Opinions de Zante Pizza & Indian Cuisine Alameda
“Indian pizza so good I saw God. Then dipped it in curry.” (Zante’s: resourcefulness, curry, and pure creative genius.) Zante’s is the absolute bomb. Born in 1986, it's a gem of the mission district in San Francisco, it’s the kind of place you try once and then start planning birthdays around. I never had Indian pizza before Zante’s, but after polishing off a whole chicken tikka masala pizza, I had a vision of Ganesh. It's that good. The base is a crispy, golden crust with an authentic, creamy, spiced curry as the sauce, topped with tandoori chicken and herbs that belong nowhere near a pizza, and yet, it works like magic. I say that and I’m Italian. I know good pizza when I have it, Zantes is just the best. Zante Pizza & Indian Cuisine opened when Dalvinder “Tony” Multani bought an existing neighborhood pizzeria and kept its Greek name, but immediately began rolling his own dough and serving both classic pies and his family’s Indian dishes. Customers began suggesting a combination of the two, and before long Zante added its signature Indian pizzas, thin‑crust pies layered with spinach curry or chicken tikka masala sauce, mozzarella, and toppings like tandoori chicken, lamb, or eggplant. Recognized by SF Weekly as “Best Indian Pizza”. It is close to where my brother used to live, that's how I found out about it. I happened to visit him a lot that semester. You know me, I always mean business. When I go I get a full serving of chicken tikka masala curry and dip the pizza into it. It’s full feral mode: sauce everywhere, breathing optional. Add a cold Taj Mahal lager and it’s bliss. I usually end up with none to take home. I’ve gone two birthdays in a row. Zante’s isn’t fusion, it's just another day at the temple, with guaranteed enlightenment.
Absolutely delicious (especially in these peculiar times)!! Unfortunately they were out of the veg masala pizza, but the spinach option was still impeccable! My ~dining partner~ and myself were definitely impressed (and it was his first time having Indian-fusion pizza)! EDIT: I’ve gone two times since and both times they had the masala pizza and every darn time it’s impeccable — five stars is standing the test of time ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ EDIT ON EDIT: I CANNOT GET ENOUGH!!!! We just ordered the spinach veg pizza and we’re freaking out about how delicious it is! Pro tip: order directly from Zante’s (my dining partner suggests eating it in bed with your beautiful gf). YET ANOTHER EDIT: I finally took a pic! But only remembering after diving in.
Zante’s makes a great pie. The classic kinda take-out-pizza crust look, but very light and fluffy with a great flavor. Lots of toppings, nicely cooked and just a bit browned. The Indian pizzas are great, after ordering a few times I recommend the Indian chicken masala/paneer masala 1/2 PLUS a curry to dip it in. 🔥🔥🔥
the Chicken Tikka Masala pizza was life changing. That is not hyperbole. This pie belongs in the Smithsonian. Eating it, I felt I was entering a globalist, borderless future and eating a pie as a citizen of the United Nations of Earth. as a traveling New Yorker: I am quick to criticize any slice of pizza I eat outside of the city, but this pie is unimpeachable. If you are a local or if you're a traveler, you MUST try this pie.
Pizza here is exceptional, but that the secondary thing. The most amazing part was the love with which they fed us. The service provided by Prince was outstanding. He was so warm and welcoming. Before taking order he explained all the best options they had, and after getting the food, he explained us what had gone into that pizza. They are very proud of the pizza they have created, and they should be. The pizza here are very unique and burst with flavors. We had ordered half veg and half butter chicken XL pizza for 4 of us. They were so loaded, we had to get 1/4 of it home. Prince also promised us to prepare a even more special pizza next time we visit them.
This place is probably the best place for Indian Food in all of bay area! I love their pizza's as you can really taste the spices and flavor to it compared to other places. They can make it spicy or not but both are amazing. Customer service is even better! I have been coming to this place for over 20 years!!
