Opinions de Komaaj San Francisco
Great sit down location for amazing food, drink menu, and great atmosphere that feels so homey. I’m Iranian and I still find myself trying new dishes and twists on ingredients at Komajj. I highly recommend any fish and chicken dishes here. Northern Iranian food is known for their fish preparation and the chicken dishes only use thighs so they are supper tender. The platter is also a must. It’s a bit pricey, but I just love their pomegranate walnut dip and the fava bean dip as pictures. So so good. The quality of ingredients, preparation, and presentation really make Komajj so special. I always come here for special occasions or if I want to impress someone of my knowledge of San Francisco hidden gems.
A true taste of northern Iran—authentic flavors you won’t find at regular Persian restaurants. The staffs are lovely and attentive, and the food is so amazing I always find myself craving it. Definitely a place I keep coming back to!
Spectacular and authentic food! Truly enjoyed the experience here at this beautiful restaurant featuring authentic north Iranian food. Motanjan (chicken) dish was our favorite, full of flavors. It really impressed us. The drinks were refreshing and great. Service was equally top notch thanks to Nazanin.
Komaj is the real deal when it comes to Northern Iranian food right here in the Bay! I’d heard about it back when I was in the Midwest, but never had the chance to try it finally made it yesterday and wow… totally worth the wait. If you’re craving Shomali flavors or just want to treat yourself to something unique, this spot delivers big time. Also, bring your American friends to represent Persian food! This is the kind of food they’ll never forget, authentic, flavorful, and something you can’t really find anywhere else. I’m already planning my next trip back to dive into the rest of the menu. Can’t wait!😍
Everything was absolutely delicious! The location has a very authentic feel, with traditional music and a well. We shared the “La Wildfire Fundraiser” plate, and it was incredible—the mix of meat with plums and berries was a perfect combination. I also had the pomegranate chicken, which came with a rice salad and jam on the side. The chicken was perfectly cooked, tender, and melted in my mouth—absolutely amazing. Service was fast and attentive. I also tried the pomegranate juice, which was pure and unsweetened—highly recommended! For a more authentic experience, I’d also suggest trying the Iranian doogh. Overall, a fantastic meal and a great spot for enjoying Iranian flavors!
The food, service, hospitality, and atmosphere were awesome! Definitely will come back and highly recommended!
Amazing food, authentic atmosphere, great service, reasonable price, just like a big family dining table. Held a business lunch for 12, everyone loved the food, the welcoming staff, and the atmosphere of comfort, colors and flavor. A dedicated group of professional designers, we all appreciated attention to detail. From the music to the wooden bowls, it was a transformative experience that took us all to a special place. Highly recommend for a big group or an intimate encounter.
It was my first time in Komaaj, and I’m sure I’ll be back there again and again as everything was perfect there. The restaurant was designed very nicely and completely in Persian style. My partner and I enjoyed food, atmosphere, the hospitality and cheerfulness of the owner. He explained the details about food and recipe very nicely and friendly. Then we picked two beers with a Persian name “Shams” which we enjoyed a lot. Finally our food was served. The most delicious smoked trout we had ever had and pomegranate chicken. I strongly suggest trying the food in there.
incredible food! i went with a Persian friend who said it tasted exactly like his great-grandma’s cooking ❤️ got the salmon dish- very rich and salty. the fish was similar to Yurok-style preserved salmon. so unique and amazing! my friend got the chicken which had the best sauce i’ve ever tasted. 10/10
Amazing Persian food, I say a fusion style of Rashti/Gilaki food. Brilliant service and wine.
We’ve been wanting to try Komaaj for quite some time, and finally had a free afternoon to stop in mid-week. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and there were plenty of GF options for us! We opted for the rice plates with chicken and salmon, and we were not disappointed! The meats were so flavorful- tender and cooked to perfection! The plates were filled with lovely savory, and sweet/tart flavors (the pomegranate sauce was fantastic!). We can’t wait to come back and try the stews on the weekends, and look forward to the grand opening of the full dining room.
Such unique food from northern Iran, with great service and vibes. Highly recommend ! This is not your typical Iranian restaurant where they only sell kabob and play Spanish guitar. This is way better for true authentic cuisine.
We wanted to try something different for Sunday “brunch” (not another Eggs Benedict place) and found this on OpenTable. This was one of the times when the ratings between Google search and OpenTable were aligned. The dishes were fresh, herbal, soothing. There was a good mix of sweet, salty, fat, acid flavors and smooth, crunchy, creamy, soupy textures. Eating vegetarian is easy to do here. The service was very friendly.

