This is the best Algerian Food in NYC. The owners and his staff are super friendly too. Highly recommended!!!
This place is a true hidden gem. The merguez is phenomenal. It’s so affordable, anyone can enjoy an amazing meal for a low price.
Best Algerian street food in NYC … I recomend the Frites-omelettes with liver, karantika and Mehajed….loved it 👌
Best North African / Algerian food place in the city! Loved it, will come back, I recommend :)
If you miss dzayer and want a taste of home, this is the place. Delicious food
The food is delicious. Not sure why the order online ain’t working anymore. Overall great service
Please believer. A garantita in baguette, algerian liver in baguette, or algerian sausage sandwich here is delicious and unique. Please try!
It is an authentic algerian fast food restaurant with a genuine rustic down to earth atmosphere!
Delicious, affordable, filling food, and a warm, friendly, nice owner!
Small and friendly store but wow the food is good! I got the merguez sandwich and it was delicious. Tastes great even if you are not familiar with North African food.
Not the fanciest place but sometimes that’s where you find the best food, the Merguez & Frites, the place’s namesake is a must try.
I thought I knew good food till I tried Algerian BAKED HUMMUS! Wow guys not sure if it's a daily special or what but on Saturday if you have nothing to do and need an adventure with the treasure that's worth it - go to Merguez and Friters and ask for a bigger spoon!
Excellent food and authentic taste. I’ve eaten here several times and live in the neighborhood. Couldn’t be happier.
This is the best sandwich not only in Steinway, but in all of Astoria !! Give the half chicken half koufta a shot it is my go to ! Make sure you ask for extra Algerian sauce; wallah it is the best !! Yum!!
The merguez frites sandwich “the works” is simply delicious! It comes with the right amount of spicy. The dudes there are cool. We also tried the algerian pizzas, also delicious. This area of queens has great food choices (Duzan, Abuqir, Al-Sham Sweets) with very reasonable prices and little known to outsiders. You can have an iconic food experience just on this block.
Best in nyc hands down
Excellent food and excellent service! Great prices, too!
Really fantastic food and great service. Had the merguez sandwich, pizza, stuffed Flatbread and chickpea cake and all were delicious. Would recommend.
This place has been on my list for months, finally got here and I was not disappointed. The merguez and frites sandwhich was fantastic, so was the pizza. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well. Will be back here again soon.
I don’t understand how anybody gave this AMAZING place anything less than 5 stars! Family owned and operated, incredible food and very fairly priced! THANK YOU !!
this is by far the best Mediterranean sausage (mergez) sandwich i have ever eaten , the pizza is just amazing for who likes simple pizza , just a touch of real tomato sauce , cilantro and a genuine black olive , i love everything you have ,thank you so much 😋
Y’all have got to try this place out. Such amazing and hard working staff
Very yummy Merguez Sandwich and very kind staff. Brings back memories from my home in North Africa. Highly recommend the restaurant!!!
Amazing food, amazing service . My food was made under 10 mins and tasted extremely fresh and delicious! Highly recommend anyone to try them out and I can’t wait to return !
Merguez frites sandwich was great.. perfect amount of heat. Friendly staff even brought us some extra food to try.
Merguez sandwich was poppin, really enjoyable So was the pizza!
The food was so delicious 🤤 but little bit expensive ✨
Delicious Algerian food! The owner and the staff are lovely and super helpful. Highly recommend.
Best restaurant in Astoria, perfect quality ! Very good Frites omlette sandwich Frites omlette, I felt I was in Ferdjioua.
Best Algerian spot in the country
I stumbled on this amazing Algerian restaurant quite serendipitously when I attended NYC for my medical training. I fell in love with the food and the authentic experience. I will definitely be coming here every time I come back to NYC and I’d like to express my most sincere appreciation to both Mateen and Sofiane for their fantastic hospitality and wonderful service.
I was there on oct. 7/23. the food absolutely delicious, friendly neighborhood Algerian restaurant. Owner Hamid was grateful & nice enough to get us Uber back to Manhattan while was pouring rain with 3 kids. Definitely, we are coming back if come back to Newyork.