Zante's is amazing. They recently delivered 21 pizzas to our picnic in golden gate park for a big gathering. I just called ahead a couple days and texted them a pin to where we were since there isn't an address to go to, they delivered it right to the area. Everyone loved the options - both the indian pizzas and the combo/pepperoni/plain cheese for the kids. My personal favorite is the vegetarian paneer. The vegan one was very popular as well with my vegan friends. It was great to be able to order from a place that can accommodate a lot of dietary requirements! We ordered Zante's delivery pretty often when I lived in the Mission in the past and I was excited to share a favorite restaurant's food with so many friends that hadn't had something like this before. It was really great that they were willing to deliver a giant order across the city to a spot without an address. They guy on the phone immediately said "no problem" - it's a really nice group of people running the business as well. Thank you!!!
Excellent Indian food. Love the Tandoori prawns and chicken tikka masala. Their Nan is the best I’ve ever had. Get the garlic Nan for best flavor. Service was good, but decor and ambiance has not changed for over 25 years.
Tasty Indian flavors on top of fresh baked bread. It's Indian food, but it's a pizza! Also a great value... Very reasonable prices!
This is an HIDDEN GEM. My boyfriend brought me to this place a few days ago and I was skeptical at the thought of an Indian Pizza place. All my doubts have been firmly wiped away. The pizza and especially the crust were phenomenal (and I almost never eat pizza crust). You can ask for a mint and tamarind chutney to dip your pizza in, which again sounds weird but was life changing. We had the Indian veggie pizza (without cauliflower because of an allergy) and I was blown away. My BF mentioned this place has been around for 15+ years and I'm shocked that there isn't a line around the block. I feel like the owners could do a bit more to boost their online presence, website, marketing story, etc. But when it comes down to the quality of the food. I have to say I'll be going back here often.
Every time I come to the city, I get a pizza from here. The pizza is amazing and packed with flavor. I never thought an Indian pizza would be such a favorite for me but I’ve been back year after year.
OG spot for getting amazing content India Pizza. These guys have been making this since the 80s. They know how to make it. The staff is kind and has always taken great care of us and friends.
It’s a one of its kind, category leading pizza. My life is better from having this experience. Thank you to Zante for making this work of art. When the pizza museum is updated 500 years from now, this pie will have a very special placement.
Best Indian pizza, highly suggest. Authentic flavors and really fresh
I recently visited Zante's Pizza and I must say, I was blown away by the amazing food and friendly customer service. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious pizza and Indian fusion cuisine. First and foremost, the food was incredible. I ordered The Best Indian Pizza- Vegetarian Half and The Best Indian Pizza with Paneer masala, and both were bursting with flavor. The crust was crispy and the toppings were fresh and perfectly cooked. The chutney sauces that were provided with each pizza added an extra layer of deliciousness and I highly recommend trying them with all the dishes. In addition to the pizzas, I also ordered Vegetable Pakora and Paneer Pakora, both of which were crispy, savory and flavorful. The dipping sauces that accompanied the pakoras were also outstanding. The customer service at Zante's Pizza was also top-notch. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and they made sure that I had everything I needed throughout my meal. They even took the time to explain the different chutney sauces and recommended which ones would go best with each dish. One small recommendation for the pizzas is to add more sauce. It really makes a difference in bringing out the flavors of the toppings. Overall, I highly recommend Zante's Pizza to anyone looking for amazing pizza and Indian fusion cuisine. Make sure to try the chutney sauces with all the dishes! Here's a breakdown of what I ordered: - The Best Indian Pizza- Vegetarian Half - The Best Indian Pizza with Paneer masala (Half) - Vegetable Pakora - Paneer Pakora - Papar
Some of the best breads I’ve ever tasted! The Indian pizza was delicious! Our waiter was really hospitable and funny. Service was quick. The food was amazing. If you’re a fan of pizza and have never tried Indian pizza from this place, do yourself a favor and try this place asap! You won’t regret it.
We came here to try the paneer tikka masala pizza and it was INCREDIBLE. This is a stand out pizza, super flavorful on every level. It was so memorable I was thinking anout it days later. The inside of Zante is very unassuming and a bit dark but the table settings were nice and service was nice too. The pizza is a hidden treasure, go give it a try!
