Summary: Great food, flexible seating options, and an inviting atmosphere make this spot a standout. Whether you want a lively environment or a quieter space, it offers the best of both worlds—paired with delicious burgers. Detailed Review: I recently visited this location and ordered the Texas Burger, and it was absolutely delicious. The burger was flavorful, well-prepared, and satisfying from the first bite to the last. The quality of the ingredients and the overall presentation made it clear that care goes into each plate. One of the things I appreciated most about this place is the layout. They offer two separate dining spaces—one downstairs and one upstairs—which gives guests flexibility depending on the experience they’re looking for. If you want to be part of the lively crowd, the downstairs area provides that energetic atmosphere. If you prefer something more relaxed and quieter, the upstairs seating offers a comfortable alternative. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their meals, which speaks to the consistency and overall quality of the kitchen. Combined with the welcoming environment, this place is definitely worth visiting. I would gladly return and recommend it to others looking for a great burger and a versatile dining experience.
Even though we went here kind of late There were very few diners, the service was still excellent! My husband got the fish and chips dinner and the fish came out looking like it really just come out of the river right next to us! My daughter and I also decided to try the chicken riggies. The flavor was great, but for us it was just a bit too spicy! My husband decided to try it too and it was even too spicy for him! However I still do recommend it for anybody who likes a lot of spice and flavor for their meal! You won't be disappointed! When you do go it is in a 'warehouse looking' district, so from the outside, at least at night, we weren't sure we were in the right place. Inside was really cool looking though! I do like the fact that they had a bar area that was separate from the dining area. So people who wanted to watch the TVs and being that kind of a setting could be in that area. There was a separate dining area for families/ people who wanted to eat and talk and you really couldn't hear the TVs as much. It also seemed they had an upstairs area for maybe parties? The other thing I liked was all one floor and they did have a ramp type area that I could easily manage with my cane. The restrooms were also on the main floor.
Flights, that’s a total of eight four ounce pours. They were all very good. I especially liked the black IPA, a dry Irish stout was very much like Guinness and also served on nitro. They have food, cocktails, and other beers besides their own. Something for everyone. Great location right on the black river downtown.
Probably more of a 4.5 stars rating. Some food items were crazy value while others not so much. Food overall was very good (duck nachos, blue burger and perch chowder 👍🏻) Service was stretched, but respectable. Indoor atmosphere was average while outside looked amazing (in summer).
Had a great lunch at 1812 on the River. I ordered the pizza and it was absolutely delicious—hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The outdoor seating was a perfect choice with great weather and a peaceful view of the river. Service was a bit slow, but it was during the lunch rush, so totally understandable. I’d definitely go back!
Our experience was great and this was our first time here! My mom and I went for lunch. My favorite was the perch and corn chowder. I could have eaten that all day. My mom had the pulled pork sandwich and said that it was very good, it was filling and not dry. The fish tacos and fries were delicious. The fries were cooked to perfection. The service was great. The lady who served us was so sweet! Overall we had an awesome time there. 😇
My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner at Maggie’s and we loved every minute of it! Michele and her team were so friendly and helpful and the food was amazing! The bar tender was so sweet and even showed up with decorations to add to the space for us! If your thinking about booking them for your event i recommend!
Visited Maggie's on the River while in Watertown for work. I decided to give this place a try due to some of the pictures that had been posted showing the scenery. I was a little disappointed because the outdoor seating was closed because it had rained recently. however the food did not disappoint. I had their fish tacos and their bacon cheese fries. I would highly recommend giving this place a try if you are in the area.
The food is great. The duck confit nachos were a surprise, and tasty even though the smaller portion (because: duck). I ordered a burger with a gluten free bun. outcome of one of the regular brioche bun with breaded onion, and breaded fries. I wanted a little burger why give me one of all these? I didn’t open it up immediately because I ordered it for dinner and I got it during lunch. what a surprise!
First time to this establishment. It's located right along the Black River with outdoor, riverside seating available. The table was a bit sticky. The server was attentive, but not hovering. Food was good. Had the brisket sandwich and a half salad (the half salad was the size of most normal salads). The brisket had a nice fat content and was not chewy at all.
The 1812 on the River is located in a multi-story building overlooking the Black River. The temperature was in the 30s. However, if the weather had been better, you could have enjoyed the deck overlooking the Black River. They have wings, pizza, fish tacos, shrimp and grits, and burgers. They had a Wednesday special for $0.75 wings. You could get flavors in orders of five. The apple cider jersey wings were really good with sweet heat and the apple cider flavor. The Buffalo wings had good heat. The fries were fresh and crispy. The fish tacos were also a favorite at the table. The service was great, and the food came out quickly for a large group. It's definitely worth a visit to Water Town.
Stopped in after our white water rafting trip to see the next group come down the river. Food was fantastic (gotta do bang bang shrimp and the Texas or Fish Tacos) and prices were very reasonable. Server struggled a little, but was doing good 👍. We sat outside on the back patio by the river. Very nice space, could use a little spruce up. Recommend going to see the rafters come down at 230p 🛶
The service was excellent and the atmosphere is great. I had the chicken fingers with honey mustard dipping sauce. Unfortunately the chicken tasted and looked terrible. It tasted like the grease used to feumy it was very old. The honey mustard was thick mayo mixed with whole grain mustard, not very good.
