simmered in mild chili peanut sauce served w/ cooked cabbage. This is taking comfort food to a whole other level. I have always had a thing for peanut sauce, but when you mix it with with savory prawns, you absolutely have my attention. One thing about this restaurant is that all the dished tasted really fresh, like they had just gone to market an hour earlier for all their ingredients. The outdoor seating, now available since the lifting of the Ban in Alameda, make for the perfect outdoor dining experience, and a much needed place to get out to and spend some time outside as well. The finishing dessert, the classical Fried Banana and ice cream was great, and here they really shined, because the banana was REALLY fresh, the crispy batter REALLY hot and crunchy and the ice cream tasted like Häagen-Dazs, or some other top shelf ice cream and not something cheap. All in all I cannot recommend this restaurant, and if you haven't begun your adventure into Cambodian and regional Southeast Asian cuisine this is a great place to start. Humbly, P.I.
Lovely place with friendly staff. Several tasty non-meat options including the lotus root salad (added tofu) and an entire vegetarian menu, including vegetarian "duck."

Love there food! Delicious
This place is so good OMG! It’s my first time eating here, and I ordered the sautéed chicken with sweet-and-sour sauce. It has pineapple, tomato, and cucumber. Not breaded and fried like the Chinese American style. The name of this dish is spelled MOARN CHA TURK CHHOU-AIM on their menu, also written as មាន់ឆាទឹកជូរអែម in Khmer. Warm and friendly service. Very new, clean, and cozy atmosphere.

Great food, fresh produce. Once seated waiter or waitress doesn't check on you
Was able to be seated right away on Friday evening around 6:30pm for a party of two. Service was standard - nothing to complain about. It was fairly quiet inside, as the restaurant wasn’t too big and the parties inside were not loud. We ordered the beef skewer, papaya salad (no spicy), and the basil fried rice. The beef skewer is a must get! Charred very well but still soft. It came with a side of their house sauce (seemed like fish sauce) and paired well. As for the salad and the fried rice, they were good but missing some flavor. Perhaps it was because the salad was ordered with no spice. For both dishes, we ordered chicken as the protein. The chicken seemed like it was boiled and was very white / had no flavor. I wish it was somehow grilled like the beef skewer, as it would enhance the overall flavor of the dishes. I think this location has potential, but just may have to order the right dishes
Love Phnom Penh! We over order whenever we go here to be sure we have food to take home :) We also try to order a combo of faves and new items we haven't tried before. For this visit, we got: * traop ang - definitely one of their most popular dishes for good reason * duck curry - I'm a fan of duck and it's only here I can eat it with curry * samlor katis - first time to try this fish curry soup and it's a new fave! * cha kathiw - we've tried all 3 noodle dishes from here and this is our favorite Highly recommend!
Ty and Linda are awesome. They're very welcoming and friendly. The food is amazing.
This was my first time trying this restaurant since they opened. Location is very convenient and easy to found, only they do not have parking lot. Only street parking. Reason I gave them 4 stars (I should say 4.5), because it took longer than expected wait time for cooking the food. At least 30 minutes for 1 appetizer and 1 dish. It's kind of a long wait. However, the taste was good, and their service is fast and nice. Their appetizers were quite expensive than I expected in the area. The restaurant is not that big, so in the weekend could be longer wait time. One thing is a plus that, they do accept Tap payments, which is huge deal for someone like me. Just go to their counter and ask for it.
This is probably the second time I tried Cambodian food. I actually like this place more than the one I had last time. I have never been to Cambodia, but what they offered here feels quite like the homemade traditional foods. Over all I find the experience quite refreshing. I ordered the basil mussels, the crepe, coconut juice steam fish and the lemongrass ribs. My favorite dish is the mussels. It’s very flavorful. The fish is interesting too. I guess I was expecting a whole steam fish, but turns out its filets in a bowl. I love the coconut juice in the fish because it adds flavor and complexity but not overpowering. The collard greens at the bottom absorbs all the flavor and I like it. By the way, the waitress is quite friendly and she showed us how to eat the crepe. I think I will go back again.
First time here food is pretty good as well the service , lucky we found street parking close but can be hard on busy time or days

This spot offers a decent foray into Cambodian cuisine. The overall experience was OK, the fish curry truly shined and was undoubtedly the star of the meal.
I ordered takeout from then and tried their Spicy Papaya Salad with shrimp, Charbroiled Beef Skewers, and Boneless Chicken Wings. The total came to around $75, which I found a bit pricey for just three items. The food itself was great, with flavors that were on point. I highly recommend the Slaap Moarn Borg (boneless chicken wings) – they were delicious! However, I noticed a strange taste in the veggies, almost like a cleaning product, which was off-putting. Overall, while the food was tasty, the high price and the odd taste in the veggies left me with mixed feelings.

I don't like their food. I really don't! Seeing great yelp and Google reviews, I tried this place 3 times altogether, from when it was still in Oakland to now in Alameda Webster street. The first time, we were not very impressed. So we didn't go there for quite sometime. When it moved to Alameda, we thought to try it out the second time. But again, not very impressed. I thought we might have not ordered the right dishes. So this time, when I planned to give it a try, we ordered a few dishes that are also available in other south east Asia restaurants. Now I can say that I really dislike their food and I wouldn't go back again. All dishes are very sour and sweet. And you can't tell the difference in taste from dish to dish. People are nice there. But hey, food just not on par with the 4.5 star review.
My husband chose this restaurant to celebrate his birthday because of the excellent reviews. I'll give the food 4 stars but 2 stars for service. Our server who took our order was friendly but we never saw him again after he left with our order. Nobody checked on us to check if we needed anything else or if the food was good. You know, the usual courtesy one is given once the food is on the table. Beef skewers had pretty good flavor. We ordered 3 (12 skewers total) and devoured them. We also enjoyed the Spicy soup with assorted seafood. Fried banana dessert was so yummy. We would most likely go back to give the place another try. They didn't clear our table of the dirty dishes after we were done and already have placed our dessert order. Literally, for a good 20 minutes. We were just sitting around talking to each other staring at the dishes. The staff was too busy clearing the other tables to make room for new customers arriving that they forgot their existing customers also need attention.
