I love this small business! The vibes are super cozy and I love the way the food is presented. Portion size and price are also super!
This place is a NYC hole in the wall hidden gem. The food is so good and truly a delicacy of China’s finest cuisine. The bokchoy, beef noodle soups, and wontons are amazing!
It’s not exactly the Nan Xiang I remember but maybe it’s close enough when you have the craving and you’re definitely not heading to Queens. We tried it when in the area for a friend’s dance show. They are as their “about us” poster says: a fast casual version of Nan Xiang in an environment that reminds me of modern Wendy’s. We ordered a few containers of the standard soup dumpling, one of crab, one of spicy beef, and a beef scallion pancake. Immediate note: the skin of the dumpling is thicker than we’re used to at the OG NX. This seems to make sense at least if they’re delivering and if they’re just reheating the product, so that they won’t easily leak. About the spicy beef soup dumpling: it’s the first time we had it. First impression is it’s different from the pork. Specifically it’s more dense and is almost like a spicy beef soup made into a soup dumpling. All in all food came quickly. We also asked separately for ginger which they had. Good enough for a cold day!
Soup dumplings are delicious. I particularly enjoy the instructions to mix up the dumpling sauce. I had wonton soup on a previous visit and found it oily and lacked flavor. But definitely come here got the soup dumplings. The service is great. You order at the counter or through automated stand and then they will bring the food to your table.
I got the crab and pork soup dumplings and the cucumber salad. Food was tasty but every single dumpling was stuck to the steamer liner and ripped open no matter how careful I was. Could just be a skill issue. They tasted good I just wish I could have had more of the broth inside. The cucumber salad was simple and refreshing. Service is fast. Tables are clean. Restroom is also clean. Pretty quiet inside even during the lunch rush.
I have been coming here since the restaurant opened. Great food, delicious dumplings, but they require you to order off of a tablet that does not have all of their full menu items available. It doesn’t make sense. Stood in line for 10 minutes to try to order at the counter, then turned around and left as I had wasted 15 minutes of my lunch hour.
I ordered the Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings and Shanghai Stir-Fried noodle (chicken) combo (comes with a drink) The soup dumpling is solid. Skin is very soft and thin ( can break easily, pick up carefully) lots of soup inside. The noodle is good but I feel like they can add a few more pieces of chicken in there.
I ordered dinner from this place through Uber Eats. They’re well-known for their soup dumplings, but this time I wanted something a bit more filling, so I skipped those. I started with a cup of hot and sour soup and got the crunchy spicy chicken combo, which came with broccoli. I swapped the white rice for fried rice. The meal overall was quite basic—nothing special, more like a Panda Express–style takeout. The fried rice had mixed vegetables, egg, and white rice, and the chicken was just okay. That said, the portion size was generous; it easily lasted me for two meals—dinner and lunch the next day. The soup was nice and comforting, especially on a chilly night. Overall, a decent meal—nothing extraordinary, but satisfying enough. I have a feeling their soup dumplings are the real highlight here, so I’ll probably go back to try those next time.
Food was good. +1 really enjoyed the beef rice bowl and the hot and sour soup. In my opinion, the soup was a little too salty so I didn’t love it. I ordered crab + pork soup dumplings which i enjoyed a lot. Beverages ser two passion fruit + lime green teas. Bartender really followed our instructions about almost no sugar and I’m very thankful for that since in other places they don’t do the % of ice and sugar requested. Restaurant is clean but for some reason there was a really loud fan working while we ate so there was too much noise, we did not enjoy that.
