Food was good, portion size was good, price was good, and service was good. No complaints from my family on our first visit here. There was only one server on while I was there but he held it down! And we never had a problem getting what we needed. Thanks you for the good meal!

So lucky they are open for a small community during these cold months! You gotta get yourself and your friends and family here. Great food, good times and a local joint. Can’t beat it!

We enjoyed not one but two breakfasts here during our week in the islands. Our service was excellent both days in spite of them, as all restaurants right now being short on staff. They serve a great cup of coffee instead of a weak cup that seems to be the trend for the region. Id highly reccomend you grab a meal there!

Great service and great food. I got the Ruben, best I have ever had. Not soggy and great portions of corned beef and kraut. Fires are something special too, my son even got a to go order for later lol. Also, really nice hand painted scenery on the walls of all things Saint Lawrence!

An absolutely amazing place! We were greeted within a couple of minutes of sitting down and our food came out in less than 10 minutes! The waitstaff are very friendly and efficient. Had the Philly omlete and it was incredible, and I loved the homefries. The price is great, and the atophere is very calming. Would highly recommend!

Great diner for breakfast. Food was a little slower to come out, but I think we got there just after quite a few other groups, and it was busy. Good sized portions and the food was really good and the toast in particular was really good with top quality bread. Staff were all very friendly too, and since we're in town for 2 nights, we'll probably come back tomorrow.

We have eaten at the North Star many times. It is a well established diner. The food is good, plenty of seating and clean. The staff is wonderful.

Great little spot to have breakfast-there usually aren’t many vegan options for breakfast but I was able to get home fries, peanut butter toast and oatmeal. My husband got some of the best pancakes he’s ever had. The waiter was very friendly!

Went here for lunch with my mother and grandmother, it was excellent! It wasn't that busy so we were able to sit where we wanted. The interior is beautiful, it has a hand painted mural of Alex Bay that wraps around all the walls. Our servers were so polite! They were very attentive, there was no real wait for anything but our food - which makes sense. The food was delicious! And the portions were good, not too big, but still more than we were expecting for a restaurant that isn't a chain. We all ended up with food to take home. They're only open for breakfast and lunch, so keep that in mind if you're going to stop there, which you should! Its a lovely, homey place.

We've had breakfast here twice now and it was very good both times. We always get great service and tasty coffee. It's how we start our day for the four hour trip home.

My daughter and I had the steak and eggs and it was probably the best breakfast steak either of us have ever had. And that's saying something!

I can see why this place is packed during peak hours. We try to get here before the crowd.Very early!! food is great and portions are so large people who have more slight appetites can divide 1 meal between them.We did it one day with the pancakes and one day with the omelette and toast. If you ate everything you'd gain 5 lbs a day!! They had someone paint beautiful soothing murals representing the St. Lawrence river life on all the wslls.I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! Very nice vibe.

We enjoyed Lunch over the weekend here at North Star. Added bacon to the Mushroom Swiss Burger and upgraded with onion rings. The burger had great texture and flavor. The Swiss cheese covered the mushrooms like a blanket, the romaine lettuce was crisp, tomato slices fresh and the bacon had crispy egg. The brioche bun was buttered, lightly grilled with the perfect edge of grill flavor that melted in the mouth when taking a big bite. To add more texture. We added onion rings to the sandwich rather than fresh onion and that took this burger to another level. We did note that the onion rings were over cooked but did not have a burnt flavor as expected based on the look of the onion rings. We did also try the new batch of lobster bisque and it was some of the best bisque flavor we have had in the thousand island region. The Lobster bisque is a must try while they have limited ingredients. We suggest ordering toast with the bisque to give a good side and a way to clean up your cup or bowl to get every last bite possible. Though we like the breakfast here, we are going to come back for lunch as we really enjoyed our time, the service and our food!

Absolutely amazing experience. We were a party of six at this family restaurant this morning (July 3rd )and it was such a great experience altogether. Marlee our server was friendly, always smiling and very patient with taking our order…( party of 6 you know how it can be 😉). The place was clean, food was fantastic and everything was JUST RIGHT👍👏👏👏. Keep it up Marlee as you did an amazing job in making us comfortable and ensuring we had a great start to the day.