We sat at the high top bar table which was super cool and the bar staff served us. Great service but the appetizers took forever to arrive. Wings were good but not happy about them being fried as the description says grilled. Duck nachos were ok not super flavorful and small serving size. Had the haddock and fries, haddock is fried as a big piece I’d prefer several pieces. Fries were warm but server was awesome and asked if I wanted a new batch that were hot which was nice. Also ordered the bbq platter which was good but not sure burnt ends were in there. Overall it was a fun time, great atmosphere, great beers.
Trivia night when we arrived. Too loud a system for the space. Hostess was not at stand and had to wait several minutes to be greeted. When questioned about menu items the answer/description of food items was not helpful. Finally decided on Bbq shrimp appetizer. It was horrible. The sauce tasted burnt and was super spicy. The neither the menu or waitress mentioned it was spicy. I had to wipe the shrimp on my napkin to make it edible. My husband’s pulled pork sandwich was ok but nothing special. The fries they served him were ridiculous salty. And to add insult to injury, the waitress took away my husband’s plate before he finished the last of his fries. Will not be returning or recommending this establishment.
Not the type to leave these, but for the price of the place I expect at least satisfactory food. Went with a friend and ordered the brisket- completely unseasoned and tasted like nothing more closely than the smell of a porta-john. Appetizers took forever and came at same time as the entrees. Fish and chips was slightly better but was largely hollow- had more batter than fish. This was the second chance after a similarly disappointing experience. New ownership did not do the trick for this place.
Normally I don't do this but tonight was rough. I've had not the best food from here since 812 took over but decided to give it a second shot. Got a large pepperoni pizza, a smash burger, and an order of cheese curds. I spent 13 for the handful of cheese curds to bite into them and maybe 2 of the batch actually had cheese in them as they were very obviously cooked too long and the cheese melted out or dried out. The pizza unfortunately was really soggy and doughy in the middle even though we picked it up right when it was ready as my fiance waited inside . I do really like the flavors of their food, they just really need to fine tune the cook time and quality. The girl on the phone was sweet and patient with the call in for our to go order. I spent 58 dollars and we were really disappointed with the food itself.
This restaurant's location is great! Having lunch/dinner overlooking the river is nice. However, When we walked in, nobody was there to greet us, as there is supposed to be a waitress or hostess to greet and seat guests. I walked over to the bar area twice to look for someone to seat us, the 2nd time I walked over, the young lady attending bar (who saw me the 1st time I walked over) finally acknowledged me and told me someone would be over shortly. Once seated, we were handed menus (soiled menu's, 2nd red flag). The pretzel appetizer and the spinach artichoke dip appetizer was good. The Philly Cheese Steak wasn't seasoned and it was dry. The Buffalo Chicken (Hot and Jack Danielle's BBQ) was lacking flavor/seasoning. The Hot isn't a traditional hot, it's kind of translucent with particles of red pepper flakes on it and hardly any sauce. The Jack Danielle's BBQ was bland with also a light coating of sauce (had to ask for more sauce. Requested sauce took so long, chicken got cold and I sent it back to be fixed to my liking. Nachos were sloppy and flavorless. After a few bites my daughter said she was not going to be finishing them, as they were nasty. The waitress said they couldn't do anything about it just because she thought they were nasty, so we just told her to trash them. My son's both got burgers and they said they were okay but lacked seasoning/flavor. All and all, we are new to the area, a military family that just relocated here from North Carolina. In my opinion as well as my family's opinion, Maggie's On The River is over priced and over rated. We ended up spending approximately $140.00 for dinner just to order pizza to our hotel room an hour later. We will never be returning! **As we were leaving, the waitress said there was a mix-up in the kitchen and gave me chicken to go. I thanked her and we left.**
The location of the restaurant is quite decent. Situated on the bank of a river, with a nice view of white water crashing. We went in the spring when it was cold and rainy so we didn’t get to sit on the patio, but I can imagine it would be a lovely experience. We visited this place on a Friday evening for dinner with a family of 3. The place was fairly busy, as the typical sports bar on a weekend evening. The servers were pleasant and quick to find us a seat and take the orders. But once orders were placed, the experience really began to diminish - It took almost an hour to get the food! The servers apparently know this is an issue, because they would check in frequently to take the order but once you’ve ordered they avoided the table, i.e. they wouldn’t pop in to give you an update on your meal as they would at other restaurants. The meals came, my pasta was already quite cold as if it had been sitting for a while. The chicken pasta wasn’t great. Tasted as though the seasoning was sprinkled on top of the meal once it was dished out. The rest of the meal, wings and Mac and cheese were ok though. I wouldn’t recommend if the place appears to be even a little busy. But I would probably go for wings and fries only, maybe at lunch time on a Tuesday.