While I still prefer their OG location in Flushing, this is THE spot if you want to skip the line and taste the famous Nan Xiang dumplings. This is their sister brand which focuses on fast service, takeout, and delivery. Don’t miss out on their soy milk – sometimes I stop by Nan Xiang just for their soy milk. *Pork & Veggie Wonton in Spicy Peanut Sauce $9.95 *** Spicy Peanut Sauce Wonton was my top pick – very peanut-y and not overwhelmingly spicy. *Chicken Soup Dumpling $10.95 * *Crab Meat & Pork Soup Dumpling $10.95 They served the soup dumplings in bamboo baskets, just like when you dine at NXXLB. Chicken XLB was better than the crab one imo, as I couldn’t really taste the crab. Their meat fillings were super juicy. *Pork Crispy Bottom Bun $7.95 Sheng jian bao was fluffy, which also means their wrapper was on the thicker side. It was bursting with meat juice. The bottom could also be crispier. *Scallion Pancake $6.95 ** Didn’t expect I would love this so much! Very crispy on the crust and slightly chewy on the inside. Loved the aroma from the scallion. *Cucumber Salad $7.95 * I couldn’t stop but kept digging into the garlic cucumber salad. Very garlicky and refreshing. *Shredded Beef & Pepper Noodle Soup $14.95 *Shanghai Beef Stir-fried Noodle $14.95 *Shrimp Spring Roll $7.95 *Soy Milk $3.95 **
I really debated if this was worth a 5 star overall. The soup dumplings, crispy pork bottom buns, and scallion pancakes were all spectacular. The noodle soup wasn’t great- a little bland on the broth, but the crispy pork was maybe my favorite part of the dinner- although it is hard to beat any of the other things I ordered. Excellently cooked to a nice crisp, and the packaging to keep it out of the broth to preserve that for a take out order was beyond my expectations. The restaurant seemed clean, and I would happily visit again.
My absolute favorite dumplings in New York. I visit the one in the East village all the time but today I was trying to stay in Brooklyn. Website and door says they are open til 10, but when I got there at just before 9, they told me they could only do take out. Wish I could've stayed and enjoyed my dumplings hot.
I had an unusually mediocre experience for lunch, and I think it's because I didn't do the soup dumplings. The beef noodle soup was labeled as recommended, so I decided to try it here. Big mistake - the beef was chewy and a bit dry and not terribly flavorful rather than tender, and the broth had really muted flavors despite the very appealing color. Unfortunately the noodles were seasoned mildly under (I think) the assumption that they'd soak up the broth, and as a consequence of the weak broth the noodles were under-flavored. Chili oil and some vinegar helped but not enough. The bok choy, however, was really good quality, and I really enjoyed the separate order of garlic bok choy I had as well. Get the bok choy! But maybe not the beef noodle soup. I have no complaints about the employees, who efficiently tried to solve problems, but some other things were odd. There didn't seem to be chopsticks at the utensil, water, and condiments bar, and only a soup spoon and fork came with the meal, which might be regionally appropriate and I might have needed to ask for chopsticks at the front counter. The music was pretty good, and the decor was serviceable but not anything that got me excited, which is fair if you're in and out for lunch. There's a promotion to get some dessert-type drink or something if you leave a good review, which you may want to take advantage of. For me, while the *quantity* of food you can get for the price is fine for the neighborhood, the quality was underwhelming outside of the veggies. If you come, maybe stick with the soup dumplings, which are wonderful at the full-size Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao restaurants and are probably really great here, and the bok choy.
The food is good but they waited until we ordered to tell us there is no dine-in, even though they weren’t closed yet (40 minutes from closing time). It’s fine if you want to leave early, but don’t wait until people spend their money to try and kick them out in the dead of winter - where would we eat the food we just bought? We would’ve spent our money elsewhere. They already packed away the sauces and didn’t bring any with our items
I was on my way to a different food spot when I saw this on the way. Decided to give it a try. I got the sesame chicken and the wonton in sauce. But I would have to say that I was disappointed as the reviews looked promising. The food seemed too salty and did not seem to have a good balance to it. and the chicken seemed to be rather basic and chunky. The atmosphere was great, so was the service. They were very kind.
DO NOT GET THE SOUP DUMPLINGS. It was such a disappointment. I don’t know how this place has a 4.0+ rating. Maybe they are known for stir fried dishes or other, but definitely NOT SOUP DUMPLINGS. I ordered the pork (OG) and the crab & pork. Neither tasted the way they should. The crab & pork dumplings were sour even without dipping vinegar, which is surprising since the filling includes crab miso. There was no crab flavor at all, and the same was true for the pork. The soup was plentiful but bland. The main reason I do not recommend the soup dumplings is the dough. It is much thicker than the paper thin dough you normally see. Because of this, the top becomes hard while the bottom gets soggy from the steam. So no matter how good your chopstick skills are, the soup will pour out from the bottom due to gravity the moment you lift the dumpling. Save yourself $10 and order something else. FYI this is self service