Nice local restaurant. Covered, outdoor seating. The pancakes were huge and fluffy. Order one or two unless you're starving. Sausage were well cooked. The hash and eggs with wheat toast was delicious. Ask for the hash crispy and it will be perfect.

Food is great. I've eaten here thrice. Lunch once, and breakfast, twice. Every time on a Saturday and had to wait each time for a seat. First two times in September 2020 when only half the tables were used. Last time September 2021 and all tables were used. Obviously it's a popular restaurant so, even if I said the place stank to high heaven, you should go and enjoy a great breakfast or lunch. Okay, back to the topic at hand. I recommend this place for breakfast or lunch and for the service which has been very good. Enjoy.

Came here on a Saturday at 10:30, ordered breakfast (naturally). You seat yourself and despite it being the weekend, the diner wasn't as packed as one might expect. The floor plan helped to accentuate the spacing between booths and tables as to avoid that claustrophobic feel. My husband enjoyed the ham though and insisted that he could eat about five more if he could. My parents and brother also liked the coffee, noting that it wasn't weak in flavor like other diners serve. Lastly, I liked how they gave you an actual container of syrup rather than a little, cheap cup. The only thing I wish is that they made their French toast a little flatter, I didn't like how fluffy they were. Aside from that, I wouldn't mind taking a trip back up here to enjoy their breakfast again.

Nice spot, good food and friendly service. Often busy but the reason is obvious. Parking can be a challenge during the peak meal hours but it's well worth your time to stop in. I've been making it a regular stop for several months and the food has been consistently good.

Was not too busy but steady. Apparently the dishwasher called out sick because we heard about it. We sat at the counter and the server was pretty friendly. Good was good, but one of my eggs were broke. I wouldn't have served that at home...and I've been to other places that give you another egg... Overall a decent place with decent food.

Been here before during cv19 restrictions and they did great. Today's breakfast was also great, they accommodated my no potatoes or bread request wonderfully and put my scrambled eggs in a bowl. No offer to refill a coffee or a diet coke with repeated glances to Nora, but otherwise, Price was okay. Service was quick.

My husband and I went here for breakfast during our stay in Alexandria Bay. We didn't intend on coming here, but it was walking distance from our hotel and another restaurant at a hotel was closed to the public due to hosting a conference. The service was quick, but our server never came back to check on us after dropping the food and my husband never received more coffee. The restaurant is very nice on the inside and seems to have a covered patio, but it was not in use when we were there. I had the "Just Right" and my husband had the "Big Bay Breakfast", which were both a lot of food for a small price. Definitely a great value. The only thing that we didn't like was the pancakes - they were doughy and not browned at all. Everything else was delicious!

We are staying here at the Cap'n Inn and Suites and went to North Star for breakfast. It was super convenient and homey. The waitress was top notch. The food was great except for those blueberry pancakes. Omgosh, so disgusting. Not browned at all, large tough blueberries and so doughy. They smelled like raw flour and tasted ever worse. They need to get someone else in there that can cook decent pancakes. So disappointing

A group of Christian men meet on occasion at the North Star Family Restaurant for breakfast. It's a nice place, with decent food. The wait-help does their best to contend with the large-size group and all of the different orders, and the kitchen-staff do a good job. I've never had a bad breakfast meal at the North Star. Overall, I'd give them 4.5 stars out of 5.

We were in Alex Bay for an anniversary trip and my wife really wanted a classic "big breakfast". The clerk at the hotel said they were the best option around so we went in for a meal. While dated (I think much of Alex Bay is that way), it was clean and the service was great. My wife ended up having the waffles with strawberries which she loved. I had their biscuit and sausage gravy with eggs and it was more than I could eat. The biscuit was about 5" round and about 1.5" tall doused with a very tasty gravy. I would say that it's a good option for breakfast and seems to cater to the "local" crowd. Seemed like everyone knew everyone else.

I ate two different days for breakfast. I had a veggie omelet with Rye toast the first day. The omelet was tasteless and greasy. The second time was biscuits and sausage gravy. The sausage gravy was very tasty, but the biscuits were overcooked and overworked.