I was exploring the area looking for some Arabic spots and once I saw this I had to get a merguez sandwich. It was my favorite growing up and it was a treat finding a place that does it right here. I tried the merguez and kofta and both were op point! I highly recommend this restaurant if youre looking for affordable north african street food.
I was there couple times this week on our new york stay and to be honest, they beat all expectations , service, quality and prices for astoria's algerian food.we were craving some authentic algerian food and yes they have them. Garantina, pizza carree, merguez, burgers, mtewem, and more. Kudos to the latino cooks who knew how to create a warm welcoming atmosphere. ( By the way, get more jaritos drinks. 😉)
I called out of desperation to find merguez sausages to serve as an appetizer for Thanksgiving. The owner was kind enough to tell me what butcher to go to. I will be going to this restaurant at the earliest convenience to support their business. So kind, so wonderful!
this place is tier, got half roasted chicken and fries and extra harissa. my boyfriend got the merguez with lamb sausage. Blown away, 100% authentic, clean , you will feel like you eat at home.
This place is awesome! Very quaint, extremely nice workers, and delicious food! It was recommended to me to have both the merguez and kofta sandwiches - each were so good! Great local hole in the wall in the neighborhood.
Best north African restaurant ever in the city when it comes their high quality big portions food versus low affordable price. Would highly recommend to try their merguez fries sandwich or chicken and fries platter with sizeable pieces of bread on the side....very delicious and will make you feel full for the rest of the day or night ..
The best sandwiches I have ever tried in astoria . very tasty 😋 Guys try Algerian pizza, it's soo yummy. The stuff was very kind. Keep going. Just one thing,, Try to hang the menu.
I don’t understand why Algerian ppl gave a bad reviews with disrespect about their experience in the only one who dared opening an Algerian fast-food. Guys be grateful and be respectful and help your community growing and prosper , I personally know the owner and he is such a great guy and super generous. He’s also open for constructive critics and suggestions. And sincerely is the best algerian sandwich in the city and the only one who does ( kelb elouz ) in the whole usa. Good luck and keep going .
I didn’t really enjoy the merguez but the potato patty with meat inside was so good 🥹 friendly staff, good prices
This place is one of the few legit North African places in the city. Hope they stay open (and forever keep kebda on the menu)!
Simple, laid back, and amazing food! The merguez and the bread are excellent
Merguez sandwich is very tasty! I never tried it but it was a bit juicy with a good bite, and had good flavor, not too spicy but definitely some hints of onion and cumin, etc. Good bread and sauces. The chef who made my sandwich was very nice too
I got the Algerian Cheeseburger, and I must say a great bang for your buck. A very wholesome well seasoned flavorful burger, for $12 with fries great meal. add an extra 1.50 for a bev. They aren’t cheap with meat or fries.
Great food. Tasty and authentic. Very friendly people.
I've been eating here as a fast food. I can say it's the best in the region in terms of authentic food and atmosphere!
I love merguez and fries. Reminds me of my time in France in 90s. What a treat, pizza merguez frites et flan to be shared for 2. Loved the food and service was great. Just one note (make sure fries are re-heated before mating with bread and merguez).
First and foremost their food is exceptional comfort food - from the flavor profiles to the way it’s cooked, it’s nice to have them in the neighborhood and a few blocks away at that! Their platters are good for a full dinner meal, they usually throw in a few pieces of bread as well. Their sandwiches are fresh and well balanced - overall delicious. Their customer service is top notch and everyone is kind. My one and only gripe? Their consistency with delivery. It’s such a 50/50 experience. It’s either they’re out of something you order or it’s cancelled altogether, mind you I’m not ordering right before closing but 2/3 hours before - really frustrating aspect of their business because we at the end of the day, we just want good food and to give them our business. I hope they improve on foresight and broadcasting, because it’s vital to customer retention. However! - never had a problem ordering in person. Cheers to Merguez & Frites! Love them despite the deliver issues and they are SO WORTH IT!
This place has always been great. I love their authentic flavors and generous portions for a fair price. Today I decided to call in for a sandwich while waiting outside on my bike. The cashier was super friendly and helpful and even gave me a slice of their awesome pizza to eat while I waited. Far more accommodating to a cyclist than I normally expect. Thanks guys!
