Opinions de Cellar Dog Albee Square
Cellar Dog is everything that's great about a NYC bar. Live jazz playing as you walk in, plenty of spots to sit and hang out, and lots of fun games to play to keep you entertained. There's something for everyone at this spot, and it's great for a group of friends. Even better is that the prices are much lower than your typical West Village bar. There's usually a $5 or $10 cover depending on the night, but definitely worth it.
Only place I know that has billiards, ping pong, shuffle board and board games with live music. Music is always jazz and they have a great beer selection. They just recently got new ping pong paddles. The playable area for the tables is a bit cramped so don’t expect much in terms of movable freedom. Place gets packed after 9:00pm and they have a weekend cover for $10 cash or credit. Place is always a go to.
Easily the best hidden gem in NYC! Nightly live jazz, plenty of pool, ping pong and shuffleboard tables as well as other games. The staff is great and the vibes are immaculate. Can’t wait to go back ASAP!
I've been going since high school and the vibe has always been the same. Fun spot to hang with friends or an early date. It gets very crowded at popular times, so try to start the night here so you can get a table without much fuss. The music is also fantastic and makes it standout from other bars - definitely check it out.
Love it. Seems like a relic of the past… maybe the 80’s or something. My wife and I drop in sometimes for a beer and some pool just for fun.
Honestly loved this place. Same great vibe as fat cat with maybe a little better music. Constant live jazz bands while you’re playing pool, shuffleboard, ping pong or cards is such a fun ambience. My only critique is they might need a few more bartenders. Otherwise the $5 cover is really not that bad.
Management and security were amazing handling an incident that occurred with me tonight, immediately made me feel safe and comfortable. 10/10 place with great people in WV. thank you guys 🫶🏻❤️🩹
We had an amazing night! What a fantastic concept. Live jazz, pool / pingpong and drinks. Nice ambience.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cellar Dog and it completely exceeded my expectations. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was enveloped in the Jazz music coming from deeper inside, the bustling crowd having fun playing all sorts of games from pool the shuffleboard... an atmosphere that radiated fun and sheer joy. The vibrant and thoughtfully designed décor creates an ambiance that is both captivating and comfortable. The lighting is expertly crafted, it really sets the vibe and mood. Although I wish they had liquor at this venue, Zack the bartender really took care of me. He always had my beers ready whenever I was walking towards to bar, If you are reading this you rock my man! Thank You for taking care of my friends and I. We will definitely be going back especially since summer is basically right around the corner! Cheers
Live jazz music, ping pong, and good times! $10 per person cover fee. $5 unlimited board games. $8 per person ping pong for 2hrs.
I used to come to the Fat Cat back in the day and loved it. When I heard that they closed but were re-opening under new management, I did not know what to expect. But I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. It got a complete upgrade from the space to the vibe and music. It is amazing and the staff is unbelievable! This will continue to be my West Village hangout to grab beers and shoot some pool with my friends.
I’m glad you guys kept the establishment the same. One difference I noticed was a security guard who was always on the floor. One thing I wish you guys would fix is the sound system for the singers, seems like they kept the same old sound system. When the musicians get on the mic and try to sing it’s pretty much pointless because we cannot hear anything and it’s not because it’s too loud it’s just the sound system has to go. Frida and Saturday if you get there before 8pm you’ll be able to find an easy game table. Gets crowded after 9pm. Also, try to get in like for a game 30 minutes before your other game runs out so the wait is not too crazy. Overall, I’m glad it was reopened. The vibe is super nice and chill. Keep up the good work 👍🏼 I recommend 100% Also, if anyone else knows any similar places post it up on a review (Sharing is caring)😬 Always looking for cool places like CellarDog 🔥
Awesome venue, drinks are good, jazz wonderful…been there multiple times, and it’s always been fun. Staff and the security people are kind... Overall IMMACULATE west village vibes ❤️❤️
This is one of my favorite spots in NYC!! The bouncer is such a nice guy and bro this place has live jazz, ping pong, shuffle board, and more. If you haven’t been you’re missing out. Only great things to say!🫶
Great Spot, Even Better Vibes! Cellar Dog is a great spot to chill, listen to live jazz and shoot pool or play table tennis. The vibe is great. Fun and relaxed, and the staff is chill. Huge shoutout to Angel, Joe, and Kwami. They’re great and make the experience even better. Always attentive and friendly.