We stopped in for an early breakfast after an overnight stay in the Bay. Our hotel restaurant was closed, so we set out on a blind search. North Star was the first place we came upon that was open. We were lucky to find it. We were immediately impressed by the beautiful river murals that adorned the walls. We slid into a booth and were quickly served fresh, hot coffee. I ordered the Western omelet with rye toast. The omelet was chock full of diced ham, red and green peppers, onions and cheese. Every bite was savory. The toast was yummy as well. My friend ordered the broccoli scramble, which is scrambled eggs with broccoli and homemade cheese sauce, served over home fries. This came with toast, and he chose cinnamon raisin. Portions were generous, prices were fair and service was friendly. I definitely recommend this restaurant!

Stop here for dinner at 7 p.m. on a Saturday evening yesterday 92119. Reasonable selection, and they were offering prime rib. A reasonable price so we decided to try it, I chose the queen cut and my wife chose a delmonico. We both asked for medium rare.. mine came out perfect and the wife's was raw. After 10 minutes we flagged the waitress and send it back to get cooked to a medium rare at least. My Prime was cooked nice but a touch stringy. When my wife Delmonico return it was cook nicely but very stringy. The waitress was very nice and apologetic. She was also overworked overtired and way past her energy potential. Overall a mixed bag, I would roll the dice and try it again, and my wife said she would not roll the dice and try it again.

Wanted a nice family meal for our vacation from out of town, but we got stale chips with the dip, just cooked fries, home made chips that were under cooked and chewy. They waiter seemed like he was lost in the order and forgot multiple things that we had to re ask him for. The family that we went with said service and food was better the last time they went. I'm disappointed.

It's OK. Not the cleanest. No toilet paper in bathroom, waitress spilled drink under booth and never mopped it up, table was covered in sticky goo and never wiped after last customer. Half of order never came to table till 20 minutes after breakfast sandwich was served. It's a last resort when visiting the area.

I would have given it 4 stars but the first four things on the menu I order they did not have. They didn't have the spinach dip and chips, the celery with blue cheese, the perch or walley. Settled for the hot roast beef sandwich but it was very salty. Waitress was friendly and very apologetic for not having what I wanted to order.

The server was very nice. Portion sizes were good. However the pancakes were pretty horrible, they didn't taste good and everyone that had them ended up with an upset stomach. Bacon was also way overdone.

A nice restaurant with very nice decor, huge dining room. Service was weird. Brings coffee, no silverware. Wait some more like 35 minutes. Brings food which most of it tasted great. Chocolate Chip pancakes, ham omelet, hash browns, toast, and a cold bagel. Bacon perfectly cooked. Hash was salty. Coffee refills were none existent. Waitress disappeared after dropping off food.. Brought the bill and never asked if we needed anything else. Definitely will try again. Maybe a better waitress this time.

The food was good, the service wasn't. I'm guessing the waiter was new, my girlfriend's sandwich sat under the heat lamps for 10-15 minutes while they made my eggs. Long enough she had to peel the bread off the plate. She asked for mayo on the side, which there was, but the sandwich (which was supposed to have any) was caked in it.

First time here. Food was pretty good. But had to eat with hands, needed a knife and never got one, which was messy for the meal I got. Took about 30 minutes after we finished eating to get our check. Overall, food was good, but service wasn't great.

My family and I tried coming here on a Saturday morning for breakfast and they were very busy we decided to come back for dinner instead figuring they were a decent place. We were sadly mistaken. We should have read the reviews prior. Not only did we have to wait an hour with only 4 other tables. When we finally got our food my husband's plate had a pile of grease on his plate and my fried shrimp was still raw. The waitress did right and had told them to make another order but I declined. By this time it was around 8:30pm both waitresses were on and off their phones and there was music blasting from the kitchen. Very unprofessional.

Service was good but my home fries were so sad they made my eggs cry. Nothing like the crunchy seasoned ones in other people's pictures. The toast was tiny tough and not buttered. :( OJ was good as well

They don't know how to handle busy apparently. We (a family of 5) arrived to just over 3/4 full house. We were greeted immediately but when I said we were 5 I got a face of, "I'm not sure where I'm going to put you." When I said we could put my little one in a high chair we were then seated at a booth. The booths are really tight by the way, not the best choice of seating for those who are bigger. Service was friendly enough when they were there, but getting attention to GET that service was something else altogether. Food took about 45 minutes or more (eggs/toast/pancakes) to come out, and NO ONE so much as stopped at our table to check on drinks or apologize for the wait. 2 larger parties were in there and all attention was devoted to them at the cost of the other tables. No wait staff covered each other to keep a fluidly running ship either, each one focused only on their tables, walking right by others without even acknowledging others. The food was good, reasonably priced, ok portions. Kids under 10 can eat free from a limited menu. But the shotty service completely overshadowed my visit.