The Pizza at Zante is uniquely flavored, with my favorite Indian flavors. The dining room is dark and decorated with old school Goodwill looking furniture. I couldn't offer an opinion for service because I had to wait a long time at the counter to place an order. Parking is a challenge but I had luck on Cortland. Zante is worth a try.
Seriously the best and I mean the best Indian pizza in the whole Bay Area. Also with the kindest and most patient people working. You can feel the love and care in the food. I got the vegetarian Marsala slices to go the sauces they give you will blow you away. I got this food to go bit I have eaten inside in the past.
Glad they had pizza available for takeout. Tried the masala sauce pizza and it was very tasty! Loved the spiciness of the pizza as well. Will try more flavors next time around.
The Chicken Tiki Masala Pizza was amazing in spite of the previous 1 star response. It's not spicy like a plate of it, but it's pizza 🍕 If you plan to get it, call them. Don't use the "website." It's just a link to a disguised UberEATS.
This place is incredible. Draft IPA. Fresh ingredients. Lovely service. The bathrooms could use some freshening, but they are usable. We literally walked by and smelled the deliciousness. Walked in and we were not disappointed! Tandoori chicken pizza y'all!!!
One of the best unique pizzas I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and get the white yogurt sauce and green chutney to drizzle over your slices for extra awesomeness. 😍😍😍

There is no better deal for pizza in the Mission. The pizza is great, their large is actually a large pizza and the Indian pizzas are all pretty amazing. They're one of the few places that still delivers their own pizza so you don't pay an exorbitant fee and you can hand your tip to the guy at the door and he's always been really friendly.
Zantes is my happiest place in SF. Food is delicious, staff is friendly, service is on point. Its a vibe and I love it, hope they fo another 39 years strong!

People have said the staff is not very friendly, but I think they are just not talkative and to the point. The service was quick, our server kept our glasses full of water, and he correctly advised us to get a medium pizza over the large we were about to get — “medium for 2 people, large for 3.” This was spot on. We tried a medium pizza that was half chicken tikka masala and half paneer tikka masala. Enjoyed trying both.
We had the paneer tikka masala pizza, and it was interesting. For first timers, try this with an open and exploratory mindset, perhaps. I liked it better with the mint/yogurt sauce they provided. I love paneer and I love pizza, but the combination is not one I would go for again, personally, but hey - it's your call! The food was made fresh and cooked well. Their masala tea was excellent. The place itself was 1980s frozen in time, including the restroom, which could use a renovation.
A half and half! One half was the meat combo, the other was paneer. Had a great time eating pizza and hanging with friends that we completely lost track of time! The folks that work there are really nice and were very accommodating on multiple fronts!
The good: The Indian pizza itself is great. The service (delivery, packaging, etc.) was also very much up to par. The bad: The side dishes were mediocre (I had the lamb samosas and paneer pakora). And total price for everything was surprisingly high.

Only order takeout, and only order pizzas. You will be sorely disappointed otherwise. When I order whole pies to go, they're fresh and delicious. I drive over as soon as my credit card is charged instead of waiting for their phone call. Free delivery has also worked well, and they've even tried to deliver the pizza when I specified pickup 😅 Dining in is much worse. The staff don't check on you, so get used to walking around the partition to order, ask for water, and get takeout boxes. The aloo gobi and spinach soup were solid while the tikka masala was so bland that it was terrible. Those dishes were served about 20 minutes after ordering, while our pizza took 50 minutes! The interior is plain but serviceable, while the smoke will be irritating to those with sensitivities. Expect to pay $20 per person, maybe more, which is expensive considering the service and atmosphere. Finally for the curious, here are pizza sizes (ignoring 1 inch of crust): the small pizza is 10"≈78 in² (3.1 in² per dollar for the Best Pizza with Chicken), medium is 12"≈113 (3.7 per dollar), large is 14"≈154 (4.2 per dollar), and XL is 16"≈201 (4.8 per dollar). As for portions, assume 50 in² for a medium-hungry person, and 60-90 in² for people with bigger appetites.