This bar is always a good time. The bouncer is cool and so is the entire bar staff. CJ, Angel, and Joe at the bar are always super nice and run everything fast. Great bar. Pool with jazz>>
Fantastic! A low-key and chill place with a whole bunch of fun activities, like shuffleboard, billiards, and foosball. There's an entrance fee of $5, and the games cost money to play, but the price is more than fair. The bar is alright and sells wine and beer (only). We met some really great people during our visit! The only downside is that the place closes pretty early.
Terrific vibes. Chill hang out spot w great live jazz, tons of room, games of all sorts, seating, beer, etc. $5 cover is a great deal. Highly recommend
Great place to hang out with friends! There’s live jazz and a ton of games- pool tables, shuffle board, chess, ping pong, etc. Only $10 cover charge for live Jazz and fun atmosphere! The bartenders and staff are great. Will definitely be my go to spot going forward.
Great bar with very good vibes. There’s a $10 cover on weekends ($5 on weekdays) which is well worth it in my opinion for the live jazz music that plays. You get a stamp on your hand so if you want to hit up another bar and come back later you can. They’re a bit limited when it comes to drinks which doesn’t bother me but if you’re looking for specialty cocktails this isn’t the place for you. Great place to come and enjoy the music while playing a board game or some pool. Definitely recommend!
July 2025 - Great space! Check hours but no cover before 6p. $10 afterwards. - Live jazz starting at 7p with one band and then a late night band. Check schedule. The 2 bands I've heard are legit! No need to go to Smalls, this will do just fine. One grand piano from Steinway & Sons, and one fancy cool organ. - The sound system sounds great. It can get loud, so keep that in mind. - One ~55 TV showing sports, no sound. But maybe if you asked when there wasn't jazz playing?? Not sure. - One poster of John Coltrane - Perfect AC - Games get charged by the hour, including pool/billiards ping pong tables, table shuffle board, fooz ball, and board games like chess, checkers, dominoes, scrabble and others. - Pool, Ping Pong and Shuffle board are $8 per hour Sun - Th and $9 per hour Fri and Sat. - Draft beers range from $6-$14 - No kitchen means you can bring your own food! - One stand up video game with different classic games, including Galaga 1, 2 and 3 (didn't know?), Centipede, Pac Man and more. 50 cents per game. 2 quarters. - self serve water fountain - Young kids and teens are welcome with parents - Lots of college kids, but clearly everyone is welcome. - Super casual space. Shorts a ok. This is a great place. This uses to be The Eight Ball and then Fat Cat. Then around Covid it turned into Cellar Dog.
It's amazing 🤩 🤩🤩🤩 Place to go relax and See live Jazz and Blues 💙💫💙💫💙💫💙💫💙 7 Days a week and it Doesn't matter if your by Yourself or your with a Group of friends 🎶🌟🎶 Amen 🙌🙏 🙌
Great and gritty! It’s a fun place to play pool and/tabletop shuffleboard. The tables attention the top of the line, but they’re great for fun times with friends 👌🏽Sometimes there’s even have a band!
$11 wine. Great live music (free entry if you arrive an hour before music starts). Brain in your own food. Perfect spot to enjoy an evening alone or with others.
Daniella went above and beyond to accommodate us, even during a very busy time. We needed a table urgently, and she arranged it seamlessly, ensuring we received attentive and skillful service throughout. I’ve been a loyal customer since the days of Fat Cat, but this was my first visit to Cellar Dog since the transition—and it did not disappoint. I’ll definitely be coming back.
