Loved this diner!! My waitress was AMAZING!! Very attentive and funny too! Food was delicious and reasonably priced as well!!
Fantastic breakfast w surprises including skinny burritos and fluffy pancakes w hot tasty coffee and refills! Wait staff quick and efficient and nice!
That Nancy …. is one of those incredibly nice people that your so happy you met. My wife Jennifer and I had a great time in part because of Nancy’s attention to creating a welcoming atmosphere. We highly enjoyed her company and the evening. The food was great and would highly recommend a visit. To Nancy and the staff thank you for everything.
First time we have been there we were on a trip in the area liked the way it looked read the reviews and decided to give it a try the place is absolutely clean service is amazing our server Valerie treated us like family and she was extremely helpful considering the place was very crowded spoke to the owner commended them on a great place we will definitely come back again great food great service great atmosphere.
The service here was amazing, the food was precious to my stomach. I loved how kind and friendly our sever was, loved her! I also fell in love with the design of the place. It was so luxurious and lovely.
Just had lunch there. No wait to be seated even though it was Saturday lunch time. Hostess was very pleasant!!! Our waitress ( Irene) was amazing, very thoughtful, quick and seemed happy to be there. We had an amazing meal, deserts were out of this world,we ordered 2 more to go . Food, service and atmosphere is 2nd to none. We WILL be returning for sure!!!!! Thank you for a delicious & relaxing meal!!!!
The matzo ball soup (huge tender matzo ball!) was the best I've ever had, including in NYC and Shaker Heights delis. The hot turkey and gravy sandwich was also delicious - and a more than generous serving. The atmosphere is comfortable and pleasant and the server was awesome. I will be back.
Classic diner experience at it's best. Staff is friendly and quick. Food selection is vast and everything I've had so far has been excellent. Comfortable seating. Love the atmosphere. Classic. Go and enjoy.
It was my first time visiting and the place looked nice and the waitress was nice. However I ordered meat loaf (which is $20 per entree) and it just wasn't good. The meatloaf had that texture like it had a lot of fillers and additives to make it soft. They did grill each peace to add texture but it wasn't enough for me. I still ate it though, to not waste money. I also got a nice crisp side salad (btw it comes with onions). I got mashed potatoes & corn on the cob as sides, and they were super fresh. I was happy with my overall experience, but when I return I'll try something different.
If you swing by Albany, GO HERE. 5/5 A classic diner and slice of Americana. Food is fresh, tasty and savory. Read on for more... Takeout $25ish Meatloaf and Mash 8/10 Fries 8/10 Salad 10/10 The meatloaf was sliced thin and heaped aplenty. Mash was thick, gravy done right. Salad a good balance to a hearty meal. Dine-In $honestly, i forget Farmer's Benny (Eggs Benedict) 7/10 Spinach 7/10 Home fries 7/10 More home fries than you can manage. Cooked crisp with a softer center. Farmers Benny was drenched in hollandaise sauce as it should be. For takeout, they gave me this nice bag. Ordered via Grubhub an hour before close on a Saturday night. This place gets alot of business and for good reason. Plenty of greek options on the menu. This is my go to diner for UPSTNY (upstate new york) Service is kind, attentive and prompt. Got my coffee topped off, food in a jiff, and bill at the right time. Gotta love that kind of service. If the owner is reading this, we long for dining options like this in Pittsburgh.
My first time at Capital City Diner, had a great time. The food was great: real homemade corned beef hash (not from a can!), scrambled eggs, tasty home fries, toast with lots of butter with an assortment of jellies, and a delicious pancake on the side. Oh, and the coffee was great! Server Bailey was awesome, the whole staff was friendly and attentive. Can't wait to visit again the next time I'm in Albany!
In going to the Capital City Diner I had read some of the reviews on Google. In reading these reviews, I found three main complaints. The first being that it was a poor acoustic set up and that it was too loud of an environment. The second being that the tables and chairs were too close together creating a clustered dining space. And lastly, the third point was that the new renovation to the diner itself took away from the original charm that the diner previously had. In my experience here just a few days ago. I have agreed on a couple points here. I do believe that the acoustics in the diner aren’t great, but that’s part of the territory you kind of give up by choosing to go to a diner. I have to say, I thought the tables were properly spaced. I thought everything was great, including the aesthetic of the diner, I am a fan of the new renovation. As far as food is concerned, I had the country breakfast triple-decker and it was delicious. I would recommend getting that and I would also recommend getting the Nutella Waffle with strawberries and cream. I had great service and will be back!
Honestly THE BEST restaurant I have ever been to in my life. My boyfriend and I traveled from Buffalo to the Albany area for a weekend getaway and our hotel was close by. Honestly the staff is super friendly and very welcoming, the food was above par so delicious, everything was so clean and tables were social distant due to covid which is great. We had never been asked if we wanted our toast buttered and it was the first time ever we’ve been asked that. Everything was above and beyond we even came back the next morning for breakfast before heading home. I would definitely be coming back to Albany for this diner. Absolutely amazing! UPDATE: My husband and I went back for dinner service on Dec 1 and the food was amazing and Emily the waitress was so attentive and kind. Honestly love coming back to Albany just for this diner. I always have such a great experience here!
food here is always good and plentiful. The service is generally very friendly- but when the restaurant is busy be prepared for it to potentially be on the slow side - which is understandable. \nYo…

