TGI Oni Sushi

I was looking for a quick dinner and found this place. The atmosphere was welcomeing. The service great and food amazing. Although I got my food to go, I would definitely visit again if I'm in the area.

The best sushi place in Oakland, the lunch bento box was delicious and the price and portion is the best. I have never had better miso soup and california roll. Super cute inside too! I would go here for lunch during work and even a date night since the inside is so cute and the customer service was great! Would recommend

I love the remodel! Nice new decor. Food was great, service was good. Attentive servers. They even gave my friend and I something to try since my food came but my friend was still waiting for his food. Will definitely be going back.

We loved this sushi place while we were visiting family off of Thornhill in Oakland. The pieces were large and fresh and the variety was great. We will return the next time that we visit family.

Loved it. Very tasty, no nonsense rolls. The seaweed salad appetizer was killer and the bottle of unfiltered sake left me leaving this review of pure adoration for this new (to us) restaurant.

Always love coming here, it's like the cheers of sushi here in Montclair. The oni roll, shashimi are my standard orders to start. The wait staff are always very nice and recognize you by face the male waiter is Awesome with kids and the female sushi chef is super sweet and nice if you give them $2 bills they might kick you down a nice cooked piece of salmon for free

Stopped in here spontaneously an hour before closing and glad we did! Great Maguro Nigiri, and amazing bento boxes. Beef teriyaki was extremely tender. Our new go-to spot

Some of the best sushi I have had during my stay near the bay. The waiter was incredibly kind, it's a quiet place, and the chef even honored me with a little treat. I recommend this place tenfold! :)

Great spot for lunch. Quiet. Delicious choices. Nice view and environment. Gave us great recommendations for sushi rolls. Parking is a but hard and expensive... but that's montclair.

The food is great, the service is superb. We have two small children and when we walk in they get us edamame right away and set the kids up with chopstick holders and everything else they need. Highly recommend it.

Ordered a teriyaki chicken bento box with gyoza and tempura for the kid's lunch. The kid is pretty particular about her bento boxes. And she more than approved of TGI Oni's. Portions and quality were well above par. Salad and miso included. Price came in below $19 without tip. Very friendly greeting upon pickup. More than satisfied with our take out order. Really hope they are able to weather the corona storm as the interior is super cute and would be a fun place to enjoy a family meal once Alameda County opens up.

Over the last 35 years I've eaten a lot of sushi here in the East Bay. This place is the best. I found them a year ago and have been coming back regularly.

This place is great. Incredible miso soup, and the salmon lovers sushi is super good. One rolls fills me up in just one sitting.

Given the location in a upscale area, I was surprised at the reasonableness of the price and the quality. Also, even though I didn't eat at site, it is a very pleasant intimate environment. If I'm ever in the area I would definitely come here again.

The service was equally outstanding and the restaurant was steadily full. Small and quieter restaurant environment, and easy to have quiet conversations. So glad to rediscover and will be making it a priority for frequent, return visits in the future. Highly recommended.

A great place to eat japanese food and if you're looking for authentic japanese food , this is the place absolutely recommended

The salmon avocado roll is delicious here. They added a big chuck of salmon and the rolls were thick, not wimpy like at other restaurants. Happy I stopped by for a quick lunch. Plus, the woman working here is nice.

Good quality but a bit overpriced just cause they CAN charge that in Montclair without a care. Outside of the 'Great Montclair' you can get many places of equal or better quality for less $. Probably 15% or so less, in fact.

Finally, a good neighborhood sashimi spot in the East Bay! Sure we have Kakui and Kotobuki but one's overpriced and the other is average at best. Iyasare's my go-to chirashi don and tempura, but now this is my go-to for sashimi. We had dinner on a busy Saturday night the newly re-opened TGI Oni Sushi, and loved it so much I came back for lunch on Tuesday (photos from lunch). Fresh sashimi, good sized menu, reasonably priced, friendly staff. We had hamachi sashimi (5 pcs for $15), chawamushi, shishamo, saba shioyaki and complimentary miso soup. Hopefully they'll keep up these standards!

The food was extremely sweet — overwhelmingly so. It felt like every bite was packed with sugar to the point of being hard to eat. I’m not sure who this is intended for, but in Japan we simply don’t consume this much sugar. It was way too much for my taste.

Food was great but service was not.Waiter made us feel like we were not important.we kept having to ask him for things and didn't bother to even ask if we needed any to go boxes , it was obvious we still had plenty of food on our plates.unfortunately we will not be be returning or recommending.

Sushi is just overpriced! $8.50 for 6 avocado rolls is ridiculous! Entree portions sizes are VERY small as well overpriced. You’ll get a big container! With many sushi places to choose from, skip this one. The sushi is good, but not for their prices.

Ordered delivery from TGI Oni Sushi tonight. Waited over an hour and a half only to be told that they were too busy so they were cancelling our order. Extremely frustrating considering it's now too late to order dinner anywhere else.

I have ordered takeout/delivery 6-8 times over the last 6 months. All but my most recent order have been awesome. Last night I ordered a Cali roll, tempura shrimp roll & seaweed salad(wakame). The wakame has never been even remotely spicy before and it was immensely spicy last night. It wasn’t even that I could separate chili flakes/pieces, it was all spicy. Couldn’t get past 2 bites. It’s totally fine for it to be spicy but to have changed it without notice was upsetting. I’ve ordered the Cali roll almost every time and it’s always 8 pieces and wonderful. Last night I got a wonky-cut 6 piece roll, which, sure okay, but then the taste….what I know expired imitation crab to taste like, absolutely gross. Then - The tempura shrimp roll - the shrimp was clear and obviously undercooked/semi-raw. I don’t understand how these 3 dishes all went so wrong after so many wonderful and delicious orders/food. Is there a new sushi chef? Was it just a “bad night?” I truly loved having a nearby place for when a friend wanted to buy me a meal (I’m disabled and broke, lol), and now feel so sad bc I don’t think I’ll trust to order again from them. Just wish I knew what went so wrong. Prior to last night’s order I’d have rated them 5/5 on every order (not always the friendliest staff for pick-up orders I’ll say), but I awoke to forceful vomiting at 2am and have had diarrhea all day. Would love an explanation of all 3 fails yet I’m doubtful I’ll get it, just glad DoorDash refunded my entire order.

Do not recoment.Not good quality. Knife skills make the sushi very unenjoyable and not proportional. I believe there were bones in my sushi which is shocking. The tempura I believe is previously froven and very over battered. Even the chicken teriyaki was not impressive.