Great bar!! If you enjoy live music absolutely go there. If I recall correctly there is music until 11 on weekdays and 1 on the weekend nights?!? Look it up on the site to fact check me. Also a cover of 5$ on weeknights and 10$ on weekends (worth it)
★★★★★ Cellar Dog is, without a doubt, my favorite place in New York City! The combination of live jazz and billiards creates an atmosphere that's both vibrant and relaxing. Over the years, the incredible staff has become some of my closest friends, and I truly consider this my happy place. They consistently attract some of the best jazz musicians, making every performance a memorable experience. What sets Cellar Dog apart is the friendly and welcoming environment they foster; from the doorman to the table game hosts, and from the bartenders to the managers, everyone goes out of their way to ensure you have the best time possible. Whether you're looking to unwind after work or celebrate a special occasion, Cellar Dog is the perfect spot! I always leave with a smile and a heart full of joy. Highly recommended for anyone seeking good music, great games, and even better company!
Ooh so much fun. Loved the vibe and the live jazz while playing pool. They have a few ping pong tables, shaffle boards, a bunch of pool tables, board games. I'd go back there.
Thursday night at 10pm - cover charge $5 Bar with games (billiards, shuffle board, ping pong, etc) and live music... there’s a window to put your name down for each game, then you wait for it to become available The live music was good, and wasn’t too loud you have to yell at your friends/group. Fun spot
Cover is only $10. Absolutely stunning music from famous jazz artists, with a warm and intimate atmosphere. Fantastic way to spend an evening into the late night.
Not much in terms of food except for meat patty’s, nachos and a giant pretzel but all were delicious (especially the nachos). But don’t come here for the food, come for the great games and most importantly (to me and my partner) the music. It was great just to vibe and have our ciders listening to the jazz and makes us want to listen more of the genre. Also very spacious
I've been coming back to Cellar Dog more times than I could count because of its friendly employees that make me feel like at home. This place has everything such as live jazz music to ping pong. Perfect place to take someone on a date or hanging out with your buddies. Highly recommended.
This is seriously one of New Yorks best places to socialize and have some fun in REAL life. You go inside and almost no one is on their phones because they’re either talking drinking or playing games, or both. The staff are one of the coolest and nicest people out there. The bouncer is super chill and kind and will make sure that everyone that enters has a welcoming vibe. It’s amazing that a place like this still exists and I will continue coming here and bringing all my friends
Great jazz for such a cheap entry fee. Best bang for your buck jazz club around
got a DELICIOUS cider and listened to jazz on a monday night. had tons of space and the games looked so fun! just what my partner and i needed. if i lived in nyc i think this would be the spot i would bring my friends to. and cheap cover!!!
Came here for a work happy hour! Fun games - pool, ping pong, etc. :) Food and drinks are okay, standard
We had a really great time at Cellar Dog! Very surprising and a place like this to see employees that are nice and friendly and welcoming! The jazz band was excellent and I noticed they also play at other venues where the cover charge is much higher. We also got to interact with the band on their break and they couldn't have been nicer. They serve beer and wine, and the beer choices were excellent and they were kind enough to let us taste and sample a bunch of options! They don't serve food, but they let us know that we could easily get delivery there. We did and it was easy and simple. Although it was bustling when we arrived at 7:30 that's a great time to get a seat in front of the band… It keeps getting more crowded as it gets later. Also, they have tables with various games on them.. So It might be easier to get one of those if you come on the early side. I would say the age group was definitely under 30 or 35 we were older, but we felt comfortable and welcomed. We are looking forward to coming back!
Lovely door keepers. Bartender not so much. Such a unique space allowing leisure time in the village like the beatnick days. A gem. Love the jazz.
Sweet spot fo pool and shuffle board. Pricing is pretty standard - based on number of ppl and time spent. Plenty of tables, and sometimes a wait (but usually pretty short - we only waited 20min). They have live jazz some night, which was a plus. Good selection of drinks and reasonably priced as well.