Everything was we had was delicious. I would highly recommend the marinated olives and the eggplant as starters. The sour chicken was outstanding. The outdoor seating was spacious and comfortable. The service was friendly and quick. I will definitely return to try their other dishes.
Wowww such an amazing restaurant!!! I am both vegan and iranian and give 5 stars from both viewpoints! Very authentic flavorful persian food. And so amazing that they had an abundance of vegan options too! Made it a great spot for the whole family. Very high quality ingredients, beautiful atmosphere, and the server was so hospitable and sweet. Highly recommend!!!
This place is amazing - food was fantastic, cozy atmosphere, and very kind service. Best restaurant I have been to in a long time. Eggplant - tomato dip was fantastic as were the chickpeas in my main dish. The rose tea is very nice as well.

That was my first try of an Iranian restaurant, and no regrets, I'd go back in a heartbeat. I love the interior of Komaaj, feels like somebodys house or living room. Very inviting and cozy. We tried only two dishes. Their mezze platter for two and the tumeric. Chicken over pomegranate rice. On their platter, every dish is rather special the only let down was the bread. Tasted a bit like an old cracker to me, I wish they offer different options, even a fresh banquet would work. The olives were out of this world, the smokey eggplant is simply divine. The chicken... Amazing just felt off the bone and complimented the rice. Overall a really good experience., the wine ... takes a bit getting used too. We tried their Armenian reds. I wouldnt rave about them, but hi we tried. Certainly kudos to the chef and team, I will certainly come back.

Komaaj in San Francisco offers a delightful Northern Iranian culinary experience. The menu features a variety of authentic dishes, all prepared with fresh ingredients. The restaurant's ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it an ideal spot for both dining and social gatherings. While the flavors are rich and satisfying, some dishes may have been subtly adjusted to cater to a broader tastes. The location is convenient, and the atmosphere is enhanced by thoughtful decor. However, the music selection could be refined to better complement the dining experience. Overall, Komaaj successfully brings the aromas and colors of Iranian cuisine to San Francisco, providing a memorable dining experience.
I love Persian food and this is Northern Iranian food. It's different from Southern Iranian food. Just like other reviews, the food is sweeter than I am used too. Food was good and service was great. There are a lot of vegan options. This is a different food region of Iran, so don't expect Southern Iranian/Persian food. I loved the rustic interior, it felt very homey.
I was looking forward to trying this place but I was a bit disappointed. I’m not sure it’s common but all the dishes we had were a bit sweet even all the dips. The mezze plate with different dips were good but definitely overpriced ($36?) since the portion is pretty small and they gave you few crackers (they call it bread but it’s close to a cracker) and we asked if we can get 1-2 more and the server brought 5-6 and charged. (At least you should get informed if we had to pay for it) The chicken was good but also not amazing. I don’t think I will go back.
This is a cozy restaurant with friendly staff. We loved their hospitality and the speed of their service. A great option for take out order. Sour chicken stew is their winning card. You can taste the careful mix of the herbs with pomegranate paste. The quality of the vegetables and the paste used in the stew could have been better, but it's just an issue of the poor quality ingredients. The quality pf rice was below average. It's called katte on the menu but all you get is an undercooked rice. It was a disappointing taste. Number of items on the menu were limited. We tried their smoked salmon, mirza ghasemi, with doogh and sharbat sekanjebi, beside the sour chicken stew. Doogh was perfect. Sharbat sekanjebin wasn't tasting as we'd expected. Smoked salmon was too salty, although they mentioned its going to be salty... Mirza ghasemi was decent. They have recently relocated their business and we wish for their success. We'll go back for the sour chicken stew!

Komaaj Restaurant When we arrived, there was no one to greet us, and we had to look around for someone, even though the place was quite small. Once we sat down, the customer service was very poor. The appetizer was tasty, but the sangak bread was very old and extremely hard, making it difficult to eat without causing tooth pain. We requested more bread, hoping for a fresher batch, but they charged us extra for it. The main dish was delicious, but the service was extremely slow and disappointing. Considering the food quality, the prices were quite high. It’s worth trying once, but make sure to request fresh bread and don’t expect good service.
