Opinions de Johnny Boi Smash Burgers Albany
27Aug24. Edited to add: They have a new permanent menu with more items. The prices for fries/tater tots are lower than when they first opened. They also have Mexican Pepsi (sugar, not HFCS). There is a new item, the TROMPO (essentially a Johnny Boi burger topped with al pastor, American swiss cheese, pineapple and Chipotle sauce instead of their smash sauce, caramelized onions instead of jam), which I'll try on my next visit. They also added a "Little Bellies" menu for kids - Mini Smash and Kiddo Tenders - both come with fries or tots. Juice box, too, all at a great price. NOTE: I was charged a 3% credit card surcharge for using Google Wallet. I didn't know until I looked at the full transaction receipt sent to my email. I'm not too keen about that and may bring cash from now on. ORIGINAL POST: Point Richmond has a new eatery! Located on the corner of Tewksbury and Santa Fe Avenues with the bike path located conveniently in front, Johnny boi is brought to you by the same owners of Masa Tamale & Taqueria. They are currently serving food under a soft open with a limited menu, and anticipate their grand opening sometime in the next 2-3 weeks with a full menu to include Impossible (vegan) burgers and shakes. Their liquor license for beer and wine is forthcoming, but for now expect your standard soda fountain selection. They are working on getting their website up soon. We ordered at the counter, and when your food is ready they call your name to pick up your food. Water, napkins and cutlery are at the end of the counter. We ordered a Johnni Boi ($9) and a Burger bowl ($8). Both come with a smashed patty topped with American cheese, smash sauce, bacon jam, pickles and caramelized onions. The bowl also had two slices of tomato and shredded lettuce, while the Johnny Boi did not. (You do get those on the Fat Boi, which contains a double patty ($12). We shared a side of tater tots ($8) so the combination was a satisfying portion of food for the two of us. The Burger bowl is gluten free (no bun). Our food was well cooked, the tater tots were crispy on the outside with a perfectly cooked texture on the inside. Thinking back, I think I would have enjoyed dipping my tater tots into their smash sauce instead of catsup, but that's just me. The majority of tables are high where you can sit or stand, but there are a few along the walls that are of standard height. The murals on the walls are gorgeous and I love that the artist embraced tagging, something you see everywhere in Richmond. There are four TVs in the middle of the room facing opposite directions, something the sports viewers might enjoy. The current plan is to be open seven days a week, 10am - 10pm for you late night eaters. I am looking forward to their grand opening and checking out the rest of their menu. Johnny boi smash burgers is guaranteed to be a smash in Point Richmond!
My sister text a picture of her food here and I'm salivating over it for weeks. When I came in town she brought me here and we made a pact to go everytime I'm in town. This meal was exactly what I needed. Im told ots a unless burger and it ate like a cheeseburger salad everything was FRESH and tasty. It's in a nice location in Point Richmond you can take a scroll around the community, and if you need a hair appointment you can visit nearby Beauty by Nature and see Wyvonne. She will not disappoint. Johnny Boi has become my favorite eatery in the Bay Area even the restroom was clean. Blessings to everyone at Johnny Boi Smash and their families and customers. Oh wait, this includes me, lol.
Got take out, food was awesome, kinda hard to find parking, but worth it, nice little hide away burger joint, smash burger and tater tots were delicious.
Excellent smash burgers and sides. Very cool vibe and space (4 TVs and solid music). I've been 4 times in their first 3 weeks of opening. In my opinion the prices are very reasonable. Big fan of the burgers, but the chicken sandwich is really good as well. Tots were super crispy and airy. Onion rings really great as well. Fries are solid but I'll likely go with tots most times. Nice that they offer thin Impossible burgers as well. Plan to go and enjoy the atmosphere for 10 minutes while they make your food fresh. Quality has been well worth it. Excited for upcoming additions of a pork sandwich, milkshakes, and beer!
Burgers were delicious. Nice vibes. Staff very helpful. Dope artwork. Prices very decent. Fries were excellent and mine had some tater tots.