This is a halal Algerian spot with very authentic food. They have sandwiches and platters and some flavorful side dishes. I had the merguez sandwich and chicken sandwich, and a couple side dishes. The Merguez was amazing, very delicious sausage type dish in a hero roll with fries inside. There's not a lot of seating space so it's a great takeout spot.
A must-stop every time I fly from LGA; their Pizza carré feels like it's been teleported from downtown Algiers streets. While I used to order the plain version, my latest visit introduced me to a new variant with toppings. It practically called my name, and naturally, I had to give it a try. The taste was absolutely delightful. Please disregard the somewhat unappealing white sauce I added on top – that's a common Algerian touch :)
My husband and I recently visited NYC and added this place to our list because of Action Bronson’s show. We ordered the merguez and frites sandwich and their Algerian cheeseburger. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. I am very picky when it comes to burgers because a lot of restaurants rely on condiments to give the burger flavor but the patty alone was packed with lots of flavor. Definitely would stop by again if we are ever in NY.
If it’s good enough for Bronson, it’s good enough for me. As a first time visitor here, I went with the classic Merg and Frites and the plain corner square slice. Let me tell you, no matter where you live, it is definitely worth the trip here. Flavorful, perfectly spiced, balanced. I know I’ll be back soon to explore their menu with the help of their super friendly staff. I just might be a Merguez and Frites Freak.
Absolutely fantastic sandwiches. After coming here for our first time, my friend and I had to revisit soon after. They’ve mastered the Merguez sandwich, although their others are definitely worth trying too! The staff is always friendly, and the whole restaurant smells amazing. If you’ve never had Algerian food, give them a try as soon as you can! Their Merguez is amazing and well seasoned. Truly couldn’t ask for anything better than what they’re serving here.
ALGERIA 🇩🇿 Excerpt from Eat the World NYC: Some addresses in New York City just seem to be cursed and never hold a tenant for very long. The previous business here was a not dissimilar Moroccan sandwich shop that only called it home for a short time. The newer owners hail from the neighbors to the east: Algeria, a country without a ton of representation in the city (One Algerian-ish place in the East Village and now-closed Bar Omar in Williamsburg precede this). The main offerings here are again sandwiches, those wildly popular on the streets of the capital Algiers and other cities. There you will find a diet high in meat intake, often with lamb being the most popular and readily available. The foods of France are of course no stranger to the once-colonized land, and baguettes circulate along with other Algerian breads. The combination of lamb, the French baguette, and fries which seem to find their way onto and into many other foods, give the place its name and a sense of what you will find. Looking to the top of the menu, the merguez frites ($7) seems like the obvious place to start here. The baguette is of very good quality, as are the sausages, especially for such a low price for a sandwich longer than a foot.
Very nice and simple cozy little dining area with very few tables. The food is delicious. kofta "ground beef" seasoned with Mediterranean spices. Margaz wish is there specialty is like sausage is served on a plate or in a sandwich. Over all the place looks very clean. In my opinion its a nice addition to the neighborhood 😋. The oven grilled half chicken is my favorite 😃 I'm afraid I will make chicken sounds in my sleep 😂 or get feathers on my skin from eating it so much 😋😂😂
Small spot that just opened up in the last week or so, with reasonable prices and some tasty food. Also randomly stock some Brazilian soda, don't know if guaraná is a big thing in Morocco or what, but it went well with everything else.
Live nearby and saw it on TikTok so I had to try. My first experience with Algerian food- got the merguez sandwich and a slice of pizza. The pizza crust is a very satisfying texture topped with a delicious sauce. The sandwich is very flavorful, where the spice builds and lasts without overpowering. Bread is good and the fries are soft but somehow crispy. Overall tasty, affordable, and has more of a quick street food vibe. Staff is really friendly.
Authentic DZ food!! My family and I got the loubia, karantika, a merguez sandwich and a kefta sandwich. Loved the sandwiches; good meat flavor and great spicy sauces. The loubia was simple but comforting, and the karantika had a good flavor but the texture could have been better. Very reasonable prices and open late, so a really solid spot for a quick, delicious bite :)).
