Might have found our new fav taco please. The santis steak trompo is a must have! JUST SO GOOD!
Amazing Trompo tacos, so tender and juicy. If there is a line, the kitchen will let you know how long the wait is for fresh trompo.
Delicious tacos! Chicken was so juicy and flavourful. Graçias!
The steak trampo is exactly the kind of taco I’ve been looking for. It is generous, juicy, and perfectly fatty in the best way. I was also surprised by how flavorful the chicken taco was. The corn tortillas were super fresh and held everything together just right. Easily one of the best new taco spots in the city, definitely in my top 3.
I’m not usually the kind of person who lines up for tacos. But when I heard the team behind Cosme was opening a taqueria, at the iconic La Esquina location, no less I was ready to be first in line. And let me tell you… it was worth every minute. The tortillas? Perfect. The fillings? Mind-blowing. Every bite is layered, intentional, and packed with flavor in a way that goes way beyond your typical NYC taco. You can taste the pedigree here. This place has Cosme’s attention to detail, but it’s all wrapped up in something casual, soulful, and street-smart. Whether you’re a taco purist or just in it for the hype you’ll walk away impressed. If you know, you know. And now? You know.
Stumbled in on this place and wow what an experience! Don’t skip the condiment bar as their habanero hot sauce was some of the best hot sauce I’ve ever tried in my life. Wish they sold bottles of it.
This was on my list of places to try for tacos and boy I am so lucky I went there. The tacos were just perfect. With adequate flavours and sauces. The staff is really helpful, and helped me decide what all to order. And it was ready within a few minutes. It has kerb side seating and standing tables. Easy to grab a quick bite and go. Would recommend 10/10. And definitely go there again whenever I visit NYC.
Amazing tacos, as a vegetarian its always hard but having two options was grea (plus guac and chips) It is its own unique amazing taco spot . It's a must try Seats are limited but who cares when a taco is that good.
I tried the steak trompo at Santo Taco as an appetizer before our dinner reservation. The meat is super thinly sliced--almost like shaved steak--and has a nice, tender texture. It's not greasy or heavy, which I appreciated. It's seasoned lightly, so if you're into bold or spicy tacos, this one might feel a little underwhelming. What really stood out, though, were the corn tortillas--freshly pressed, warm, and slightly toasty. They might have been my favorite part of the whole bite. Their tacos are around $6-7, so I do wish the price were slightly lower, but I'll definitely come back because Santo taco became my favorite taco place in NYC :)
I come to Santo Taco every day. They are incredibly tasty, super healthy, and make me feel warm, welcome, and at home. I’ll continue coming here everyday for as long as they are open.
I'm so glad my office moved closer to Santo Taco because these are my favorite tacos in the city. The food came out in 3 minutes, and I loved all the sauces. As a meat lover, I was surprised the mushroom tacos were my favorite!!
The best tacos I’ve had in awhile! The carnitas is chefs kiss and the agua Fresca is to die for! Must try spot when in soho.
Great tacos, a little overpriced though. Steak trompo are a must try! Great service from Vanessa :)
The steak taco is great, high quality and tasty. One of the best taco in town. The price is reasonable in Soho. If you are in that area must try out.
Where do I begin!? The line was around the corner but the food was so worth the wait. I wouldve waited longer but I’m glad the line moved quickly. While you wait you can watch them take perfectly formed balls of fresh corn masa form into warm and flavorful handmade tortillas, the right combo of soft and strong. A little sticker shock at first was quickly forgotten as the trompo steak taco is nearly perfect, so we wanted more and even at $7 per taco we got back on line to get two more. Get the agua santa, it’s a refreshing not-too-sweet mix of cucumber and pineapple. We also tried the carnitas and carne asada. Delicious. 10/10 would recommend. No notes! Friendly service included a smile and a free Mexican chocolate cookie!
Absolutely delightful tacos, the only thing that surpasses the deliciousness of the tacos is the warmth of the hospitality. All of the employees are so kind and welcoming and ready to help with anything. We tried each flavor and the carne asada was my personal favorite, but you cannot go wrong with either.
We visited NYC from Seattle and Santo Taco was one of our first stops! I read about the steak trompo taco in Eater and knew I had to get it. It was delicious, especially with the green salsa. We also tried the chicken and carnitas tacos (and the agua fresca) – everything was so good! We were able to sit and eat quickly, then were on to our next spot. Would recommend!
Truly the best tacos in Manhattan!!!! The quality of the food is wonderful and the flavors are all so delicious and authentic. The tortillas are the perfect texture and taste and everything on the menu is a hit. My favorites were the steak trompo and carnitas but the mushroom is surprisingly super flavorful. The salsas are also great and I’ve never seen the chicharrón topping option anywhere else but adds the perfect amount of crunchiness to the taco. The hospitality here is wonderful - super kind staff and Santi the owner is so friendly! Also love the design and decor of the place. SoHo is so lucky to have this spot!!!!
this spot opened up just in time for summer when all i want is an easy, savory bite before and after a night out. i knew this was going to be on the dinner rotation after the first bite of the trompo. it was sooo good. i will be dreaming about it. other menu highlights: pork carnitas and aqua santa. also secret tip, if you order everything on the menu, they give you a cookie on the house. 😙
We were walking to Eileen’s and while we finished eating, we saw this place Trompo steak was delicious, salsas spicy, and the toppings are excellent. looking forward to visiting again for the future. I recommend getting the taco, crushing Chicharron, pickled onion and habanero salsa, with the green salsa they add on, super super yummy.