Me and my boyfriend both loved this place! It’s so much fun with all different zones and games. We listened to jazz, very much enjoyed it even though it was a little noisy with all the people playing games behind it was still a cool experience (just consider it if you want something more quiet and relaxing it’s a lot of young crowds). Also be ready that line for the pool is long (it was 2 hours so we decided not to do it today even though wanted it), played ping pong instead. It was a little too cold for me so also be prepared w a jacket. Prices are great 🩷
super fun place to hang out with friends. they have lots of board games as well as billiards, ping pong, and shuffle board. if you go on the weekend, expect long wait times for these games- better to go during the week days. they also have a great live jazz band playing. overall very enjoyable place with lots of entertainment! highly recommend.
Been meaning to come here for a while. Lovely place, pool tables, ping pong, shuffle board, chess, you name it. Great place to go with friends! The manager was amazing and very friendly. Can’t forget about the jazz as well, they only play the best musicians. The cover is $10 to get in! I would get on the waitlist immediately when u get in for pool!
Super fun place to hangout, I definitely see myself coming back. Underground spacious venue, with many seating options , bar, pool table and many other games. I went there for the live jazz and grab a drink. It's suitable for groups or couples. Line one subway is next door making it convenient commute.
Great selection of drinks and games (pool, table tennis, shuffle board, card games, chess, etc.) to play. Live jazz music always helps the mood too! Make sure to arrive early though otherwise you’ll get stuck in a major long line to get in. Also ensure you have your vaccination card handy! There is a cover charge to get in.
Classic spot in the West Village with a dive atmosphere-great for what it's offering-no frills. Lots of space for groups. Crowd tends to be younger/college aged, but inclusive to all. Many ping pong and billard tables with cash/card rental. No reservations needed. No cover when we arrived or wait. Basic beer menu and bar selections.
I come early to assure I can have a pool table to play on. Great price to use the pool tables. I just wish they would spend just a tiny bit of money to get better pool sticks. 70% of the pool sticks are unusable. Some of the tables are falling apart as well. The Jazz is a nice . Drinks a little pricey. Crowd has a college vibe to it. Wednesday and Thursday are my favorite days to go.
Always a fun place to go with a group of friends. They have pool tables, shuffle board, foosball and ping pong. Every now and then we encounter some live music which is always awesome. Beer selection is decent. Lighting could use some work but not a dealbreaker I’m just picky about those things.
Just enough lights to see the acts. Good talent selection, excellent price. Lively. Recommended.
It's gritty, it's dingy, there are odd smells, it's NYC. Fun place to play casual games of pool, ping pong, and table top games. There's live music, beer and wine and lots of seating. Used to be called fat cat back in the day, but nothing about this place has changed, nor should it.
It was fun to hang with friends and play chess and other board games. Kinda crowded, but it was too be expected on a Saturday night. $10 cover fee
Funky hang out spot with a large, open-space filled with activities such as billiards, fuzball, pingpong which along with occasional live music and quick bar service (Albeit with limited selection and not a large portion of food to choose from) come together for a great place to host a work/group event. $8 a drink. 4/5 stars as a night spot.
Got stuck in the rain and tried this place out. Place was cool with a very rustic vibe to it. The jazz band was awesome which is why I gave 4 stars. Small selection of beers and no cocktails. Seating was very limited near the band. $10 cover just to entered was weird but I assumed it was to pay the band (or at least that’s what I hoped). Billiards was pretty standard. It’s a nice, laid back spot and prices are fair.
Cute place for a hang out or a date. Opted for the in-house cocktail. They have an abundance of local beers on tap. Interior is very old school urban. Very casual spot with plenty of laid back people playing pool, table tennis etc. There’s also live music. Highly recommend this place for a group hang out.