Accommodated our family group of 12 on a busy Sunday morning by putting two table together, without any issue. Great service, food was exactly as ordered, coffee refilled when needed. All good!
Went on a busy, late Saturday morning. Had a short wait for a table for 4. The portions, with the exception of the tall stack of 4 big blueberry pancakes, were not large and slightly disappointing. A tall stack of French toast was 2 pieces, which could have easily been 3, but they tasted good. The omelettes were good but seemed smaller than the 3 egg omelettes I make at home or get at other diners. The coffee was nice and hot. Our server was friendly and, although very busy, attentive.
My name is Dorothy and Nancy is very awesome. She is very polite to me every time I come in the diner. I also wanted to suggest that you put some turkey sausages, turkey bacon. A lot of people eat these meats. If you could please add it to your menu I would appreciate it.
Large, clean diner with ample parking. No wait to be seated. Service was quick and professional. Food was fine. But it’s the noisiest diner I have yet to be in. Still, we liked it. And I liked our waiter. Middle aged fellow with a face mask. I liked that I could make eye contact across the room, look down at my empty coffee cup, and he got the message. That’s experience... ♿️
I have visited Capital City Diner a few times. Had either a breakfast or club sandwich. They were both made to order and we're both good. I went to the diner this time because of my desire for meat loaf and mashed potatoes. I did not want a full dinner. My waitress, Irene, who was exceptional, was trying to figure a way to fulfill my desire. We came up with a meat loaf sandwich and side of mashed potatoes. I could remove the bread or not. The Diner had a good crowd. She returned quite fast with the order and a smile. A very good presentation as you can see. Unfortunately, the meat loaf was commercial and fair at best. The potatoes were instant but was ok as was the gravy. Irene stopped back, asked how it was and asked if there was anything she could do. I told her not to worry. I would take the leftovers with me. I took 1/2 the sandwich and some potatoes with me. Heating them in a toaster oven made a big change . They were quite good. In fairness to the Diner, They have an extensive menu. I am sure most items were quite good. Fair prices and hard to make everything from scratch. The staff seemed very nice. Irene was upbeat, attentive, and helpful. The Diner was clean, bright, and had a good crowd.
Newly renovated, but otherwise the same I had one of many breakfasts at the Capital City Diner. I’m not sure why they needed to do such an extensive renovation. The restaurant area was fine. I’m not sure if they needed kitchen renovations. The renovated space is extremely noisy probably because there is no carpet no ceiling tiles nor anything to absorb the sound. The food continues to be good. The vegetable omelette was delicious and instead of toast I had a single pancake, not knowing prior that this option was available. It was really satisfying. Rather than the home fries, you can get tomato. Either grilled or raw and the grilled tomato is a wonderful complement to the eggs. This is a good dependable diner for any meal or in between. The people are nice and the prices are comparable to similar places. No amazing enthusiasm but also no complaints. Update 2/18/25: went for brunch. Sat at the counter today first time post renovation. Do not like it as well. The higher stools make it more like a bar than a diner counter. Had Valerie for my waitress….added to the experience. Omelette was good, somewhat overdone but good. Really substantial mugs for coffee are a nice touch. Reliably good with good service and nice people.
Vegan options. Nice waitstaff. Good atmosphere, I never feel rushed although it's always so busy.

Nice, attractive, modern diner. Very clean with plenty of parking. Food was good, and reasonably priced. Our server was spot on. But acoustically, it is a very noisy place.

Nothing bad....Nothing great. Overall a good diner breakfast. Eggs were cooked as requested, meats where ok, home fries were good, coffee hot and good.
Went today to check out the new renovation. Although it wouldn’t be the same as it was, it’s not better. I feel it’s lost its local charm and now looks pretty generic. Additionally, although I had a wonderful waitress, the service was very slow. This could be due to the fact that is new and therefore packed. The food was okay but nothing to rave about. I used to go here a lot. I doubt I will choose it again unless others I am out with choose to go.
Seat was dirty. Food was expensive for (terrible food) not amazing quality. I was expecting a good diner dinner but this honestly looked like reheated food. I bite into a French fry and it tasted rotten. Service from our waiter was 2/5. He could’ve done more but he was literally no where to be found. It was just us. No napkins.. The waitress though was helping her 10 tables. I’m glad I tried it to know, I wouldn’t recommend coming here.
Went for breakfast. The sausage gravy was underseasoned and served on disturbingly fluffy flavorless biscuits that I doubt were made in-house. Tried a $7 slice of banana cream pie that had bland we…

Worst place ever! It was my birthday and they treated me like crap. The waitress had food in her teeth and kept biting her nails. At one point, she even picked her butt when she walked by. Absolutely vile. Gross. Never again.