The food is good, and prices are reasonable. My friends and I are practically regulars, but the latest salesperson they hired is rude, and makes me not want to go back there.
My recent foray into North African culinary treasures led me to try the Merguez sandwich, highly recommended as an exotic delicacy. The prime element that appealed to me was that they cook each order individually, ensuring freshness and a hot plate. The Merguez sausage, the hero of the dish, carried a distinct taste. An interesting blend of spices and textures that hinted at the rich traditions of the North African cuisine, it certainly brought something new to the table. However, the uniqueness of the sausage's flavor failed to create an alluring impression, being interesting, but somewhat unremarkable. The complexity of the sauce was another noteworthy aspect. It was suggested that four different sauces were layered within the sandwich, but unfortunately, they seemed to amalgamate into an indistinctive taste. The inability to distinguish between these supposedly diverse condiments resulted in a lost opportunity to celebrate the versatility of North African flavors. The topping of the sandwich, the frites, was quite the paradox. Fried fresh to order, they promised a crisp texture and warm, fluffy interior. Disappointingly, they ended up being somewhat mushy, potentially due to the steam trapped within the sandwich. This reduced the contrasting textures that could have otherwise made the dish much more enjoyable. In conclusion, while the Merguez and Frites offered a glimpse into the world of North African cuisine, it fell short of making a lasting impression. The freshness of the ingredients is commendable, but the overall experience would have been greatly enhanced with more distinctive flavors and a better execution of textures. I look forward to trying other dishes in the hopes that they showcase the richness and diversity of North African cuisine more effectively.
Bad service honestly , they don’t have a real menu , the prices are depending their mood or business . they charge me different prices every time I go there , its not the best place for Algerian food , i don’t understand why people keep giving this restaurant 5 stars They should improve the quality of food and service.
Small hole in the wall operation manned by 3 men. The service was great, we were given an almond cake as a treat for free. However, the food was flavourless. The rice had no seasonings and so did the meat, it didn’t have enough salt or spices for that matter. The granatita or chickpea pie needed more cumin. Overall sub par food.
Algerian food yes, lacks flavor, the sandwiches are the only good thing I had pizza can't say ordered paid never got it and they have fried food sitting there that they will reheat in the oven when you order, the 2 guys working were nice and helpful but forgot to put 2 pizzas in my bag I was back in NJ by the time I noticed but if I'm being honest I will go out my way to the other place that sells Algerian food. Probably why they have a B score
the food here is mid and the people that work here are really nice. didn't like the white bread - which is 70% of the sandwich. didn't like the fries, thought they were old, another 15% of the sandwich. They didn't have sauces when I asked for them. hole in the wall style, with small seating area. DO NOT order the $14 mixed sandwich. It is not worth it!!!!! all the other sandwiches are $10 and put the same amount of meat - order these!
The restaurant it's so hot in dinner room fix your AC body
Extremely dirty, they don't wear gloves, the counter has old stains, the floor looked like it wasn't cleaned for months, avoid this so called restaurant, the people working there are very rude , the mexican guy was the only nice person at this place.
Wanted to order from here after seeing them on Uber eats and wanted to support a local business. Made a order for a sandwich and they cancelled after fiddling around for 20 minutes. Guess they don’t want business ? Could of called and told me what’s going on?
The worse Sandwish i ever had, the owner very cheap. The fries smell old oil. Couscous very small potion meat almost nothing. Very dirty and it smell. I don’t recommend it
I have been recommended this place by a friend of mine, sadly iv been overcharged 19$ for a single french tacos sandwich the excuse was that i asked for mixed instead of just chicken,to add 9$ to that request is mind blowing the sandwich didnt even had enough meat its all fries and grease, the mexican guy behind the counter who made my order was really impolite and unprofessional with a really strange attitude,i really hope the owner takes this to consideration.
One of the salespeople is acting rudely and is impolite to customers.
I wanted to try a plate and it was showing 14 dollar in the menu and then when all done they charged me 28 dollar after I complain they give my money back in cash. It’s so frustrating when people think you are stupid and they can stole your money.