Santo Taco came highly recommended by a friend, specifically for the Santi’s Steak Trompo—and wow. My biggest mistake was only thinking two would be enough. I ended up going back for two more: another Steak Trompo and a Pork Carnitas, both suggested by the lovely Vanessa at the register. AMAZING. Everything was packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with care. Vanessa’s recommendations were spot-on, and the whole experience just felt welcoming and hype in the best way. Do yourself a favor: come hungry and get both. 🌮🔥
Officially my new favorite taqueria in NYC! The tacos are by far the best I've had in the city. My absolute favorites are the pork carnitas and steak trompo. I can also recommend the mushroom tacos, the zucchini flowers are a delicious touch that makes them truly special. With the tortillas themselves, you can taste the high-quality ingredients and craftsmanship. And definitely don't leave without trying the Mexican chocolate cookie for dessert! Beyond the amazing food, the design of the place is also very well done, and the outdoor space creates the perfect atmosphere for a nice summer day. But what truly elevates the experience is the team – they are warm, incredibly welcoming, and super attentive. You can immediately tell that this team used to run of the world's best restaurants. Can't recommend Santo Taco enough. I'll definitely be back soon!
The meat is flavorful and tender. The tortillas are fantastic. Really good food. Lines are long but we found seating. The chicken, steak and carne asada were all excellent. The meat is better than any other taco place I have enjoyed here in Manhattan. Prepare to wait in line. I did not see bathroom. VERY limited seating inside. YOU have to add the salsa and onion. Perfect fusion of flavors with the taco meat and tortilla.
I stumbled upon Santo Taco while walking to the westside from the courts (I had never seen or heard of the place) I saw the menu but asked the lady at the register what she would recommend and I ended up getting a Steak trompo, a Pork carnita and a Chicken taco plus an Agua Santa which is a different kind of agua fresca at least in the flavor/ingredients department. I absolutely loved everything. So much so that I bought a 4th taco and repeated the Pork Carnitas which became my favorite.
I ordered 2 Santo's Steak trompo tacos and 2 chicken tacos as well as the Agua Santa. The quality of the steak trompo was phenomenal. It's tastes so delicious and cooked to perfection. I'd have to say the same for the chicken tacos. It was some of the most juicy chicken I've had in a long time. I originally ordered only one but went back for another one! The Agua Santa was decent but nothing crazy. The food and service was fantastic!
Small, quaint but also vibey interior. Not crowded at all on a Friday afternoon. Staff were friendly and courteous. Carnitas taco and steak trompo were so good we got a second portion. Pickled onions and cicharrones on the side were a great touch by the sauce bar. Sauces were very good too. Great with the touch of lime on top.
Wow….pure deliciousness. So satisfying, so flavorful, so tender. I indulged in the steak, carne asada, chicken and zucchini tacos (not pictured)….and i’d do it again! The chips and guac were fab. Don’t pass this place up! Vanessa in the front is an angel. Overall, wonderful experience.
I visited Santa Taco for lunch and this was my second time there and once again, it was an absolutely amazing experience. I tried four tacos: pork, steak, mushrooms, and chicken. Each taco was dressed differently, which really made every bite unique and exciting. Every single one was incredibly flavorful and delicious. In my opinion, this place serves some of the best tacos in New York City. On top of that, the employees are extremely friendly and welcoming. I absolutely love this spot and will definitely be coming back again.
The tacos here were quite delicious. The trompo tacos, in particular, were amazing. The service and atmosphere were also pleasant, and it was not crowded during our visit. We also sampled the asada and zucchini tacos, which were enjoyable, but the trompo remained my personal favorite. This establishment certainly deserves greater recognition.
Being from California finding good tacos in New York City is pretty tough. I did come across a tacos list on TikTok, which is where I saw this place and it’s right next to my work so I knew I had to try it. It always looks delicious when you walk by always busy. I walked by after work and got two tacos. I got the mushroom and the chicken. These were my second choices, but I was trying not to eat steak or pork. I’ll say the mushroom was good. It was very simple for six dollars. I enjoyed the flavor, but it just felt plain the chicken however, was delicious. All in all, I still love both the tacos. I love the spot I inhaled them I ate them so fast. I will be going back to try the other tacos.
While slightly expensive, the steak taco is really good and the quality of the ingredients are great too. Just a small menu so the food comes out really fast. There’s quite a few tables available and the turnover is quite quick so it’s easy to get a table. Their drinks are also very refreshing and great for a summer day.