🔥 🔥 🔥 just how I like my burgers, the interior design is dope 👌 and reps Rich City all day. And the location is really cool with a nice breeze coming off of the bay. To sum it up clean, delicious and stylish! Found me a new burger spot! Thanks Jonny Boi I'll see you again soon!
Great location, great service and beautiful mural/art. I love their shakes, BEST I've tried and burger patties were pretty good. The highway style tater tots were okay, for both that and my burger I think the caramelized onions could be better. It was really bland for "onions"
The burger was pretty tasty as were the fries and when I got back in line to order some wings to go I noticed that they had beer on tap so I got myself a 805 to drink while I waited for my wing order, which I haven't eaten yet but so far so good and I'll let y'all know.
Im from the LA area and the food here was great. Haven't had a good burger in a long time. Definitely recommend
Very good first time trying in 2026 Amazing Fire burgers Amazing tots The Mac and cheese was delicious! Also had to try the milkshakes Well done thanks to the staff
I’m sitting here writing this after absolutely demolishing their fat boy burger, and oh my god that was so good. The bacon jam and caramelized onions are such a perfect combo with the crunchy pickles that it makes it obvious these should be toppings on every burger. Go here if u want a good burger. Also only 12 bucks by itself
Double patty smash burger is the best. The fries are delicious not salty or greasy. The coffee milkshake with caramel drizzle is to die for. Definitely coming back. Love the art
This little gem was a great find. The first time I came, my son treated me. It was so delicious that I had to return. My second trip didn't disappoint either. I had the Smash Burger and added the grilled pineapple and jalapeños for a tasty, firey kick. The mac and cheese was on point and you can NEVER go wrong with crispy tater tots. I also ordered the wings. The host informed me that i could split the flavors, so i got the mango habanero and the creamy garlic. The were both pretty tasty but Mango Habanero for the WIN!!! The ambience was perfect. The walls are decorated in graffiti and the street signs really make the place feel so nostalgic. I look forward to returning soon.
The staff were on point. They were friendly & welcoming, even to guests who showed up at 10:01PM. Really puts those places that get all twisted up 30min before closing. The dining area looks new & very clean. I'm not a fan of the graffiti styled wall decor but again it all looks clean. Food came out piping hot. I order the trampo first but definitely need to try their burgers the next time that I'm in the area. Again prompts to the excellent staff.
I have been DYING for a new local burger spot with more than lunch hours (RIP Great American Hamburger) and boy am I delighted in my extraordinary powers of manifestation!! Johnny Boi is a quick walk away and has huge potential to become one of the Point's top draws. Hours are through dinnertime, which may really keep them busy as a quick bite spot. The 510 centric murals inside are really vibrant and creative. You can tell a lot of love has been put into this spot which has been zazzed up from its last incarnation. The open kitchen has been made shiny and fresh with beautiful curved glass partitions that really look good. I got a Johnny Boi, no pickles. The bacon jam was spectacular and added so much flavor! I was satisfied with the size and it tastes great. I love those crispy edges on the patties. The highway style onion rings is another favorite of mine. I'm looking forward to more meals at our new neighbors! *Several visits later and they’ve earned a final star, I’m a real fan of their friendly, rapid service and delicious food.
The trompo burger is delicious. Definitely something special and a must try for pastor fans. So crispy, tangy and overall a flavor explosion. The thick, golden fries were also just what I was hoping for. I'll definitely be back! Great to see something like this at Point Richmond, I think this restaurant is going places! I love the art inside too!
This place is absolutely amazing with delectable burgers. This place can turn a vegan into a burger eater easily. The amount of flavor these burgers have, perfect cook and crispiness on the outside just makes your mouth water thinking about it. I enjoyed every bite of my burger and this is 100% a spot I will return to. For the price I feel like it’s worth it 100%. Great fries that are crispy and the slappin lemonade is SMACK.
Super cool eatery with a great vibe. Great music. Good smash burger! Wings and tots nice and crispy!