Me & a friend went there for dinner in late-August 2023. The Masala Chai was mostly just boiled water. It didn't have the taste of the tea or the spices. It is best avoided here. The vegetarian Paneer pizza was tasty. It seemed like the paneer pieces weren't cooked much and were just placed above the dough before baking. Nevertheless, it tasted good. My friend had the chicken pizza but said it was poorer in taste. The chicken pieces were reddish in color and looked like it was dipped into a "red sauce" that overpowered in taste. My friend couldn't taste the chicken that much. He didn't eat the final two slices. The restrooms can be cleaner, but they were fine for me. The server was great and super-friendly. He recommended the pizza toppings for us. No complains about the service. Overall, I don't think it's worth a visit if you're exploring the city as a tourist. If you live in the Bay Area, you can visit once. I've had better Indian Pizzas elsewhere in the Bay Area (esp. Sunnyvale and Santa Clara).
I remember eating here many years ago and found it interesting and refreshing. Today, with the plethora of Indian pizza joints in the Bay, Zante has sadly fallen. The poorly lit interior with barebones decor and faded posters must invoke a cozy atmosphere, but in reality comes off a bit depressing once the food comes out. The paneer pakoras were barely salted or spiced. The spinach soup had giant pieces of ginger floating in it. The onion bhaji, while crunchy, did not elevate or transport to a good experience. It's really hard to mess up pakoras for a joint that's been around for decades, but that's the sad reality. The pizza somewhat compensated for the experience. It was as delicious as I remembered it to be with the tikka masala sauce leading the charge. But, overall the place has lost its zing.
Here's the sober truth, unless you're wasted, this food and experience will be subpar. We came here with high expectations due to Zantes touting the 'best Indian pizza' in the bay and... well, it's far from that. The pizza is doughy, lacks flavour and worst of all is dry. So dry that we asked for extra tikka masala sauce for our pizza after we started eating and they brought us a full order of tikka masala that they also charged us for. If you are in the mood for Indian food, try the place next door 'spicy bite' and if you're really craving Indian pizza, try another spot.
Not bad. The Indian pizza tastes like curry on pizza crust. It’s served with a yoghurt sauce and sweet sauce. They also sell by the slice and that is probably what you should get if it’s your first time. Can’t speak for the rest of the menu.

Overrated place, we read a few good reviews of this place and decided to visit, the chicken tikka pizza tasted bland, the meat wasn’t properly cooked either, and we finished the pizza just for the sake of it. The green chutney served with the pizza also tasted bland. The service was prompt, but the waiter seemed weird in his mannerisms. The place is located right next to the intersection of Mission and Cortland. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place which is overrated like anything.
Ordered from their website and it didn’t seem to work. I called them after 15 min and no one answered the phone. I showed up at the restaurant about an hour after ordering and they told me they didn’t get my order so I left. 10 min later as I was getting in my car to leave the area they called me and said my order was ready so I went back and paid via credit card. What they gave me was not what I ordered and I was disappointed in the pizza they gave me. It didn’t have sauce or the ingredients I ordered online. I think maybe they just gave me something they had ready in order to get me to come back? Very confusing!
Ordered a pizza and vegetable pakora. It took 1 hour and 45 mins to get to us. It got here cold. When I called the store the customer service was awful. I asked them for an update since it had been 1 hr and 15 mins late and they gave me a major attitude when I said I was worried the food would be cold. Food was fine but I can’t really say since it came cold.
This review is for those coming to eat here as a destination. I think the pizza scores points for the quality of the crust and the aroma. But for everything else, there are better options near you

Worst experience I have had till date. They served warm beer and gave us a glass filled with ice to make it colder. The pizza was tasteless, I almost feel like they forgot to put the sauce on the base altogether. My wife and I felt nauseous after the first bite, tried it with the chutney too which was watered down. The owner stopped by and his response to my feedback was that it must be my first time here, he has been in this business for 36 years and no one has complained about the pizza. He was super rude and he spilled water on me because he was frustrated and couldn’t conduct himself gracefully. We had no choice but to walkout after this experience.
I ordered a single large pizza and it’s taken over 2 hours for it to arrive. With very minimal communication. I don’t recommend ordering delivery from this place.