The food here is a bit plain, but the goal is the activities. The curtains around the table tennis tables will occasionally leak out balls. Otherwise, the tables are well maintained. The billard tables / shuffle board are decently well used. There's an arcade hidden in the back with card games by the front desk
This is a cool, low-key jazz spot. The band was great! Including a trumpeter that sings, love that. Go on a weeknight so that the cover charge is $5 instead of $10 on weekends. They have tons of games, but they unfortunately cost $8 per person per hour. Kind of a bummer. Overall, really hip jazz bar. Definitely recommend!
My friends and I had a good time here. We played table tennis, pool and shuffleboard. There was a great jazz band there on Saturday night. I think the place can improve their selection of games - they have shuffleboard, table tennis and pool along with some board games. Also, they charge you for the number of people going to play and not the playing equipment they provide for the time which was strange and adds to the cost on consumer. For eg- two people playing pool taking turns in playing the game will be charged double the amount in one person plays the game alone. Cover charge was 5$ on weekday and 10$ on weekends, somewhat expensive considering they have additional fee for the games.
There’s a lot about this bar I love. Great beer, games and a good vibe. The live music is amazing and it’s a great place! Do note, the security guards have generally been rude and unprofessional.
Nice Jazz band and place. The place is too hot, probably for the customers to buy a lot of cold drinks. If you want to play ping pong or pool, you have to pay, make sure of how much it is before playing, we asked one of the waitress and she told us that it's for free, and made us pay at the end
Nice live jazz music with a lot of games. Prices are very high (pool 9usd per person per hour, same as ping pong). Beers were 12 usd.
I was charged a cover when my friends were not. The bouncer tried to say my ID was fake even though he was able to scan it. The space is large but seating is limited. The bathrooms were beyond the grossness of a standard Village dive which is really saying something. I heard the jazz is good but no one played which made me once again wonder what was the cover for??
if you're a person of color nearing the end of their closing time just be aware that you will be addressed first before others to close your bill and get the hell out of there....its unfortunate after over 20 years of visiting this place and never having such an encounter that...the new staff targets what they assume to be a "problem"....im embarrassed to recommend somewhere thats stuck in an era 100 years old .
Super cool atmosphere with live jazz, pool tables, shuffle board, and ping pong. Feels like an upgraded dive bar. They were only serving beer and wine when I went, I’m not sure if that’s the way it usually is. The bouncer was also a weirdo which put me off but didn’t dampen my overall experience, it does however make me hesitant to go again.
This is one of the few places in New York where you can enjoy live jazz at affordable prices. The venue is legendary (formerly Fat Cat) and offers plenty of games — pool, board games, and more — to go along with the music. The bands are good, not the very best in New York but quite decent considering the low cover charge. On weekdays, admission is around $5, and on weekends we paid $10 each. The only real downside is the staff — rude, to say the least. I understand they might be used to dealing with young crowds and heavy drinkers, but we were treated poorly both times we went to the bar. They also tend to push the most expensive beer if you’re not specific with your order. I asked for a lager and ended up with one twice the price of their house beer. Overall, it often felt like we weren’t welcome there, and at one point, the lady behind the bar even yelled at me when I politely asked for a replacement drink.
Came here for a surprise pop up show for MGK. He performed some of his songs and the sound quality was great! But this place was definitely not set up for this type of venue. It was very crowded and tight spaced. Drinks spilt all over the floor, and not really organized at all. Staff and security was very present so that did make it feel more safe. It seems like a chill spot, just not equipped for that type of show
Bar was good, I don’t mind the cover, bands gotta survive too. However the game service was terrible. It was my first time there and all I was told was that I’d get a text when the game was ready. I got the text and waited in line. By the time I got there it was past the grace period and I was told I’d had to put my name down again. The employees said I should have texted back or cut the line. However none of those instructions were even given to me or the party that I was with. Lastly while walking around to see what games were available I observed multiple tables that were empty the entire time. This place needs to provide better management, training of employees and better instructions for new customers.