The cinnamon rolls were old and stale, they didn't grill them but microwaved them. The hash browns were canned and soggy. No soap or papertowels on the bathroom. The only nice thing is the murals on the walls

I'm giving them two stars because the staff was very friendly and attentive. But the breakfast food I have to say was really subpar. Pretty much any Denny's I've been to has given me far better meals. The pancakes were tough and mostly tasteless and the scrambled eggs were bland at best. The one redeeming part of the meal was the sausage. That was pretty good. I really hope they can up their game on the breakfast. I want to be able to support a local business. I can't say how they are for lunch and dinner.

The food is undeniably less expensive than many nearby restaurants, but it's simply passable and nothing extraordinary. The diced potatoes ("home fries") were cooked thoroughly, yet they were relatively unseasoned, somewhat oily, and appeared to be mixed in with a prior batch. The eggs were cooked properly, as one would expect. However, the sausage was bland and unappealing, lacking any crisp browning or flavor; it could easily have been microwaved. The pancakes were unremarkable, and with only margarine packets and maple-flavored corn syrup as toppings, they were exceptionally uninspiring and couldn't be salvaged. Surprisingly, the chocolate milk came complete with whipped topping and chocolate syrup, showing more effort than the rest of the meal. At least the mural inside that covers all the walls is pretty nice, though. Unfortunately, you may be more inclined to go here for that, than the food. Overall, I wouldn't generally recommend it, but if you're passing through and want to avoid exorbitant prices, it will suffice. It's likely a suitable spot for families with kids who prefer not to pay three times as much across town.

Dirty entrance...hair in food...2 of them...food was served just warm because there was only one server...don't order the scramble broccoli with cheese sauce...It's nasty! The sauce was powdery.

It took between 45 - 60 min for food to come. They were busy, but people after us were served before us. Food was mediocre, pancakes were barely browned and smelled doughy, but were edible. Given we'd waited so long and had activities planned, we made due.

We waited at least a half hour before our order was taken and another half hour for our food. I ordered well done home fries with onions and when the server came out she said that they, I'm assuming the cook, said to just take them out and see what they say!! After waiting that long, they couldn't even make them properly. I will never go there again!!

Arrived, nice clean place, ordered our food, eggs & pancakes. 45 minutes later, no food, empty coffee cups, asked the waitress where our breakfast was... she seemed very confused. Apparently never put our order in, paid 3.50 plus for our ONE cup of coffee and left. Should have at least got the coffee for free just for wasting our time.

Stopped in to have breakfast one Monday morning. Waited 10 minutes for a waitress to stop prepping silverware and chatting with the locals. Then waited another 40 minutes for 2 simple breakfast meals and there was only 6 customers in the building other than us. During the wait, a local customer came in, sat down, and had his food in 5 minutes while we still waited lol. It was like pulling teeth to get a waitress over and get a coffee refill. Halfway thru service, our original waitress just up and disappeared. Food was sub par. Home fries was like 15 potato nuggets cooked without any seasoning. I could get a better meal at waffle house, Dennys or ihop...and those places suck too! Then the bill came and the food was way overpriced for what it was. Never, ever going there again. Plenty of restaurants in the area to choose from and I'd highly recommend staying away from this establishment.

Our server was very rude. This place just downright sucks. Western omelette, more like onion with two small chunks of ham, was supposed to come homfries, it did not. When we questioned the server she lied and said it did not come with potatoes. It clearly says on the menu that it does.

I don't usually do reviews but this was one of the worst dining experiences we have had. We waited almost 10 minutes before anyone took our drink order. Then another 15 minutes before they brought it and finally took our meal order. The bacon was under cooked, toast very burnt, they forgot my husband's side order of sausage and never once stopped back to check if everything was ok. And the folks next to us waited even longer for their food. We were there an hour and 40 minutes just for a simple breakfast.