Worth the money and atmosphere. Little chilly inside but overall a great experience and burger. It’s super fresh and came out quick. Had the Fat Boi and Fasho Spicy .. both equally delicious and good value.
First time here on a Saturday evening. The place was busy with an upbeat crowd. There's a self-ordering kiosk by the front counter. Staff are attentive, food was delicious for a reasonable price with the portions just right. There's four TVs for sports viewing with IPAs on tap.
The food is amazingly good. We had the signature burger and the burger bowl. From the time we ordered to the time we sat down the food was ready. The caramel onions really brought the burger together. Whatever pickles they are using, I wouldn't mind trying those deep fried.
REALLY good burger and I'm not usually into burgers. The Johnny burger is the best. The jam is yum. It's got onions in it but even a onion hater like me loved it. PS If you didn't know, Smash burgers are greasy BUT tasty! Sides were meh. If it's busy it'll take a bit for them to make your order. Music is usually catered to the vibe. I liked the bay area music closer to closing time versus sleepy John Legend with the lunch/dinner crowd. Love the art! Will definitely be a regular since we are just up the street.

I loved everything about this dinner! Probably one of the best burgers ever! I have the Johnny boi and it’s comparable to my favorite burger ever from the Grand Canyon! Service was great, wait time wasn’t bad at all! Great food!

Go NoW!!!! I wasn’t even really hungry and I destroyed two burgers fries and a shake!!! This is literally the best burger I’ve had in a long time!!! Very original perfectly crispy edge, smash burger!!! Service was crazy fast, staff was super helpful and the place was extremely clean. I will go here over In-N-Out or five guys or any other place from now on!!! not even a comparison especially with how reasonable it was priced!!!
I’ve recently been on a mission to find good spots to eat at out here in Rich. Hopped on Insta and found out about this hidden gem. I got the Fat Boi with tater tots and my girl got their Trompo with fries. Everything was fire. We didn’t even think to take pictures 😭 after them first bites we just devoured the food. Not at all greasy, any of it. The flavors were giving fresh never frozen. The fries were on point. Johnny Boi’s didn’t miss. The staff were super friendly. The food got to us quick. The place is clean and well kept. The graffiti art, decor and music tied everything together. Dope. Will definitely be back!
A taste from Richmond CA, one of the best burgers you'll find in the Bay. Fresh ingredients and the lemonades are amazing! Friendly staff and music is always on point. Highly recommend 👌🏽

My friend insist me to visit this place with him because “those burgers are lit”. But I was not impressed at all. Good quality but nothing spectacular.
Nice place for families and small groups. Easy to order and decent wait time for food even when somewhat busy
Good but a little slow..order ahead digitally. Frustratingly they don’t take phone orders. And use the ketchup packets - better and less bitter than the big pumps🥫🍅
I came to visit shortly after this place first opened. It was not everything I wanted it to be, but I definitely want to revisit this place with another plan in mind. I was excited to try a new smash burger place, also one owned by the same people who own Masa down the street. A few things that I did love was the art on the walls. From Tupac, Frida, to Selena, it gives the place a lot of character and kind of an excitement to see. The burgers itself were ok. The things I didn't love was the amount of grease. Yes, smash burgers can be greasy, but everything had a little too much grease for my liking. The bacon jam was also too sweet to pair with the burger. Next time I will order the burger without the bacon jam. I am not sure if this is a Johnny Boi daily practice, but they did not make our burgers, fries or onion rings to order. Everything was on a warmer which I think also affected the excitement of eating everything fresh. For my future visit, is like to ask them to cook our order when places . Not sure if they will, but it is something I will ask. Hope to update this place again in the future. Other than that, the space is nice and spacious,
The burger was surprisingly good , well cooked , well balanced burger . It’s very rare that I give 4star for a burger . It’s worth trying when you are around , will go back to try a new one next time I am near by . Their iced tea too is niche and tasty , good combination with the burger .