Honestly? it's over-priced for what you get :/ The bartenders are alright, but the bar selection is basic/minimal, for me that's lame. You must pay cover as you enter $10 - reasonable for a jazz band performance, but the sits are dirty, there's no stage, lighting sucks.. the sound was good, but I personally hate bebop. It's wonderful to have games - but the pool tables... some are falling apart, the q-sticks are crooked or missing parts.. the benches are broken.. maintenance is WEAK. You pay to enter, you pay to drink, you pay to play - it adds up, and at the end of the night you realize it's way more than deserved for this broken-down level of amenities.
Definitely a downgrade. Cellar Dog maintains the atmosphere from the previous establishment but has upped the price significantly. Price gouging on games (pool is $9 a player and then it's pay by minute) cover charge $5 every day except Friday and Saturday where it's $10. Overall not greatly impressed and there are better establishments in the area I suggest frequenting.
Overall place is nice in vibe, an hour of ping pong will cost you $32 which is insane to me. Playing anything is overpriced, not to mention it costs money to enter the place as well. Wouldn't go again.
Bouncer high as a kite. Best description is “crowded basement of mouth-breathers”. Charged entry fee because of live jazz music, yet they drowned it out by also blasting different music from speakers. As a result, loud so everyone screaming over each other. Go to Game Room for quarters. Long line for ping pong, good luck.
Had a horrible experience with the bouncer at this place. Extremely rude and unprofessional and claimed my friend’s real ID was fake. Went on power trip tangent and refused to give it back. Told us to come back another time to get it. When we came back for the ID a few days later none of the staff knew where it was. Extremely irresponsible and disrespectful establishment. I’ve seen a lot of other review tell a similar story. Don’t go there unless you’re willing to have your ID stolen.
Love the games and vibe here, and reasonable priced drinks. Would love to rate this spot higher but the bouncer really affects my mood every time I go. I have seen the bouncer give so many people here a hard time for no reason. Extremely rude and unprofessional. He almost snapped my ID in half claiming it was “fake” (I am 25 so well over legal drinking age). He tried to take my phone out of my hand saying he “had to see it” to verify my age. When I tried to get my ID back to just leave, he refused to give it and fought with me over getting defensive when he had repeatedly harassed me, tried to take my phone, and threatened to break my property. Highly recommend you guys get a new bouncer that isn’t on a pathetic power trip.
Zeros stars if i could, id been here once and had the greatest time but tonight the bouncers attitude was rude and ugly. Refused to let me in based off a 4 year old id. Laughed at me and refused to reconsider after shown multiple pieces of proof that I'm of age. Disgusting Behavior and will never return. Do not recommend this place unless you got your id last week. No stars
Bouncer had a horrible attitude and accused of having fake id even though it’s real. Manager not willing to help as well, place seems fun but oh well. *update* I went on a Saturday and surprisingly, I encountered the same bouncer and he let me and my friends in, proving that my license is real. It’s a really nice place with live music. Thank you for letting me experience cellar dog, I loved it.
Been here a half dozen times and it’s always been a great experience until last night. Two of my girlfriends arrived 5 minutes before and didn’t pay a cover. But when my friend and I, having come from Playhouse, tried to enter, the bouncer said there was a $10 cover. When I asked him why my two girlfriends weren’t charged but we were, he got very agitated and told us to leave. Completely bizarre and unprofessional. Not sure what sort of complex or prejudices he has, but it’s nothing I want to be near. I hope to come here again, but not if I have to interact with that bouncer.