Found this place by accident on 5/27 and easily found parking and a booth. Both of our breakfasts were well made and tasted great. But..... The problem is the timeliness of the meal!! The waiting and waiting and waiting!! Sure you get your drinks/coffee order in quickly (along w multiple refills.) But 40ish mins to get the meal. All while watching (what I would assume are regulars) get prompt service and meals quickly. This is 5+ years of continual lackluster service. If you're on a schedule. Find something else!!

We stopped for lunch around 11:30. We ordered drinks a coffee and 2 lemonades. No spoon was given for coffee. The forks were covered in spots from dish washer. One ordered a hot beef sandwich with gravy. Had to ask for a knife. Waitress came over asked if wanted refill on coffee. She said they were brewing a fresh pot and would bring it when it got done. Meantime the customer behind us he had to take his cup up to the counter to get a refill. Very disappointed in the service.

Yes they gave us 30% off but I tried to explain that isn't what I wanted. Im not very healthy so for me to eat. And then the waitress was so argumentative. No remorse. A turkey club and 1 eggs over easy. 45 minutes. Again we have ate at ur place for yrs!!!!! Even 1 table asked 3xs for their sandwich to go and until they cashed out is when that party of 4 finally got their togo sandwich. Sorry ur cooks and waitresses need to delicate the service better.

Food is standard diner food. Nothing special. Western sandwich was not good. Bread was soggy with grease from sitting for so long. I realize there is a bike show in town but we waited over an hour for our food. All three of us got stuff we didn't order or didn't get what we ordered. Had to constant remind server we needed refills. Go somewhere else. Not worth it.

DO NOT EAT HERE. We waited 50 minutes for 2 orders of eggs, toast, and bacon. Asked for over medium eggs, they came out raw and undercooked. I’m pretty sure over medium eggs are not supposed to be CLEAR and JIGGLY. 0 butter on the toast, and the couple sitting behind us had been seated and for 30 mins waited to have their order taken. RIDICULOUS. I’ve been to 3 places for food for my birthday weekend and Alex Bay has no idea how to serve/run a restaurant. Not worth the hype if we can’t even get good food around here.

We chose to have a late breakfast/ early lunch and were met with the absolute rudest waiter ever. He told his coworker who was a great waitress that she needed to slow down and not let "them" meaning customers to control her that the customers needed to be controlled by them . He was very rude and ungrateful. It was busy which apparently he didn't like but he never should have taken it out on his customers. I thought the food was good but will never step foot inside this place again!

Walked in expecting a wonderful breakfast, sign said “please seat your self”. We sat at a corner booth which was dirty…. Ok no problem…. Saw waitresses walk by take drink orders, deliver drinks help other customers etc. After waiting just over 10 minutes without any sort of acknowledgment of our presence we decided maybe it was better we just leave at this point. I walked over to the counter seating area where a waitress was just bringing a check over to a couple, which she then walked towards the window to the kitchen…. I waited to see if anyone would come over so I could explain the situation just so the staff was aware but after another minute or two of waiting without any acknowledgement I left and figured this route may be a better way to let the staff and management know. We had high hopes for a good breakfast but left without an acknowledgement of our presence. If there was an option of zero stars it is deserved but I guess 1 star it is.

*****STAY AWAY**** If I could give minus zero stars I would. Absolutely positively the worst food I have ever had and believe me I have had plenty. First of all, this is 2025 and LOTS of people have food allergies so get with the times….or maybe you don’t understand. When I asked for a milk alternative, I was offered 2% milk…..seriously????? I ordered oatmeal and home fries. The oatmeal…. I wasn’t quite sure what she wanted me to do with it - use it as spackle or hang wallpaper with it. Completely inedible….it must have been sitting in the pan since Friday and it was just like cement. And the home fries…..loaded with grease and totally disgusting. They were sitting in a puddle of grease. The experience in your establishment landed me in the bathroom for most of the afternoon. Oh, and don’t let me forget the filthy bathroom! I felt like I needed a shower after using it. The health inspector needs to pay you a visit. I may make that call. Thank you for the experience and never again! Like I said…STAY AWAY!!!!!!