Came here to watch the Super Bowl. It was packed and hard to find a seat, but the food and service was great. They make a good burger and their milkshakes are tempting. The patties get a nice smashing to it. Good vibes, good burgers! There seemed to be plenty of street parking!
I really want them to succeed because there aren’t many smash burger spots in the Bay, but this was my 1st experience so I’m hoping some of this gets taken into consideration as they continue to grow and build and work out the kinks. Food: ordered the Fat Boi. patties were not seasoned. Got 3 massive pickles, 1 thick slice of tomato and 5 threads of lettuce - pls season the patties, just 1-2 pickles, thin out your slicer for tomatoes and add a little more lettuce. Bun was great, I like that it’s extra toasted so the ingredients and sauce didn’t soak into the bread right away. Fries and tots were were soggy and stale. I age a pretty high tolerance or soggy carbs because I just love them. But these carbs need to be given equal amount of attention as the burgers. Maybe do a quality check before they go out and if they’re not super crispy, refry for like 3-4 mins? Wings: got the garlic parm wings. Love the flavor of the sauce and tenderness of the meat but not the outside texture of the wings. My preference would be to have a coat or dredge on them so that the sauce has something to stick to on the surface of the wings. But If that’s not your style of wings, then I will adjust. Just wanted to share my thoughts on it. Otherwise service was good (they just forgot our fries and needed to show them our copy of the receipt) and the cashier/expediter was working hard and checking in on their patrons. Absolutely love the atmosphere inside with the Blood in Blood Out decor and Bay Area recognitions!
They taking smashing their burgers very seriously maybe a little too much to the point where the patty looks paper thin and all the juices are gone from the meat. Please if the owner reads this, maybe ease up on the smashing. The fries are good, I haven't tried any of their shakes or drinks which look good but because the burger taste dry and smashed to smithereens, I wouldn't recommend this place. Hopefully they change up their cooking style a little bit. The service is always good and the place looks great... just the burgers are kind of meh and that's the thing that suppose to count the most at a burger place.
The burgers were better than average and if I found myself hungry and in the neighborhood I’d consider dropping in again. However - it’s not a “destination” meal - I wouldn’t drive out of my way to go here. Also, the onion rings were pretty bad - really doughy with very little onion. I like a good onion ring… these were not that.
I recently moved back home and stumbled upon this place I couldn’t wait to try, only to be left disappointed. I ordered the Trompo burger, which was a letdown. The pastor was dry, unsavory, and burnt, and the patty was paper thin, devoid of any flavor and clearly not fresh. To make matters worse, the al pastor trompo wasn’t even on; the pastor was being cut off the trompo and placed on the grill for reheating. On the bright side, the Highway-style fries were surprisingly decent. However, after about 30 minutes, my stomach began to feel funny, and the food didn’t sit well at all. Despite the disappointing experience, I must admit that the atmosphere is amazing. The murals are absolutely beautiful, capturing the essence of Bay Area Chicano culture with murals of 2pac, Selena, and Frida Kahlo I’m in love with the décor. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be returning. I’m sad because I was excited to try this place, but the food was not good and got me very sick.
The CHEF screamed at me tonight because I asked for a sauce they didn’t carry. Is a shame. I think the food is actually really quite good, but I will no longer be supporting this business.
We really like Johnny Boi burgers but online ordering has changed. Now you can only add 1 element, even the ones that cost, & remove only 1 element. This just doesn’t work & we won’t be ordering as often now. I can’t do cheese, but also prefer without the jam (too sweet for my taste)… I like extra pickle AND extra sauce, both of which I’m happy to pay for… So ordering is suddenly a bother! This is a very shortsighted & foolish change. They are hurting themselves. Fix this Johnny B!!
I ordered habanero wings. They came with no sauce so the skinny cook in the back snatched snatch them poured like 12 ounces of sauce on them then she argued with the cashier for about five minutes because I ordered a burger too and didn’t get it when I got it, the onions were burnt no cheese. I can think of a few places where I can spend my 30 bucks better