This place has no idea what vibe they’re going for. Sometimes they charge cover. Half of the place is a pool hall/arcade games, the other half has church pews lined up for seats. An odd crowd of people, and music blasting with 4 people in there on Sunday. Also terrible customer service- left my credit card there and they never picked up their phone, returned voicemails, or email; but they actively respond with snarky Google reviews
I'm a tourist in New York, I visited Cellar Dog on a friend's recommendation, but I won't be going back and I don't recommend that any tourist or immigrant visit the place. English is not my first language (nor my second, nor my third), I speak it very poorly (I'm using a translator to write this), but despite that, I understand a lot. A Black man with glasses at the door, when it was my turn, said something ending in "problem," I asked him back "problem?", and he said quite seriously and angrily, staring at me, "ARE YOU DUMB?", I just told him I didn't speak English and ignored him - And he kept staring at me in a horrible way until I paid the entrance fee and left. Is this seriously the kind of treatment an employee gives to a paying customer who is paying and going to consume at the establishment? If you don't know how to treat people well when working with the public, then don't work in customer service. If I could give zero stars, I would.
The incompetent bouncer was pressing my friend and I about our IDs. When we showed our IDs (we’re both 23), he asked for a second form of ID after glancing at the IDs we just gave him. I told him I didn’t have a second form of ID and asked what was wrong with my ID but he couldn’t give an answer. My friend gave his second form of ID but he kept saying it wasn’t him on the ID (like what, who is that then??) and even asked him for a passport. I asked him if he can scan our IDs or something to verify bc how can he prove our IDs are fake. Again, no answer. Mind you, we already played pool for an hour and were sitting down in the front row to watch the jazz band perform when he came up to us. He finally left us alone but I was obviously upset and he had the audacity to come back to us talking about "why I was making a face" like who wouldn't make a face after the situation you put us in. Bro was rage baiting sooo hard so he can kick us out but it didn't work. ALSO the pool tables are sooo DIRTY. Even if the situation with the bouncer hadn’t occurred, we’re never coming back to this raggedy place again. FYI: I’ve noticed there are several bad reviews about this bouncer. I understand this place is close to NYU hence why they probably get a lot of fakes but why would you inconvenience paying customers instead of investing in some kind of method to actually verify IDs, like HELLO it’s 2026.
(i know the owner is gonna get big mad and bully me in the replies for this one lol) my two friends and i came here after getting dinner just to listen to jazz and vibe. i guess this place is close to where a lot of NYU students are because the bouncer thought that my and my one friend’s IDs were fake. he started doing that thing that bouncers do where they ask you what’s on your ID to see if you’ll screw it up. he wasn’t very nice about it, it’s like bro was itching and scratching to not let us in. dude absolutely destroyed the mood. unfortunately, the bouncer’s tone started making my friend really nervous. he hadn’t ever had his ID questioned before and he hadn’t yet updated it (he had just moved), so when asked for his address, he didn’t give the one that was on the license. the bouncer said it was wrong, then kept rolling his eyes, laughing at him, and began repeating “don’t be scared, don’t be scared” to my friend who was... clearly scared. he then asked my friend for a secondary form of identification which, like... what? the only thing he had on him was his old student ID, which expired like two years ago lol. this finally got the bouncer off of him, thankfully. post-lambasting my friend, the bouncer started asking me the same questions, but my ID is up to date so i answered all of his questions without a hitch. he rolled his eyes and then asked me for another ID, as well. maybe i’m the odd one out here, but who carries a secondary form of ID on them? i also have an enhanced license, which i’m pretty sure is a federal crime to fake, as it is basically a passport. i ended up just showing him my driver’s insurance card, that’s the closest thing i had. at that point, he FINALLY let us in. after all that struggle, the place kinda... sucked. was not even worth the $5 cover. the bartender was rude and the bar barely had any alcohol (at 10 PM on a thursday night with a bunch of college students inside?). it was dark and dingy and NOT in a quirky way. i don’t need a place to be fancy or anything, this was just gross. another friend and i got their “pride” drink which was just pineapple juice and soju. that’s it. the drink was not mixed well, to say the least. the only good part of this place was that they had a phenomenal jazz band playing... but with all the hassling, next time i will go anywhere else. new york city has so much more to offer — skip this one.