Our meal at Santo Taco was delicious. The flavor of the tortillas stood out, they’re truly exceptional. The mushroom taco was a standout, packed with rich, savory flavor. Don’t skip the Agua Santa it’s a must-try! And to top it all off, end your meal with the cookie. trust me, you won’t regret it.
I went by to try this new taco spot and I was very impressed with how amazing and delicious the tacos was. I tried the chicken and the steak and they were both incredible and delicious. The owner is very cool and down to earth. The environment is great. Awesome vibes and all round epic. The menu is small the qualities and flavours are so worth checking out.
Honestly don’t fully understand the hype. Their tacos were good but nothing to rave about and about $1-2 more per taco than they should be. Though they are pressing tortillas by hand which is awesome.
Im giving them a 4, look what I paid for each taco, they really skimp on the meat portion to a normal taco serving. Compared to what I’ve had at taquerias around the US and Mexico City. The quality and flavor is definitely there. 2 tacos normally fill me, but I felt like I needed more food after trying their trompo and their carnitas. I think the chicken taco definitely was a little hardier but I didn’t have that taco. The agua Santa was so good, and the service is good. Please note, there is no bathroom so bring hand sanitizer to clean your hands. Please know looking at the photo done be fooled. The trompo looks like it’s a lot of meat, but it’s sliced thiiiiin.
Great spot opening above La Esquina. Corn tortillas made to order with a simple menu of traditional Mexican street tacos. Service is efficient. Favorites include the carne asada and mushroom. Also get the agua fresca and combine it with the topo chico! After your meal head down to La esquina for a drink in their speakeasy.
I’ve been to Santo Taco a couple of times now, and every taco I’ve tried has been spot on. The one you have to get is their Mexico City–style steak trompo—thinly sliced, perfectly seasoned steak on a fresh tortilla. So good!! That said, it does feel a bit pricey for what it is, and I’d skip the guac—the portion is almost laughably small. Still, it’s a decent spot for a quick, easy, and tasty lunch when you’re in Nolita.
I stopped in for a quick taco and enjoyed the fresh ingredients. Definitely one of the better spots in the city but portions are smaller than standards like Los tacos no 1. I tried the carne asada and washed it down with agua santa (blend of pineapple, cucumber, lime and palo santo). I definitely want to come back and try the other offerings sometime.
Not worth the hype. The wait on a Saturday night 6pm was 45-60 minutes standing in line. Came to try the steak trompo and it was very disappointing (4/10) it was super super salty way too over seasoned. The carnitas and chicken were not bad 6/10. The carne asada was sold out. Wouldn’t recommend unfortunately! And Diet Coke was tiny.
I don’t get the hype. Overall the tacos taste good but the trompo costs $7 for a thin slice of steak and dash of guac…that pricing is outrageous for such a casual spot. Other reviews talk of the free chicharrones but given that I didn’t see any serving utensils near it, I’d proceed with caution. Good but wouldn’t return.
Trompo was quite salty, and I like my tacos well seasoned. Salsas did not balance it out with heat or acidity. Two stars for well made tortillas.
I walked into Santo Taco excited to finally try their tacos—only to walk right into one of the most unwelcoming experiences I’ve had in SoHo. Not knowing where to order (because there’s no clear signage), I politely asked a staff member. He pointed me toward the cashier, so naturally I walked up… only to find out I was supposed to order outside at a little window. Instead of simply clarifying with a “sorry, sir, I meant outside,” this staff member looked at me like I had just broken a sacred law of tacos. He furiously asked why I would walk in there, as if I’d committed some crime. The energy was straight-up headmaster scolding a student. What could have been a quick and kind correction turned into an unnecessarily embarrassing and hostile exchange. I left immediately without ordering—because honestly, if you make your paying customers feel unwelcome before they’ve even placed an order, the tacos can’t possibly be worth it. I get that NYC has its share of arrogant energy, but there’s a line between “edgy” and flat-out rude. Unfortunately, Santo Taco crossed it. Be nice and kind to people!
I’m Mexican and this place it’s ok. Sadly Enrique’s Olvera’s restaurants are completely overrated and the price / quality is not worth it at all and you can find better Mexican tacos anywhere else. El Chato and cariñitos are waaaaaay way better.
Not sure what all the hype is. Visited this place during the week and ordered the steak trompo taco and the chicken taco. The steak trompo was very greasy and lacking flavor. The chicken taco was cold and not appetizing. Both tacos were served on a corn tortilla that did not seem fresh. Stick to Los Tacos.
~ Overhyped Tacos for Young Trendy Crowd~ Decent and tasty tortillas. Mushroom tacos are the most delicious of all five offerings in the menu. Steak Trompos are dried and old. Chicken, Carne Asada and Pork Carnitas are bland, lack of freshness. Agua Fresca is just plain terrible. Uncomfortable communal tables on side street. It gets slammed with long line. Tacos for young, trendy SoHo/ Nolita crowd.
